Briar Caidh
Little journeys and travails coalesce into a single new, broader path, the longer you spend skipping across your starter lines. Briar had put in the work; he'd done nothing but expand and challenge himself since signing on officially with Blue Pegasus, and every step he'd taken to date had led him here. A real mission that held real stakes. People were counting on him: relying on him. The small, daily tasks he'd assisted people with so far, cultivating his image as a respectable 'home-town' hero for his fair Hargeon -- they meant the world and more to him. It was only right he stepped up on behalf of his guild for more worldly problems that he felt confident he could solve. At the very least, his part in this might clear the conflict with less blood shed.

He's reminded of the upcoming dungeons and the training that awaits him to tackle those - and he won't let himself be dissuaded from racing ahead. He tries so hard. He's not there yet, but he's proud of his efforts. All that matters to him then is continuing on, sticking to the road he knew he wanted to travel and the never-ending goal of being more of a person Fiore could depend on. He let his mind chug steam along the tracks of these thoughts as he stood at the base of a scouting ship, curling his toes into the ground and his fingers firmer around the heft of his staff. "Okay," he said under his breath, sucking in a breath only to flurry it from his nose in a nervous little titter.

"Okay! B-boy howdy!" He exclaims, shocking a few of the workers and allies that'd be joining him on the quest today with his attempt at raring himself up. Ladies and gentlebriars -- start your engines! The Soul Dew Mage of Blue Pegasus is putting on his finest show starting today! Come one, leave all!

He giggled, brushing his hair back into its fluffy mop, and bound forward to join the rest of the crew on the out-setting adventure. This was a natural escalation to the battle he had in the outskirts settlement a month or so back: pirates, again, but recently victorious in their raid and with a new set of hostages and devil-may-care ahead of its pursuers. It was up to the fair vigilants of Hargeon to cut them off and put a stop to the villainy. Briar could manage that much. No! He could manage more than that! He'd prove himself useful to the determination of those around him!

He had considered asking Vesper along, even, but it was important to showcase his independence just as well. If he wasn't doing this to take the pressure off of others with their own mountain of troubles and wants, why was he doing this at all? He could handle this for everybody. He could support them all.

The ship set off and Briar felt a wobble hit his legs after the first wake left, swallowing down the unsteady pitter-patter of the boy's modest heart. He'd only come out to sea on three occasions in his life: with his parents, sight-seeing in his younger years; with Jacob, ending in him flailing for his life against their catch of the day; and with Raina, to help feed and flourish the local marinery. There were much fewer people with him then than he had today, and never had he done so for the purpose of joining a conflict. He'd grip his old oak stick that much harder -- it's just like fishing, Bri.

It was a steady half hour before they made way with their plan, pulling just ahead of the pirate ship heading their way and looking over at an intimidating jolly roger as it grew larger and closer. The rest of the chase squad from the navy officials were further enough back that their crew couldn't see them on the horizon, leaving the action to the tens of them alone. It was an even split in numbers, with Briar at the center of 'his' forces and tied men and women near the back of the pirate's.

They bridged and boarded the ships, Briar closing his eyes for those first moments to empty his mind from all but his green spark of mana. It grew, shimmered, and shined bright -- from the seals he'd place between him and the enemy forces, showering both crews with the petals of flowers meant to cleanse or restrain. "I name us the Trumpet Creepers." Vines clung to those vagabonds unlucky enough to make it past the front line and encroach on Briar's sphere, with his attentions otherwise locked on to his particular duties. He kept the crew healthy, he kept them hearty, and he kept the criminals from advancing until the stalemate was broken and the egressing numbers dwindled to an easily parted stream.

This secured the hostages and the pirates bound, gathering them all on the Hargeon ship with a few allies left behind to help steer the pirate's own back to port. They set back off, victorious, exhausted: proud. Briar, his face turned up to the sun still shining bright above - unimpeded by the chaos of the day - the most of all. One day he might manage something like this truly himself. Until then, this friendship was his magic. It was held so preciously in his heart.
