Footfalls resonated against the wooden floorboards as Snowflake headed towards the room that she feared most going to. Silence reigned supreme within the hallway, and for someone who craved silence as much as a hungry child craved for candies – for once – the silence deafened her ears. Her footsteps paused right in front of the oaken doors as she thought about all the reasons not to do this came flooding in, as if her body chemistry just sent them a blanket invitation. She felt the soft panic that could growing within her, in regard to what she was about to do next. She closed her eyes for a brief moment and inhaled a large intake of breath to calm down her thoughts, anything and everything that obscured her final decision. Gathering the final ounce of courage she could summon she, then, slowly lifted up her hand and rapped her knuckles against the door.

”Belladonna,” she spoke, her voice faint and soft as she gazed ahead at the man seated in front of her at his desk, her guild master, awaiting for her presence inside his office. The woman fidgeted a bit in her seat, unknowing how she should start the conversation.

Noticing the awkwardness, Belladonna raised suspicion. ”Snow, what’s wrong? You seem…uncomfortable. I’ve never seen you like this.” For all the times she had ever conversed with Belladonna, this was the first time he had shown a solemn side of him to her.

”…I came here to tell you that I’m leaving Blue Pegasus.”

Silence.

The crown descended towards her lap, lower lips briefly snagged by her pearly whites as she tried to remain as calm and collected as possible, yet her fidgety fingers evidently showed that she was highly agitated depending on what was going to happen next. Belladonna was an unpredictable person; she could never guess how he was going to react, and it wasn’t until a few moments later, a hint of anger flashed across his eyes and that moment, she figured she was going to be screwed.

Ah, shit.

From within the look in his eyes, Snowflake expected Belladonna to respond with anger and betrayal – at the very least, she expected him to kick her out of the inn room with the parting words ’Never show your face in front of me again!’ or something of the sort. Instead, the flash of anger that appeared in his eyes immediately vanished as fast as it appeared and what she received was a regretful long sigh as he recollected his posture.

”I figured this day would come, sooner or later. After all, you’ve been in Blue Pegasus for so many years.”

The hunter remained silent, unsure of how to react and what to respond when Belladonna acted thoroughly understanding of her situation: it made her hard to resign from her position as a member of Blue Pegasus. ”I’m sorry” – was the only word she could manage out of her rosy lips. Snowflake was a dedicated and loyal member of Blue Pegasus; the only place where she called home for more than five years, where her closest guild mates were her family. To think that she would eventually part ways with them, it was heartbreaking for her, though necessary, as she was no longer the person she was before anymore.

Day by day, she changed. She felt like she no longer belonged in the guild. She yearned for something else, unknowing of what she exactly she wanted. Only time would tell, she supposed. To do that, she needed to explore further than her boundaries and discover more than what used to be comfortable for her. She was endlessly grateful for everything that the guild and its people had given and bred her until now; it was one of the only reasons as to how she became what she is now. As it usually goes, children leave their parents’ homes when they become of age, when they are capable enough to stand on their own feet, just like how she would have to eventually bid farewell to the one true shelter she had in her life.

”Thank you.”

As if Belladonna understood everything she meant with those two little words, he nodded. ”I wish you well for your future endeavors,” He paused, bringing himself to form a rather weak smile. ”You know you can always visit us. It’ll always be open to you.”

The young woman smiled.

From this day onwards, Blue Pegasus was no longer her home but it was now a part her history – a very significant one, that is. Albeit, she promised herself that it would always hold a place within her and if she were to lose her memories, she would retrieve them no matter what situation she was in. And so, the frost mage bid farewell to the only place she called home to find her true purpose.

Though she must say she felt as if a burden had been lifted off her shoulders, she felt empty afterwards. The sudden realization dawned upon her that she was no longer a mage of Blue Pegasus, one who held the title of of ’Blue Pegasus’ Heartbreaker’. From her lips left a long, exasperated sigh. However, her departure from the guild was far off from her true motivation; her desire to change her identity.

Yes, that was the reason she chose to leave her guild.

She no longer wished to be ‘Snowflake’ – Hikari Snow, as her real name was – the emotionless young woman and the famed frost mage from Blue Pegasus. She craved for a new identity; a different person, and to do so, she needed to leave her past behind and being ‘Snowflake’ would now be nothing more than just the previous chapters in her book. Confidence dominated her eyes – she would do this, for sure, as she lifted up her gaze, staring out beyond her, and prepared herself for what she was about to do next.


The night rolled over bringing a threat of a foreboding storm as the warm bronze sunlight became swallowed by the horizon. The sky was washed with grey, watery light illuminating thin patches to brilliance. Breath pale against the numbing air, she watched the sun set down the horizon through an alleyway, waiting for the perfect time for her upcoming appointment of utmost secrecy. When the time was right, she finally slid out, concealed beneath a black mask and hood, she willed herself to melt into the shadows, to become nothing more than a slip of darkness.

Knock. Pause. Three consecutive knocks.

A pair of emerald eyes shone through the sliding peephole behind the door, and she’d slide her hood down her shoulders to reveal herself. Once her identity was confirmed, the heavy iron door squeaked opened, beckoning for her entrance. The guard nodded at her in courtesy, for she was an old client of the place hence, her presence was rather well-acknowledged here. A familiar figure awaited her at the end of the hallway.  

”I didn’t expect to see you again, Snow.” The man began.

She walked up to the man, the doctor and a scientist who has helped her before with her previous transformations, from a human, to a machia, then to a demon only to return back to her original human state. They were all risky procedures with highly dangerous consequences, and at one point she thought she would lose her life doing all of this. Truth be told, she wasn’t even sure how her body withstood all those surgeries done to her – it was almost as if she was obsessed with it.

”I didn’t think I’d come here again as well.” The woman sat herself down on the nearest couch and crossed her legs. ”You know I come here for business, and I need something done as soon as possible.”

Doctor Nagi was a rather cunning man, doing his jobs solely for his research without much of a concern for his patients as long as he received the results he wanted albeit, Snowflake being one of his most loyal clients, perhaps she was an exception to receive a bit of a special treatment. ”I want to change my identity. I’m going to need a completely new appearance as well, a different personality – an entirely different person.” Her cold gaze pierced straight through his, and for a moment, she could sense a bit of shock within his eyes but, he decided to press no further about his doubts to her, which was a very smart decision of him. She didn’t need other people involving in her business.

”Can you do it, or not?” she snapped harshly.

”Who do you think I am? Of course I can.” A devious smirk made its way onto his lips before he added, ”But, it’s a dangerous procedure and has many consequences.”

”I’m aware that the procedure is highly dangerous for my body, if it wasn’t that important I wouldn’t have done it.” Her voice was firm and bright, clear from word after word and the gaze within her eyes was so earnest that Doctor Nagi dared not to question her once more.

”But, the consequences…” she clasped her hands in front of her, slightly anxious about the outcome wondering all the dangerous possibilities that could occur to her after the process. ”Tell me about it.”

”It is highly likely that you will lose all your memories. You wouldn’t remember who you are or anything about yourself if you wish to achieve a new identity.” The doctor explained, his hands flailing about to emphasize on the main points of his sentences.

She froze, her brows furrowing further into the center of her forehead. Her memories were the most precious non-tangible object that she has, and to lose all of them – what was she to do now? At the very least, she supposed that she would be able to hold onto the last of her memories of being a member of Blue Pegasus in secrecy but that would also be gone now.

”It’s something I’ve been researching for a while now and so far, it is impossible to carry out the procedure without risking one of them. But, well…” Nagi’s eyes immediately lit up as he looked at her with such hope, as if the world was ending and she was the only person who was capable of saving him. ”This is going to prove so useful for my project! I cannot believe it!”

Of course, his project was what mattered the most, she rolled her eyes.

The young maiden took a long while coming to a conclusion, her thoughts running wild inside the stubborn head of hers, unable to make a decision until that one moment where she pushed herself up the couch, determined to start a new life. ”I will do it.”

And so, a new chapter begins.
