Kaiser

Kaiser decided she was going to explore the city a bit more before she left. While she was here, she decided she would pick up some work so that she could make some money while getting to know the situation of the city better. She did not have any plans for it, but the vampire thought that being a somewhat important figure as a guildmistress, she ought to know about the situation of the country, its people and the different cities scattered across the nation. Myras had only become relevant recently. It was almost as if the city popped out of nowhere. It had always been there, but it had never been counted as one of the major cities of the country that guilds normally looked to occupy. However, that had changed obviously, with Blue Pegasus’ advance. Kaiser heard that another guild in the region was attempting to take it over as well, though she believed that her allies were far more capable of doing so. After all, if she did not believe that, she would probably be seeking out an alliance with the other guild. With Pabu casually sitting on her shoulder like she normally did, Kaiser headed to the meeting point where she was supposed to meet her client for the day. It was a funny task, to be honest. She was hired to be the bodyguard of an aristocrat from the city who wanted to visit the lower districts to buy some crafts he had hired one of the peasants to make for him. She was not aware of what the craft was, but she heard that the aristocrat paid the peasant a hefty sum for it, so she assumed it would be something large and magnificent. She hoped he brought people to carry the item though.

Kaiser

She was dressed in a way that people would not recognize her—a black hoodie, matching pants of the same shade and a black mask as well. Her hair was braided into a fishtail, and hidden underneath the hood of her top. She was in ultra stealth mode. There was no way anyone could tell who she was, that was considering they knew who was in the first place. Her job today was simple and easy, so she had a big chance to complete her own objective. To repeat, that is to study this city and its people. Of course, the job was also perfect for this. It was still quite early in the morning, seven on the dot to be exact. The weather forecast announced that there was a slight chance of rain today, but the vampire hoped not. Working in the rain was messy, especially if she needed to actually use her magic or fight some people in the lower district. She doubted it though. Peasants from the lower district surely would fear those from the other districts, considering the majority of them work for the people of the other districts. From the lower district, you could find laborers like factory workers, construction workers, and other such kinds of workers. If they decided that it was a good idea to pounce on the first aristocrat that they see, then they were pretty stupid. Kaiser expected them to either be kissing the high class people’s asses or completely trying to avoid the aristocrats in the first place to avoid getting in trouble or something. Pabu was especially curious to meet the client. She was very interested to know how this high classed individual behaved. She even told Kaiser. She said she even wanted to know what he ate for lunch!

Kaiser

Kaiser was just glad that her furry little companion had such similar traits as herself. She was quite the curious one herself, and somewhat arrogant, one might say. The vampire too seemed a little overconfident to some people, apparently because of the way she spoke and behaved. While she walked along the streets, she observed people rushing about, probably getting to their workplaces. Pabu was nibbling on a candy that she had brought with her. In fact, she had a number of candies in the pockets of her little jacket. She knew that the job would take a while, and so she brought some candies to nibble on during that time. Kaiser arrived at the meeting point before the aristocrat, and was greeted by the view of a posh vehicle zooming towards her. She stood still in her position as the vehicle came to a halt. Of course if you came in such a luxurious looking vehicle, you would be noticed. Kaiser scoffed as the man who was her client for the job exited the vehicle with two other people, one dressed like a butler while the other wore a suit and carried a briefcase and wore glasses. She assumed that the money that the aristocrat was going to spend today was in that case. For some reason, her client immediately knew that she was the one who took his job. With a huge grin he approached her casually, reaching out for a handshake as he introduced himself. “Hey, my name is Henry. I believe you’re the one who will be taking care of me today?” He had a playful look as if everything was amusing to him. Kaiser extended her right hand and shook his hand firmly, introducing herself as Catherine. That’s the name she was going by now.

Kaiser

“Cute name. I see you've brought your little friend too?” he said, cocking his head over to Pabu who responded with a blank look. She was pretending not to understand what he was saying in case he tried to talk to her or something. Typical Pabu. They started walking afterwards, the man wearing glasses taking the lead. Neither of the men that Henry brought spoke a word. Kaiser noticed that none of the men brought any sort of weapon, so it seemed like they trusted Kaiser fully to protect them in any case of danger. It would be funny if she just ditched them in such a situation, she thought. The thought brought a smile to her face, but none of them would notice, as it was covered underneath her mask. She was glad that they did not question her need to be wearing a mask. Henry started talking about the struggles that he faced in the morning getting ready, like how the maid did not properly iron his clothes, and silly little things like that. These were what you would call ‘first world problems’ and frankly Kaiser did not care about anything he was saying so she just looked forward and continued to follow him. The butler guy seems to be the one with the duty to entertain him from the way he was responding to the things he said. Kaiser felt somewhat pitiful towards the guy. He had to tolerate this crap on a daily basis while doing butler work too. What a real struggle, she thought. She would honestly rather hear the butler’s complaints about his life than Henry’s because they would be more realistic problems than not having a tiny wrinkle ironed out in time or something. Pabu seemed to be completely ignoring Henry as well.

Kaiser

Throughout the journey to the craftsman’s humble abode, Kaiser had no choice but to bear with Henry’s constant yapping about his life. Of course there was some variation with the subject that he was talking about, ranging from complaints about his apparently useless servants and then not so subtle boasts about his colorful life. His father, being the breadwinner of the family, spoiled him lots, especially since he was the only son of his parents, he was the focus of their lives. Kaiser had known this feeling. She was an only child too, although that was a life that she had almost completely forgotten about, or hoped to have forgotten by this time though her memory was too good for that. Henry’s servants seemed to have become completely immune to his blabbering. Kaiser on the other hand, was starting to get a little annoyed, so she decided to change the subject herself. “If I may ask, what is the item that you are looking to purchase from the craftsman today?” The sudden interruption seemed to have offended Henry but just slightly. The look of being abashed washed over his features for the tiniest of moments before his usual cocky expression returned and he began to talk about the craft that he was about to buy. While they were walking into the section of the city where the seller resided in, Kaiser was constantly observing the surrounding so that she could catch anyone with the intent of harming her client. Of course she noticed all the dirty looks they were getting. Henry’s clothes were too flashy to not get noticed, and of course his little party of butler, escort and helper made it so obvious that he was definitely an aristocrat. Besides that, the way he was talking showed it too.

Kaiser

Henry made extra hand motions when he spoke as if he was dancing or something but she had observed this behavior before with others of a similar status, so she understood where it came from. The way he spoke showed that he was a big believer of whatever he was saying and had way too much confidence in his own speech, like no one could prove whatever he was saying wrong. Kaiser believed that if she tried to prove him wrong he would get so offended and get someone to kill her right there and then. If she was not on a job right now, she probably would have tried to offend him on purpose just for the fun of it. She came from a pretty wealthy family too, but she had gone through so much that she did not act like a spoiled brat anymore. She may have acted in such a way before while she was getting spoiled so much by her grandmother back in Joya, but not anymore, after all the experiences that life had thrown at her after their pathetic retreat back to Bosco. After so much babbling they finally encountered the first lowlife who decided to block their way and point at Henry, asking who he thought he was to be walking around in these areas like he owned it. Kaiser visibly rolled her eyes and blasted one of her lower ranked spells at him, not potent enough to take his life, but enough to show him to stand down and know his place. Kaiser was not a big fan of Henry but she was not going to lose her chance of getting big money. Maybe she would find a way to make this right later when she had the time and energy for it.

Kaiser

The aristocrat was quite impressed with her display of magic even though it was quite destructive. He even asked for her to do it again, but Kaiser just gave him a look that said ‘Are you serious?’ and he just shut up about it. She could not believe that he was willing to neglect the damage that her magic would cause just to see it being used again because it brought him amusement. The look on his helper’s face was also quite funny. The moment he asked Kaiser to use her magic again, the helper’s eyes bulged out and the vampire could not get the face out of her head afterwards for a while. Pabu also covered her laugh with a cough. The butler however had a look that was completely neutral. She could not read his emotions. He seemed to be an expert in hiding his emotions, for the sake of not getting his employer offended, she presumed. Imagine getting your boss mad over showing on your face that you were tired and could not work any further. “I’m quite impressed anyway, where did you learn how to do that?” Henry asked, bringing Kaiser out of her head for a while. She then told him that it manifested naturally and she just trained herself to get better and better. She did not want to get into the subject of it, because that would mean revealing more and more information about herself, which she was trying to avoid for now. She was going by a different name, too, so it would not help her case if she revealed too much about herself and risked getting recognized for who she really was. She was not in the mood to come up with made up stories either about her magic and stuff.

Kaiser

Thankfully they arrived at the craftsman’s little house that was quite small. Kaiser could not imagine living in such a tiny space, but with their financial situation that she could guess from living in the lower district of Myras City, Kaiser believed that it was all they could afford. Henry did not even say so much as a ‘thank you’. His helper literally dropped the suitcase filled with cash in front of them while the craftsman presented the item to the aristocrat with both his hands and his head bowed slightly. He seemed to know his place and showed it too. Kaiser felt a bit bad that the suitcase literally fell on his wife’s foot while she was breastfeeding her child right next to him. The helper, being an employee of an aristocrat, was also quite cocky, not apologizing when the woman was visibly hurt and even let out a short yelp for all of them to hear. Henry of course acted oblivious to this as well. Only the poor husband turned to look at his wife with widened eyes, but did not dare disrespect the aristocrat and turned back immediately. Kaiser just stood there like a statue throughout the entire ordeal. She was hired to protect the man, so that was all she decided to do. No one seemed to want to harm him, though, so she was getting paid to do almost nothing. Well that was not right. It was almost like she was paid to listen to his whining and complaints. Henry made his helper check if the item was faulty or if there were any visible flaws on it, but it turned out well for the craftsman since there was nothing visibly wrong with the item. Kaiser thought that she would probably come back to this craftsman later for an item for herself as well. She liked his work. It was truly a masterpiece and she could not believe such a talented person was living in the lower district having to go through this kind of ordeal to have a living. She knew some others in the other cities who had less talent and lived better lives. Once the purchase was done, they began to walk back to the spot where Henry would be picked up. Apparently he was walking around to observe how the peasants lived as well. Kaiser was paid afterwards and they left.
