Alisa

That first mission had been easy enough, yet even then Alisa understood it came very close to not being worth the hundred thousand jewels the wannabe detective paid her. Had she truly gotten in trouble with the law over the theft of those weapons, bailing herself out would end up costing a good part of that money if not more, and running away (as she'd have most likely done) would only mean more trouble in the long run, as well as burning off all the bridges she'd been building with the few people in the Council she was close to. Well, not exactly the council, but the part of it that actually mattered to her, the Rune Knights.

She counted both Evangeline and Alice among her friends, but didn't really know what would happen if they happened upon an arrest warrant with her name on it.

It wasn't really something she wanted to find out, especially not for a measly a hundred thousand jewels... Alas, this was only the first mission. And since Alisa was planning on clearing as many of them as she could get her hands on, she didn't have the luxury of just doing one job a day. She had looked at every one of them when the train arrived, right before going to sleep, and thus knew what job to tackle next, in the not so early hours of the morning. It was only ten o'clock, so she still had a lot of time as she arrived at the apartment mention in the request. A young, thirty or forty something man opened the door, and she immediately guessed him to be the one who posted the request. Unlike him who grunted and scratched his head in visible effort:

"Yo... So, you're the uhm, mage... Right?", he greeted almost dismissively, in a way that was nothing short of rude. But the way he grabbed and rubbed at his forehead with an afflicted look said everything Alisa needed to know, and she did nothing but smile, "Well, don't stand out there all day, come in."

Ignoring the visibly hangover man's predictably sour mood, she stepped inside the apparentment, she was also greeted by a far warmer old lady, the man's mother or grandmother judging by their common facial features:

"Good morning dear. Please excuse my son, will you? He has a way of...", she glanced at the younger man with a disapproving frown before looking right back at Alisa, "Overindulging."

"It's quite alright, Mrs...?", Answered Alisa, just before finding herself stuck in the name. The son cut ahead and introduce her as Rynah Noran - instead of letting his mother do it herself - which earned yet another little argument about letting her take care of herself.

Clearly this mother and son relationship seemed a bit strained, but in the end, Alisa hiring a caretaker made for a far better and more humane treatment to the elderly than simply shipping them off to a retirement home where they'd have nowhere to turn to except a slow descent into senility.

This old lady, however, still appeared to have her full mental faculties: Her mind endured the the bludgeoning of the years far more so than her body, but even then she could still move around without asking her son or Alisa for help at every waking moment. The Son, however, assured the Pegasus of his mother's need for assistance, and how she should consider a retirement home. But she would have none of it.

Eventually the younger man left to take care of his business. The usual caretaker couldn't come this morning, meaning Alisa would have to cover for her until she did, and so she remained with Mrs Noran in the kitchen, sharing a cup of tea as the old lady kept her hands busy knitting. Alisa yielded to her curiosity eventually, and wound up asking her more about her relationship with her son:

"Oh, I know he means well...", she answered with a warm smile, that quickly faded as she though back to more recent conflict, "He's just... Overbearing. Takes after his late father, I suppose.", and finally sighed, "That's right, I should bake some cookies. He used to love those when he was a child."

Apparently the son didn't even allow his mother to bake anything anymore, ever since she nearly burned down the whole apartment on accident. A scary little thought that left Alisa rather uneasy at the idea of abandoning the kitchen, especially once the old lady left to fetch something. Of course, only after a couple hours into the job Alisa understood fully well why the childish and selfish bartender bothered to pay for his mother's caretaker despite her objections. Despite otherwise being completely lucid, Mrs Noran often forgot things an ordinary person wouldn't, such as to come back and check on her cookies after putting them in the oven, leaving her cooking alone for far longer than any cook worth her salt ever would.

Now, Alisa was no baker, but she'd seen plenty of people bake cookies to understand when something was left inside the oven at full power and left there, so she carefully walked over to the stove and lowered the heat before going away to look for the old lady, ensuring that the house would not only not burn down, but that neither of them would end up eating anything extra crispy. It worked however, and it thankfully appeared she had lowered the heat at just about the right time, or at least come pretty close to. How did she know that, when even Mrs Noran had no idea when she actually interfered? Simple: They still tasted amazing.

"My, these are delicious~", Alisa praised, barely able to contain her delight as she reached one hand to her cheek, enthralled by the sweet, crunchy, yet not the slightest bit toasted flavor.

"I'm glad you enjoyed them dear. Here, take a few for the road.", she'd set aside a couple of cookies on a plastic box.

And it was all Alisa could do to keep Mrs. Noran from force feeding her half the whole bunch, or making her take the whole thing back with her. After much negotiation, she convinced the old lady to keep half the cookies for herself and her son, and went off to have a proper lunch as opposed to an early dessert.
