Another day, another cry for help with the ever growing rat problem in Orchida. If the rats were such a large problem in the area, why didn't the general population just move some place else. He was kidding of course as he couldn't he couldn't just suggest something so far fetched and insensitive. Well, he be out of a job and a good paying one at that. Ever since the cultist rat men showed up, he's been being paid top dollar and another mission with the magic, cultist rats just so happened to fall on his lap. he didn't know whether to feel happy that another high paying job came his way or if he should be annoyed that it came his way as he's been trying to dispatch them for quite awhile and then umber doesn't seem to be shrinking any. In fact, it feels like them ore of them he dispatches, three more rise up to take their places. No matter, Shichiro just decided he'd pick up his axe, collect Panther lily form the training ground and go find Keita in order to go to the guild hall to see what what was going on with this rat problem.

Orchida seemed to be overrun with rats right now, and it was a huge problem. The rat creatures that were pretty insane and acted like cultists were still running around and causing problems, and it seemed like today would not be the day that the city had some sort of reprieve from the rat creatures. The rat creatures had been spotted doing some strange ritual, and soon a massive amount of the smaller, more normal rat varieties were coming out of the wood works. Keita had heard about this from one of the many guild contacts that were sitting in the city. the problem was seemingly so bad that there were plenty of jobs for informants and other people for the Rune Knights and the other guilds that were hiring them just to sit there and tell their respective guilds that the rat problem had gotten worse, and what they could do about it. Keita knew that he would soon be picked up by Shichiro, as he was the superior officer and would most likely either pick him up personally as he had done plenty of times in the past, or simply send out some sort of message to him so that they could meet somewhere. He could also just be given orders to go off on his own at this point, but that would be a bit more dangerous. Keita was quickly preparing to head out for when he would get Shichiro's message, and so he made sure to put on all of his combat gear and grab his little pet.

Double checking the equipment he would be using for the job today, Shichiro had been wearing his Battle Cast Helmet and Armor for protection while wearing Beowulf's Axe though currently it was sheathed on his back for safekeeping until the time to draw it arrives. He wore a cape called Raegery's demonic cape which increased his dragon slayer magic even further than before. Normally he wouldn't wear a cape but of course, equipment that bolstered his prowess was always accepted. He had on Jaan Earrings and his magic radar for seeking out enemies and friends alike. Lastly, he wore an amulet around his neck said to give him protection from specific attacks. When all was said and done, he'd head out to Keita's location using his magic radar in order to find him and proceed to the neutral guild hall where they were taking all of their current rat related quests for the war on rats. Giving him a quick greeting with Panther Lily doing the same, they made their way to the guild hall and found the receptionist there seemingly overwhelmed by the amount of people either trying to share information on their findings or attempting to take quests that involved dispatching them.

It was not very long until the moment came when Shichiro traveled to Keita's location to pick him up. After they said a little greetings to each other and their pets, they quickly headed to one of the neutral guild halls in town to go ahead and get the actual details of the mission. Keita only knew that a large amount of normal rats were flooding into the city, but not much else beyond that. It seemed that they would need to greet the receptionist and wait a couple of minutes while they prepared all of the documents that were needed so that the two of them that were going on this request would have a good idea of what they were getting themselves into. While the receptionist was going and getting all of the necessary things for all of them, Keita simply sat quietly and made sure that he was ready. He did not really have anything fancy like his cousin here, with his crazy armor and weapons, and the only thing that was really worth noting about Keita was the special earthen visor that was on his head. this allowed him to control his magic and the element of earth with greater proficiency, and allowed him to learn faster. All he really did was make sure that it did not fall off of his head if he needed to do some harsh physical movements, and once it was secured, he simply sat still and waited for the woman to come back with more information.

It would take them some time but eventually, both Keita and Shichiro had made it to the front of the line in order to take on the request of murdering some rats. When Shichiro had told the receptionist they were here about the special mission, they had told them they could have skipped the line and came to the front at any time. This made Shichiro chuckle as he waited for no reason but he didn't want to exert his authority over other people without little to no reason. Then again, if they went to the trouble of messaging him, he assumed it was important enough to skip the line. The receptionist then began to talk about how the rat cultist creatures were seemingly gaining supplies by raiding trade caravans at certain choke points of Orchida. Their job was to go to some of these checkpoints and clear out the rats in a dummy caravan. The job sounded simple enough so Shichiro was going to take it with no hesitation. Afterwards, both Keita and Shichiro got the full briefing of the mission before the three of them headed out of the guild hall in order to find the driver of the dummy caravan.

As the woman walked back to them with all of the proper documents, she handed them over, and Keita started looking through them. After a bit of research from the scouts and field teams in the area, it seemed that the large increase in the rat population had a particular cause, and the guild had managed to figure out why that was. The large number of extra rats was because they were getting a lot of extra supplies, as the rat creatures had been raiding caravans for supplies. this also meant that the humans would have far less supplies than normal to fight off the rat creatures, and it was already difficult enough for them to do so in the first place. Keita look3ed around the papers, making sure he remembered the different hot spots that the caravans had been ambushed at, and the guild wanted them to pose as a dummy caravan, carrying supplies through one of the areas that had yet to be fortified from a previous raid. The long stretch of road was hilariously enough named the dairy road, as there were pastures on either side that were originally meant for herding cattle. Keita chuckled a bit at this, as it was sort of funny that they were going through a dairy area when the rats were going to attack them, and Keita wondered if the dummy supplies they were going to be carrying was cheese. It would just be strange poetic justice for him if the rats were lured by it and subsequently killed.

Looking for the mage that was disguised as a caravan driver, Shichiro had eventually come across them, confirming they were part of the rune knights that would help deal with the rat cultist hybrids. After the exchange, Shichiro had Panther Lily get into the caravan first and hide under some fake supplies. Shichiro would then attempt to do the same as best as he could in order to avoid detection long enough for when the rat creatures come close enough to mug the caravan rider. When the three of them were on board, the mage caravan driver began to make its way towards the area where its rumored to be the most dangerous for caravan. They figured it was easy to start here and just work their way to the least dangerous areas. it didn't take long to reach the first one where iot was rumored to be the most dangerous. The rats wasted no time making their presence known to the the four of them and the caravan driver had emerged form their seat to reveal to be a decently powerful mage. Shichiro and Panther Lily also jumped up from under the fake supplies to engage the rats in combat and cleanse the area of their filth.

It seemed like the plan had been fully thought of, and now it was time to execute it. The supplies were random things, but there was some food in there just for the smell, as the rats had a wonderful sense of smell, and really bad sense of eyesight, so it was better to go with things that had a pungent smell. This of course, made Keita almost crack up in laughter, but he was a calm and collected individual from his training, and so he resisted the urge to do so when he figured out what sort of supplies they would be hiding in. Some of the supplies were in fact some cheese, a pungent stinky cheese that was left to mold underground instead of in a store house. This made it taste really good, but the funky smell of cheeses was something that people who enjoyed eating it would need to get used to. Keita hopped under the supplies when he was prompted to do so, and was quickly buried in them. He could jump out at any time, but it would make for a better disguise if they were under the smelly cheese, as it would mask their own scent from the rat like creatures. As they were going, it seemed like the powerful cheese was very good at luring out the creatures, as they had barely gotten far from the town they were at before they were ambushed. The rats attacked, and the driver used some sort of spell to defend himself and the cart, giving Keita time to jump out and attack the rats.

Jumping out from underneath the fake supplies, Shichiro had unsheathed Beowulf's axe as his weapon of choice since it was his only weapon. Panther Lily unsheathed his musica blade and got ready to dispatch any rat who got near the cart and himself. he didn't bother with enter his battle form since despite being dangerous, they weren't very organized or threatening. Shichro had gotten the same vibe so he would refrain using any spells from his own magic and just swing his axe at the rats. There were eight of them in total so each participant had gotten two rats to deal with. Panther Lily dealt with them fairly quickly since he was pretty fast and powerful even in his base form. The driver of the caravan seems to wield a plethora of spells, slinging them towards two of the rats he was going to dispatch. Shichiro on the other hand was was enjoying the fight a bit more than usual and just swinging, hoping he would hit sometimes and other times hoping it drag the battle out a bit longer. Afterwards, they had defeated their rats and began to clean up the bodies of the rats before deciding on which area to go to next.

The battle rapidly happened as a large group of the rat like creatures suddenly started assailing them. Keita had hopped out from under the supplies as the driver, a powerful mage in and of himself, used some sort of spell that shielded himself from the first volley of attacks, in this case the attacks were poison tipped crossbow bolts. The rats were assailing them, and Keita immediately started to form a spell, one of the new ones that he had designed with his magic, and he was quickly covered with a form of stone armor around his body. The stone armor appeared to make him look like a terracotta soldier to better blend in with his summons that he used quite often, as this would confuse the rats quite a bit, as their intelligence and problem solving was lackluster at best. As he covered himself with the armor, he no longer had to fear the crossbow bolts that were whizzing towards him, and he only really needed to pay attention to the amount of mana he was burning, as the defense was quite a bit, but manageable. His more powerful summons were something he could not sustain for very long, and he had no idea if these were the only rat creatures he would have to deal with, so he figured he would limit himself to only his own spells and the basic summons that he had access to. Speaking of which, he started to cast another spell, this time he would summon his soldiers to fight.

After cleaning up the rat bodies and attempting to hid them away, the driver had return to their seat and resumed their journey to the other sites where reports of rat human hybrids had been sighted. The trip was a bit longer this time around which gave both Shichiro and Panther Lily some time to hide underneath the caravan's fake supplies. Once again, the performed the same strategy of pretending to be a normal caravan that was traveling around to bring supplies to and from until they were once again ambush by a small trope of rat men. The had slightly better weapons than the one before but they didn't have the numbers on their side this time around. Once again, Panther Lily and Shichiro had jumped out from underneath the supplies of the caravan and began to have another skirmish with the rat folk. Eventually, they had triumphed over them and gotten back into the caravan. Insteado f jgoing directly to the next site, the caravan driver decided to suggest taking a little break since the sun was going down at this point in time to which Shichiro had agreed with him. A nice little break form all the traveling and fighting they've done wouldn't hurt.

Hiding under the fake supplies was a really good tactic, allowing them to ambush the rat creatures with relative ease. It seemed that they were not used to dealing with brand new information, as they seemed to be sort of scattered and more focused on attacking the caravan than the people who suddenly sprung from it, even when they started to get attacked. Keita was already wearing his earthen armor, and he quickly summoned a couple of terracotta soldiers, who immediately started cleaving through the rat creatures. It was relatively easy to mop them up, and so they quickly fell to the combined might of the three mages that were there. After that, Keita realized that if something like this happened again, he would probably just summon his soldiers to do the heavy lifting so that he could save on the mana. The rat creatures blindly attacked whatever was in their line of sight, so it did not really make sense for Keita to leave the safety of the cart at all, even though it was strange to suddenly adopt a more commander type role in combat. this would optimize his usage in the fight, however, sop it was not all bad when you thought about it. Soon, the caravan was on its way once more, and there were more ambushes to be had, and they all played our sort of like the first one, with the rat creatures getting destroyed. Soon, they found a spot to camp out for the night.
