The next morning, they woke up early, around six. It was getting cold because of the change of season, so Mei took a warm shower, put on a thin sweater and jeans. She wore those comfy ugg boots and combed her hair. Sometimes she wished she had long hair, but having short hair also had its own set of benefits. To be frank, there were more advantages having short hair compared to long. At least for Mei. Long hair was usually bothersome. Of course she had tried keeping her hair all long and nice, but her mother always told her to get a haircut and she listened.
“You ready, Mi Mi?” asked Mei cheerfully. Mia floated around her head and said ‘yes’ in a singsong voice. That made the Lamian giggle. She double checked her room to see if she had left anything and then headed down to the lobby. It was good to stay in these not so fancy places sometimes. They could check in and check out at any time. It was about six thirty when they left the place and headed in the direction of Magnolia that was a few hours walk from the port town.
Magnolia was not the coldest part of Fiore, but the breezes that blew through the town made Mia shudder. After living in Orchidia Town for her entire life, Mei was barely bothered by the chill, since her hometown was in the north of Fiore. It seemed Mia was not as accustomed as Mei was to the cold. Maybe she was from the south or something. She never really asked, but would Mia know to answer, where she was from if Mei asked? The Lamian did not want to confuse her companion with questions like that.
“Alright, here we are!” Mei announced, pointing at the station. She went directly to the station because she didn’t want to waste time in Magnolia before reaching Baska. Mia hopped up and down on her shoulder, balancing herself with her wings so that she didn’t fall off as Mei walked.
