The mobile version is better than Skype's mobile version. There's no need for hosts to host calls, you simply join a channel and talk. There's a friends list feature with one-on-one calling. You can make your own server for your own little gang.
Remember that one person in a group call that was super loud to the point where you had to lower your Skype volume or ask them to pipe down? Discord has the mute and volume systems, where you can either mute or lower/raise the volume of others to suit yourself.
The UI is great and there's no ads.
Skype is a bandwidth and memory hog. People can easily grab at your IP. And honestly, how much longer are you going to stare at the light blue and white? It's getting old and boring.
Now how is it effective to our "gaming" community?
The permissions of a server can help the general community in so many situations. You can set players to specific roles and colors to match those roles. PMing is a thing, of course. You can also lock specific text channels to let only a specific guild in. For example, only Grimoire Heart sees the Grimoire Heart text channel, so they can plan their evil jobs there.
- Spoiler:
In the meantime, I have nothing better to do, so I decided to make an unofficial FTRP Discord. It'd be preferred if you join with your forum name. If you're already using Discord for something else and you have an account under another name, PM me your forum name and I'll change the nickname to it.
