Zerutod Saito
Zerutod stood at the edge of the bustling marketplace, the vibrant sounds of Marigold swirling around him. The air was thick with the scent of spices and the chatter of merchants hawking their wares. He could hear the clinking of coins, the rustle of fabric, and the laughter of children playing nearby. Yet, beneath the surface of this cheerful facade, a darker current flowed, one that sent a chill down his spine.
“Did you hear about the Order of the Ashen Serpent?” a voice whispered, barely audible over the din. Zerutod’s keen electroreception picked up the vibrations of the conversation, drawing his attention. He turned slightly, tilting his head to catch the words.
“They say they’re targeting anyone with magic,” another voice replied, laced with fear. “They’ll do anything to get their hands on powerful artifacts.”
Zerutod’s heart raced. The Order of the Ashen Serpent was a name he had heard in hushed tones, a shadowy organization rumored to be ruthless in their pursuit of power. He had always dismissed it as mere gossip, but now, the implications were clear. Aeliana, his closest friend, possessed rare healing magic—magic that could make her a prime target.
“Zerutod!” Aeliana’s voice broke through his thoughts, warm and familiar. He turned to face her, a soft smile forming on his lips. She stood there, her auburn hair catching the sunlight, her green eyes sparkling with curiosity. “What are you thinking about?”
“Just… the market,” he replied, feigning nonchalance. “It’s lively today.”
Aeliana raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. "You’re not fooling me. You’ve been distant lately. Is something bothering you?”
Zerutod hesitated, the weight of the rumors pressing down on him. “I heard some troubling news. About the Order.”
Her expression shifted, concern etching lines on her forehead. “What did you hear?”
“They’re targeting individuals with magic. They want to control powerful artifacts and secrets.” He paused, gauging her reaction. “You should be careful, Aeliana.”
Aeliana’s lips pressed into a thin line. “I can take care of myself, Zerutod. You know that.”
“I know,” he said, his voice firm. “But this is different. They’re not just after artifacts; they’re willing to kill to get what they want.”
Aeliana’s gaze softened, and she stepped closer, her hand brushing against his arm. “You worry too much. We’ll be fine. We always are.”
Zerutod felt a pang of frustration. "You don’t understand. This isn’t just about us. It’s about your safety. I can’t lose you.”
“Zerutod…” she began, but he cut her off.
“I need to find out more about the Order. I can’t just sit back and hope for the best.” His determination surged, fueled by the thought of Aeliana in danger. “I’ll go to the taverns tonight. I’ll talk to some of the locals, see what I can learn.”
Aeliana frowned, her brow furrowing. “You’re not thinking of putting yourself in danger, are you? Those places can be… rough.”
“I can handle myself,” he insisted, his voice steady. “I’ve trained for this. I won’t let them get to you.”
“Promise me you’ll be careful,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
“I promise,” he replied, though a part of him knew the danger was real and growing. As they walked through the market, Zerutod’s mind raced with thoughts of the Order and the lengths they would go to achieve their goals. He could feel the shadows closing in, and he was determined to protect Aeliana at any cost.

As night fell, Zerutod made his way to the tavern, the dimly lit establishment nestled between two crumbling buildings. The air was thick with smoke and the scent of cheap ale. He stepped inside, his senses heightened, the vibrations of laughter and conversation swirling around him.
“Hey, blind man!” a rough voice called from the corner. “What are you doing here? Lost your way?”
Zerutod turned toward the sound, a smirk playing on his lips. “I’m just here for a drink, if you don’t mind.”
The man laughed, a harsh, grating sound. “You think you can handle it? You can’t even see what’s in front of you!”
“Maybe I can’t see,” Zerutod replied, his tone light, “but I can certainly hear you. And I can tell you’re not worth my time.”
The man’s laughter faltered, replaced by a scowl. “You think you’re clever, don’t you?”
“Clever enough to know when to walk away from a fool,” Zerutod shot back, turning his attention to the bar. He approached the bartender, a burly man with a thick beard. “I’m looking for information about the Order of the Ashen Serpent.”
The bartender’s expression darkened. “You’re treading dangerous waters, friend. Best leave that name out of your mouth.”
Zerutod leaned closer, lowering his voice. “I’m not afraid of danger. I need to know what they’re planning.”
The bartender hesitated, glancing around the room. “Fine. But you didn’t hear it from me. They’re ruthless. They’ve been making moves in the shadows, targeting anyone with magic. You’d do well to keep your head down.”
Zerutod nodded, his resolve hardening. “What else?”
“Rumor has it they’re looking for a healer,” the bartender continued, his voice barely above a whisper. “Someone with rare abilities.”
Zerutod’s heart sank. “Aeliana…”
“Yeah, you’d best protect her,” the bartender warned. “They won’t hesitate to eliminate anyone who stands in their way.”
“Thanks for the warning,” Zerutod said, his mind racing. He turned to leave, but the bartender called after him.
“Be careful, blind man. The Order doesn’t play games.”
As Zerutod stepped back into the night, the weight of the bartender’s words settled heavily on his shoulders. He had to act quickly. Aeliana’s safety depended on it. The shadows of the Order loomed larger, and he was determined to uncover their plans before it was too late.
With a deep breath, he set off into the darkness, the flickering lanterns casting long shadows on the cobblestone streets. The night was just beginning, and so was his fight against the encroaching darkness.

The tavern’s door creaked as Zerutod stepped back into the bustling streets of Marigold, the cool night air wrapping around him like a shroud. The laughter and chatter of the marketplace had faded, replaced by the distant sounds of revelry and the occasional shout from a nearby alley. He could feel the pulse of the city beneath his feet, a rhythm that matched the urgency in his heart.
He needed to gather more information about the Order of the Ashen Serpent, and the taverns were his best bet. The underbelly of Marigold was rife with whispers, and he intended to sift through the noise to find the truth.
As he navigated the cobblestone streets, Zerutod’s mind raced with thoughts of Aeliana. He could still see the concern etched on her face when he mentioned the Order. She had always been the light in his life, and the thought of her in danger fueled his determination.
“Zerutod!” a voice called out, breaking his concentration. He turned to find a familiar figure leaning against a wall, a sly grin on his face. It was Jarek, a local thief with a penchant for trouble. “What brings you to this side of town? Looking for trouble, or just lost?”
“Neither,” Zerutod replied, a hint of amusement in his tone.  “I’m looking for information. I hear you have your ear to the ground.”
Jarek chuckled, pushing himself off the wall. “You know me too well. What’s the scoop? You’re not here to buy me a drink, are you?”
“Not tonight,” Zerutod said, his voice steady. “I need to know about the Order of the Ashen Serpent. I’ve heard they’re making moves in the city.”
Jarek’s expression shifted, the playful glint in his eyes replaced by a more serious demeanor. “The Order? You’re treading on dangerous ground, my friend. They don’t take kindly to nosy types.”
“I’m aware,” Zerutod replied, his tone firm. “But I can’t sit idly by while they threaten Aeliana. I need to know what they’re planning.”
“Alright, alright,” Jarek said, raising his hands in mock surrender. “I’ll see what I can dig up. But you owe me a favor for this.”
“Deal,” Zerutod agreed, his mind already racing with possibilities. “What do you know?”
“Word on the street is they’re looking for something specific,” Jarek said, glancing around as if to ensure no one was eavesdropping. “A powerful artifact. Something that could amplify magic. They think it’s hidden somewhere in the city.”
Zerutod’s heart raced. “What kind of artifact?”
“Not sure,” Jarek admitted, shrugging. “But if they find it, they’ll have the power to control anyone with magic. Including your precious healer.”
“Do you know where they’re searching?” Zerutod pressed, urgency creeping into his voice.
“Not exactly,” Jarek replied, scratching his chin. “But I heard they’ve been asking around the old ruins outside the city. Might be worth checking out.”
“Thanks, Jarek,” Zerutod said, determination flooding his veins. “I’ll look into it.”
“Just be careful, alright?” Jarek warned, his tone serious. “The Order doesn’t play nice. If they catch wind of you snooping around, it won’t end well.”
“I can handle myself,” Zerutod replied, a hint of steel in his voice. “I’ve trained for this.”
“Yeah, but you’re still blind,” Jarek shot back, a smirk creeping onto his face. “Don’t let that get you killed.”
Zerutod chuckled, shaking his head. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
As he turned to leave, Jarek called after him. “Hey, Zerutod! If you find anything interesting, you know where to find me.”
“Of course,” Zerutod replied, already moving away. The night was still young, and he had a lead to follow.
---
The old ruins loomed on the outskirts of Marigold, their crumbling stones bathed in the silvery light of the moon. Zerutod approached cautiously, his senses heightened. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and moss, and the silence was almost oppressive. He could feel the weight of history pressing down on him, the remnants of a time long past.
As he stepped into the ruins, the echoes of his footsteps reverberated off the walls. He paused, listening intently. The faint rustle of leaves and the distant hoot of an owl were the only sounds that accompanied him.
“Hello?” he called out, his voice steady. “Is anyone here?”
Silence answered him, but he could sense a presence nearby. His electroreception tingled, picking up the faintest vibrations. He moved deeper into the ruins, his katana at the ready, the cool metal a comforting weight in his hand.
Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows, a hooded figure with a menacing aura. “What are you doing here, blind man?” the figure hissed, their voice low and dangerous.
Zerutod narrowed his eyes, focusing on the vibrations emanating from the figure. “I could ask you the same question. Are you with the Order?”
The figure laughed, a chilling sound that sent shivers down Zerutod’s spine. “You’re smarter than you look. But you’re still in over your head.”
“I’m not afraid of you,” Zerutod replied, his voice steady. “I’m here for information. I know the Order is searching for something.”
“Information comes at a price,” the figure said, stepping closer. “What are you willing to offer?”
Zerutod’s mind raced. “I can help you. I have skills that could be useful.”
The figure paused, considering his words. “Skills? What kind of skills?”
“I’m a Rune Knight,” Zerutod said, his voice firm. “I can fight. I can protect what’s important.”
The figure’s laughter echoed through the ruins. “A blind Rune Knight? How amusing. But I suppose you have your uses. The Order is indeed searching for something powerful. Something that could change the balance of magic in this world.”
“What is it?” Zerutod pressed, his heart pounding.
“An ancient artifact,” the figure replied, their tone shifting to one of seriousness. “It’s said to amplify magic beyond comprehension. The Order believes it’s hidden within these ruins.”
Zerutod’s mind raced. “Where exactly?”
“Ah, that’s the catch,” the figure said, a sly smile creeping onto their lips. “I don’t know. But I do know they’ve sent their best to find it. If you’re smart, you’ll leave now before they arrive.”
“I can’t do that,” Zerutod said, determination flooding his voice. “I need to protect Aeliana. If the Order finds this artifact, they’ll come for her.”
The figure’s expression darkened. “You’re a fool to think you can stand against them. They’re ruthless, and they won’t hesitate to eliminate anyone who gets in their way.”
“I’m not afraid of them,” Zerutod replied, his voice steady. “I’ll do whatever it takes to keep Aeliana safe.”
“Very well,” the figure said, their tone shifting to one of intrigue. “If you’re so determined, perhaps we can help each other. I have my own reasons for wanting to stop the Order.”
Zerutod raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. “What do you want?”
“Revenge,” the figure replied, their voice low and filled with venom. “The Order took something from me, and I intend to make them pay.”
“Then we’re on the same side,” Zerutod said, a sense of camaraderie forming between them. “What’s your name?”
“Call me Nyx,” the figure replied, pulling back their hood to reveal a sharp-featured face framed by dark hair. “And you’re Zerutod, the blind Rune Knight. I’ve heard whispers about you.”
“Whispers?” Zerutod asked, intrigued.
“Word travels fast in the underbelly of Marigold,” Nyx said, a smirk playing on their lips. “You’ve made quite the impression.”
“Let’s focus on the Order,” Zerutod said, shaking off the compliment. “What’s our next move?”
Nyx’s expression turned serious. “We need to find out where they’re searching. If we can get ahead of them, we might be able to locate the artifact before they do.”
“Agreed,” Zerutod replied, determination surging within him. “But how do we find them?”
“I have contacts,” Nyx said, their voice low. “We can gather information from the shadows. But you need to be careful. The Order has eyes everywhere.”
“I can handle myself,” Zerutod insisted, a hint of defiance in his tone.
“Let’s hope so,” Nyx replied, their expression unreadable. “We’ll meet back here tomorrow night. I’ll have more information by then.”
“Alright,” Zerutod said, nodding. “But I need to warn Aeliana. She can’t be left unprotected.”
“Do what you must,” Nyx said, stepping back into the shadows. “But remember, the Order is always watching.”
As Nyx disappeared into the darkness, Zerutod felt a mix of excitement and trepidation. He had allies now, but the stakes were higher than ever. The Order of the Ashen Serpent was a formidable foe, and he needed to be prepared for whatever lay ahead.
---
The next day, Zerutod found himself pacing in his small apartment, the weight of the world pressing down on him. He could hear the distant sounds of the marketplace, the laughter of children, and the chatter of merchants. But all he could think about was Aeliana’s safety.
He had to warn her.
As he made his way through the bustling streets, he felt a sense of urgency building within him. He couldn’t shake the feeling that time was running out. The Order was out there, and they wouldn’t hesitate to strike.
When he finally reached Aeliana’s home, he knocked on the door, his heart racing. “Aeliana! It’s me, Zerutod!”
The door creaked open, revealing Aeliana’s concerned face. “Zerutod! What’s wrong?”
“I need to talk to you,” he said, stepping inside. ““It’s important.”
Aeliana’s brow furrowed as she closed the door behind him. “You look worried. What happened?”
“The Order of the Ashen Serpent is searching for something powerful,” he explained, his voice steady. “They’re targeting individuals with magic, and I’m afraid they’ll come for you.”
Aeliana’s eyes widened, fear creeping into her expression. “What do you mean? Why would they want me?”
“Your healing magic makes you a target,” Zerutod replied, urgency lacing his words. “I can’t let them get to you. I need you to stay close to me.”
“I can take care of myself, Zerutod,” she insisted, her voice firm. “You know that.”
“I know,” he said, frustration bubbling beneath the surface. “But this is different. I can’t lose you. Not to them.”
Aeliana stepped closer, her hand resting on his arm. “You’re scaring me. What do we do?”
“I’m going to gather more information,” he said, determination flooding his voice. “I have a contact who can help. But I need you to promise me you’ll be careful.”
“I promise,” she said, her voice softening. “But you need to be careful too. I don’t want to lose you either.”
Zerutod felt a pang of guilt. “I won’t let anything happen to you, Aeliana. I swear it.”
“Just come back to me,” she said, her eyes searching his. “Promise me.”
“I promise,” he replied, his heart heavy with the weight of his words. “I’ll be back soon.”
As he stepped out into the bustling streets once more, Zerutod felt a renewed sense of purpose. He had to protect Aeliana, no matter the cost. The shadows of the Order loomed larger, but he was ready to face them head-on.
With each step, he felt the weight of the world on his shoulders, but he also felt the fire of determination burning within him. He would do whatever it took to keep Aeliana safe, even if it meant confronting the darkness that threatened to consume them both.
The night was still young, and the hunt for the truth had only just begun.

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the cobblestone streets of Marigold. Zerutod stood at the edge of the marketplace, his heart pounding in his chest. He had spent the day gathering information, but the weight of the knowledge he had acquired pressed heavily on him. The Order of the Ashen Serpent was not just a rumor; they were a real and present danger, and Aeliana was in their sights.
Zerutod!” A familiar voice called out, breaking through his thoughts. He turned to see Jarek approaching, his expression serious. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost. What’s going on?
Jarek,” Zerutod said, his voice low. “I need to talk to you. It’s urgent.
Alright, let’s find somewhere private,” Jarek replied, glancing around to ensure no one was eavesdropping. He led Zerutod down a narrow alley, the sounds of the marketplace fading into the background. “What’s the deal?
Zerutod took a deep breath, steadying himself. “I’ve learned that the Order is actively searching for Aeliana. They believe she possesses a rare healing magic that could be invaluable to them.
Jarek’s eyes widened. “That’s bad news, my friend. They won’t hesitate to eliminate anyone who stands in their way.
I know,” Zerutod replied, frustration bubbling beneath the surface. “I can’t let that happen. I need to protect her.
Have you told her?” Jarek asked, concern etched on his face.
I warned her to be careful, but I don’t think she fully understands the danger,” Zerutod admitted, running a hand through his messy silver hair. “I need to find a way to keep her safe.
Maybe we can set a trap,” Jarek suggested, his eyes glinting with mischief. “Lure them out and take them down before they can get to her.”
Zerutod shook his head. “That’s too risky. If we draw attention to ourselves, they might retaliate against Aeliana. We need to be smart about this.
Then what’s the plan?” Jarek pressed, crossing his arms. “You can’t just sit back and hope for the best.
I’m going to confront them,” Zerutod said, his voice steady. “I’ll find out what they want and how far they’re willing to go. But I need your help.
Count me in,” Jarek replied, a determined look on his face. “What do you need me to do?
I need you to gather information about their movements,” Zerutod instructed. “Find out where they’re hiding and who their key players are. We need to know what we’re up against.
Consider it done,” Jarek said, a grin spreading across his face. “I’ll dig around and see what I can find. But you need to be careful, Zerutod. The Order is dangerous.
I will,” Zerutod promised, his resolve hardening. “But I can’t do this alone. I need you by my side.
Always,” Jarek replied, clapping Zerutod on the shoulder. “Just don’t get yourself killed, alright?
Zerutod chuckled, the tension easing slightly. “I’ll do my best.
As they parted ways, Zerutod felt a renewed sense of purpose. He had allies, and together, they would uncover the truth about the Order. But as he made his way back to Aeliana’s home, a sense of dread settled in the pit of his stomach. Time was running out, and he needed to act quickly.
---
When Zerutod arrived at Aeliana’s home, he found her sitting on the porch, her expression thoughtful. She looked up as he approached, a smile breaking across her face. “Zerutod! You’re back!
Hey,” he said, forcing a smile despite the weight of the day’s events. “I wanted to check on you.
I’m fine,” she replied, her eyes sparkling with warmth. “I’ve been working on some new healing techniques. Want to see?
Maybe later,” he said, his voice serious. “I need to talk to you about something important.
Aeliana’s smile faded, concern replacing it. “What is it?
The Order of the Ashen Serpent is after you,” he said, his voice steady but urgent. “They believe you have rare healing magic that they want to control.
Aeliana’s eyes widened in shock. “What? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?
I didn’t want to scare you,” Zerutod admitted, guilt gnawing at him. “But I can’t keep this from you. You need to understand the danger you’re in.
I can take care of myself, Zerutod,” she insisted, her voice firm. “You know that.
I know,” he replied, frustration creeping into his tone. “But this is different. They’re ruthless, and they won’t hesitate to eliminate anyone who stands in their way.
Aeliana stepped closer, her hand resting on his arm. “What do we do?
I’m going to confront them,” Zerutod said, determination flooding his voice. “I’ll find out what they want and how far they’re willing to go. But I need you to promise me you’ll stay safe.
I won’t let you face them alone,” Aeliana said, her voice resolute. “I’m not afraid.
Please, Aeliana,” Zerutod pleaded, his heart aching. “You don’t understand what they’re capable of. I can’t lose you.
Aeliana’s expression softened, and she nodded slowly. “Alright. I’ll stay close to home. But you have to promise me you’ll be careful.
I promise,” he said, relief washing over him. “I’ll be back soon.
As he turned to leave, Aeliana called after him. “Zerutod! Be safe. I believe in you.”
He smiled, though the weight of her words lingered in his mind. “I’ll be back before you know it.
---
The night was dark as Zerutod made his way to the ruins once more, his heart pounding in his chest. He had a plan, but the uncertainty of what lay ahead gnawed at him. He had to confront the Order, to find out what they wanted and how far they were willing to go.
As he approached the ruins, he could feel the tension in the air. The shadows seemed to stretch and twist, and he could sense the presence of others lurking nearby. He tightened his grip on his katana, ready for whatever awaited him.
Zerutod,” a voice called from the darkness, and he turned to see Nyx emerging from the shadows. “You’re early.
I couldn’t wait,” Zerutod replied, his voice steady. “I need to know what the Order is planning.
Nyx’s expression was serious. “They’re gathering forces. They believe they’re close to finding the artifact, and they won’t stop until they have it.
What do they want with it?” Zerutod asked, his heart racing.
They believe it can amplify magic beyond comprehension,” Nyx explained, their voice low. “If they get their hands on it, they’ll have the power to control anyone with magic, including your friend.
Zerutod’s stomach twisted at the thought. “We can’t let that happen. We need to find the artifact before they do.
Agreed,” Nyx said, their eyes narrowing. “But we need to be careful. The Order has eyes everywhere, and they won’t hesitate to eliminate anyone who stands in their way.
I’m ready for whatever comes,” Zerutod replied, determination flooding his voice. “I won’t let them take Aeliana.
Then we need to move quickly,” Nyx said, their voice firm. “We’ll find the artifact, and we’ll protect your friend. But we can’t afford any mistakes.
Zerutod nodded, his resolve hardening. He had made his choice, and he would see it through to the end, no matter the cost. As he and Nyx disappeared into the shadows, he knew that the path ahead would be treacherous, but he was ready to face whatever lay ahead.

The air was thick with tension as Zerutod and Nyx crouched in the alcove, the darkness wrapping around them like a cloak. The distant sounds of the Order’s footsteps echoed through the ruins, sending a chill down Zerutod’s spine. He could feel the vibrations of their movements, the weight of their presence pressing in on him.

“Do you think they know we’re here?” Nyx whispered, their voice barely audible.

“I don’t know,” Zerutod replied, his heart racing. “But we can’t stay hidden forever. We need to find a way to turn the tables.”

Nyx nodded, their expression serious. “We need to gather more information about their plans. If we can find out what they’re after, we might be able to stop them.”

Zerutod took a deep breath, steadying himself. “We need to get back to Aeliana. She’s still in danger, and I can’t let them get to her.”

“Agreed,” Nyx said, their eyes scanning the darkness. “But we need to be careful. The Order is ruthless, and they won’t hesitate to eliminate anyone who stands in their way.”

As they prepared to move, a sudden noise caught Zerutod’s attention. The sound of footsteps grew louder, and he could feel the vibrations of multiple figures approaching. His heart raced as he turned to Nyx. “We need to go. Now.”

They slipped out of the alcove, moving silently through the shadows. Zerutod’s senses were heightened, every sound amplified in the stillness. He could feel the tension in the air, the weight of the impending confrontation pressing down on him.

“Which way?” Nyx asked, their voice low.

“Follow me,” Zerutod replied, his instincts guiding him. He navigated through the ruins, his katana at the ready, the cool metal a comforting weight in his hand.

As they moved deeper into the darkness, Zerutod’s mind raced with thoughts of Aeliana. He couldn’t shake the feeling that time was running out. The Order was closing in, and he had to protect her at all costs.

Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows, blocking their path. Zerutod’s heart dropped as he recognized the menacing silhouette. It was an assassin from the Order, his eyes glinting with malice.

“Thought you could sneak away, did you?” the assassin taunted, his voice dripping with arrogance. “You’re in over your head, blind man.”

Zerutod’s grip tightened on his katana. “I won’t let you harm anyone.”

The assassin laughed, a chilling sound that echoed through the ruins. “You think you can stop me? You’re just a blind Rune Knight. You’re nothing.”

Zerutod gritted his teeth, focusing on the flow of time around him. He could feel the power of Raigaloth surging within him, urging him to unleash its full potential. But he hesitated, the weight of his morals pressing down on him.

“Zerutod, watch out!” Nyx shouted, breaking him from his thoughts.

The assassin lunged again, dark tendrils of magic swirling around his blade. Zerutod barely managed to dodge, the dark energy grazing his side. Pain shot through him, but he pushed it aside, focusing on the fight.

“Enough games!” Zerutod shouted, channeling his magic. He slowed time once more, the world around him warping as he gained the upper hand. With a swift motion, he struck, his katana finding its mark.

The assassin staggered back, surprise etched on his face. “What—”

Zerutod pressed the advantage, his movements fluid and precise. “You underestimated me,” he said, his voice steady. “And now you’ll pay the price.”

With a final, devastating blow, he struck the assassin down, the figure collapsing to the ground. Zerutod stood over him, breathing heavily, the adrenaline still coursing through his veins.

“Is he dead?” Nyx asked, their voice tense.

Zerutod shook his head, his heart racing. “No, just incapacitated. We need to move before more of them arrive.”

As they turned to leave, a low groan escaped the assassin’s lips. “You think this is over?” he spat, his voice filled with venom. “The Order will come for you. You can’t escape us.”

Zerutod’s heart sank at the threat. “We’ll be ready,” he replied, determination flooding his voice. “But you won’t be a problem anymore.”

They hurried through the ruins, the weight of the encounter pressing down on them. Zerutod’s mind raced with thoughts of Aeliana. He had to get back to her, to ensure her safety.

“Zerutod,” Nyx said, breaking the silence. “What if they’re already at her home?”

“I can’t think like that,” he replied, his voice steady. “I have to believe she’s safe.”

As they emerged from the ruins, the moon hung high in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the city. Zerutod’s heart raced as he sprinted toward Aeliana’s home, his senses heightened. He could feel the vibrations of the city beneath his feet, the pulse of life surrounding him.

When he finally reached her home, he found the door ajar, a sense of dread washing over him. “Aeliana!” he called, his voice echoing in the stillness.

“Zerutod!” Aeliana’s voice came from inside, filled with panic. “Help!”

Without hesitation, Zerutod rushed inside, his katana at the ready. The room was in disarray, furniture overturned and papers scattered across the floor. Aeliana stood in the center, her eyes wide with fear.

“What happened?” Zerutod demanded, his heart racing.

“They came for me,” Aeliana said, her voice trembling. “I heard them outside. I tried to hide, but they found me.”

“Are you hurt?” he asked, scanning her for injuries.

“No, I’m fine,” she replied, but the fear in her eyes was unmistakable.

The moon hung high in the sky, casting a silvery glow over the ruins as Zerutod and Aeliana made their way back to the tavern. The adrenaline from their encounter with the assassin still coursed through Zerutod's veins, but a sense of dread settled in the pit of his stomach. They had narrowly escaped, but the threat of the Order loomed larger than ever.
What if they come after us again? What if they find out where we are?
We’ll be ready for them,” he replied, trying to sound more confident than he felt. “Jarek is gathering information, and we’ll come up with a plan. We can’t let fear control us.”
Aeliana nodded, but her expression was still troubled. “I just wish we could find a way to end this. I don’t want to live in fear.
I know,” Zerutod said, his heart aching for her. “But we have to stay strong. We can’t let them win.
As they approached the tavern, Zerutod felt a sense of urgency building within him. He pushed the door open, the familiar sounds of laughter and chatter greeting them. But as he scanned the room, his heart sank. Jarek was nowhere to be seen.
Where’s Jarek?” Aeliana asked, her brow furrowing with concern.
I don’t know,” Zerutod replied, his voice tense. “He should be here by now.
They made their way to the bar, the bartender looking up as they approached. “You two look like you’ve seen a ghost,” he said, concern etched on his face. “What happened?
There was an assassin,” Zerutod said, his voice steady. “We need to find Jarek. Have you seen him?
The bartender shook his head. “Not since earlier. He was talking to some shady characters in the corner. I warned him to be careful.
Zerutod's heart raced. “We need to find him. He could be in danger.
Let’s check the back room,” Aeliana suggested, her voice filled with urgency. “He might have gone there.
They hurried through the tavern, pushing open the door to the back room. The dim light illuminated the space, but it was empty. Zerutod's heart sank as he scanned the room.
Jarek!” he called, his voice echoing in the silence. “Where are you?
Zerutod!” a voice called from the shadows, and Zerutod's heart leaped. It was Jarek, emerging from the darkness, his expression serious. “You made it.
Thank the gods,” Aeliana said, relief flooding her voice. “We were worried about you.
I found something,” Jarek said, his eyes glinting with excitement. “The Order is planning something big. They’re gathering forces, and they’re looking for the artifact.
What do you mean?” Zerutod asked, his heart racing. “Where are they hiding?
They’ve set up a base in the old warehouse by the docks,” Jarek explained, his voice urgent. “I overheard them talking about it. They believe the artifact is hidden there, and they’re planning to launch an attack to retrieve it.
Zerutod's mind raced. “We have to stop them. If they get that artifact, they’ll have the power to control anyone with magic.
Exactly,” Jarek said, his expression serious. “We need to come up with a plan.
Aeliana stepped forward, her voice steady. “I want to help. We can’t let them succeed.
Are you sure?” Zerutod asked, concern etched on his face. “This is dangerous.
I’m not afraid,” she replied, determination flooding her voice. “I want to fight alongside you.
Zerutod felt a mix of pride and worry. “Alright, but we need to be smart about this. We can’t let our emotions cloud our judgment.
Agreed,” Jarek said, nodding. “We need to gather more information about their plans. If we can find out what they’re after, we might be able to stop them.
Let’s split up,” Zerutod suggested. “Jarek, you can gather intel from the tavern. Aeliana and I will search for any clues about the artifact.”
Sounds like a plan,” Jarek replied, determination flooding his voice. “Just be careful out there.
As they prepared to leave, Aeliana turned to Zerutod, her expression serious. “Promise me you’ll be careful.
I promise,” he said, his heart heavy with the weight of his words. “I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe.
With that, they stepped out of the old mill, the cool night air hitting them like a wave. Zerutod could feel the vibrations of the city beneath his feet, the pulse of life surrounding him. But the weight of the situation pressed down on him, and he couldn’t shake the feeling that they were running out of time.
As they made their way back to the tavern, Zerutod's mind raced with thoughts of the Order. He could feel their presence lurking in the shadows, the weight of their threat pressing down on him.
What if we can’t stop them?” Aeliana asked, her voice filled with concern.
We will,” he replied, determination flooding his voice. “We have to believe that we can make a difference.
When they arrived at the tavern, Zerutod felt a mix of relief and apprehension wash over him.
