Arinna Wattson

Personal

Name: Arinna "Ari" Wattson

Age: 17

Gender: Female

Class: Warlock

Rank: D-rank

Guild: Fairy Tail

Tattoo: Center of Back [Black]

Face: Tsubomi Kido | Kagerou Project

Appearance

Height: 5'7" | 170 cm

Weight: 130 lbs | 59 kg

Hair: Green (Past Waist)

Eyes: Red (though they appear a dark grey when she is tired)

Overall: Perhaps the two most noticeable features of the young woman are her height and her long, green locks. Ari stands at a rather tall height (for a woman) of five feet and seven inches: leaving her towering over her more petite female counterparts. Lanky, any hint of feminine curves are hidden in baggy over-sized clothes-- Often the only suggestion of her feminine nature is her long green locks, that hang on either side of her face. The rest of her hair is kept swept back in a ponytail, usually hidden by the hood of her sweatshirt.

Practical in nature, Ari is rarely seen in tight fitting clothing, preferring instead to put comfort first. Rarely does she wear skirts or dresses (certainly not without fighting tooth and nail over it) and she is almost never far from a trusty zipped hoodie. She doesn't particularly care to stand out in the crowd, and thus avoids flashiness whenever possible. Due to this, it isn't infrequent in which she is mistaken for a man, particularly from far distances.

Ari would describe herself as plain. While her features have the ability to be interpreted as pretty: a nose with a gentle slope upwards, long eyelashes, and a gentle purse to her lips (naturally turned downwards to a pout); she does little to highlight such features, rather she hides them beneath the shadow of her hood.

An insomniac, the young woman usually has dark circles beneath her eyes, indicating the lack of sleep. This lack of sleep also causes the young woman to often zone out. This can be seen as  a look of agitation or boredom to other people, causing her to come off as cold and uncaring.

Extra: Generally Ari's hands will be shaky. This is due to the high levels of caffeine in which she intakes to function. It's so normal for Ari that she doesn't even notice the shakiness.

Personality

Personality:  Simple. A being without extravagant tastes, or inherent desires to be the center of attention or famous. Rarely riddled with ulterior motives, Ari instead focuses on tasks, events, and people that make her happy.

Due to her (almost constant) exhaustion from being a chronic insomniac, most people view her as bored or uncaring, upon first glance: with a dull sleepy gaze that rarely falters, even within the most riveting of conversations. This stigma is often quickly overturned when she responds-- usually in a thoughtful and well spoken manner. Despite her physical appearance looking flat, she usually gives one hundred percent attention to whomever she is holding a conversation with.

Ari's reactions deal in the realm of subtlety, and often take others knowing her well to fully understand them. Rarely does the girl smile, whole-heartedly (unless she has gotten a full night's rest-- which almost never happens) instead, half smirks, and gentle upturns of her lips show approval and satisfaction, along with soft chuckles of amusement. She attributes this to the fact that she rarely has the energy to put more into her physical reactions.

Indeed, even negative emotions play out in subtleties: no more than a gentle furrow of the brow when she is distraught, upset, or fearful. This is often interpreted as cool confidence, and can be intimidating to others she doesn't know, particularly when she appears so hard to please.

While this is indicative of her external personality, Ari's internal personality is rather vivacious and fun. She is easily amused, and enjoys the company of others. She likes to "mess with" people, in the sense of reacting in different ways in order to see their reactions-- which look even more characterized when compared to her stoic expression(which amuses her even more).

In general, she is rather personable and holds conversations well. Due to her own subdued reactions, she tends to pick up on the smallest of details when interacting with others. The grimace after a bite of food that is not preferred, to the turn of a body toward another when a conversation is being held.

She remembers personal details about others, and is very deliberate in doing whatever is possible to show that she cares about people by remembering such details (this could be as simple as ordering a drink that she knows a person likes, or getting them a present on their birthday-- to more complicated concepts of organizing scavenger hunts, parties, surprise vacations, and visits from family members, to even setting others up romantically). Thoughtful, she tends to put other people first, and often enlists others to help her pull off her more extreme feats. Not very proud, she will always give credit to others for their help and commitment.

In the same regard, Ari puts the same amount of attention to detail, when she doesn't like a person. Putting to memory the things that they don't like, and rather bitterly, casually putting those people into situations. While for the most part it is done in in good humor, such levels of insight can be beneficial in more serious situations as well, such as confrontations. She isn't afraid to put the gathered intelligence to good use, if it means that her and her allies will be aided.

Generally a tomboy, Ari has never been one to gravitate towards the more feminine side of living. She doesn't enjoy getting her nails done, or dressing up, or bows or the color pink (she could go on all day)... She has always been more on the "rough" and "tough" side. She enjoys the more physical side of life, and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. No stranger to hard work, she would often get into scraps and fights growing up-- defending herself and others. She has always found that she makes friends with boys easier than girls: enjoying the crass bluntness that boys usually exhibit.

It's not to say, that Ari isn't without some natural feminine charm (regardless if she believes it or not). Without thinking, Ari can actually be quite flirtatious both in her physical movements (proximity, physical contact, etc.) and her spoken patterns. She can be suggestive in language (something that developed when she first started verbally responding to others to get a rise from them) and tone. Most of these actions are either intentional to get a rise out of someone who she doesn't currently see as a romantic interest, or subconscious in the sense that she doesn't realize she is doing them.

When flirting is intentionally directed towards someone she likes, or realized, on the other hand, it is rather quite awkward: rigid, robotic and often resulting in her hurting herself or others. She becomes clumsy, inarticulate and shy. This stems from some inadequacy she feels about femininity in general, as she doesn't feel that she has the ability to make others like her romantically-- a realization that is becoming even more prominent as she enters adulthood.

Despite being a social butterfly when it comes to (most) interactions, in general, Ari is somewhat of a (self-imposed) loner. Not to say that she doesn't love companionship-- but she doesn't know how to ask others to come along, or hang out with her-- if it doesn't involve helping a mutual party. She doesn't have the self confidence to value her time as much as everyone else's in this sense. She is much more likely to accept an invitation to party up with others, than initiate it.

She hates feeling burdened upon others, and often gives her companions as many outs as possible to get rid of her. This partially stems into a "work before play" mentality, so she tries to accomplish the goal at hand as soon as possible so that her companions don't get sick of her (she finds herself rather boring and is afraid that others will too, if interacting with her for too long).

Likes:

  • A Good Night's Sleep:Too bad it never comes to her. Ari is a chronic insomniac, and while she loves sleep, she very rarely gets enough of it. Even when she seems to be able to pass out for a few hours, her mind is tormented by frequent night terrors. It's a very rare day that she wakes up feeling refreshed, and so on these rare occasions she's instantly put into a good mood!
  • Caffeine:While this is more of a like of habit and need, Ari has become a connoisseur of all things caffeine related. Coffee, Tea, Energy Drinks... you name it, she's tried it, and will chug it. She's probably not one that you want to interact with when she hasn't had a caffeine fix in a while: she can get cranky and irritable, but she's aware of this, and always has something that will give her a quick burst of energy on her person.
  • Romance Novels: She will likely never mention this enjoyment to another breathing soul: human or not. Ari is a closet romantic, and admitting that she likes a good loves story, does little for her tough girl, tomboy rep. She will go to no ends to keep it a secret, but the only thing that has been proven so far to clear her mind from a night terror is, in fact a good, cheesy, romantic novel.

Dislikes:

  • Naturally Perky Morning People:It's not that she hates morning people, but she certainly envies them. Being well rested and naturally full of energy is one thing that Ari desires almost more than anything (she would chop of her own hand if it meant that she would never have issue sleeping again) and the vivacious perkiness of a natural morning person almost feels like a slap in the face-- a very, very tired face.
  • Being Cold: A brisk, chilly morning breeze, snow, the winter season in general: Ari quite dislikes being cold. She would much rather be cocooned in a warm blanket, or curled up next to a fireplace with a warm book. While this dislike doesn't prevent her from venturing out to the cool brisk winter days, it will cause her to curse the day as she is forced to partake in its weather. It is said that her distaste for being cold is how she first became acquainted to her trusty hoodie.
  • Garden Gnomes: Ari's older brother used to secretly move the gnomes in her family's garden and trick Ari into believing that they came alive during the night. While she has since outgrown the speculation that they are little creatures that can move on their own-- she still finds gnomes creepy.

Motivations:

  • Love:  A cliche? Yes. Very much indeed. Ari understands that her motivation to find and receive love is stereotypical and she hates herself for it... but this realization doesn't make it any less motivating for her. In fact, perhaps trying to stifle it causes it to become more pronounced.
This being said, it isn't necessarily a romantic love that Ari is seeking (though that may be the only capacity that she in her teenaged youth can fathom currently). Instead it is the concept of being accepted in totality by someone (or even herself). The idea that someone out there would take her, without wanting her to change is liberating and helps her get through the monotony of every day life.
  • Finding a Cure for her Insomnia and Night Terrors:Ari is willing to go to any lengths to find a cure for her sleepless nights. She feels as though she could become a far better person if only she was well rested and energetic, like so many people around her. She is teased every now and then with a night or two of good sleep, and she has seen the possibilities. Whatever new-confangled contraption or potion or action she has to try: it's always worth a shot.

Fears:

  • Complete Darkness: This fear has stemmed from when Ari was a child. She has always had a hard time coping with complete darkness-- requiring a nightlight or something to help soothe the anxiety that came with the suffocating blackness that took over her. Even now as she enters adulthood, Ari struggles with the pitch black. She has to have some light, otherwise she will become frozen with fear. In an attempt to get light if there is none, she may cast her lightning spells sporadically-- which can injure those around her, even friendly party members, animals, or other innocent bystanders.
  • Watching Those She Loves Die: The majority of the night terrors that Ari has mostly concern watching those she loves die. She has replayed the scenarios in every different capacity time and time again, some even at her own hand. She is terrified that instead of being just nightmares, that instead they are premonitions of the fate of those around her. She will do whatever is in her power to prevent this, even if it means alienating herself from her loved ones, or putting herself in harms way instead.

Magic

Magic Name: Amethyst Jolt

Magic Element: Lightning

Magic Description:
Ari uses a lightning type magic, characterized by it's vibrant purple hue. She can cast most types of lightning, including both positively and negatively charged bolts which affects directional pull (vertical versus horizontal) and potency of the strike. Primarily the magic is used for offensive attacks and debuffs of opponents, but the user can also cast spells to buff herself in strength, as well as use supplementary spells. Lightning magic, being elemental in nature is strong against water magic, and weak against wind.

History

History: Arinna Wattson, or as she was preferred to be known to others, Ari, was born in small suburban town. She spent her childhood in her family's villa. While her parents were fairly affluent, they held no prestigious status or honor. Merely, they lived comfortably.

Being the second, and youngest child to the Wattson clan, she was preceded by an older brother, who she idolized. Even as a young child, when her mother dressed her up in ribbons and ruffles, Ari would chase after her older brother, copying him-- daring to be just like him: returning to her mother in shambles, and covered in mud.

Indeed, even after her brother moved away, to attend a private boarding school, the young girl was still considered a tomboy. She remained friends with the neighborhood boys: continued following in her older brother's footsteps.

It wasn't long after her brother moved away, that her night terrors began. They were occasional at first, easily soothed by a mother's coddle-- and a warm cup of milk. Though as time lapsed, they became more frequent, and far more intense. She was plagued with visions of her family being ripped away from her, of her parents and brother dying before her eyes.

Soon she became inconsolable. She was worse than a newborn, as her incessant screams kept her parents awake each night: as they shook her from the nightmares consistently. They searched for answers, magical cures, so that Ari may not be plagued night in and night out, though none of them provided any relief. Her parents had given up hope that Ari would be subdued enough to join her brother at the boarding school. Instead they turned to ways to soothe the girl, give her energy to work through sleepless nights, so that they may at least regain some sanity and stability.

For the most part it worked, and the sleep terrors evolved into insomnia, only resurrecting when she slipped away into a deep enough sleep. It was one such occasion that Ari discovered she was cursed with the gift of magic.

As blood curdling screams pressed past her lips, she could feel the shaking of her mother's firm grip, though in her stupor filled state, it felt like nothing other than outstretching claws from the darkness her mind had created. As Ari pushed fought against the hands, a strike of lightning tore her not only from the dream, but her mother's grip.

She awoke to see the twitch of her mother's digits, as she remained heaped on the floor away from her bed. As Ari reached out to console her mother, the woman in front of her recoiled, without thought. While of course the action was not intended to push the child away-- and merely a knee jerk reaction at the shock of the situation, her mother's reaction startled the young girl: shaking her to her core.

She had already known that her condition was not only hindering her parent's quality of life, however, it was now apparent with the introduction of magic, she putting them in danger as well. So, she began developing a plan. She would leave home. With or without her parents' permission. She would leave until she was able to cope with her insomniac night terrors, or she had fully mastered her magic. Preferably both.

It was a cool autumn's night when she left her family's villa. The ground was already frozen, the night that she had left. It had taken her months to convince her parents to let her leave, and it was only with the threat of running away that they conceded-- seeing their child off safe was better than waking up to find her gone. Still they had waited till the looming threat of winter to see her off, hoping that the girl's journey would be delayed until spring's fairer weather-- though not even snow would deter the young woman.

She had pursued her journey in solitude, searching desperately for answers to the endless amounts of questions that flooded her being. She found herself seeking refuge in Magnolia-- seduced by the allure of fairy tail, and its promise of family: something she had found herself without, in long months on the roads.
