Michelle couldn’t go around asking to meet a particular Rune Knight in the middle of the capital. Most people either assume she needs assistance and point them towards some random Rune Knight in the vicinity or simply ignore her with a non-committal murmur. People were too busy going about their daily business and rebuilding the capital; they didn’t have much time for hide and seek, especially when she refuses to give them exact details as to why she was searching for this dark-haired young Rune Knight girl.

Nevertheless, she wasn’t willing to quit. She knew all Rune Knights will be assigned for patrol duty and they mostly stayed within their given jurisdiction. The dark-skinned lady just had to scan the entire capital and watch out for the girl in the most crowded sections. That task was a lot easier said than done.

She was crossing the Crocus Gardens, wondering if the girl might be stationed there. That’s when a young Seated Rune Knight walked up to her and asked her if she had time to help. Usually, she would have declined, but seeing this man was a Rune Knight, she presumed he might have information on the girl she was searching for. Obviously, she can’t simply say no to his request and then bombard him with her questions. So, she agreed to help him. Apparently, the man had lost his sword within the gardens and wanted her to find it. Giving the man a fake smile, she nodded and entered the gardens, hoping this doesn’t take the entirety of the day.

For a few days now, the young man had been a willing host to the demon. While things had started off rocky in terms of his threshold and capacity to contain the demon, he was slowly recovering. So far, it seemed the two consciences could co-inhabit It still felt odd to not have the ability to cast his own magic. As he strolled the streets of the partially destroyed town of Crocus, he noticed how the Capitol was already on its way to recovery. He hadn't really decided how he felt about the new rule, but at least someone had had the balls to dethrone the lazy entitled king that had ruled before. He flexed his fingers into a fist and then opened them out again, as though testing his strength of his digits. What he was hoping to see was some spark of fire... When would Lucifer trust him enough to grant him his resource pool?

Rattled with impatience, he scanned the streets for possible tasks he could accomplish, just to stack some jewels in an annoyingly light money pouch. That's when a familiar dark face swam into his view. He folded his arms and smirked as he watched the woman from a distance. 'Well... Well... Well... What have we here?' he thought, smirking as he recalled the night the woman and he had shared together. It was not one he'd count among his favorites, but it did leave him with some intriguing amusement. Casually he strutted to the woman, wondering how she'd react to his presence in the daylight.

The assassin roamed the gardens, keeping her eyes trained on the pathways. If the man had dropped his sword accidentally, she assumed it would be close to where he walked. So, unless he walked on the grass, which was prohibited and he didn’t seem like the kind who would break rules, she figured it was most likely going to be on the edges of the grass patches. Little did she know the sword was on the move, with a canine.

Lost in the prospect of finding the sword as soon as possible and getting the information out of the Seated Rune Knight, she didn’t notice the blonde man approaching her until he was only a few meters away from her. Looking up, she recognized him immediately. “Look who is up and walking,” she said, smirking at the man. “Don’t have any food packets on me this time,” she added, before continuing with the search.

Having spent one night with the man, sharing the same bed, she knew that he was the chatty kind. And if he had so much to say when he looked like he was about to die, Michelle didn’t want to know how much he would talk when he is up and healthy. “Make yourself useful and find me a lost sword while you do your talking,” she said, still scanning the surroundings for the sword and not meeting his eye.

Victor's eyebrows knit together while she addressed him rather sassily, his eyes flashed a lighter orange, but he blinked quickly to keep the demon in check. She's pretty much harmless, Victor spoke to Lucifer in his head. He didn't need to remind the demon of their first encounter with the woman, she had remained within their discussed limits then and she'd shown no outward signs of antagonism then, or now, the two agreed she was... safe. He hooked his hands over his waist and he cocked his head sizing her up again.

He pursed his lips instead of responding to anything she said since the woman had pretty much assumed the direction of this conversation anyway. He'd never asked her for food, but at least it was a good way of letting him know she remembered him. 'Either you have a great memory, or I must've left quite an impression...' Victor muttered as he strode alongside her, now stretching his arms overhead, before folding them behind the back of his head. 'I'll find a way to make it up to you for the food.' he said with a soft sigh.

Finally, when she instructed him he cleared his throat and he shook his head, 'But you're doing such a fine job of searching for it yourself, I'd rather not interrupt the view...' he added with a wink. Once again, while his words habitually sounded flirty, he didn't seem to have any true intent behind them. The girl was nice to look at, but for the first time in forever, he didn't feel any... carnal attraction towards a young woman, it was refreshing actually.

Michelle chuckled when he said he might have left quite the impression. It was indeed that, but not because of his actions. The girl couldn’t explain the slightly warm feelings she had towards the man. It had nothing to do with the fact that he was of the opposite gender. It seemed to be more on the protective and caring side, like that of family. This was the first time she was ever feeling something remotely like that towards anyone other than Benjamin; so, she had no good explanation to herself.

“It’s got nothing to do with you. I don’t meet many people I don’t know. Definitely not twice within a week,” she said, looking up at him. “Must be fate… Michelle Hunter,” she said, extending her hand for a shake. She had already written her second name in a note along with that packet of food she left for him. Now, it was time to know his name.

Even if the man gave up his name, she wouldn’t hear it. Looking beyond Victor, she would notice a small dog run across the grass patch next to them… with a sword in its mouth. “There!” she exclaimed, pointing towards the dog and running after it. Noticing that he was being chased, the dog would begin running away faster. “Go around and block its escape,” she yelled at Victor as she continued chasing the canine.

Victor smiled, it was surprisingly more genuine than he had ever offered anyone before, in fact, it was more of a toothy grin. His smile usually meant he was trying to get someone to feel at ease, so they'd be more inclined to relinquish whatever the blonde was after. The young man felt almost child-like in her presence, perhaps because he couldn't think of a single thing he wanted from her. With no goal attributed to this encounter, he could freely just exist around her. His words and expressions were not calculated to manipulate her doing anything or giving up information or any of that. Since she'd so freely shared her name, he wasn't even plagued with the intense curiosity that made him want to tear people apart...

This felt like a gift. He wondered if it was Lucifer's presence that had tempered his own, whether the demon as a permanent companion, made him less wary. 'Victor Garrett.' he said with a gentle nod and took her hand in his, they shared a firm respectable handshake, none of that gentle caressing and stuff followed, the two just swiftly pulled their hands away. Then she spotted the dog carrying the sword she was presumably after. The woman was quite bossy, but her plan was quite in congruence with what Victor would have done anyways. 'Right.' he said simply as he jogged across to the other side to corner the canine.

The little dog was not just fast, but also a lot more agile than she anticipated. It took very sharp turns to throw his pursuer off and Michelle even fell for it a couple of times. But, once Victor comes around the corner to block all its escape routes, the puppy would give up and drop the sword. Michelle sighed and watched the dog as it circled the sword, whining. She almost felt like letting the dog have it and telling the Rune Knight that she never found the sword. Maybe she would have had it not been something the dog might hurt itself or others with, accidentally. So, she picked up the sword and handed it to Victor before petting the dog.

In a moment, the puppy forgot all about the sword and was thoroughly enjoying the petting. The assassin wished she had such a carefree life, but quickly reprimanded herself for having such thoughts. Benjamin’s image flashed and she was back to her efficient mode. She shooed the dog away, still gently, and watched it run along. Once it was out of vicinity, she turned to Victor and smiled softly. “Alright… Let’s go hand that sword over,” she said, before turning on her heels and walking towards the exit.

Once they were within the Armin’s field of view, he would notice the sword and come running towards them. “Yes! That’s the one,” he said, grinning. “Thank you so much!” He then handed a pouch of jewels to Michelle. The assassin didn’t care much for the money, so she thrust the pouch towards Victor and began questioning the Rune Knight. “Do you know of a Rune Knight girl? Dark-haired… Mid teens. She uses darkness magic,” she asked eagerly. The man thought about it for almost a minute and Michelle thought she was going to get something out of him. But in the end, he simply shook his head and apologized. “Sorry! Can’t recall anyone like that. You should go to the HQ and inquire. You will definitely find her then,” he suggested.

Idiot! As if I can walk into HQ after deceiving one of you. But he didn’t know that. So, she simply smiled and thanked him before walking away. Turning towards Victor, she said, “Well… That was a waste of time. By the way… I’m holding you to your word on repaying for the dinner.”

'Drop it.' Victor commanded, with enough care tucked behind a facade of sternness. The blonde smiled, satisfied as the dog dutifully dropped the sword. While he didn't much care for people, animals could occasionally win him over. He watched the woman, pet the dog as he twirled the sword in a single hand. Following which, he kept the pointy end away from the creature before kneeling on a knee, to rub the puppy's belly as it rolled over. Abruptly, play with the puppy time was called to its conclusion. It wasn't like Victor had to listen, but she took charge and sent the furry animal away. Victor pouted exaggeratedly. 'But I was having fun, mommy!' he mocked, before pulling himself back to a standing position, he took a few more swings with the sword as Michelle beckoned him in order to hand it over.

Striding beside her and occasionally changing stance to jab with the air with the weapon, he decided to offer his thoughts on the Rune Knight. 'That is one stupid Rune Knight, to have let a dog run away with his sword, is he even worth the weapon?' he asked, with a disappointment in his voice. It seemed like Rune Knights truly were an organization filled with the runts of humanity. The man shook his head as he handed the weapon to the dark-haired woman so she could give it back to the owner. Victor had no interest in dealing with the hair-brained man, but he inched closer to the conversing duo, habitually he eavesdropped, not out of any malicious intent, perhaps out of some sort of compulsion...

He made it a point to ask about this girl she was looking for... And hmphed in response to her evaluation, he chuckled softly. 'Right away then, I suppose, I don't like to owe people things.' he said, nodding curtly and steering them towards the Inn.
