Targa
Targa stood alone in one of the grand halls of Amaforth Academy's College of Destruction looking dapper in her Monopoly Suit, the ambient glow of enchanted sconces casting dancing shadows across the arcane symbols etched into the stone walls that made them more durable to put up with the students magical mishaps. The academy was a masterpiece of ancient architecture and modern magic, a place where the brightest minds honed the most destructive of spells. Yet, amidst this nexus of controlled chaos, Targa felt an uncontrollable storm brewing within her. A not so forgotten feeling pulsed beneath her dark skin, flickering like a dying ember threatening to ignite into an inferno once again.

Perched on her shoulder was Monty, her ever loyal moogle companion. His tiny wings fluttered nervously, and his pom-pom bobbed with concern. "Kupo, you've been quiet all evening. What's on your mind?" Before she could respond, a sudden surge of energy coursed through her body. She gasped as sparks of invisible Crash Magic erupted from her fingertips, searing the air with crackling sounds. The uncontrolled burst scorched the stone floor, leaving behind a smoldering mark. Clutching her chest, Targa staggered back, memories of the agony before she became a vampire flooding her senses.

Monty hovered off her shoulder to face her, worry plastered across his face. "It's happening again, isn't it? The magic is becoming unstable... you told me about this in your past but I thought your sister fixed this turning you kupo!" She nodded in pain. "I can't control it anymore, Monty. The Crash Magic... it's tearing me apart from the inside. It feels worse then when I transformed for Ittindi for the first time" Monty fluttered closer, placing a tiny paw on her cheek to feel her temperature. "We need to find a Professor. They'll know what to do." Targa took a deep breath, steadying herself. "You're right. Let's find the most knowledgeable mentor in the College of Destruction that's here. If anyone can help, it's most likely the college lore master down in the library."

As they reached the lore masters private study, Targa hesitated. The door, made of old oak and engraved with protective runes, seemed more imposing than ever. She heard that the lore master used a form of letter magic. She knocked lightly. "Professor? It's Targa. May I come in?" A moment later, the door opened on its own, revealing a room cluttered with tomes, alchemical instruments, and shimmering crystals. The lore master sat behind a massive desk. "Targa, Monty, what brings you here at this hour?"

Targa stepped inside, Monty flying close behind. "Professor, something's wrong with my magic. The Crash Magic is becoming unstable again. I just had an uncontrolled surge in the hall." The lore master gestured for her to sit in a high backed chair made of wicker. It felt out of place in his chamber being the most ordinary of furniture... cheap even. "Tell me everything." She recounted the past incidents; the sudden bursts of energy, the pain reminiscent of her pre-vampire affliction. The lore master listened intently, occasionally nodding. Monty chimed in with observations of what he saw just moments before, obviously concerned for his companion. "It's coming back, kupo. I'm worried about her." When she finished, the professor leaned back thoughtfully. "I had hoped this day wouldn't come when you entered into the Academy, but it appears the inherent volatility of Crash Magic is taking its toll. Especially on someone with your unique... condition is concerning."

Targa's eyes narrowed. The pink set on the black were drilling holes into the teacher. "You knew this could happen? That the magic might become unstable again?" He sighed heavily. "Crash Magic is among the most destructive and unpredictable forms of arcane energy. For a vampire, whose body has already undergone unnatural transformation, wielding such power is exponentially riskier. Yes, it saved your life but all it did was build a damn. That magic is a river, a destructive river that has broken the damn and is now flowing again." She stood abruptly, flinging the chair backwards. "Then why allow me to train it here at all? Why let me continue down this path if it was doomed from the start?"

The lore master met her gaze unphased by the outburst. He understood but also knew she was no threat to him and how strong he was compared to the pup of a mage. "Because I hoped in your potential to master it, to perhaps even overcome its limitations on your body. But the signs are clear: continuing to use Crash Magic will lead to your demise. Some people are just born unlucky. You were born with magic, you didn't just study it. You weren't taught it. But it was born into a body that can't handle it. It's tragic but the truth." Monty flew between them, his tiny arms outstretched as if to diffuse the tension. "There must be another way, kupo! Isn't there an alternative source of magic she can use?" The professors expression softened as he looked at the moogle. "Perhaps." He stood and moved toward a concealed door behind a tapestry depicting a phoenix rising from ashes. "Follow me."

They descended a spiral staircase into the academy's lower chambers, a place where few students were permitted. The air grew cooler, and the walls transitioned from polished marble to raw stone imbued with faintly glowing sigils. They entered a cavernous room where the very atmosphere hummed with latent power. In the center stood a circular platform inscribed with complex runes that shifted and rearranged themselves like a living puzzle. Eldrin motioned for Targa to step onto it. "This arcane matrix will analyze your magical essence." Monty perched on a nearby pedestal, his eyes wide. "Be careful, Targa." She nodded, stepping into the center. The runes beneath her feet began to glow, and beams of light spiraled upward, enveloping her in a luminescent cocoon. Then, without warning, the energy around her twisted. The light turned a sickly shade of crimson, and the room shook. Yarga cried out as a jolt of pain shot through her. The Crash Magic within her reacted violently to the probing energies. Cracks formed in the platform, and sparks rained down like stars. The professor wiped sweat from his brow. "Your magic is not just unstable; it's corrupted. The Crash Magic is feeding off your vampiric essence, creating a volatile amalgam that's attracting dark elemental forces."

Before they could regroup, a distant alarm screeched that signified a breach in the academy's defenses. Turning to Targa and her moogle friend "The corrupted magic has drawn elementals into the academy. They're being pulled toward you. Wait here while I go dispatch them." He'd leave to meet up with other present upper rank students at the academy, and professors, to begin fending off the elementals.

Suddenly, the temperature in the room dropped. From the shadows emerged two elementals. They were humanoid in shape but composed entirely of swirling, translucent energy that shimmered with hues of violet and indigo. Their eyes were empty voids, and intricate patterns flickered across their forms like arcane circuitry. The first elemental extended an ethereal arm, fingers elongating into sharp tendrils. The second hovered slightly above the ground, its form pulsating as if struggling to maintain cohesion.

Targa's heart raced. "Monty, stay back!" She knew that using Crash Magic could worsen her condition, but with the lore master gone, and the elementals closing in, she had no choice. Clenching her fist, she decided to use her spells carefully. The first elemental lunged forward, its tendrils whipping through the air. Targa reacted swiftly. She clenched her fist and opened it, causing an invisible magical circle of a quarter-meter diameter to appear before her palm. Crash Magic: Arcane Gleam! An invisible beam of arcane energy shot out, striking the elemental squarely. The force dealt significant damage, knocking it back ten meters. The elemental's form flickered, disrupted by the impact.

The second elemental descended rapidly, aiming to envelop her. Targa quickly opened her palm, and an invisible magic circle appeared. Crash Magic: Arcane Shockwave! An invisible shockwave blasted outward in a two-meter diameter, catching the elemental in its radius. The force dealt another heavy blow, sending it hurtling back. However, she felt a sharp pain in her chest as the corrupted magic surged within her. Monty noticed her wince. "Be careful, Targa! The more you use the magic, the more it hurts you!"

The first elemental recovered and began to charge a concentrated ball of energy between its hands. Realizing the imminent threat, Targa decided to take a defensive yet offensive approach. She opened her palm once more, summoning an invisible magical circle. An invisible arcane ball entered her body, coating her in a hazardous aura. Crash Magic: Overlay! As the elemental fired its energy ball, Targa dashed forward. The aura around her was invisible and a weapon simultaneously. Upon impact, the elemental's attack was painful, nearly causing her to lose focus on maintaining her spell, and as she closed the distance, the aura discharged upon contact, dealing significant damage and knocking the elemental back ten meters into the wall. The coating dissipated after the attack.

The second elemental reformed and attempted another assault from above. Monty, seeing an opportunity to help, began chanting. "By the light of the moogles, bind this foe, kupo!" Nothing of course happened as he didn't have magic and was just trying to distract it. A gambit that luckily paid off as it's attention was now on the moogle. "It's all yours, Targa!" Seizing the moment, she pointed upward, creating an invisible magic circle in the sky within ten meters. Crash Magic: Arcane Bomb! An invisible arcane ball, a quarter-meter in diameter, descended rapidly from the circle. It struck the elemental, causing a blast with a two-meter diameter upon impact. The explosion dealt a final blow, and the elemental dissipated into wisps of fading energy.

The first elemental, weakened but not defeated, made one last desperate charge. Targa felt another surge of pain but pushed through it. Deciding to end the confrontation, she held out both palms, creating two invisible shockwaves, each with a one-meter diameter. Crash Magic: Arcane Shockwave! The dual shockwaves converged on the elemental, the combined force overwhelming it. It let out a distorted shriek as it was knocked back and disintegrated into nothingness.

Breathing heavily, Targa dropped to one knee. The overuse of Crash Magic had taken a severe toll on her body. Blood sweat dripped from her brow, and her vision blurred. Monty rushed to her side, his eyes filled with concern. "Targa! Are you alright?" She nodded weakly. "I... I had no choice. They would have overwhelmed us." He placed a tiny paw on her shoulder. "We need to get you somewhere safe. The magic... it's hurting you more each time you use it." She tried to stand but stumbled, the room spinning around her. "You're right. I can feel it consuming me." Monty fluttered around anxiously. "Maybe we should find the professor? He might know what to do." She shook her head slowly. "He said to wait here, but I don't think I can last much longer."

Time seemed to stretch as they waited in the dimly lit chamber. Each passing moment felt like an eternity and her fear that more elementals would attack only elevated her anxiety. It was also evident that her condition was worsening as waves of pain coursed through her as the corrupted Crash Magic spiraled out of control. After what felt like hours, the heavy door creaked open, and the lore master hurried back into the room, his robes disheveled and eyes wide with alarm. "Targa! Monty! Are you both alright?" Monty flew up to him urgently. "She's not well, kupo! She had to use her magic to fight off two elementals. Now it's consuming her!"

His gaze fell upon Targa, who was now pale and trembling... so much so she was almost white. "Oh no, the corruption is advancing faster than I feared." He knelt beside her, placing a hand on her forehead. "We must act quickly." She looked up at him weakly. "Can you stop it?" He nodded solemnly. "I can seal your magic, preventing it from consuming you, but it will also stop you from using it. I'm not sure you'll be able to learn magic normally again. It could be the end of your career as a mage, but you'd live." "Do it! I can't control it anymore." He stood and began tracing intricate symbols in the air, his fingers leaving trails of golden light. His letter magic was now in full swing and was now going to be displayed. A magic that had earned him the title lore master. Symbols, letters, script of light formed a circle around Targa, slowly revolving and descending upon her. She felt a gentle warmth enveloping her, contrasting sharply with the searing pain inside.

As the spell progressed, the corrupted energy within her began to subside. The chaotic surges diminished, replaced by a calm emptiness. The glowing symbols absorbed into her skin, leaving behind faint markings that shimmered briefly before fading. The lore master exhaled heavily, lowering his hands. "It is done. The seal will prevent the Crash Magic from harming you, but you won't be able to access it. You still have mana, but you won't be able to use magic normally anymore." Targa took a deep breath, the pain finally gone. "Thank you," she said softly. Blood seeped from her mouth, the internal damage from before was subsiding but it hadn't negated all the damage she had taken.

Monty landed on her shoulder, relief evident in his eyes. "How do you feel?" "Better... But... empty." The professor offered a sympathetic smile. "I understand this is difficult, but it's necessary to protect you." She looked at him. Despite everything that had happened, she still wanted to be a mage. She wanted to stay in Fairy Tail. She wanted to go on quests with her guildmates and her mentor. "Then we need to find another way. If I can't use Crash Magic, I'll need a new source... one that won't destroy me." He nodded. "There may be an alternative. Holder magic. Holder Magic is magic that requires a mage to use an external source to produce the magic. It usually requires the use of your magic power... your mana. Gun magic for example, but I don't think that would fit you very well now would it. Plus it would take you years to learn the magic, even it's basic spells I wager. Unless... yes there is another option. I happen to have a scroll. A magic tome acquired from a dungeon exploration. If you can connect with it, you might find a new path. Most people are taught magic over time. Your crash magic you were born with, but there is another option. Being imbued with a new magic via divine bestowment or a powerful relic. If you think you can handle the trials it must take to unlock it's secrets, I'll bring it here at once. No... you should rest first and we will start in the morning. The elementals will no longer be a threat I think. With your crash magic sealed there is nothing to draw them here anymore."

Targa weary would abide by his directions and go with Monty to her student chambers and rest for the rest of the night.

Targa
The first light of dawn filtered through the narrow windows of Targa's student chamber at Amaforth Academy. The room was modest, with a single bed, a wooden desk cluttered with books, and a wardrobe housing her extensive wardrobe and limited belongings. Monty perched on the windowsill, his tiny form silhouetted against the morning glow. "Kupo, did you sleep well?" Targa sat up slowly, the events of the previous night weighing heavily on her. "As well as can be expected," she replied. The absence of the constant feeling of Crash Magic within her was both a relief and a void she couldn't ignore. She flexed her fingers, half expecting the familiar spark of energy, but there was nothing... nothing at all. She didn't feel empty per say, but did feel lacking.

A soft knock interrupted her inner thoughts. Before she could respond, the door creaked open to reveal the lore master. His eyes met hers with a mixture of seriousness and encouragement. "Good morning, Targa, Monty," he greeted. "I trust you're feeling better?" She nodded and noted that he didn't' wait for an answer. What if she had been changing, but he had saved her life so she wouldn't press the issue. Plus she was hot and maybe the old man needed a peek every now and again. "Physically, yes. But I can't shake this emptiness inside."

He stepped into the room, holding a scroll bound with intricate runes. "That's understandable. You've lost a part of yourself. But perhaps it's time to fill that void with something new." Her gaze fell upon the scroll. "Is that...?" He offered it to her. "This is the tome I mentioned, a relic from a bygone era. It contains the secrets of the Thousand Staffs of Abundance magic and other magics as well should another call to you more. I used my letter magic to divine that the staff magic would best work for you however. That said, divination isn't my strongest suit... all it gave me is that it was fitting for you. Whatever that means."

Monty fluttered over to get a closer look. "It seems powerful, kupo!" Targa accepted the scroll cautiously. "But why give this to me?" The lore master smiled gently. "Because I believe you have the potential to unlock a magic from within it. I'm also not giving it to you. This belongs to the college. You're just borrowing it while on academy grounds with my permission. This magic is unique, the one I suggested, it requires the user to channel spells through staffs, and it demands discipline and responsibility. Given your experiences, I think you might find a new path here. Staffs are quite versatile and can encases a whole slue of elemental uses."

She unrolled the scroll, her eyes scanning the ancient script. The words seemed to shimmer, shifting between languages, until they settled into one she could understand. As she read, a strange resonance stirred within her. "Thousand Staffs of Abundance..." she murmured. "It feels... strangely right." "That's the magic calling to you," the lore master explained. "But to wield it, you must pass the trials set by the tome's guardian spirits. They will test your resolve and your ability to handle such flexible power responsibly." "I'm ready." He nodded approvingly. "Very well. The trials will take place within the confines of the tome itself. It's a journey of the mind and spirit." Monty landed on her shoulder. "I'll be right here with you, kupo!" She smiled at her companion. "Thank you, Monty." The lore master gestured toward the desk. "Sit and focus your energy on the scroll. It will guide you into the trial realm." Targa took a seat, placing the scroll before her. She closed her eyes, steadying her breathing. As she concentrated, she felt the world around her fade away.

Targa
Breaking the Chains of Destruction (Part I, II, III) 5375e53b62e56022e209aef9b69569ea

When she opened her eyes, Targa found herself standing in a vast and strange ethereal landscape. The floor below her was a solid mess of shifting symbols, like she was standing on the words of the scroll, and the sky above was a blanket of swirling colors... like she was in a water panting and book both at once. "Where are we?" Monty's voice echoed, though his form was not visible. "In the realm of the trials, I think," Targa replied, her voice steady despite the surreal surroundings. She was happy and comforted by the fact Monty was still with her in this weird place.

A figure materialized before her; a guardian spirit composed of light and shadow. Its form was humanoid, but it had no face. "Targa," it intoned, its voice resonating within her mind. "You seek the power of the Thousand Staffs of Abundance. We have other magics if your not set." She met its gaze unflinchingly, or what she thought might be a gaze with this faceless head. "I do." "Very well. There are three trials you must overcome: Understanding, Mastery, and Responsibility. Only then will the magic be yours. The knowledge to wield the magic will be ingrained into you and you'll be able to access it right away, if you pass. " She nodded. "I'm ready to face them."

The First Trial: Understanding

The landscape shifted, and Targa found herself in a grand library. Towering shelves stretched infinitely in all directions, each filled with scrolls and tomes. The guardian spirit appeared beside her. "To wield this magic, you must first understand its essence. Find the tome that speaks to you." She look around and was almost entirely overwhelmed by the sheer number of books surrounding her. Pushing past the anxiety of it all she began to walk down the aisles, her fingers tracing against the spines of books as she walked past them. Each one she touched whispered fragments of different magics; Elemental Manipulation, Celestial Summoning, Shadow Weaving, God Slaying, etc, but none resonated with her.

As she ventured deeper, she noticed a faint glow emanating from a secluded corner. There, on a pedestal, rested a simple staff made of polished wood and a blue gem up top, alongside a slender tome bound in silver. Drawn to it, she approached and opened the tome. The pages were blank at first, but as she focused, words began to appear: "Thousand Staffs of Abundance harnesses the power of multiple staffs, each channeling different elements. It is not just about wielding power, but about harmonizing with it." A warmth spread through her. This magic required not just strength, but balance... a concept she was beginning to value deeply. The guardian spirit reappeared. "You have found the path that calls to you. Do you understand what it asks of you?" "Yes," she replied. "It requires me to channel magic through staffs, to rely on external focus rather than internal force. It's a partnership between mage and instrument." "Correct. You have passed the first trial."

The Second Trial: Mastery

The library dissolved, replaced by a quant mountainside. Before her stood three staffs, each embedded in stone. One glowed with fiery embers, another shimmered with watery reflections, and the third crackled with electricity. "Choose a staff and demonstrate your ability to master its element," the guardian instructed. Targa approached the staffs. She reached for the fiery one but hesitated. Instead, she grasped the staff of electricity. As her fingers closed around it, a surge of energy coursed through her. Focus...focus she told herself. Let the staff guide you. Closing her eyes, she felt the elemental energy intertwining with her own. She raised the staff, and lightning arced from its tip, striking a series of targets that appeared on the mountainside. "Impressive," the guardian noted. "But mastery requires adaptability."

Suddenly, the staff transformed in her hands, becoming the watery staff. The terrain shifted; now she stood before a raging river that blocked her path. Understanding the challenge, Targa plunged the staff into the ground. Summoning her will, she directed the water to part, creating a safe passage. The river obeyed, and she crossed to the other side. The staff changed once more, now becoming the fiery one. Ahead, an ice wall impeded her progress. She swung the staff in an arc, unleashing a wave of heat that melted the barrier. Breathing heavily but exhilarated, she turned to the guardian. "Is this sufficient?" "You have shown proficiency in wielding multiple elements through the staffs," it acknowledged. "You have passed the second trial."

The Third Trial: Responsibility

The environment shifted again, and Targa found herself in a small village. The inhabitants went about their lives peacefully, unaware of her presence it seemed. "Power without responsibility leads to destruction," the guardian spoke solemnly. "Your final trial is to protect without causing harm."

Dark clouds gathered overhead, and shadowy creatures began to descend upon the village. Targa gripped a staff that materialized in her hand, its element unknown to her yet. The creatures advanced, and she realized that using large scale offensive magic could harm the villagers. She needed precision. Focusing intently, she channeled her magic through the staff, creating barriers around the villagers' homes. The creatures clawed at the shields but couldn't break through. It seemed in this dreamscape she was more powerful than she was outside in the real world. Seeing an opportunity, she altered her approach. Pointing the staff skyward and summoning two more, she cast "Three Layered Magic Circle: Mirror Water." A large magic circle formed above imbued with protective energy. The circle reflected the creatures' attacks back at them, dispersing them without causing collateral damage.

The guardian appeared beside her. "You chose to defend rather than destroy. You wielded power responsibly. I did not expect that given what magic you have sealed inside you. But maybe that is why you chose that option. You know how dangerous offensive magic can be when used without responsibility." Targa met its gaze, or where she thought it's gaze was. "There's no point in power if it brings harm to those you're meant to protect." The guardian smiled and with a subtle shift in its ethereal form. "You have passed the final trial."

Targa
The dream landscape faded and Targa found herself back in her chamber at the academy. The scroll before her glowed softly before the light dissipated and it rolled itself back up. She felt a new energy within her... not the volatile surge of Crash Magic, but a steady, harmonious presence. Monty fluttered excitedly. "You're back! How did it go, kupo? I was there at first but then you vanished and I couldn't feel or see what was going on anymore. It's like I was kicked out!" She smiled warmly and patted his head, making sure hot to harm his pom pom. "I passed the trials. I can feel the magic of the Thousand Staffs of Abundance within me. Actually that's not correct. I just have the knowledge of how to use the magic with the use of a staff. It's a holder magic and not something from within."

The lore master who had been silently observing stepped forward. "Congratulations, Targa. I knew you had it in you. I was prepared to wait here for as long as it took. A half a day wasn't that long at all." She stood suddenly shocked.. "Thank you for believing in me but half a day? Are you sure? It felt like a hour at best. You're telling me I was sitting here for 12 hours?" He handed her a staff. "This is your training staff while you are here. It will serve as your primary conduit for magic until you get your own. I would suggest buying one that suits your needs as this one is common." She accepted it reverently. "It's perfect." "Remember... this magic relies on your ability to harmonize with your staffs. As you grow stronger, you'll be able to wield multiple staffs simultaneously, each granting you new abilities." Monty landed on her shoulder, his eyes shining with pride. "I can't wait to see what you can do, kupo!" She chuckled. "Neither can I."

Targa would spend the next couple weeks using the staff and casting basic spells out of it. Given the staff was a common Magic Staff the element of her magic was arcane. But she liked that the staff reduced the time needed to cast between each recasting of a spell. The one thing she would have to get used to more than anything was how visual her magic was now. A change from her invisible magic now sealed in her.
