”Wake up Merry, it’s time to make some coin” The mercenary urged the sleeping half-cat / half-machine as he finished putting on his own leather boots. Beeping and booping sounds immediately answered as the machia exceed woke up from its slumber.

”Aye Sir~” The little cat replied with a playful tone, walking up next to the warrior. ”What did the letter say?” The little cat asked as it stared at Kenzo with its blank, mechanical expression. The swordsman thought it was funny how much emotion the exceed could display even when somewhat limited by his artificial parts. Finishing adjusting his boot, Kenzo stood up before grabbing the piece of paper resting in his desk.

Passing it over to Merry, the warrior flashed a grin towards him. ”Hope you’ve got any IP65 or higher certification. We might be getting wet today.” The male chuckled at the implication. Pirates had come again.

As the two Blue Pegasus members made their way to the royal navy docks, Kenzo couldn’t help but feel an air of nostalgia wash over him. He could still remember the days when he first arrived in the country. All those years ago when he still had so much to learn and so much to grow. The mercenary had made his way around the major cities of the land, trying to get a feel for it and learn as much as possible. However, Hargeon had been a bit special in that regard.

Kenzo had never been a man of the sea, given his status as a mercenary that usually fought land battles. However, he’d spent a large amount of time fighting against the pirates raiding off the coasts of the Port he now called home. It was during one these jobs, when he’d met a captain of the royal navy.

Though the man had been barely promoted to captain, it had the foresight to recognize Kenzo’s talent with the sword, deciding to offer him a job helping them clear a band of nearby pirates. The two men set sail in multiple occasions, fighting back-to-back against hordes and entire fleets of fierce pirates. They’d originally met drinking at a tavern, but they truly became friends in the field of battle.

As soon as Kenzo returned to Hargeon for the first time in years, he was pleasantly surprised to find that his old friend had become a commodore of the navy. Toasting joyously to Kenzo’s return, the commodore gave the two of them a reason to celebrate even further. He was an important guy in the navy now, which meant he could offer better pay for the mercenary’s service. In the eyes of someone like Kenzo, this was nothing but great news.

The two of them exchanged contact information, which is how the letter requesting his help had arrived at the guild late at night. In a twisted way, Kenzo was glad that some things never changed. After all he was roaring to spill some pirate blood and earn some cash, he needed to replenish his funds now that he’d found himself back in the country.

”Hope you’ve left something for us~” Kenzo happily announced as he opened the door to the commodore’s office. Opening the door to allow themselves in, Kenzo and his tiny companion made their way inside without waiting for an invitation. ”Commodore, this is Merry. Merry, this is Commodore Nelson.”

”Ku-ku-ku. What’s that old piece of junk on your leg? Seems like you need an upgrade Commodore.” The mischievous exceed held both hands over his mouth as it chuckled, brandishing its own mechanical parts as if flaunting them.

”Keh- Sorry Nelson, this little one is way to cheeky for its own good” Kenzo apologized as he failed to suppress chuckling at the macchia’s tease. Truth be told, he was also wondering what had happened to the sailor’s leg. ”Hah. Reminds me of someone I know.” The commodore replied back, unbothered by the whole ordeal.

”The queen of pirates was found dead a couple of years ago under mysterious circumstances, her fleet was found completely decimated at a cove not too far from here. There was chaos after she passed away. Numerous factions fought for power. I was one of the few lucky to survive the carnage. I paid the price for my life with only a leg, so I consider myself lucky” The commodore explained, as it tapped the side of his wooden leg. ”Though, I suppose getting an Ethereum upgrade doesn’t sound too bad, don’t you think?”

Merry’s eyes widened with interest as the commodore explained the situation, blissfully unaware that the culprit behind Cheng Shih’s death had been none other than Kenzo. The little exceed’s ears perked up at the mention of the Ethereum. ”Huh? Ethereum is really the best… I can tell one of the people that does my maintenance to set you up” The proud cat replied as it huffed its chest, completely full of itself.

Kenzo simply chuckled at the interaction, deciding to remain silent about his involvement in the whole ordeal. Hearing that his rogue actions had led to the loss of the commodore’s leg brought a pang of regret over him. So he’d better pay him back by doing a good job now.
”Anyway…” He finally added, trying to change the topic. ”While I enjoy the chatter, I believe you’ve got a job for us Nelson. Hope you’re ready to splurge”

Kenzo grinned as the navy officer laughed at his comment, taking out a huge bag of jewels from a safe below his desk. [color:67ba=”orange”]”I’m sure this will be more than enough motivation?” The man flashed a satisfied smile as the contents spilled over the desk. ”You know the drill Kenzo. Beat them up, save the hostages, bring them back alive” The marine strained the last portion specifically, knowing that the warrior had a tendency to not measure his strength.

”Hahah don’t worry Nelson. For this amount I’ll even bring them all washed up and with nails trimmed” The two men laughed as they agreed to the terms. Nelson gave Kenzo a letter of passage, securing a spot on the ship of the line that was scheduled to set sail later that day. ”Let’s go Merry, we’ve got some high seas cleaning to do” The little cat followed along. ”Aye Sir!”

The Pegasi left the docks aboard the huge ship of the line. The vessel was huge, far more than any Kenzo had ever boarded. From the hectic crew rushing up and down making preparations for battle, the warrior could feel his blood boil in anticipation.

The chase climaxed a couple of hours after they left port, having made their way to the pirate hideout of a crew that had just raided a coastal village a couple of days ago. The fighting was fierce, dozens of men fell on both sides. The pirates held the overwhelming advantage, having fortified the shoreline with multiple 100 pounder cannons. While the magnificent ship of the line was mighty, the concentrated firepower of the defenses proved too much to beat.

That is, if the mercenary was not on board. Jumping off the deck, Kenzo soared through the skies with his magical cape, arriving to the shore in a thunderous crash. The sounds of firing cannons was heard for no more than an instant, being cut in a flash that few people could keep up with.

With the defenses now neutralized, Kenzo and the rest of the navy managed to completely defeat the pirates, capturing them for delivery at the Port, and most imporantly, liberated the prisoners.

As the blue-haired warrior counted the spoils of war back at Nelson’s office, he let out a satisfied sigh.

”It’s good to be back my friend”
