ORGANIZATION During the mid-third century, after the Church of Illumin had gained prominence in the West, the Church decreed that the teachings of the Church would be spread throughout the known world in order to redeem the masses. Thus, the Church selected a group of its most charismatic and devoted priests and sent them on a mission to proselytize the people of the continent. Unfortunately, the Church had not prepared these men for the rigors of travel nor the hazards of the world. The priests who survived their missions recounted tales of harsh weather, inadequate supplies, attacks from bandits and even encounters with horrible monsters. To ensure the success of future missions, the Church set about training holy warriors, Holy Knights, to accompany and safeguard their missionaries. In practice, these "Protectors of the Word" proved to be more successful at converting the native peoples than the Priests that they were assigned to defend. Impressing the locals with daring deeds, powerful weapons, and martial prowess was far more convincing than the condemnations of a soft-spoken monk. However, once the Word had been spread to every major city of the West, the "Protectors of the Word" faded from public view. REGULATIONS
BUILDING The military headquarters of the Holy Knights is a large fortified fortress. LEADERS Divine: The Divine is the leader of the Church at large, based out of the Grand Cathedral in Crocus. The Divine of the Church is always female. Some countries however, has their own Divine, who could be a male. The duties of the Divine include the well-being of the Church and the organizations which are affiliated with it as well as the further spreading of the Church's message in the known world. However, if a Divine is too senile to rule, then her role is largely ceremonial. In the Fiorian Church, it is customary for a Divine to name her successor before her death, but this does not guarantee their ascension. Upon the death of the current Divine, every member of the Order is required to travel to Crocus for the Grand Consensus. There, they elect a new Divine from among themselves, or choose another member of the Church. The vote must be unanimous for a new Divine to be properly elected. Once crowned, the Divine takes on a new name as a symbol of her office. The current Divine is Beatrice IV, an older woman who has done a lot of good in her younger days in the Church. The election of Divine Beatrice IV was controversial, as her colorful past as made many of the Order reluctant to elect her, despite the fact that Elizabeth VI, the previous Divine, had named her as her successor. In the end, Beatrice IV was successfully elected, and began her reign in X750. Order: The Order is an organization similar to the Council. While the Council reigns over the Rune Knights and enforcing the law of the country, the Order reigns of the Holy Knights and attempts to uphold the word of the Church. Similar to the Council, the Order is also composed out of ten members. There are many similarities between the Council and the Order. Even in the Order, there are political games being played among a few members to become the de facto leader of the Church. Some are loyal to the Divine, while others can't wait for an opportunity to shift the balance of power within the Church. Augusto: Augusto is one of the most prominent names in the Order. His father served the Church as a Supreme Holy Knight for decades and his mother was a former member of the Order. Augusto practically got raised within the halls of the Grand Cathedral in Crocus by the Revered Mothers and Fathers of the Church. He quickly applied to become a Holy Knight at a young age and made a name for himself by growing rapidly through the ranks of the organization. TITLES
