”Why’re you pushing yourself so far?”
Darkness engulfed her within a blink of an eye and a familiar voice boomed in her ears; one that she used to be so frightened to hear of. Despite how the surroundings were entirely pitch-black and she could hardly see her own fingers, she knew where she was without any doubts—the demon’s realm. It had been very long since the demon that resided within her contacted her, and she wondered why, since it was never for a good cause. The face of the demon protruded from the shadows, horns extended from its rough and textured skull and demanded an answer to his question.
”I don’t feel strong enough—yet.”
”You know how easily you can obtain power,” the demon smirked, its face inching closer to hers and she could almost feel the warm breath from his nostrils on her features.
”No! I don’t want your power,” she spat, her face twisting in anger and hands balled into tight fists by her side. ”The last time you did that, you almost killed him!” Memories came flashing before her eyes, as she recalled the moment when she had actually tried to kill her most beloved person. No, it wasn’t her—it was the demon. The beast took the advantage of the moment of her being vulnerable, when she almost lost herself and everything occurred so fast afterwards. The next moment, she was completely possessed by the demon, having her appearance changed as well as her personality and all she could remember was her clawed hands around the neck of Chelvaric; the worst of it all.
Her eyes stung from tears, despite how hard she tried to hold them back. It was a memory that she casted away with the rest of her history, albeit, it was something that she could never forget. Nails sunk into her flesh and crescent shapes formed on her skin, wounds caused by her own nails—it hurt, but it was nothing compared to what she did to her own lover. The demon stated nothing afterwards, and simply gazed at her with cold blooded eyes before it vanished into back into the darkness. It would never understand.
The assassin awoke to the cold sensation of snow upon her skin, and for some reason, she found herself on the ground, on top of a layer of freshly fallen snow. Scrambling back onto her feet, she wondered if she’d passed out from exhaustion, but that was the least of her worries at the moment—she needed to continue with the rest of her training.
