IttindiLumikki listened carefully, hanging on every word so she was sure what ailed him. The last point feeling more relatable than her friend could know.
”Brone is often the one brave enough to help me train with spells. Yuurei wasn’t often around long enough to torment….but the thing was, I had certain gripes as a Daemon…a bitterness ya know? Being around “Heroes” likened to gods or simply legendary. It vexed me…So as Brone was helping me with me spells, there were times that I’d lose control. I casted them fine mind ye, it was the intensity in which I did that was troublesome. Like blacking in somewhat and relishing in the damage I’ve inflicted…ye know…until I snapped out of it. Look love, I know the detriment of having yer spells altered. I used to only know the frost.” To emphasize her point, Lumikki would clench her hand, which upon opening, would reveal a black shard of ice.
”For a long time…this was all I knew. Fixing the intricacies of using dark was beyond me. I spent a lot of time in the library trying to learn what made the element so particular. I even has to spend a lot of effort to somehow sort the dark connection flowing within me mana. Eventually I was able to isolate it enough to will the dark how I saw fit,” With her other hand, Lumikki tugged at a wayward shadow like it was just a piece of cloth.
With their exchange, the mood would dampen but Ittindi with his acute awareness and interesting tactics would divert this. Pulling off a performance that would take even Lumikki by surprise. It came at a good time, and she’d be grateful for it. So just as he finished the charming show, Lumikki awarded him the piece of cloth, only it was bigger and more intricate than it was before. The black “fabric” now showing a motif of snowflake like flowers.
”Here, I know ye like appealing things, but maybe this could be a nice reminder that even the dark could be nice. Use it as ye’d like.” MomoLumikki leaned back but kept low and close to Momo as he went through the motions. Her expression was one of excitement and joy, like a child tearing into a gift with delight. She played into her mischievous nature, egging on his desire to show off amazing things; but she was excruciatingly attentive to make sure the child came to no harm. Pain aside, she wouldn’t want someone so young to develop fears that’ll deter him on his path.
”Yes love, just a big boom~ One of many, I’m sure.” Momo’s first attempt went just about how she expected, but that wasn’t a bad thing. Even prodigies fail on their tries, and Lumikki was more focused on building his momentum and confidence.
What came next was the interesting thing, his eyes were ablaze. The child was tapping into a power that in theory was similar to her’s but the intricacies determined it was from another. Lumikki has known, the Seraphim and the Demons. No longer beings of ancient myth, not like they could ever be considering the nature of her life; but meeting a Fairy one day would pose and interesting experience, especially those painted by the dark if ever the chance.
Momo in his hyper fixation, and maybe the guiding hand of his patron, would focus with all his capacity. Charging the bullet much like she had with her small spell. Lumikki reframed from showing him another time, and for good reason, she didn’t want to insult his intelligence. A choice that proved to be right when he exceeded on the task phenomenally. And after the burst of his shot, when Momo was powering down, Lumikki would not only clap her hands in absolute delight and praise, but conjure a soft pile of black snow for him to lay.
”Ye did so well Momo, that was a bigger bang than I thought it’ll be. I’m sure ye’ll get even bigger.” Lumikki chuckled along to his excitement and lightly pushed him to the snow. Bunching some of it into her hand and holding it for him to grab.
”Me prize for yer spectacular shot is a comfy pile of snow for a nap and snowball fight.”MonaLumikki felt the weight with every word, even if the young lass did not want to disclose it. So was the nature of any Daemon, always locked in their internal struggles. Regardless of where they fell in alignment or desire, they no longer were their own master. It was a vexing ordeal, one that could overfill the spite within you. No matter how careful, the shiftiness of the changes in mood left more devastating than the actual Obscura did. Something Lumikki knew well.
Before Lumikki could chime in with words of advice or understand, the young girl tried to pull herself back into the facade. Whether for her own sake or theirs, Lumikki wasn’t sure, but by the end of the performance, the Demoness was done.
By the last word from Mona’s Lumikki poured her dark aura. It was as if day was fading into night, but only around them both. With a little light trickling from up above where Lumikki kept it sheer so as not to entirely blind the girl.
”Sweet child, should we start this again?” With soft, graceful, and deathly silent steps, Lumikki sauntered toward her fellow Spellhowler. The form of the Demoness peeling back to reveal more of what she was, so that her disguise for the moment was no more. Her skin like the night that veiled them, her hair as pale the fresh snow. Only one of her eyes a permanent fuchsia while the other a a deep violet. And two wings would adorn her head, though they stayed folded. Lumikki leaned forward, her harpy eyes locked onto Mona, but there was no malice only the natural intimidation of her gaze.
“This plight ye found yerself on, I sympathize. It’s the bitter fate of all Daemon’s until I finish me work that is. This pain, the agitation, the bundled chaos ye dress up as happiness. I know it all too well. This is the game of the Demon who claims ye….” Lumikki pulled back, her form unraveling, almost as of becoming one with the shadows that cradled them. Her plumage sprouting from various places of her being but only accentuating her form and four powerful wings unfurled from Lumikki’s back and curled around them both.
“I was like ye lass. But an Angel would be the only to tell me I could break me pact and become more. His words spoke of the beauty I be despite me possession to the dark. How like he, I could be given a new form.” Black frost like spider webs cracked and spread along the floor beneath them while frostblossoms sprouted and solidified by Lumikki’s feet. She did not want to scare the child but the Demoness needed to reach her.
“Prove ya have the fight within ye, and like a guiding bird, I’ll join ya along yer steps. Should ye really desire, we can tear this Demon that ensnares ye, should ya want it I could grant ye power. But there is not rush for any of these things as all that matters takes time. And ye’ve much to learn so I suggest we begin with furnishing those spells of hers the oomph ya crave.” The Demoness regressed to her hidden form, the dark on her skin falling away like black petals. The shadows that coiled around them, only growing more and more faded.
”Next class, I’ll arrange to have bandits caught and delivered so that ye have proper targets for yer spells. If ye need an excuse for self control, ye could use the one I’ve used for a time.” The dark had finally cleared and it was like they were brought back to reality. Like they were suspended in time but now they’ve returned. The shift in setting would normally be disorienting but Lumikki was unphased.
”It humans or the weak want to present themselves a monster to the helpless and innocent. Then we owe it to them to show those fools what a real monster is….and by doing so in a valiant regard, we alleviate the problematic nature of our tendencies. After all me dear child, those who cull the evil in this world are seen as heroes regardless of in truth they’re monsters. May that grant ye some peace as ya mull me words over…. And she’d walk back to Ittindi to resume their little chat. One that would last for the rest of her class.
