Client:
Father Jerad: Father Jerad might be young but his devotion to the teachings of Illumin have made him one of the youngest priests ever in charge of a church. He offers a shoulder to lean on whenever the citizens are distressed, and manages to lift up the spirits of everyone with his kind words, regardless of whether they are a believer or not.

Summary: Father Jerad has been up all night due to the presence of a ghost in the graveyard behind the church. He has tried everything to communicate with the ghost and find out what has been bothering him so he can pass on peacefully, but he gets no response from the ghost. After some research, he found out that the ghost comes from the grave of Perry Miller, whose wife recently inherited quite a sum. Perry's daughter, who is not related to Perry's wife as she is her stepmother, has been left penniless. Father Jerad believes some foul play was involved in Perry's death.

Enemies: None

Objective: Assist Father Jerad by investigating the case of Perry's death so that his ghost can finally rest.

Details:

  • Create a topic in Magnolia Streets.
  • Meet with Father Jerad, who will share with you the recent turmoil caused by Perry's restless ghost in the cemetery. He will add that he has reason to believe there is a possibility of foul play in the death of the man and ask your assistance in the investigation.
  • Start your investigation by meeting Margret Miller, the second wife of the late Perry.
  • Her despair at her lover's death will seem exaggerated. You will notice the house she lives in is decorated with several new and luxurious items. The wife will share the cause of death to be an accidental drowning in the bathtub, after dinner.
  • Next, meet Margaret Miller's step-daughter. She will tell you that ever since the death of her father, Margaret has threatened to kick her out and that she selfishly spent a lot of the inherited money on useless junk.
  • Meet with the Rune Knight who investigated and recorded the death of Perry Miller. He will tell you that Perry was found dead in the bathtub at around 10 pm and then direct you to the medical mage who performed Perry's autopsy.
  • Meet the medical mage who conducted the autopsy on Perry Miller. She will tell you that she was paid by Margaret Miller to do a quick autopsy because the wife wanted to offer peace to her husband's soul as soon as possible.
  • She will tell you that, as per regulation, they usually save samples from the bodies in case further investigation is indicated.
  • Request the medical mage to retest certain samples. The results will show that the man was poisoned.
  • Return to Margaret Miller and inform her that you will need to investigate the house.
  • Under the basin in the kitchen, you will find the source of the poison used on Perry.
  • Inform the Rune Knights and Father Jerad of your deduction that Margaret murdered Perry to inherit his fortune.
  • The Rune Knights and Jerad will elicit a peaceful confession from Margaret and she will be arrested.
  • Father Jerad will ask you to be the one to share the bittersweet news with Perry's daughter. She will thank you and offer a small chunk of money from her rightful inheritance.
  • Return to Father Jerad who will offer you your usual reward.
