Venus Rosé

Yesterday, at lamplight, Venus Rosé received a mail delivered to her door; the letter was written with precision and grace, as if the writer spent a good ounce of their time to outline but a simple request, which was to meet the person at a designated location, signed by a familiar name at the bottom – Weirdlock. It seemed that the eccentric man has some detective work for her (finally), seeing how she had to do nothing other than cleaning his ridiculously messy office on her last request of him. The young redhead folded the paper over its neat valleys before letting it rest in her coat’s pocket, a silent sigh released from her chest as she departed the next morning.

Her arrival there was greeted by the client’s withering smile, standing by the crime scene that’d just occurred very recently that investigators were still finding solutions to the cause of it and unquestionably, she was most likely requested to be here to be a part of the investigation as well. ”Gods above, what a great way to start the day,” She walked in, approaching her client whilst speaking with an obvious hint of sarcasm.

”It seems that I’d arrived too late – two new bodies were found.” The investigator greeted, turning to talk to her. ”I’m sure you’re aware that I called you here to assist me with this investigation. I’ve got my hands full, so I hired an extra pair of eyes as well.” The woman’s mouth nearly went agape, for not trusting solely on her investigative skills but even to hire another person other than her. Venus scoffed as she crossed her arms over her chest, pondering that there was no other choice than to wait for this ‘new’ investigator.

Zane bought a magnifying glass. He was actually scammed, believe it or not. There was a street peddler that had been reselling them for double the price. Neither Zane nor Beelzebub were smart enough to realize this though, instead freaking out and being excited at the prospect of being able to use it today. They felt like real detectives! Having been called upon by Weirdlock, Zane felt so excited that he had walked the rest of the way there (after purchasing the overpriced item) with his new magnifying glass up against his non-patched eye for most of the trip.

Turning the corner towards the appointed meaning place, Zane prepared his epic speech. "Worry not Weirdlock, you've got the best detective possible on your side. I doubt I'll even need yo-" stunned by the fact there was another person there, Zane very unnecessarily  looked at them through his magnifying glass, his aim being so off that he didn't see even a portion of their face with it. "Oh, Venus. You're here?" Zane would really like to pretend that the glass gave him this info, but in truth he had recognized her in the second or two before he put it up to his eye. She really stood out. "Guess you can be my sidekick, then!"

Moving towards the body, Zane crouched down, looking at it through his glass. "Lemme see if I can find anything on this guy, Weirdlock. Don't worry - I've got one and a half sets of eyes to work with." The little remark referred to Beelzebub, something that could be considered a more literal version of an inside joke. "You realize that I can only see through your own eye, right?"

"... Shut up and help me look."

Guess who was the other detective? That’s right, the blonde namely called Zack – oh, Zane – whom she’d stumbled upon prior to this meeting several days ago, seemingly saving her from the clutches of bounty hunters. Despite their awkward encounter, the man was charming enough to help her rid of the hunters, and still accompanied her even after exposing of her own disguise. The fiery redhead wouldn’t say she was fond of him, although she couldn’t deny that he was likable to the least that she could tolerate having him around, which was honestly not very often.

”Not sure if I’d say it’s good to see you again, but I’m glad it’s you as my partner at the very least and not a stranger,” The woman peered down at the cheap, possibly fake magnifying glass in his hands and she could hardly resist laughing at him mockingly. Was that to imitate the appearance of a good detective? ”You won’t get anywhere with that.” She sneered and handed him an extra piece of magic magnifying glass that Weirdlock had given to her moments earlier. ”Here, use this. This is a special one apparently.”

It was only proven to her that it was indeed a unique magnifying glass when she lifted it up to her eye and witnessed the fingerprints laying on the body and around the area. ”Strangely enough, there’re lots of fingerprints on this body.” There were several prints to be exact – none that she could identify and possibly very different ones, so the conclusion that she could come to was that there were multiple suspects. Venus bent down slightly, leaning over the body with her magnifying glass if it would help her view the hints better. ”Look at this slit at his mouth, it seems like he suffered dying.” Pity left her being seeing the futile state of the corpse however, the remorse soon evaporated when she discovered even more prints that led them to the second body.

"Huh? What do you mean? It should be great to see me again! Maybe this is that 'tsundere' thing he's always talking about..." Zane questioned the possibility that she was exhibiting the signs of a common personality archetype in the Joyan comics Beelzebub made him read. "Not a chance, don't ever disrespect the fine culture of Joya again." Frowning, Zane went back to his inspection of the body, something that wasn't really getting them anywhere at the moment. His attention was brought to Venus once again. She had some kind of enchanted glass it seemed. "What, am I not magical enough for you?" Zane asked in return, not even sure what he meant by that as he accepted Venus' use of the magic magnifying glass. "I want that magnifying glass." Beelzebub commented, prompting a roll from Zane's eyes. Zane admittedly wanted that magnifying glass too.

Not quite appreciating the fact that Venus' observation of the body's wounds made him a bit queasy, Zane instead decided to spent a bit of time inspecting parts of the body away from the victim's wounds. Eventually it led him to a tattoo on the man, one Zane could swore he faintly recognized. "Hey, that's from that one gang around here, right? The White Star, I think." Zane smiled, happy that he was able to find a clue. Now he was going to plagiarize Beelzebub's deduction. "Hey, this tattoo is from that one gang from around this area, right? The White Star, I believe."

Now that Zane had now ruined his academic integrity, he stood back up to see what Venus was doing on her end. He was a bit curious as to what she was seeing through that magnifying glass. "Anything interesting? Can I take a peek?" Zane asked, trying to get closer to see if he could somehow see through the magnifying glass Venus was holding, though never close enough to really get too much into her personal space. There was a small part of him that worried he'd be going home with a second eyepatch if he tried that kind of thing.

The woman merely gave him a sneer together with a puzzling look when he left a remark on how she acted about his sudden appearance. Tsundere? What language was that? Albeit, that was the least of her worries when a dead body was lying right in front of her and thankfully, the blonde took the magnifying glass without making much of a fuss. Despite the mess of the corpse that was sprawled before her, Venus showed no signs of revulsion but rather, even drew herself close to it, awed by the magnificent abilities of the item that they’d just recently obtained. The master thief made a mental note to herself to steal the magnifying glass from Weirdlock once the quest was accomplished, for her to use it on ’other’ things.

When Zane didn’t speak of any word on the corpse, she pulled herself away from the body, lifting her gaze up to meet Zane’s, still with the magnifying glass lifted up to her eye. There were obviously no blood prints on him, but instead his head was inflated like a balloon and weirdly enough, she found it rather comical. ”I’m only seeing fingerprints but I think they’ll be useful for our case later, and these wounds...” her words trailed off as she continued to find more clues.

Unwilling to touch the bodies, Venus attempted to lift the corpse using what was available to her – the magnifying glass – and much to her surprise, she discovered a tattoo that also matched the second body. Zane, however, seemed to know what it was. ”You know him?” she asked. The second body didn’t have much clues, or fingerprints unlike the first; same way of death with similar wounds, other than the possibility that the two deaths were somewhat related.

Zane didn't know this man, and he technically didn't know this tattoo. There was someone who did, though. As Beelzebub explained in Zane's mind, Zane recited the words out loud towards Venus. "I don't know him, but I know the gang he's from. It's the 'White Star, they're a yakuza gang here in Hosenka."

Zane wondered at that moment if there was some sort of connection between the two victims. Standing up, Zane moved quickly towards the other body, inspecting the area where the tattoo was on the first. Sure enough the mark of the white star was there. "Oooh, look! This guy seems to be from the same gang. Maybe this was some kinda turf war?" Zane patted down the second man's body, hoping to find something or another hidden in their pockets. Something that could lead to more clues, hopefully. After all, there was both an ace detective and a pretty girl here to impress. Zane couldn't let them down. After a bit of searching, his hand came across a note in the second body's pocket. It was all folded up. Taking it in his hand, Zane smiled and turned to Venus, holding it to her. "You do the honors." He asked, seemingly for no other reason than to make the situation slightly more dramatic.

”White Star, I see,” repeated the woman as the red-head jotted down some more information on the tiny little notepad that fitted in her hands. With how brutal the murders were it wasn’t surprising to her that they were from a yakuza gang. At the sight of their grotesque wounds, Venus flinched. Thankfully, Zane did the honours of patting down the dead body in search of evidence – there was no way in hell Venus would have her clean and precious hands on a disgusting body and surely enough, he found a note hidden in one of the victim’s pockets. Unfolding the creases of the old and wrinkled parchment paper, she found nothing but a drawing that resembled a serpent in the shape of a circle.

Her brows furrowed as she tilted her head in confusion. ”What is this? The gang symbol?” She tilted the paper slightly into Zane’s view of sight to get his insight as well. It seemed that he’s proved himself very useful on their very first quest together. Once all the newly attained information was written down on her trusty notepad, she approached Weirdlock to present her findings as though she was submitting some kind of schoolwork to a teacher – like she would know how it was like when she couldn’t even recall whether she had some kind of proper education or not.

The detective work of the pair was stellar. They truly were a team to rival Holmes and Watson themselves. Actually, maybe not quite to that degree. Still, Venus and Zane had managed to make decent progress in their work on figuring out connections between these dead bodies. While Zane still felt a little bit burned from paying that much for what was pretty much just an entirely normal (subpar even) magnifying glass he was still going to be able to go home today satisfied with the result.

Zane reported their findings to Weirdlock, mainly about the odd symbol that Venus found who soon promised to pass it on to the city guard. Zane felt pretty good about the little paycheck he gave the two as well. Slipping the money into his pocket, Zane looked to Venus and smiled. "Well my excellent assistant, good work today. I'm sure we'll be back soon to continue this epic mystery another day, right?" Zane was very confident that the two would resume this epic questline soon. For now though, his bed waited for him. He was tired and was going to try to take a nap. Maybe get something for dinner after that - a normal day, really. No mystery about any of that.
