She had watched as the conflict remained present within Talaz Lagaar, never seeming to change or move forward in one way or another. She had figured that there would have been some development, some potential growth, but in actuality it seemed that things simply remained stagnant, unmoving. Concerning for those who had some amount of engagement and investment towards the conflict, to which even Astrid had to recognize that her presence and involvement was steadily moving closer and closer out of the realm of indifference. For what she had done towards the conflict, she had found herself now involved in the matter, regardless of how much she may have wanted to simply pretend differently.

The fact was, the amount of time that she had been spending there, her motivations were wildly varied, but nonetheless they all played a role in being a conscious and active participant. The political ramifications of this conflict within the otherwise isolated region had now spread through throughout Fiore, with every government and ruling body having some vested interested in the conflict now. There was a reason to keep going as the outcome of this fight would end up having an impact not just on this region, but also on Fiore. And her involvement, one that was no longer one that she was able to claim ignorance towards, was all too risky to simply dismiss now. She were involved. She had to see that the civil war being waged in Talaz Lagaar went in the favor of the Loyalists that she had been supporting.

Despite her involvement, she could not find herself too particularly invested within the conflict. There was clear incentive for her to want to be involved and help their plight, but her involvement from the beginning had been tied not towards the conflict itself, but rather to spite her father whom she knew based on his behavior would have sided against her. She had no doubt at all about that, and as word spread of legislature and efforts that were being pushed to address the conflict, she found that her suspicions were validated. Her father, hoping to provide aid to the people of Talaz Lagaar by pushing incentives for Fiore-based companies and organizations to lend humanitarian aid in exchange for favorable economic relief. Of course, something like that were to have passed with her father pushing it; so often his backing of legislature was enough to swing enough support to make law, especially in the wake of the new king taking the throne.

It was enough reason for her to further her fighting as now her father’s involvement introduced an element that previously was not present; a chance to undermine her father’s aid package, a potential attempt to kill his support.

It was a difficult sell. Even more difficult to achieve. Based on what she was able to find out about the legislature, it was one that provided a surprisingly free amount of support without putting much risk at all towards the Fiore government as it did not demand any sacrifice or offerings on behalf of its people; instead simply giving them the option to contribute to the war effort. And that effort would be provided in return. Thus, a business could give up nothing and not be affected while others who gave up more would receive aid, but the opportunity was provided to everyone.

And that was the key point that Astrid would seek to exploit. Although it was nothing something that was required, that element would only be consistent for as long as the war seemed to be making meaningful progress in the proper direction. If the war seemed like it was struggling, if the loyalists managed to continually push and gain ground, it would incentivize more resources being acquired, more contributions being made. Eventually it would turn into a situation where the conflict had become a secondary thing compared to that of the public perception that was being cast amongst the people. If they viewed the effort in Talaz Lagaar – a foreign land – to be one that was impeding the growth and prosperity of their country, there was little chance that the public would still encourage and support the effort.

Thus, it would force one of two situations to occur. Either the government would weaken their support for the revolutionaries trying to stop the Loyalists within Talaz Lagaar, effectively turning their back on the people and eventually guaranteeing victory for the Loyalists. It was wishful thinking to some degree, but plausible certainly. The other alternative was that the government would double down on their efforts, that they would refuse to take any sort of defeat as an impossible scenario. Their offer of encouragement for businesses to contribute would change to that of a demand, potentially even going so far as to demand a military deployment. Never in her time having been around the government of Fiore had she known the deployment of the military to be popular. No reason to think that it would be any different now.

And so, the goal was clear. It wasn’t about prolonging the conflict, but making sure that for as long as it would end up being drawn out that progress was being made towards the efforts of the Loyalists. It was a slow process, especially given how the fighting had gone so far. Despite being outmatched both in terms of size and occupied land, the rebels were still putting up a significant fight; far more than what anyone would have suspected them capable at the time. But that was not going to last. They were already seeing that the attacks that were staged against their fortifications and defenses were becoming more sparse and less in intensity.

Their approach of defense was proving to be worthwhile and it also showing up in terms of the offensive front that the Loyalists were waging. Their conflicts were more and more often going in their favor while Astrid’s presence on the defensive front was looking to be something that was inspirational to the people there. She did not figure that there were things that the people genuinely cared for, but considering a woman of her stature, even just from the looks department, there was enough to cause the people to have a foolish levels of hope. Let them imagine, that was what she thought. She would never stoop to the level of giving any sort of affection to the soldiers and volunteers here, but she was more than willing to lead them along to keep them fighting.

She almost was there more as a moral support than anything else. With the conflict beginning to wane a bit, the concerns over the defensive front were lessening. Battles were less frequent and when they happened the losses were less significant. It was exactly what the people wanted and for Astrid, it gave her reason to think that the strategy that she felt would work best was already showing to have some level of success. It would take time. Significantly more time. But with how quickly the war had shifted from being a very balanced conflict that either side would have been able to secure power with at any given point, it was becoming more and more that the Loyalists were able to further hold their defensive fronts. The conflict was in their favor, the war inevitably going to end at some point soon. She hoped that that would be the case, but knowing what she knew of Fiore, she feared that desperation would end up causing the conflict to last even longer.

That fear was enough for her to remain engaged, not just being there to give the people fighting some imaginary lustful fantasy to pursue. She had to see that the people did not slack, something that was certainly at risk with the progress that was being made. People getting complacent, getting lazy even, but she would hope that that would not occur while she was there. If the conflict were to go in their favor, then that would be fine. Let the situation get away from them. At that point the damage was already done and in her fictitious war she would have already won. In time that would be the case, and she was seeing the fruits of their labor already coming forth. All that remained was for her to further help, whether on the defensive front, from her more aggressive approach, however it may have been or whatever it may had to be to secure the victory.
