'I'm sorry.' she stated simply. Before she could channel the courage required to broach all the topics she wanted to run through, she changed her mind. Just letting the apology hang between them for everything she'd done and possibly for all the things that she may have to do in the future. This was to serve for the moment when she finally found a reason and will to severe ties with him.... again. She huffed, mentally preparing for explanations that weren't too loaded, that would support her apology should he choose to dwell on the subject. He was going out of his way to ensure that at least her departure from the faction wasn't going to be bitter. Unfortunately that wasn't something he'd succeed at with ease.

Haru was walking beside Akira as she slowed down suddenly and extended a hand to hold his arm. He halted as well the moment he noticed her drop her pace, and he wished he hadn’t. If he had not stopped, she would have probably held his hand. Now, he lost out on that. The silly things that people in love regretted.
He thought she had spotted something worrisome when she slowed down. However, she simply apologized. It came out of nowhere and he was left confused. “What? What for?” he asked, taking a step towards her. She looked a little stressed. Something that was so rare for the ‘always-cool’ partner of his. That short moment of vulnerability gave Haru the courage to get into her personal space and try comforting her. He assumed she was apologizing for leaving the Knights. Standing close to her, he held her hand and bent a little so that he was looking straight in her eyes before he spoke. “No… They should be sorry to lose someone like you,” he said.

His gesture beckoned her to cease the moment. Her arms shot upwards and her fingers laced behind his neck. She held him in a swift embrace, now offering two words, used as often as the ones she'd uttered before, but probably as meaningless without an attached context. 'Thank you.' she whispered softly in his ear, before pulling away and going as far as to step away to create distance again, physical... and mental. She cleared her throat. 'Best not let Nilan down and be on our way. right?' her words were nervous and slightly embarrassed. Her pace increased rapidly as though she had to make up for the time she'd lost. Mostly she hoped to keep her face averted from Tsuru so he didn't see the flush on it.

He finally breathed out heavily, realizing he had been holding it in all this time. Haru stood there for a few seconds as she swiftly put some distance between them and walked towards the forest, finding the determination to get back to work. Obviously, Haru had no clue what was going on. He assumed she was annoyed because he got too close. But she hugged me! his brain countered. Girls are so confusing! he resigned.
Nevertheless, that small moment left his heart beating abnormally hard. And this after he had finally come to terms with the fact that she was leaving. Now, he wasn’t sure if he could let her. For a moment, he even considered leaving his faction and joining the Holy Knights just to be with her. That’s when he was reminded what Adelaide said and it killed the mood instantly. Shaking his head, he followed Akira.

There were no questions this time and she was grateful for that. She had no intention of listing the things that made her feel such gratitude towards her ex-partner. It would take too long and it'd hardly mean anything, given that all her acts were going to squander her words, for reasons she couldn't explain yet.
Soon they were at the outskirts and sure enough they spotted the figure that countless townsfolk had described. She slipped behind the trunk of a large tree, peering over its edge to keep an eye out for the man's actions. She felt the keen urge to pull Tsuru alongside her, using this as an excuse to reach out again, but she merely tugged at his robe. He possessed the smarts to follow suit anyways. His closeness was going to be difficult enough in itself. The man plucked something out of his pocket, a vial of sorts, and spilled its contents.

Haru couldn’t see anything. He was completely behind the tree, while Akira peeked to see what their target was up to. The tree trunk was wide, but not so wide that the two of them could hide behind it comfortably. It forced him to stick a lot closer to her, and he could smell her hair at that proximity. It smelled like a flower garden. That definitely didn’t help him focus. All he wanted to do was hug her from behind and bury his nose into her hair. Which he would have successfully did had the hooded figure not heard the crack of leaves when he took a small step to get even closer to her.

When she noticed the ground that he'd spilled the liquid on slowly change in appearance she grew worried, it was enough reason for her to suspect him. 'We have to get him.' she stated before leaping out of their hiding spot towards the man. He wasn't too fast and it didn't help that Aki unleashed a small blast of energy towards him, that caused him to be flung further away from them, but break his momentum entirely. He lay there groaning and grunting, trying to get to his feet in vain. She loomed over him, frowning, then she shrugged and turned to Tsuru. 'I could get all the information we need from him, by using what we have at our disposal... But you know, I think I won't take the risk. Should let Nilan do the honours all by himself.' she said, slightly sourly.

The culprit may have had a head start, but he had no chance of outrunning the two of them. Akira didn’t even give him an opening. She had already sent one of her invisible spells that knocked the man down to the ground. Before he could get back onto his feet, Haru was already on top of him, cuffing his hands.
For once, Haru was going to agree with Akira. The town was in danger and they had no time to coax the guy into giving the information they needed. His meddling with the forest plants was proof enough that he had something to do with the plague. So, why not use her wand and extract all the information needed to stop this whole thing? When she said she wasn’t going to do it because she wanted Nilan to have the honours, he was about to convince her to cast the spell.
Unfortunately, just then, Nilan arrived at the scene. “Ah! Good job,” he said. It was obvious that he hadn’t trusted them with bringing the target back alive. So, he had followed. Haru shook his head in disbelief. “All yours,” he said, as he stepped away from the cuffed suspect and began walking away. Now that the inspector was here, he didn’t want Akira to use her weapon. It would only implicate her more.
