Ace Brookes

Ace Brookes was woken up by a light tapping on his room’s paper sliding door. His eyelids felt heavy as ever as he struggled to open his eyes and reply to the B&B host. It was apparent that the old couple were Joyan from the way they decorated their house. It was elegant, neat and comfy. Plus it didn’t come with a hefty price tag as the young mage needed all the jewels he could save at the moment.

Before he even knew it, his eyes were already closed again as his mind dived into a nice peaceful state and his body embraced by the warm stuffy air. He has been working overtime these past couple days and his body just needed that extra rest. However, the young Rune Knight had to prove himself to his superiors. This was going to be his best shot at getting promoted and he wasn’t planning on blowing it at all. All he had to do was straighten up and do a couple more extra quests so the captains are reminded of his presence when considering the candidates. Not as easy as it seems though. Considering he would be the youngest ever Rune Knight to get the title of “seated” at the mere age of fourteen. All these thoughts flooded his head in mere seconds.

His trail of thought was abruptly interrupted. The peaceful silence in his room was disturbed once more with another plain light tap.

“I’m up… I’m up… I swear I’m up.”

He murmured under his breath just loud enough for the old lady to hear him. He rolled out of bed and got ready as fast as he could. The light thudding of his feet against the wooden floor can be heard as he speedily walked through the hallway to the dining area. He had his breakfast in less than ten minutes and went straight for the door. “Thanks for the food. Oh and I won’t be here for dinner” he stated just before slipping his shoes on and leaving the house.

The cold outdoor breeze brushed against his smooth chocolatey skin as he started to stroll through the streets of Magnolia. The young mage had a slightly different plan for today. He was going to dabble with a couple new spell ideas.

There was so much sitting on the mind of the young Viking Lord. Firstly he still hadn't received word of how his people were holding up but leaving to go back would be a waste of time. With Bunda leading the village in his absence he was sure he had nothing to worry about but still, he just couldn't help but wonder what was going on over there. Besides that he worried how Skaal was holding up back in Iceberg, with his father's condition it was only a matter of time before...well...you know. However, worst case scenario was that his mother would take over and that wasn't such a horrible thing. Some would even argue that his mother had more battle talent and leadership skills than his father. What weighed on his mind the most though was that weird shadowy figure he'd seen on the roof yesterday. Those icy blue eyes honestly struck some fear in him, something Vali thought he'd forever be immune too; fear. Who the hell was that Shadowy figure? And what did it want with him? He hoped that it was nothing serious because from remembering yesterday he sensed that that being had a strong magical presence. Sitting alone in his room would only make him think too much so he figured it was best to get some fresh air. Training never ceased to relax him. The half-elf stood before moving towards the bathroom, brushing his teeth, showering, then quickly putting on his gear before dashing out of the inn.

His destination was the east forest. All he wanted was some fresh air and space where he'd be able to get some reps in. Body conditioning was important, especially in someone like Val wanted to maintain his body. The walk wasn't long considering that the inn he stood in was rather close so in no time he found himself entering the city of trees. The sun began to poke out from beneath the clouds, the birds chirped happily and the trees swayed with the blight breezes. It amazed the bronze toned fairy that Fiore had such amazing weather. It was nothing like the harsh winters of Iceberg. Just walking through such a beautiful forest put his mind at ease- that was until when he was deep enough in the forest the ground beneath him began to shake. "An earthquake?" he asked himself, halting in his tracks. A moment later his eyes beheld a giant snake like creature erupting from the ground about 4 meters in front of him. The creature roared as it came from it's underground home. Immediately the viking leapt back. The creature seemed to have no end to it's size, slowly ripping from the ground as it shakes until finally it revealed it's size. This thing had to be about 40 meters long. "What on earth..." he wondered in Icebergan. The creature turned it's head towards Val, roaring before quickly going in for the kill. It's fangs revealed themselves as it neared him.

Instinctively Vali lunged to the left in the nick of time, dodging the creatures wrath. "A demon?" He asked himself in Fiores language. "Shit."

Ace Brookes

Obviously, the most suitable location to try out new spells without accidentally poking someone’s eye out was in Magnolia’s east forest. The young gas mage has been there multiple times before to master his craft. He was well aware of the creatures that lurked deep in that forest and had no intentions of wildly running into one.

He weaved his way through the busy alleyways of Magnolia in attempt to shorten his journey as much as possible. The streets were crowded as usual with all the residents and the travelers, each attending to their own needs on a busy weekday. Shortly after, the gas mage found himself slowly leaving the hustle and bustle of inner Magnolia and was now venturing closer to his destination. The footpath was gone, massive tree trunks scattered across the forest ground. The tree branches intertwined high up over the young mage’s head as he swayed from side to side looking for the perfect spot to commence his training. Knowing how picky Ace is, it was going to take him a while to find a spot he feels comfortable in. His eyes darted all around cautiously as he scanned the area. He rested his hand on a fallen tree branch that was blocking his way and all of a sudden felt it start to rumble. In a flash, he pulled his arm away and was dead still. “What the hell is going on” he whispered to himself. The rumbling only intensified and was coupled with a loud monstrous roar from Ace’s left. His arm heavily leaned over the broken branch as he leapt over it and dashed towards his left. All of a sudden, from behind all the trees that obstructed his view, a huge serpent slithered from underneath the ground. It was way bigger than any snake Ace has ever seen that’s for sure.

The young rune knight was frozen out of intimidation as he gazed at this massive creature. He wondered what had triggered it appear. Just before he could come to any conclusions, he spotted a tall well-built man with silver-ish hair planted right in front of the serpent. Before the gas mage could regain control of his bodily functions, the purple skinned serpent exposed its fangs and darted towards the man. Ace reacted instantly and started running towards the snake-like monster, but the man had already successfully lunged out of death’s way. Ace maintained his speed and kept charging towards the creature’s head which was now very low to the ground. "Go! Run!" Ace shouted at the top of his lungs. The young dark skinned mage leapt in the air and was now about 5 meters away from his target. The gas mage flicked his index finger towards the serpent, sending a small yellow-green pellet in attempt to debuff its endurance. Unexpectedly, the snake pulled away and dodged Ace’s shot. He was now going straight towards the serpent that was focused right back at him. Without thinking, he used his other arm to throw a right hook encased in nitrogen gas at distance from the serpent, but somehow the creature just took the blow and proceeded to knock Ace down violently onto the ground. His left arm took most of the damage as he tumbled on the rough forest floor. He could barely even feel it anymore. The young afro haired boy glanced over in the man’s direction to see if he had given him enough time to run away. Unknowingly if the man was even a mage or capable of fighting back.

After knocking the gas mage down to the ground, the serpent seemed to stay focused on him as it unleashed another loud screeching roar that echoed through the forest.

The young Viking wasn't sure if this was just one of Fiore's many wild beasts or if this was some sort of demon creature, but he couldn't believe that he was actually about to battle something so mythical-like. The first thing he'd do when he killed this thing was eat it, meat like that had to count as a delicacy. Val stood up, closed his hand and conjured a throwing Knife but was interrupted by the voice of a...boy? The child was dark skinned and had an afro, like Tomoe's but much thicker. He told Vali to run, bringing a slight smirk to the Vikings face. The boy's blazing spirit reminded Vali of himself when he was younger. Brave and always ready to tackle a challenge when need be. However, this boy was in for a rude awakening.

The elf at first crossed his arms and watched the boy as he leapt, using some sort of spell that seemingly had no effect on the snake at first. The boy then proceeded to use some sort of spell to encase his fist in what looked like wind to deliver a punch right to the Snakes head, only for the snake to be unaffected and smack him directly down to the floor. "Damn. That's got to hurt." he said in icbergian. It was time to get back in action. Vali began by stomping his foot, then moved towards the kid that slid and tumbled.  A magic seal appeared around his pelvis area that would cause a spark of yellow energy to zap around his body. By the time the kid stopped tumbling, the young viking Lord would be kneeling down only a foot or two away from him. His free hand touched his pelvis area, creating a magic seal that would produce blue energy. This energy would spark just like the yellow energy both looking like different colors of lighting.

The creature roared at the two males but Vali was ready, watching the creature as it picked it's head up readying itself for another attack. "Hey friend, I am Vali." He began with a smirk, eyes still attached to the snake. "You seem like you are strong-" The Giant snake suddenly whipped it's tail towards Vali, releasing some sort of stinger? Quickly he threw his magical throwing knife to stop it dead in it's path. Glory magic was nothing like other magics. Since Vali came to Fiore, he's witnessed a number of mages but not once has he been impressed by one of their magical abilities. As of this moment, he was the strongest mage he knew. Of course that was the confidence he only recently acquired.

On Iceberg there weren't enough mages to compare himself to. Only 10% of the worlds population were mages so you could imagine where most of them were. The stronger the giant elf's magic grew just as he grew. Glory magic allowed him to create weapons directly from the realm of Satri, it truly was a blessing. "I will fight it, you attack from behind. Get her where she cannot see you, aye?". The creature began to swing it's tail. Tree's fell as smaller animals scattered away from the area. The blue and yellow lightning-like energy continued to spark around the Viking Lord.

Only a moment later the beast brought its head crashing towards the kid, fangs revealed and ready to feast. Vali reacted quickly, dashing forward to protect the boy. When he was met with the snake's mouth, he shot one of his hands hands up and reached down to grab the bottom lip. By the grace of the gods, he was able to hold the monsters mouth. The dirt tried its hardest to keep his feet planted. However, the strength of the creature and the force it had behind it made it a little hard. "Mmmmhpff..." He grunted. The force alone began pushing Val towards where the boy had fell. His eyes quickly glanced over at the boy.

Ace Brookes

His soft delicate skin was now bruised after scraping the harsh forest floor. A light trail of blood marked the few meters where his left arm dragged as he tumbled back. The young Rune Knight still got up strong, showing resilience. To his surprise, the tall male that had been attacked by the serpent was still present. In fact he was right next to Ace and even introduced himself. The gas mage still had his eyes fixed on the giant snake. “Ace. Nice to meet you” he said with his usual frown, unwelcoming any friendliness from strangers usually. Next thing he heard was the man’s plan to take the creature down. So the silver haired mage was willing to help clean up the mess he started. Who knows what kind of action he must’ve done to trigger the snake’s reaction. Could’ve been trying to get the serpent’s laid eggs for tomorrow’s breakfast. That was for Ace to find out after.

Ace nodded briefly and went with it, immediately running around to the snake’s right side. His right arm stuck out to draw closer the abundant gases in the surrounding air then proceeded to clench his fist as he hopped onto the serpent’s body. The abundant gases guided his merely chiseled body as they formed currents of wind just strong enough to defy gravity and allow him to stay pressed onto the snake’s slithering restless figure. Vali, which appeared to be a mage as well, had done a superb job at holding the creature’s head low towards the ground, giving Ace just about enough time to race his way up its bendy figure.

“On three, tug down on its lip with all your might” he stated out loud.

“One…..” His feet planted firmly at the base of the snake’s head as he positioned both of his hands over each other to conjure yet another spell. His left hand shaky and unsteady still managed to be at the base of his spell. “Two…..” The dark skinned mage targeted the oxygen in the environment and manipulated massive amounts of the abundant gas, slipping concentrated blades past one another in synchrony in such a small area. “Three!” He shouted out loud and followed with a grunt. Packed with a forceful thrust of his hands downwards, the gas mage managed to send a stream of shredding gas straight towards the center of the serpent’s head. In hopes to send the creature’s head plunging down towards the rugged forest floor.

Ace’s gravity bending spell was still active after shooting the shredding stream of oxygen, which was eventually going to bring the Rune Knight back onto the snake’s head whether damaged or not.

Ace was a rather simple enough name. It was rememberable and it suited the boy in fact. Whoever this boy was obviously was no pushover. Hell, anybody brave enough to consider going against this giant beast alone had to have some type of power. This boy had just that; power. Vali instructed the boy to attack the beast from behind while he held it's mouth open with all his strength. Him and the giant creature were both equally matched, surprising even the viking. The young lord hand't done anything to awaken the giant snake from his knowledge. Maybe he entered territory that belonged to this creature. If anything, that'd make the most sense. Right now wasn't he time to try and figure that out though. Ace had made his way to the right side of the beast using some sort of spell to perfectly run up it's back. His magic seemed like wind magic but the colors of the wind varies which led the lord to believe that it was probably a better variation then simple ol wind. The boy shouted, telling Vali to tug on it's lip on the hunt of three. The viking nodded in understanding. When the boy finally reached the head of the snake began counting.

Back on Iceberg there weren't many creatures but the few that they did have were also just as exotic as this one. Val had seen some giant flying avian creatures before, some Elephant-like creatures but he had never seen a creature like this. Snakes couldn't survive the harsh winters of his home country- nothing really could. All they had for meat was tigers, bears, sheep, goats and sometimes even their own horses. Of Cours that was nothing to complain about because when roasted correctly they all had an exquisite taste. However, once this giant snake was defeated he would have no problem cutting off a chunk of it's meat and feasting it. Who knows, maybe it went for a hefty price in the town of Magnolia.

Once the boy shouted "Three", the Fairy tail mage pulled down on the top half of it's lip with both his hands. Although he didn't know the boy he'd just have to blindly trust that he could damage the beast somehow without allowing Vali to get hurt. As the lord pulled down on the snakes lip, the boy released a crushing stream of what seemed to be compressed wind energy directly onto the beasts head, causing it to crashing int the ground. The animal screeched in frustration and pain, quickly bring his tail to save him by swatting whatever was by his head. Vali moved quickly though. Once he saw the tail being raised towards Ace's back, he leapt towards it shifting his body so that his crossed arms could take the damage instead of the boy. No matter how strong this kid was, he was still a boy and it was Vali's job to make sure he wasn't totally harmed. The tail whipped Vali, sending him crashing through a couple of trees 5 meters towards the left side of Ace. "Rgh." He grunted as he quickly brought himself to his feet.

The creature on the other hand wasn't quite done. Just as it's tail whipped Vali it brought his head up from the ground roaring as it did so, shaking it's entire body vigorously and attempting to get Ace or whatever was on him off of him. Vali bended his finger as a magic circle was created. "Watch out, Ace!" He shouted. His accent thick as always almost sounding like if he had something stuck in his throat. Without wasting another moment, Vali flicked his finger sending a black ball towards the head of the snake. This was his first time actually concentrating the power of the Satri gods for an offensive attack like this but the moment called for it. The ball moved at a quick speed, reaching the snake in no more than half a second. When the small ball connected with the snake it'd explode, damaging anything within 2 meters of it. The creature roared in frustration once more, the smoke from the explosion swarming around the area of it's head. Vali moved forward though, he didn't know if Ace would be alright or what he was doing but he had to move towards the snake as quick as possible. Hopefully the boy had another something up his sleeve.

Ace Brookes

The young mage managed to send the snake’s head flying down towards the ground with the help of this young man he’d ran into while venturing deep in the forest. It was all absurd to the young boy, how one minute he was looking for a spot to train his spells and a few minutes later he’s caught up in this battle with the largest snake-like creature he’s ever witnessed, fighting along someone he’d literally just met. As for right now, he was too caught up in the midst of it all to realize just how bizarre it sounded. The main concern for these two right now was to take this creature down by any means before someone got severely injured.

The serpent unleashed a loud thunderous screech after receiving some damage and immediately retaliated by bringing forth its tail to knock Ace off its head. The gas mage turned back only to see the creature’s oversized tail flying towards him. Out of nowhere, Vali popped up a meter or so in front of the Rune Knight and took the blow instead of him. Ace clenched his fist as he watched the silver haired mage get knocked onto the ground. Before he knew it, the snake was once more planning on going for him while he still stood steadily on its head. He heard Vali’s warning in a thick foreign accent as he shot yet another spell towards the serpent. The gas mage lunged backwards as he disbanded his Art of Abundance: Gravity Bender spell. The lunge sent him toppling lightly for another five meters off the snake’s head to about five meters from where Vali stood. It was a good idea to attack it while it was distracted.

The young gas mage wasn’t really sure what his counterpart’s personality was like. Surely he was a brave warrior for standing his grounds and fighting alongside the gas mage, however Ace knew better than to judge a book by its cover. He had no clue what his background was like or what his morals and ethics allowed him to do. Ace was curious to get to know more about this seemingly brave soul. He knew for one that his magic buffed his speed. He’d read about a several classes of magic wielding that allowed a user to do such things before but it was his first time running into such a mage. The young Rune Knight wondered what the man’s full magic potential was like and what it was fundamentally based on to start. These were all topics he was willing to discuss with the other mage for the sake of his own general knowledge and curiosity. However, more than anything, the gas mage felt compelled to test his own skills against those of the other mage in combat. His eyes gleamed with excitement just at the thought of it. It was definitely nothing personal or any hostility by the gas mage, it was just one of his traits. He was competitive by nature; It was hardwired into his brain.

The explosion from Vali’s attack flashed before Ace’s eyes and brought him back to the current matter at hand. “Ahh this…” He murmured to himself. This snake-like creature was starting to get on the nerves of the young mage. The smoke from the explosive spell was beginning to clear. “Vali.” He shouted with his raspy maturing voice, “Let’s put an end to its misery.” He spoke in a way different to most his age; more formal and straightforward. The apprentice ranked Rune Knight hoped that Vali had shared the same vigor as himself. He patiently waited for his partner’s confirmation while he leant on the tip of his toes ready to explode forward at the snake-like creature that was now just five meters in distance from each of them. As soon as he got the go ahead from his partner, Ace sprinted towards the slithering serpent with his fingers spread wide apart from each other while he conjured methane gas throughout his body. The gas then accumulated rapidly throughout his fingertips as he pointed towards his target, firing a needle-like shot of methane to lower the snake’s overall damage tolerance threshold. He immediately backed his first attack by jumping towards the creature and kicking a shot of nitrogen towards its temple. He would’ve still been in the air directed towards it as he would finish off his barrage of attacks with a second kick landing where his first nitrogen kick would.

Just as the Fairy Tail mage expected, the explosion didn't do enough to the snake. Of course he wasn't expecting it to do much anyway since it wasn't that strong of a spell. Vali wasn't that used to using his powers that well yet but soon he would be. For now though he would do all he can to destroy this monster in front of him. Ace managed to maneuver out of the way of getting hurt and landed only five meters from the Viking. The boy was strong that much was certain, but he wondered just how strong he was. Surely a boy of his age and size couldn't have been stronger than him. Just the thought of that being possible made the Icebergan a little embarrassed. Imagine being bested by a kid as young as this one.

Val didn't know a single thing about this child besides his name. He wanted to learn more about this boy, but more importantly he wanted to know where the hell his parents were. Did they know that their son was out randomly traveling in the woods? Perhaps they knew how strong he was anyway. Maybe he just didn't have parents? So many questions. Later the young lord would have the time to learn about Ace. The boy called out his name, his voice raspy and mature. "Aye." he responded. The boy then suggested that they put an end to the creature's misery and Vali couldn't agree more. With a nod, Ace sprung into acting, Vali himself following after, crossing Ace from behind and moving towards the little of the snake monsters body. While Ace used some sort of spell to weaken their enemy, Vali approached the snakes body.

Without wasting anymore time, the Viking began to deliver blow after blow, punch after such to the creatures body. After about six punches, he leapt onto it and began slamming his fists. Something other than himself emerged and he began to go full berserker mode. Vali didn't stop until his fist ripped into the snakes body but even then he continued on. "I sacrifice you to Odin, the all father. Die serpent." He said in the icebergian language. Even if it wasn't necessary, the 7 foot lord continued to crush the snake, almost in a psychotic trance.Only when blood drenched his clothes and face would he stop, looking at Ace wherever he was before hopping off of the creature.

"It looks like we have succeeded, brother." He said smiling warmly through the blood on his face. He knew that he should have wiped it off, but part of him was barbaric in nature. The blood served as Aesthetic. The Viking leaned on the snakes body. It was no longer alive, the middle of its body completely torn through. "These forests are dangerous for a kid, but you are obviously no normal kid. What are you doing out here?"

Ace Brookes

The mage with the oversized afro was too focused on landing his own barrage of attacks to notice what his partner was doing to take the beast down. However, the young mage finished his series of spells and kicks then landed right onto the area where the snake’s head had previously crashed. The twigs and leaves that were in this area were either obliterated or just blow away because there seemed to be no trace to any of them unlike the rest of the forest floor that had been littered with broken branches and dead leaves just as well as shrubs. Ace brought his attention to his partner only to see him going all out with full power, hurling his fists at the serpent’s thick skin, as if he was attempting to rip through its outer coating and expose its inner flesh. What a monster, Ace thought to himself as the man roared in his foreign language. He hadn’t had enough by just taking the creature’s soul, but he also seemed to humiliate it by vandalizing its carcass. The gas mage brought his index finger up to his lower lip in thought, with his eyes still fixated on the seven foot man’s barbaric action. Being the intelligent kid he was, he knew better than to judge Vali. He could’ve come from a long line of hunters who bathe in the blood of their enemies… If anything, it intrigued him.

His partner hadn’t stopped until he was drenched in the creature’s thick blood as Ace had presumed. Drops of it even made it as far as a few inches from Ace’s feet. He casually looked down onto it and crouched to inspect the viscosity of the fluid by dipping two of his delicate little fingers in. The heavy odor had already spread around the area, saving Ace the trouble of sniffing his fingers. His eyes darted back at the silver haired mage as he got off the now rotting carcass.

The knowledge-thirsty Rune Knight had recalled reading a couple books about Icebergian culture and if he had to take one wild guess about where this barbaric warrior was from he’d have to say just that; Iceberg. His thoughts started linking up.

~ In Ace’s head ~

“Harsh and unforgiving land… Proud and fiercely independent warriors… Iceberg, one of the most rugged regions on Earthland… Very snowy and cold…” – Excerpts from a book he’d once read

“It has to be.”

His eyes peaked another quick look at the seven footer.

“Even his facial features. Chiseled in a way that spoke hard-wearing and resilient. His physique, built to withstand the challenges his own homeland threw at him. His hair color must be matched to that of certain Iceberg bound tribes. Such a unique shade. Not to mention that thick accent. Were they all this barbaric and savage? Was he even friendly in any wa…”

His thoughts interrupted by the man’s statement with a warm smile.

“I guess so…”

“Yeah it’s all over now.” He replied to the man with a very subtle smile on his face paired with slightly lifted eyebrows. Ace Brookes wasn’t that talkative at all. On the other hand, his thoughts do run wild as he heavily relies on processing masses of information. If someone were to peek into his head they’d most definitely be overwhelmed.

He listened carefully to what the man had to say. “I’m here to do just that. Embrace the danger and train. How about yourself?”

Vali didn't see the need to have any of his spells activated anymore, so without a single word he released them. The blue and yellow bolts no longer sparked around his body. The viking began to make his way towards Ace as he responded, saying that he was out here for the dangers of the forest. In fact, he was training just as Val was. The elf cracked a smile and for a moment he just looked at the boy. It shocked him how much he saw himself in the boy. The bravery, and confidence this young lad had was much beyond his years. At his age the only difference was that Vali was still immature. Off rip this young man seemed to be more mature than a lot of kids his age. "Aye, that's why I'm out here too. What do you say we train together?" He suggested. The fairy extended his right hand forward for Ace to shake. It was covered in giant serpent blood but this was merely a small test. If Ace shook his hand then it'd show the type of person he was, if he didn't then that'd say another thing. "I could use a training partner."

After Ace shook his hand or decided against it, the Viking lord would remember something sort of important. "Almost forgot." he said aloud as he turned towards the serpent. Quickly he made his way over to the corps before bringing his fingers together. He then shot his hand into the body of the serpent, creating a hole for him to start from. Using his other hand he conjured a random knife and began to use to cut through the serpent, cutting out a chunk of chewy, juicy meat. The meat was big enough to be thrown over his shoulder, but the smell was quite dangerous. It was fresh, but the stench was strong and almost had a toxic aroma. Vali knew that this serpent was poisonous though because when he held it's mouth he looked at it's fangs noticing no glands for toxins to secrete through. He also didn't notice anything in it's throat that would allow it to spray poison so he was sure this meat would be fine to feats on.

After gathering the meat he'd turn back towards Ace. "You hungry, lad?"

Ace Brookes

The afro haired mage stood there with piercing hazel eyes still waiting for his counterpart’s response as he made his way towards him. When the Icebergian mage had gotten to a stop near Ace, it was necessary for the young boy to fully tilt his head backwards to maintain eye contact. When he spoke, his thick accent confirmed Ace’s speculation regarding the man’s ethnicity for sure this time. It turns out he was also here to train and had already suggested that the two mages get their tasks done together. Ace’s full hazel eyes gleamed as his pupil’s dilated. Now that was something he was more interested in. It was a challenge to fend off the giant serpent, but in the Rune Knight’s head, battling off sheer power was nothing that required much skill as much as it did resilience. His tactical mind was one to look over how he can manipulate his delirious gases to aid him in tight combat situations.

It has been a while since the gas mage fully dedicated time to practice and perfect his craft. Perhaps this ‘light spar’ was to show him how far back he has been set and how he needs to polish his noble gas mastery. There was yet one spell that he hasn’t fully tested out yet. This battle might be the true testing grounds for this one. It was one that was supposedly going to drain more magical energy than any other spell he’d cast before. Still, he’s seen more dangerous spells performed right in front of his eyes. This was probably his bridge to a next level of spell casting; one that required more mana and concentration just as much as it did practice and mastery.

“A training session would be interesting…” He stated casually with his eyes rolling elsewhere as he tried to hide how eager he was to train. Vali then extended his right hand out to the gas mage about a foot away from his face. The stench of the serpent’s bloody corpse accompanied the Icebergian’s hand. With a brief pause Ace reached in to his pocket and pulled out a small handkerchief hanging between his index and middle fingers, then pointed it up about an inch from the seven footer’s hand. Whether he took it or not was completely up to him, however Ace meant no harm or insult to the man. He just had no intentions of unnecessarily reeking of serpent blood by the time he got back to the B&B.

Vali had turned back once more, this time hastily walking towards the carcass and cutting up a big chunk of its meat and slamming it on his shoulder. Only to return again and ask Ace if he was hungry. “Sure, I’ll take a slice.” He stated with his eyebrows still arced downwards, “We are cooking it though, right?” His face showed no concern as much as his question did. The gas mage was a warrior indeed. A brave and intelligent warrior, but not one with barbaric or reckless actions. He had his own blend of elegance and monstrosity. The Rune Knight would then give his legs a rest by sitting down with his back pressed against the massive trunk of a nearby tree.

“So, why Fiore out of all places?” There was no harm in getting to know the man before indulging in some serpent meat.

Despite the viking lord towering over Ace, he didn't seem intimidated at all. Though Vali would expect no less from a kid who glared danger dead in the eyes only moments before the calm. A kid like this would do well in Iceberg so Val could only imagine just how well he was holding up in this soft ass country. The kid had proven who he was just by pulling out a napkin. That alone spoke a thousand words. Vali didn't mind though, he took no offense to the gesture and proceeded to use it before retreating towards the snake. He was quite eager to taste the meat of the creature but of course he'd need to cook it and all. After returning to the boy and asking if he'd like to eat as well, Ace had given Val the response he hoped for.

"Don't be a fool, boy, of course we're cooking it." He said coldly with only a smirk to indicate that he his words were used in a joking manner. Sometimes people couldn't stand how Val spoke. He was so proud and blunt and his way of joking was rather harsh. In the time he's been here he could honestly say that no Fiorian had been unbothered by his brutal way of speaking. He hated softening up but it was important for him to adapt and so he did...just not now. Ace didn't strike him as someone who he needed to be all lollipops and giggles around. Ace then sat at a tree, resting it would seem. The Fairy threw the large chunk of meat in front of the Rune Knight then turned to gather 2 sticks.

From behind, Ace asked why Fiore? Such a broad question but it could only mean that the kid had figured out that he wasn't from Fiore...but then again...that was as obvious as day. "For a better future for me and for my people." He answered while turning around and tossing the sticks near the meat. "Start tearing the meat into strips, aye?" he added. Truth was that a better future was his primary motivation for coming to Fiore, but that wasn't the only reason. As lord of Skaal he had a duty to avenge his brothers death and that meant somehow punishing the government of Fiore. It was complicated because if he did avenge his brother, than his people wouldn't have the lives they've always wanted. The Viking turned to gather stones, and dry grass before returning to ace.

"What would your parents think if they found out that you were about to feast on giant serpent with a barbaric seven foot elf from Iceberg?" 21 questions it is then. Val placed the grass in a pile before grabbing the rocks and banging them together attempting to get a spark to start a flame.

Ace Brookes

Ace let out a slight sigh of relief. Knowing they weren’t going to have ‘serpent sushi’ was definitely something to be happy about. One could argue that Ace was a clean freak in a way. He avoided unnecessary play in the dirt and only dove in when he had to. It wasn’t bad enough to stop him from ripping through the serpent’s flesh, for he knew what had to be done and was well aware of the consequences. Luckily enough he managed to only get drenched in sweat, but who knows what might happen when he faced off against this barbarian. He shuddered at the thought of Vali’s hands rearranging his organs after a gory encounter. He shook his head lightly getting rid of that image.

A chunk of the serpent meat slammed on the ground in front of him as the man answered his question. To the gas mage, that seemed like a cliché answer. Vali probably had his own greater reason which he wasn’t obliged to give to the boy. Ace stared the meat down for a couple seconds and proceeded to shred it into much smaller strips as instructed by the Icebergian. “So there was absolutely no point in not shaking his hand…” he thought to himself.

That was when Vali threw out one of his own questions at the boy. The way his question was phrased told Ace that his counterpart was also an ‘elf’. The gas mage couldn’t help but smirk. “I’ve never met my parents” he said quietly as his thoughts drifted off. “My grandad though, he probably knows, he’s probably proud too” he then continued as his pitch went back to normal. Like any other kid his age, he’d obviously wonder where his parents were at times like these and why his grandfather has been keeping it from him. The tough years he’d spent alone with his grandfather were his cold ruthless answer; his parents simply didn’t care about him. Luckily enough his grandfather put in all the effort, making him into the young man he was today. Heck he was definitely proud of his strong independent serpent eating ass. The gas mage’s mind was at ease as he said “Nah he’s definitely proud” after a long pause. His smirk only grew bigger as he continued to shred the meat.

The meat was all cut into nice even pieces and ready to be cooked. He looked at his partner and seen him still trying to start a fire. The Rune Knight conjured hydrogen gas in mass amounts and held his hands around the twigs that Vali had set up. “Try it now, just a little spark though” he stated. “How about these guilds of Fiore? Ever considered joining any of them?” he then added as he tried to form a better understanding of the man's beliefs.

There it was. The piece of information that suddenly made this boy so much easier to understand. He didn't have his parents around. Vali nodded as the boy spoke, only mentioning his grandfather. As he began to tear the serpent meant into strips, he admitted that his grandfather was probably proud of the fact that he was fending for himself. That reminded Vali of his family... they were big on toughening their boys from a young age. Looking at Ace talk about his grandfather brought joy to Vali's heart. Although he didn't have his parents it was good to see him still have a relative as some sort of guidance. A kid like Ace would grow up to be amazing with the right people standing behind, the viking lord could see that much. After a pause, the boy confirmed that his grandfather was definitely proud. "Aye. Why would he not be? He has a grandson that is far stronger than people twice his age." The viking lord laughed as he continued to brutally strike the stones together.

The boy had finally finished cutting the meat an here Val was still trying to start a fire. Honestly, this wasn't his talent. For some reason he always sucked at starting fires but he was a great cook when the fire was finally on. Ace had done something with his magic. Now that he was up close he could tell that this was definitely no ordinary "Wind". Gas maybe? The boy placed his hands around the twigs while using his magic before telling the crimson titan to try at it now. Raising an eyebrow, the viking struck the stones against each other immediately creating a flame. "Fuck the gods..." he smirked. "Ya know, I usually do a better job at this." he joked. The Fairy grabbed a piece of meat then grabbed his stick, stabbing the chewy meat and sliding the twig through. Slowly he placed it over the flame. "I am apart of the Fairy Tail guild." he stated confidently. Simple and sweet. "I had no idea what guilds were until 3 weeks ago, but I think that I made the right choice." He leaned twisted the stick to make sure that all sides of the meat would be roasted correctly. "What about you?" He asked making direct eye contact.

Fariy Tail was probably a blessing if he was being honest. His experience there had been nothing but positive. Not only did he meet some great people but he was motivated more than ever to become stronger. Needless to say that the crimson titan had two families now; one in Worth Woodsea and one in Magnolia. One day, perhaps he would merge the two if he was ever given that sort of power. Leading is what he did naturally and with the guild master gone he could really make a difference. Everything would fall in to place soon. One day he'd have to decide if avenging his brother would be worth risking everything that he had worked so hard to create here. Maybe it would be worth it if he could build enough allies to back him up, who knew?

Ace Brookes

The dark skinned mage was genuinely happy to hear Vali’s remark regarding his grandfather, yet his face barely showed signs of content. It was still enough to show that the boy had appreciated what was said to him. It was hard to read his emotions with a simple glance. The young mage mostly put up a front by constantly frowning, but with a closer look his true emotions can be read through the windows to his soul; his eyes. No matter how inhuman one may seem, their eyes will always express their true intentions and expose their nature. In the case of Ace Brookes his eyes told many stories to those who had the time to stop and read. For being a fourteen year old kid, his innocent and warm hazel eyes sure packed a lot of emotion.

The reflection of the fire that Vali had started can be seen in the young mage’s eyes. He was a Fairy Tail member… No matter how many times Ace had visited the Fairies’ home town, Magnolia, he hadn’t been lucky enough to encounter someone from the renowned guild. “I’ve been looking to meet a Fairy for quite some time now.” He said as he maintained eye contact with the Icebergian mage, “What’s the hype about?” he continued. Ace had heard many stories about this guild’s accomplishments and about how its members all had a rowdy reputation. In fact, Vali’s persona fit perfectly in with the stories he’d heard about the guild. No wonder he was so proud to be one of them. Ace’s question was meant to tease the silver haired mage. He knew that rumors around Fiore told tales of the strongest mages being a part of Fairy Tail. To be honest, that just spiked Ace’s interest in sparring with Vali.

He poked a strip of the tender meat with a long twig and proceeded to cook it slowly over the blazing flame. “I’m a member of the Rune Knights. I was inducted as a Page trainee two years ago and worked my way up ever since” he said while pointing at his left ear lobe that was marked in a royal blue Rune Knights' logo. The gas mage had literally started with a bunch of other kids who had promising futures of being Rune Knights. Somehow he managed to prove himself and break into the hierarchy as the youngest official Page. There was no glory though. It was all tough work. Carrying armors, cleaning the dorm rooms, maintaining their horses. With even more dedication the young Rune Knight was now on the verge of becoming a Seated member. With only fifteen percent of all Rune Knights ever making it that far, he was guaranteed to prove to himself that he was worth more than what his parents labeled him as.

Ace looked down at the meat and inspected it to see if it had cooked properly. “Alright, let’s eat, Vali” he suggested. The more he thought about it the more eager he was to test his skills against a Fairy Tail mage. He sunk his teeth into the first bite of the serpent meat. Surprisingly enough, it wasn’t as bad as Ace thought it would be. The meat sort of melted on the young boy’s taste buds. He was no expert but the more he chewed on the meat the more exotic it began to taste. “Do you reckon we can sell this for much?” he asked as he scrutinized the strip of meat he had cooked.

"Fairy Tail is fuckin' great. The people are genuine and it is a beautiful place." He simply said. Fairy Tail was in a pretty bad place at the moment. Granted the people were great, they still weren't as strong as they should have been. Ace didn't need to know all of that though. It was like his mother always told him; never speak on family business.

Vali leaned back, legs stretched to the side with one hand holding him up. In his other hand the twig had been twirling in the fire. His strip of meat happened to be a bit bigger than the others, but even a smaller piece was sure to get him pretty full. Although this meat was tender and chewy it was most likely pretty heavy. The conversation between both dark-skinned males went on, Ace eventually revealing that he was a rune knight. "Fuck the gods..." He said aloud in Icebergan. The news came to him as quite a shocker, but when he thought about it there was really no reason he should have been surprised. Ace was a prodigy, that much was obvious. "I had no idea they accepted children." He snickered. "Good luck on your journey to climb the ranks then." he nodded.

The meat began to sizzle and pop, slightly crusting around the edges before changing into a brownish color. Cooked, it smelled amazing, raw not so much. The boy began eating his strip first. With his bite Val could hear how soft and chewy the meat was. Finally he sunk his teeth in and ripped a chunk off before leaning back again. This was the first time he had ever had giant serpent meat, but he ate as if he already knew what it taste like. Each time he chewed, the meat became a little slimier, a little chewier, and the juices filled his cheeks. It was odd. It kind of tasted like frog? A bit bitter, but also quite salty...like a pickle? Ace asked if the titan thought that they could sell the meat. For a moment there was silence. Val looked up and continued to chew, this time trying to determine if the quality was worth anything. After a few seconds he shrugged, still a mouth full of meat. "This is definitely better quality than lamb, or duck even. I think we can get a good deal on whatever we can carry." He managed to say. Quickly he swallowed the meat. "After we train."

Ace Brookes

Surprisingly enough, the serpent meat was giving off a completely different taste from what Ace had expected. When Vali had first cut a chunk of the meat Ace thought it was going to be impossible to even consider this as edible food. His hunger had gotten the best of him. To be completely honest anyway the meat gave a completely different texture and odor when cooked. Kind of encouraged Ace to actually give it a chance.

He listened to the silver haired mage’s reaction regarding Ace being a part of the Rune Knights and just shrugged it off. In his head he wanted to tell the man that they don’t actually take kids, but he supposed Vali would figure that out when the spar between the two of them actually starts.

Ace stood up and stuffed his face with the remains of the strip he’d cooked. “Thank you” he replied with a mouthful of food as he walked about a meter or two away from the Fairy Tail mage. The youngster began to stretch and warm up for the spar, not even considering waiting it out until the food started to digest. “Go all out…” he stated with a mouth muffled with food. He quickly swallowed what he had left and continued saying, “May this be a true test for the two of us, so no holding back." His left arm was still marked by dry blood and dirt from the previous fight. It didn’t look like there was anything to hold the gas mage back so he hoped his sparring partner had the same resolve. Especially after eating a thick strip of the succulent meat, his body felt revitalized and his good as ever.

The little afro walked his way to about seven meters from where Vali was sitting and continued warming up as his eyes sparkled with excitement. Ace would wait for his partner to get up, get ready, and make his first move.

The viking lord chowed down on his meal. It was chewy and filled with a bitter juice but it was much better than he had expected. Hell, even if it tasted worse than it did he probably would have eaten it anyway. Food was a necessity, not to mention he was hungry once he entered the wild creature infested forest. The two brown males had a quick casual conversation but it seemed like the time to chat was done as the viking noticed the boy stand up and thank him. Vali raised and eyebrow as the boy began to move away, forcing the food down his throat until the boy was two meters from where Vali had been sitting. "That eager aye?" He smirked before sighing and standing up. Vali unsheathed his dagger and held it in his hands as both his arms waited at his side. Ace stretched but Vali didn't see the need to. Back on Iceberg there was hardly time to stretch...ever. The kid seemed to either be confident in his abilities or really wanted to get tossed around as he asked Vali to go all out. "I do not plan on holding back." He admitted as his face readied for battle. That was the truth. One of the things he learned early on was to never underestimate an enemy no matter how young, no matter how small. Granted Val had made those mistakes still, but this time he would not, especially considering he had already seen a bit of what Ace could do. the power to produce different types of gases... he reminded himself. The boy finished moving at a distance of 10 meters from Vali before turning to face the standing Titan. "Your move, boy." he taunted with a tone as cold as Iceberg itself. Like the young Knight, Vali was covered in dirt and blood,. The dried animal blood stained his face while the dried blood and dirt on his body painted his gear. Battle was sort of Vali's comfort zone- not that he liked it very much these days. Sparring, however, was a very different story and if this boy truly didn't want him to hold back then his goal was to cover him in his own blood. Vali just hoped he wouldn't push this boy to a point where he was either damn near permanently injured...or worse, but surely a Rune Knight of his particular rank had faced threats probably beyond the Desiertan's elf own strength.

Ace Brookes

Ace’s face started to show a fewer array of emotions and seemed to focus more on that knot in his brow. He had no reply for what the other dark skinned mage had asked. Although this was one emotion Ace’s eyes couldn’t conceal; excitement. Ace glimpsed at his opponent’s eyes only to find a different soul that stood across from him than a couple minutes ago. Vali was giving a very serious look indicating that he was ready for battle. Ace was not one to judge, maybe that was just their way of intimidating their prey in Iceberg. The young mage was delighted to hear that Vali won’t be holding back at all.

With about ten meters between them now, Vali taunted the youngster by calling out that he could have the first move. The gas mage still showed no signs of interaction. At this point it was practically useless to have any small talk. It was apparent that both mages were locked in. Ace had already given up his bodily functions to the tactician within. From here on until he had seen the fear in his opponent’s eyes at least or until it was too late for him to save himself.

After a short pause the gas mage lowered his chin slightly so that his eyes peaked at Vali from just underneath his thick arched eyebrows. The young warrior sprinted off in the direction of his opponent as his fist glowed in a neon-like green layer of nitrogen. He shot his right hand forward with about four meters away from the Icebergian. The shot of nitrogen was targeted to land on Vali’s right arm just under his shoulder. The gas mage expected that by doing that he’d most likely land the hit on his opponent had he tried to dodge to Ace’s right. The young Rune Knight wasted no time and immediately slightly swerved left after shooting his Nitro Shot. He was still about three and a half meters from his opponent at this stage and had his left hand open in front of his chest. He carefully anticipated the seven footer’s next move.

Now was the time for action. Analyzation skills were essential if you wanted to be able to fight against enemies, big and small and the viking elf was extremely analytical. He often caught details that his peers missed, it was why he he often thought too much. Vali would take the silence between them as an indication that the boy would begin to move at any moment. He closed his left hand, conjuring a magic circle in it before a throwing knife appeared waiting for Ace to do something. This simple throwing knife spell always proved useful. Although it wasn't strong, it had it's ways of working if it was used correctly. Just after the throwing knife appeared, Ace began running forward while also conjuring a magic circle on his right hand. Green gas began to engulf his hand as he moved toward the seven foot lord currently at a speed slower than Vali's own. Slow. noted. Once Vali saw him begin to use the engulfed hand he too used his own spell. By the time Ace released his spell, Vali had also released allowing his own spell to clash with Ace's and dispelling them both. Once his knife left his hand, he swiftly transitioned the hand into a fist by balling it up. This time he made sure his thumb gripped his finger- a small detail that Ace couldn't possibly notice from where he was- while slightly shifting his body to face Ace just as his opponent swerved to the left to ensure his reaction to anything this boy may try. With a distance of roughly 3 meters between them and noticing Ace's hand open as he moved, Val was ready for anything. His entire role would be reacting since that's what he needed to work on the most. Granted he was a great offensively player and his magic was meant to deal serious damage, learning how to play defensively was just as important. Vali was confident in how this would play out though it seemed his sparring partner was also sure in himself- a dangerous thing for a kid so young and so much power. If he wasn't careful it could all easy back fire on him. All he needed was to wait for the right moment to strike, somewhere crippling that would force this kid to push beyond his limits.

Ace Brookes

His sparring partner’s reflexes weren’t that bad judging by how quick he was at targeting Ace’s spell. Heck, his aim wasn’t half as bad either. By the time Ace had swerved left his opponent was already taking on his defensive stance and facing the young Rune Knight once again. Ace kept moving in by utilizing his momentum. The gas mage wouldn’t let his opponent rest for a second as he immediately brought his left blood stained palm down over his right and pulled both of them back towards his right hip. Another magic circle had formed between his hands as he shot a pure green stream of shredding oxygen blades towards his opponent’s left half. The stream was 0.5 meters in width which gave Ace enough clearance to aim for Vali’s left abs, chest, arm, shoulder plus whatever was left out to the mage’s right side. (Approximately 0.25 meters of the stream would be sticking out)

Ace immediately followed up his stream by utilizing the height difference between the two mages. He ducked and swiped his left leg as fast as he could about 20 centimeters off the ground to Vali’s right. This was to knock his opponent down by kicking his shins had he tried to move to the left. His sequence of attacks would leave very little room for his opponent to dodge both strikes at once. Ace would keep his eyes focused at his opponent the whole time, wary of any tricks that he might try to pull off.

It was all happening too quick for the gas mage to enjoy himself just yet. He was feeling out his opponent’s abilities still and had hoped that he was true to his word. Ace wasn’t one to be underestimated. Although his size and appearance might tell one otherwise, his intricate magic’s mastery was what set him apart from many others. Not to mention that others expect him to be physically weak as well. He wasn’t particularly one of the strongest, yet his early encounters with his grandfather’s ass beating taught him a thing or two about how he should land his strikes making them that much more effective.

There wasn't any time to waste. As Ace grew closer, Vali created a small magic circle on his middle finger which had been directly under his thumb. He immediately noticed his opponent bringing using his free hand to connect both his hands and at that point Val knew that he was going to use the spell he had used before. The same spell that he used to blast the snakes head to the ground was the same spell he was going to use now and Vali had no intentions of feeling its wrath. Just. Since Ace was moving far quicker than his hands were Vali could have done a number of things like simple spin to the left or right to dodge the coming attack and hit Ace that way, or leap over Ace or even block with his own spell but he was going to do something a bit more destructive. At the very moment Ace pulled his hands to his hip, Vali leapt back 3 meters while also quickly flicking his finger towards Ace releasing a small ball of black energy from his middle finger. Given that his hand appeared to be a fist before the flick, he was sure Ace hadn't noticed such a small detail. By the time the magic circle was created for Ace's spell- just before it could be released, the flicker ball would have hit Ace's chest considering he was still moving forward and Val's own spell moved at 20 meters per second. At such a distance this was for sure a hit, at least that's what Vali assumed. Even if Ace had released his spell in the nick of time, the distance between them and their movements would call for Vali's spell to hit first, exploding on contact and canceling Ace's spell while also proceeding to damage him. Vali would keep his guard up once he landed, eyes still glued onto Ace. If he was caught the force of the explosion would deal a good amount of damage and would create smoke not thick enough to blind anyone of them.

"Why are you rushing?"

Ace Brookes

It was a very close call for the gas mage. Vali had lunged back to reposition himself another 3 meters from Ace and by the time his magic circle had appeared so did Vali’s. The mage from Iceberg had created a spell around his fist and was getting ready to shoot at the same time Ace was. All the gas mage had to do was aim a couple degrees to his left so that the tiny 2 cm ball would clash with the stream. Given they were both C rank spells casted at the same time, the two spells would end up clashing and negating each other.

The gas mage was now around 6 meters from Vali who had just landed from his lunge. The gas mage was quick to keep his left hand up in front of his chest and proceeded by dashing towards his opponent. It seemed as if he was the one hunting the seven footer down while he skipped and danced around to avoid Ace. The gas mage still had nothing to say to the man. He wasn’t one to be distracted easily.

The young man was once again within 3 meters of his opponent but this time he had nowhere to go. Ace had assumed that his opponent’s legs were still recovering from the previous lunge. With that in mind, the young mage threw another Nitro Shot at the man’s left pectoral and kept charging in from his right. The spell moved at 20 m/s so unless the mage lunged out of its way then it was highly unlikely for him to be able to miss this shot. Ace then continued with a left hook to the man’s side, moving it a tad slower than usual in case his opponent tried to reposition after the gas mage’s Nitro Shot would have landed. His right hand steadily rested spread out near his waist.

By the time the magic circle was created for Ace's spell- just before it could be released, the flicker ball would have hit Ace's chest considering he was still moving forward and Val's own spell moved at 20 meters per second.”

The magic circle is the maximum spell dimension for that rank. Considering you failed to include that piece of information (that there was a magic circle being formed) from your previous post (Post #20), then I shall assume the magic circles appeared roughly at the same time. Magic circles are clearly visible. Both our spells are at 20 m/s (standard) and both C rank, then it’s only fair they negate each other.

OOC:

Once Vali saw that the spells clashed as soon as he landed, he turned to the left and began running to pick up some wind. After four seconds of running he'd be moving at max speed and that was literally just it. Why was he running? Well, simple really, it was because he had to take the biggest shit in the world suddenly and to be quite frank that was much more important than a sparring match. It was obvious to him though that he could continue toying with Ace for a little while longer but there was no doubt that the kid could have socked him up here and there. Sucks that he wouldn't know for sure though. As he began running off he held his stomach and shouted towards Ace who was probably confused? Maybe he was fighting the air? Who knows, kids were kids right? "Apologies mate, That snake got the best of me!!Maybe he'd go play with his action figures or something like kids do. Either way Vali didn't care, maybe he'd see this boy again maybe not. None of that mattered now though all that did matter was him sitting on that toilet and releasing the biggest load ever. As he ran he activated his finger sword spell to cut the damn trees out of his face ti ensure that he would get home faster.
