Nyx Paris

A lost child wailed for his mother, a man frantically searched for his missing dog, shopkeepers screamed out offers on the top of their voices to attract customers and customers desperately tried to bargain for the best possible prices. This was the Crocus market, a place which was always drowning in the sea of people. Not a single empty place could be spotted between the stalls. Some held a hand against their forehead to shield themselves from the sun, others made fans out of newspapers or magazines. The sun mercilessly shone down upon the market. Beads of sweat glistened on everyone's forehead and many faces turned red due to the sweltering heat. The salty odor of sweat mingled with the nose tingling aroma of spices and the sweet smell of flowers coming from the florist's shop. All of these smells mixed together and gave the market a rather unique scent, which hung in the air from early morning to late evening. Market stalls lined the route, and Nyx paused for a moment to survey the flamboyant scene, and observe the milling throng. Lovers strolled hand in hand, casually browsing, whilst housewives hustled and bustled, and haggled over the price of the exotic fruits and other imported merchandise, with vendors of various nationality.

He was a haggler by nature. He loved nothing more than to go to the markets and haggle over bric-a-brac whether he needed it or not. If the vendor was asking for five he'd offer two. Then he'd allow himself to be bargained up to three but never as high as four. Sometimes the vendor would get huffy about it and refuse to sell, but Nyx usually got his own way. It gave him a buzz to get things for less that everyone else was paying, all because they were too polite to haggle. If he haggled he didn't need to earn as much and his time was valuable. With spare time he could write his stories which he prized as his art. So he haggled every market vendor to their lowest price, which was always less than half of what they were asking. That mean less shirts to iron and less floors to scrub. When the sellers saw him coming they would roll their eyes and put up a fuss, flailing arms to shoo him away. But he knew it was all part of the act. Nyx was a regular customer and his money was good. After the deals were done they'd smile and tell him the drama in their lives, like he was their therapist. Most would become quite animated and seek sympathy, which he always gave. It was all part of life, this drama of getting the goods he required. He never came home without a smile on his face and some new material for the precious work.

After the tiring duty of constant bickering with the shopkeepers, Nyx thought to go back to his inn for a nice time to relax. Apparently even that had problems of its own. Batra, the bartender, was scammed. It was rare to see such a cool and collected individual to be so heated and in the moment. It was unbelievable, to be quite frank, but not completely impossible. Nyx decided that aiding the one who provided him shelter for so long would work out - an eye for an eye. Batra was offered to have the conman caught for a week's worth of payment ignored; that was a deal Nyx definitely didn't mind. "Deal."

And the oddity immediately got to work. Dashing out the door of the inn, the man seemed to resemble a bloodhound at the very moment. His eyes were stuck against the ground, in search for the conman. Thankfully, Batra made his job that much easier by describing what the conman was wearing today. Purple jumpsuit, eh? Way to stand out. Upon finding the damsel in distress, though in no particularly positive way, Nyx approached the scammer and threw a straight towards his jaw. Looking around to make sure the authorities weren't nearby, the dark mage proceeded to drag Kyle back to the inn. Despite the fact that Nyx knocked out the conman for a good cause, there was still so much that he wanted to avoid with the authorities. Through previous run-ins, his name was definitely on their list as well. Arriving back at the inn, Nyx threw the seemingly lifeless body of Kyle towards Batra. The black giant threw a bottle of beer towards Nyx - they had an unwritten and unspoken connection and agreement then and there. It was simple. From this point on, they would both work to each others interest, for the sake of both themselves and each other. Nyx was used to deals like these - it would work out. No, it had to work out.
