Avain Locrean

Personal

Name: Avain Locrean

Age: 15. October 3rd X770.

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Homosexual

Class: Overseer

Race: N/A

Rank: D-rank

Guild: Guildless

Tattoo: Maroon. Back of the right hand.

Face: Iceland: Axis Powers Hetalia

Appearance

Height: 5’7”

Weight: 143lb

Hair: White.

Eyes: Blue.

Overall: Despite his relative youth and diminutive size, Avain tends to command a certain kind of respect with his presence. Perhaps it’s the sharpness in his eyes, or the steely disposition of his posture, but it’s always there; a sense of nobility and purpose that he’s never quite been able to shake. And yet if one can manage to look past this facade it’s easy to see his youth. The boy is limber, well-toned but not well built. His hair a stark white, and his skin only a single shade darker. In fact were it not for the inconsistent colouring of his eyes one might easily mistake the boy for an albino.

Extra: A jagged scar running down his back, from the tip of his right shoulder-blade to the left side of his waist.

Personality

Personality: By all means a logical and methodical young magician, the large majority of Avain’s decision making is done in a way that optimizes the chances of his definition of success. As a result some consider the teenager to possess a lack of empathy, exemplified on numerous occasions by a rather blunt manner of expressing his often highly opinionated perspectives on the individuals that find themselves surrounding him. Despite this Avain is more than self-aware aware enough to recognize the fact that so many of his peers perceive him in such a negative way, and yet his remarkable resilience tends to allow him to him shunt aside such concerns without much personal care.

Nevertheless whilst his people skills leave much to be desired, it’s difficult nigh impossible to deny that Avain is an incredibly passionate and driven young academic. What he lacks in social awareness, the teenager more than makes up for in an astonishing, consistent display of work ethic, and an intellectual prowess far beyond his years. Utilizing his magical prowess as something like an extension of his mind, Avain had the potential to draw information from every aspect of the area around him in mere instants, making him an incredibly resourceful in particular situations where his colleagues can put up with his arrogant nature.

And yet despite all his social flaws, Avain still possesses the potential to forge relationships with the most unlikely allies. If Avain sees in someone a true potential for strength or growth, combined with a hardy work ethic, the teenager is capable of giving due credit in an otherwise incredibly rare respectful manner. It is to these sorts of people that Avain can become an incredibly loyal ally, yet such a trait is by no means commonly displayed.

Likes:

  • Knowledge: It is power after all, a credo by which Avain has always strived to uphold. In a world with so much unknown, the boy places infinite value on keeping informed on just about everything and anything to do with the world in which he lives. Political undertakings, arcane research, global expeditions, warfare tactics. Any kind of knowledge that might prove useful in the long run is invaluable, and he seeks to educate himself as thoroughly as possible at every oppurtunity.
  • Structure: Without it, plans become less reliable, both short and long term. Avain has plenty of both, and so his insistence on structure and order is meticulous to the point of compulsion. And yet it has consitently him well in terms of his growth as a mage, and in his academic endeavours.

Dislikes:

  • Instinct: He’s yet to see it claim a life, but Avain has no doubt it can, and will, on multiple occasions. Whilst some may thrive on their instincts, Avain abhors the idea on both a logical and emotional level. To him it demonstrates both a lack of maturity and an overbearing narcissist. To presume that one’s immediate thought is inherently more potent than a carefully laid plan is downright offensive, especially more so when lives other than one’s own are at stake.
  • Whining: If you have a problem. Fix it. It’s not Avain’s responsibility to talk you through how and why. The time spent complaining is time not spent dealing with the issue at hand, and if you can’t see that you’re not worth talking to regardless.

Motivations:

  • Retribution: A name disgraced, a house sundered, a father wrongfully imprisoned and a family scattered, Avain has plenty of bones to pick. To his best understanding, a fetic corruption in the magic council is the root of the cause and whilst it seems unfathomable task in the short term, Avain has always been a fan of the long game. But whether or not the council is truly to blame remains murky at best, for a child only ever sees the best in their father.

Fears:

  • Discovery: His true name holds a lot of a infamy amongst the relevant authorities, and whilst Avain is sharp for his age, he’s got enough self-awareness to know that this whole “being on the run” thing is going to take a lot more than a big brain. For now, he’s resorted to paranoia, perhaps in the long term he’ll get used to life on the run, but until then he’s just keeping as low a profile as possible.
  • Failure: For all the joys of wealthy upbringing, it certainly doesn't prepare one for a life below nobility. With his family scattered across the continent Avain has taken it upon himself to bear the responsibility of establishing the honor of his name. The fact that the best he can do for now is run is embarrassing, and in truth downright infuriating. But the only thing worse than running is being caught again, because that would mean complete failure.

Magic

Magic Name: Ocular Magic

Magic Element: Non-Elemental

Magic Description: A manifestation of magic through vision, Ocular magic allows the user to perceive reality on an inhuman scale, and to utilise this perception in aiding their allies. Whilst not offensively potent, Ocular magic is particularly powerful behind the frontlines, allowing the user to take full advantage of their line of sight and control the flow of battle. Manifesting in the eyes of the user, Avain’s irises change their hue depending on the nature of current magical focus. Each spell has its own specific coloration and accompanying physical motion, but as a general rule they consist of golds, purples and reds, and a selection of hand signs or trigger words.

Ocular magic tends to lean towards supplementary usage including but not limited to telescopic vision, night vision, x-ray vision, long sight or powerful analytic capability. However Avain is also able to channel magic into physical form within his line of sight, establishing barriers, projecting images or channelling his own energy into directly into the bodies of his allies. At later stages of mastery, Ocular magic has the potential for brief moments of prophetic insight, although this is a level few mages find themselves capable of.

Whilst commanding in favourable conditions, where line of sight is well established and protected, Ocular magic is severely hampered by loss of vision as the user cannot target an opponent or ally without line of sight. As a power highly dependent on the presence of allies, this kind of disadvantage is one to be strictly avoided.

As an Overseer, Avain is capable of casting defensive spells, buffing his allies and providing both supplementary and healing support.

[Ocular magic explicitly excludes the capacity for any of the magics listed in the banned area of the magic regulations guide.]

History

History: The second youngest child of Arturan and Cecillia Locrean, Avain enjoyed a childhood gilded with all the fruits of wealth. A strong, wordly education, a loving family, and a gateway into the upper echelons of society. Although the likelihood of him inheriting his father’s position was diminutive, he took to the delicacies of upper society like a duck to water. Whilst his elder siblings were either too flighty or aggressive for the pursuit, Avain found a peculiar joy in navigating the political minefield of diplomacy from as young as eight. As a result, he enjoyed a particularly close relationship with his father.

Arturan was well established in Crocus, albeit (unknown to Avain) coming from a history less than savoury. His position had been earned of course, but the cost had more considerable than gold and maintaining his post required consistent investment. As Avain entered his teenage years, he found his father growing increasingly distant, drained by an ever increasing pressure to maintain the security of his position. Taking this in his stride, Avain turned his focus to the academic endeavours, educating himself on all matters political in the Crocus sphere. It seemed at the time, the most he could do to help his father.

As the years went by, Avain’s patience for his father waned, and his understanding of the man’s absence dwindled. Noting this, Cecillia took great effort to comfort the boy, taking it upon her to satiate his desire for knowledge by educating him about the world beyond Fiore, and guiding him through the basic control of magical prowess. It was in magic that Avain found the most powerful distraction, it’s infinite potential a source of equal intrigue.

As they matured, Avain and his siblings each found their own avenues of distraction from the gradual disintegration of a once connected family. Of the elder twins Leithen favoured the sword, and Marianne found comfort in the arts. Meanwhile Avain and his younger sister Vespera found themselves insatiably invested in the potential of magic. Meanwhile their father grew more distant by the day, outside forces applying pressure at an immeasurable rate.

It wasn’t until his fifteenth birthday that Avain would understand the necessity of his father’s apparent myopic focus, awoken to screams and the stench of smoke. In the middle of the night, the Locrean household found itself besieged by a squadron of Rune Knights, his father arrested on charges of treason and his mother seemingly vanished. Their assets frozen and land reclaimed by the council, Avain and Vespera found themselves declared wards of the state, whilst Marianne and Leithen were held on the same charges as their father. In the confusion that followed, Avain found himself separated from Vespera, the two remaining siblings sent to separate orphanages, unaware of the eachother’s destination.

Unbridled in his fury, Avain managed to constrain himself until he felt it pass. Whilst idleness felt wasteful, rash decisions could only lead to a worse predicament, instead, the boy allowed himself time to formulate a means of escape. As time passed, the head of his new dorm seemed to relax, and visits from the council trickled to a stop. Scouring the papers for any kind of information about his family’s arrest, Avain was shocked to find no mention whatsoever. It seemed almost obscene that after only a month, the organisation that seemed so desperate to splinter his family had seemingly lost all interest, and that the media had never even heard of their arrest in the first place.

Determined to expose the corruption at the root of his family’s disgrace, Avain took the time to carefully prepare himself before setting out on the open road. For now he was content simply to run, his destination unclear, save a name his father had mentioned in the briefest of moments, a name Avain had all but forgotten till now.

“If you're ever in dire need. Seek out Silveil Pengrast. Tell her I sent you, and that my debt is due.”

Hi there~

I'm Alice and let's get over your character application!

As you are picking the overseer class, you have to pick a magic. As a starter you make your own magic and in a later stage (character wise and site wise as the shop is closed now since we are changing things) you can buy a magic from the store.

With that please add the information you did with the eyes. If it's based on magic, you should add it there and the regular eye colour/no magic influence in the description of eyes.

As we are working on rules for nobility would you please change anything regarding to the word nobility to wealthy family. This to prevent issues with the future ruling and possible perks.

And last, currently Red Hades is still under development. This does not mean you can't join at a later point but please remove the last sentence from your history. For now keep it to yourself until Red Hades will get a clearer part in the story and you can know about it in character.

Please expand a little on your magic, because magic related to vision or eyes are not allowed, such as for example turning people into stone by only looking at them.

Though it's hard to use the current regulations as we are changing them, I can tell you that you still need to make a motion when casting a spell and squinting your eyes for example won't be enough. I am okay with your eyes changing colour and you yourself giving you a disadvantage if you have no sight but what kind of spells do you intend to make? Can you cast a defensive wall for example with your eyes looking at the right direction?

Avain Locrean
Extrapolated on his abilities in a new paragraph and mentioned that each spell comes with an accompanying physical motion (generally a hand sign or trigger word unique to each spell.)

Also stipulated that Ocular magic is incapable of replicating any of the banned eye magics.

It looks very good now, the thing is that I want to give you a 'warning' to say it like that. Our magic regulations are changing, so it might be that some things like heat vision (for example!!!) can only be done by fire mages.

I leave the decision to you of course but keep in mind that things might change for you. Of course you can change your magic in the future but that might take some time, jewels, points and so on.

Thanks for the heads up! I've changed that one to something else for now and if Heat Vision is still available down the line I'll look into it later on.

Should be all good now :)
