The Dragon's Dominion

Once upon a time the presence of Dragons was considered a common fact on Earthland. However, a tragedy saw most of their kin leave Earthland behind in the hope of avoiding future bloodshed. However, among the few who remained a young child dreamed of a renewal of the Age of Dragons...

Through the trials and efforts of her and her companions she saw her dream realized. Once known simply as Pergrande, events saw the rise of a new civilization within their lands. Having used her might to conquer a majority of the provinces in Pergrande under her banner, the Dragon Knight soon annexed the provinces from Pergrande and gave rise to the Dragon Dominion.

However, the name is not merely for show, among their denizen are shapeshifting dragons who have taken the Monarch's ambitions to heart, and decided to attempt to coexist with the mortals that once made these provinces their home.

Culture

The Age of Dragons: A bit of a peculiar aspect of the dominion's culture. While dragons are considered akin to nobility, meaning that slights against them are generally ill-received, their desire to coexist among mortals is real, and as such most have a variety of relationships with the mortals of the dominion. Although their approach to these relationships is a bit awkward compared to the other races, Dragons are often prone to consider the mortals they care about as part of their 'hoard', and as such they are quite protective over them. This often leads to a dragon to function as a guardian for a particular group of citizen.

The Monarch of Dragons: A source of fascination and admiration for the people of the Dragon Dominion, while there are countless tales of her cruel and tyrannical behavior during the conquest of Pergrande, there are just as many stories of her cheerfulness and kindness. As a result the people of Pergrande have come to consider her their ruler, although similar to the past there are some whispers of Ryuko having ties to a dark power...

The Dragon Order: While the Magic Council has a presence in the dominion through a representative that works closely with the Dragon Empress, the true authority of the dominion belongs with the Dragon Order whose word is law, they are truly judge, jury and executioner and only answer to the Dragonborn who in kin are led by the Monarch herself.

Not all is as it seems: While the dominion is occupying a majority of what had once been Pergrande. those who enter the dominion will frequently encounter the mysterious obsidian armor-clad knights of the Dragon Order, although unlike the Dragonborn these individuals seem more akin to automatons in nature.

Domain

The Dragon Dominion is under the protection of Ryuko, a mysterious dragon-like entity who has become considered the Dragon Empress of Pergrande.

Locations

The Monarch's Throne: The throne room of the Dragon Dominion's Monarch and also the meeting place for the Dragonborn, it is a place normally only granted access by means of an audience.

Dragon's Retreat: A favorite among adventurers, Dragon's Retreat is a tavern that prides itself upon its delicious food, plentiful beverages, and cheap accommodation for any adventurers seeking to find employment among the dominion. Due to the fact they offer discounts to those trying to make themselves useful, the place is often packed to the limit.

The Dragon Order: Also known as the headquarters of the local authorities. Commonly accessed only by the Order's members or these invited by the Order. Its domain is a large castle on the mountains surrounding the Voda River.

The Dragon's Tower: The Dragon's Tower is considered the main attraction of the dominion by far, often compared to the mythological Tower of Babel, this massive tower contains a magical dungeon that is supposed to help mortals test their limits and the closer they are to reach the tower's peak, the closer they become to transcending their limits.

The Monarch's Mansion: The Monarch's mansion, as the name suggests is the residence the people build in honor of the one who conquered the Pergrande and ushered in a period of peace and prosperity. Although too grand for her liking, Ryuko has offered the spare rooms to guests and adventurers alike who have proven their worth for the Dominion. Rumors suggest that a half-elf maiden can be frequently frolicking in a state of undress in the gardens, to the mild annoyance of the caretaker.

Arena Of Justice: The Arena of Justice, as the name suggests is the primary way for foreigners to settle grudges with each other. Done under the watchful eye of the leader of the local authorities and one of the Monarch's Champions, who serves as a liaison between the island and foreign forces. The only way to carry out the law on this island for foreigners is by challenging the offender to a one-on-one duel, and either being allowed to take them into custody by winning, or to carry out judgment right there and then. However, rules have it that an equivalent trade must be offered between both individuals. Freedom for freedom, a life for a life.

Sleep Proudly Graveyard: A somber graveyard within the city. The name translates to: Sleep Proudly, which is a reference to these who perished on Dominion's soil. If desired their body is either released to the family of the individual or if not claimed after a while they are given a proper burial ceremony on the island itself.

NPCs

Rhiannon: Also commonly called 'Rhia' by long term visitors, Rhiannon is the owner of the Dragon's Retreat. A young and mysterious lady who has been around for as long as people can remember. Some stories suggest she is a dragon, others jokingly remark that she just likes mythology too much. She is overall kind and understanding and often provides travelers with support and encouragement for their attempts to make a living in the dominion.

Eliot: A young and ambitious adventurer who seeks to join the Dragon Order in the hope of becoming a Dragonborn one day. Eliot is a passionate, albeit somewhat naïve person who can often be found hiring people to accompany him on missions.

Frey: One of the leaders of the local authorities on the island. Frey once made a name for herself as the leader of a famous mercenary corporation in Seven who alongside her crew settled down on the island and later on took the role of peacekeeper. Charismatic, cunning, and a master of martial arts, few could think of a better leader than her. However, she seems to be harboring a secret...

Hecate: One of the staff members of the Dragon's retreat, she is quite passionate about hearing the stories of Adventurers who traveled all the way to the dominion. If it comes to rumors and tales about the island there is no better source than Hecate!

Alpha: A Werewolf that is the leader of a small gang on the island. The man can be frequently found challenging adventurers to duels and causing general mischief on the island. Few know the reasons behind his actions, aside from the fact that he gets surprisingly restless around Frey.

Daewen: A maid working at the Monarch's Mansion, she often can be found hiring adventurers willing to earn some extra jewels by making them work around the mansion. Despite her enthusiasm for the work, she does struggle with the recklessness of her master, and the fact so many guests end up staying at the mansion.

Wysteria: One of the mysterious guards of the Monarch's Throne. Few know what she does during her free time, but when seen at the Dragon's tower she can often be found leading people into the Dragon's Tower and explaining the nature of the trials that awaits them. Wysteria is considered an Administrator, meaning she serves as a judge and referee during the trials.

Conquer Bahamut's Tower

People from all across Earthland have traveled in the hope to conquer the mysterious tower that is often thought to be the Tower Of Babel. A massive structure that rises all the way to the clouds above, the Tower of Bahamut is a magical dungeon that adventurers either try to tackle on their own or team up with to increase their chances of victory.

However, to appeal to the adventurers that frequently try to climb the tower the administrators decided to host special events. And today is such a event. Eliot, a local adventurer of the island is hiring people to accompany him on the climbing endeavor of the tower and will explain the nature of today's special event.

With the opportunity to earn a lot of jewels and experience some of the harsher trials of the tower at the same time this proves to be an excellent opportunities from people near and far to take their chance at climbing the tower!

Quest Details

  • Meeting up with Eliot the participants will learn that the Administrators set up a Wheel of Fortune-style event at the Tower, granting people the opportunity to experience different areas of the tower that normally would require years of progress.

  • Upon arrival with Eliot at the tower the residential administrator Wysteria will greet the party and explain the rules of the tower: Everyone will be given a teleportation stone that they can use to safely escape from the dungeon, but should they discard or destroy the stone, the risk of death will be there. After everyone confirms their participation the Wheel of Fortune is rolled.

  • Depending on the dice roll the party is send to a different floor of the tower with each of them possessing a different theme to conquer.

  • Eliot will do his best to help the party, but should his life be in danger he will always be teleported away.

  • After clearing the tower's challenge the participants will realize that they are more exhausted than expected and have to return to the entrance.

  • Wysteria will explain that the reason behind the exhaustion is because the tower's magic is causing an intense density of mana on the dungeon floors to spread, leading to people to experience increased growth of their bodies' capacities, but in return they tire way faster.

  • Depending on the way one interacted with Eliot the reputation path will change.

  • Should the party roll a 100 they will have a special event where if more than one person is present they have to engage in a battle royal, should they be solo they have to fight Eliot till he surrenders or is unable to fight anymore.

Challenges of the Monarch:

Roll a dice in your quest to find out what challenge waits you during your climb of the Divine Tower.

  • 26-50: A trio of Sphynxes will attempt to block your path. Beat each of them in their riddles, for each riddle you fail to answer within 3 responses you will have to fight one of them.

  • 51-68: The Cerberus of Sevenese Mythology?! Ah wait it's a Mimic Slime, but it still is as deathly as the real deal! Fight and show the tower's administrator you are true champion material!.

  • 69: Your opponent is your genderbent self?! The Tower's Administrator reveals you have to beat your opponent in a challenge the opponent can decide on. Doesn't have to be a physical battle, but you still got to best them. After your victory the copy turn back into a mimic slime and hops off toward the next floor.

  • 70-99: You arrive in a massive labyrinth with an oversized slime playing a game of Pac-man. Use your clever thoughts and skills to remain out of the Slime's reach and escape from the labyrinth before they swallow you!

  • 100: Arriving at floor 100, the Tower Administrator presents the participants with a unique opportunity: Participate in a battle royal among your party (or fight Eliot if you're solo), in case the Head Administrator (Ryuko) is active and has time/is willing, an opportunity will present itself to pick a champion from your party to challenge her to a duel. Whether win or loss, the entire party gains Fight rewards on top of the quest reward.

Reputation Path (Optional)

  • Fame: After the challenge the user encounters Eliot being cornered by a local gang of troublemakers who demand his reward from the tower climbing. Helping apprehend the criminals will lead to a fame reward, and will upset the local crime lord.

  • Infamy: The user receives a infamy route if they helped the troublemakers steal Eliot's reward. While they gain a share of his rewards, the user's crimes will rapidly spread across the island earning them infamy instead from the local peacekeepers.
