Click. The sound resonated through the silent corridor, drowning out the infuriated puffs of breath on the other side of the wooden door. Her hand slipped off the cold knob and fell to her side as she leaned her back against the surface momentarily, heaving a heavy sigh. Pushing herself off the door, she glanced towards it with eyes full of disdain. Her nose scrunched up in annoyance as the reprimanding words she heard on the other side still lingered in her ears. Muttering a string of colorful words, that if heard, would only earn more disproving stares, she walked towards the end of the corridor where an open door displaying the clear sky awaited her. She ignored the curious glances that were tossed her way by the prying knights around who wondered what she had done to earn the rage of her superiors which roared through the building before sauntering out into the open where the blue sky awaited her.

While she had truly enjoyed the thrill that came with being a knight, one of the most discouraging factors of her knighthood was the indestructible hierarchy that was followed throughout the system. It irked her to have to consistently follow a conventional set of rules laid out by those above her. However, there was little that she could do about it. Her past actions had already gotten her admonished a few times; it was perhaps only a matter of time before she would have to face serious repercussions for her actions despite the fact that she merely followed her duty. Alas, her leading hand in the orchidia incident which led to the exposure of few of her superiors' involvement in illegal activities had put her under their rage radar. Despite the consistent glares from them, she didn't particularly mind being disliked.

Pushing her hand into the pocket of her jeans, she pulled out the mundane amulet that was proof of her affiliation. She juggled it in her hand while her eyebrows furrowed in annoyance. It was the verification of her position as a knight and oddly enough, she clutched it in an attempt to suppress the urge to simply toss it aside. She needed it at that moment. However, that led her to wonder how long she would truly need it for as the passage of time diminished her purpose to stay with the Rune Knights. As she was lost in thoughts, her mind jumping from one train of thought to another, she coincidentally glanced at the pocket watch that was grasped tightly within the hand of a bypasser. Her purple hues widened as Xandra realized it was past the designated time to meet. Quickly shoving the relic within her hand back into the darkness of her pockets, she broke out into a light jog towards the breakfast diner a few blocks ahead.

The previous day, the Bellan had traveled to the town of Era with a friend whom she had met after a long time. Despite the lack of time they had to completely catch up with one another, the two had quickly mended their loose thread of friendship. Irrespective of the past or present, Finn had become someone she could be comfortable with and that comfort was what she craved at that moment. Perhaps in an attempt to quickly bury her prior thoughts, she rushed over to the decided meeting point which was close enough for her to reach in approximately ten minutes.

Upon reaching the diner which was bustling with people enjoying their morning meals and chatting away, she glanced through the transparent glass window, searching for a familiar ivory head which was nowhere to be found. Before she realized, her head was too close to the glass pane as she was too engrossed in attempting to spot him through the scurrying waiters, among the customers who had already taken a seat. Xandra couldn't help but wonder whether he had already left.

The Next Chapter [Finn] Empty Tue Dec 24, 2019 12:18 pm

Tenshi †
It had already been quite the long day.

Finn had woken early, very early in fact. He hadn't found himself able to sleep over the past few weeks, and his run in with Xandra hadn't helped. The two of them had traveled to Era together, with him needing to finally finish his quest and her needing to check in with the order of the Rune Knights. The fact that their travel necessities had worked out perfectly should have been a great thing; Should have.

Instead, Finn found himself overwhelmed by the same thoughts that had begun to creep into his mind when they had met each other once more. It was a coincidence for two people who knew each other to meet, completely unplanned, in a town that neither of them normally visited. A coincidence so extreme that even a man like himself who didn't spare a thought for ideas such as fate or destiny had question how in the hell it happened.

It were as though, sometimes, the things that happened to him were ordained by entities far beyond his explanation.

It was a thought that would have plagued him for days if it weren't for what happened next. Finn had come to Era in order to finish his mastery over the legendary sword Durendal. He had made his way to a cave that was very similar to the one he and Jake had originally fetched it from, back to the stone case it had been trapped within, and performed the ritual that was said to bind it with its owner. What he had not expected, however, was the physical change that came alongside that.

Whatever the sword was had merged itself with his very essence, and at the end of it Finn looked incredibly different. It was as though his entire physique had altered itself to be more optimal for things such as combat, which made sense in an odd way, but why did it change his very face and hair as well?

It was wondering how and why that happened that kept him from worrying about Xandra, and those thoughts ricochet through his mind enough for him to not even notice the time. Instead, he was knocked out of his confusion as his eyes refocused on a familiar visage. She looked slightly out of breath, though he was certain it was not at all because of any rushing she did. With people as fit as they were, even vast distances weren't enough to tire them. Still, something about seeing the blonde beauty breathlessly search the breakfast cafe brought a grin to his face and relaxed his otherwise tense body. He felt at ease.

Slowly, his hand raised and he stood. "Hey, Xandra." An awkward smile made its way to his face, along with a nervous chuckle. Luckily enough his voice remained unchanged, but even then she'd still have no idea who he was. At most a vague sense of familiarity; After all, for her a completely foreign man with a familiar voice just called her name. If anything she'd be confused and wondering why the hell he was talking to her.

"It's me... And it's a, uh, very long story." With an awkward laugh, he sat back down to the table. Upon it sat only a glass of water and what looked to be coffee, though it was heavy on creamer and sugar. It seemed as though he had not eaten yet, instead having decided to wait for her regardless of the delay.

At least they'd have something to talk about while they ate.

Purple hues darted from left to right, scanning the crowd before her in an attempt to catch a glimpse of his pale hair that had immediately grabbed her attention the first time. However, despite her attempts which resulted in failure, she continued looking. Pushing open the glass door and entering the cool, air-conditioned hall, she was still unable to see him. Unknowingly, a frown had knitted her eyebrows together as she wondered if he had left. Or perhaps he too, was late. Regardless of the reason for his apparent absence, Xandra found herself feeling rather disheartened as a feeling of unease crawled over her. Her thoughts were very much occupied by Finn, so much so that she almost didn't notice her name being called out among the whispers of idle chatter.

Once her name was called out but by a seemingly familiar voice, she immediately turned to her side as she had managed to put a face to it. However, much to her surprise, before her stood a tall man, completely different from the Finn she knew. He hovered over other diners, who sat in their respective tables around him. Despite having been pretty tall herself, she had to slightly crane her neck to look at him. His whole existence was so prominent before her that she couldn't help but observe him as his golden eyes stared back at her while an adorably awkward smile lined his lips. His loose raven hair fell over his forehead, letting the shimmering gold in her eyes take the spotlight as it glistened underneath the dull light that helped further illuminate the brightly lit room. Her eyes darted towards the small beauty mark that rested before his left eye, blending into his tan skin and yet, bringing a certain charm to his face. His tall and lean body simply occupied her line of sight and for a moment, she had forgotten that she had put a different face to his voice. She was sure she would never have forgotten meeting someone as nearly as handsome as he.

Despite the odd feeling of familiarity that radiated from that man, she couldn't help but conclude that he was not Finn. After all, she was looking for a very specific ivory-headed, pale and tall man who looked nothing like him. Reluctantly and rather unfortunately, she had to dismiss the idea that he called out to her. Perhaps she had misheard and her irksome thoughts as well as her excitement to find her friend had caused her to start hearing things. After staring at him blankly for a moment, she was so close to tearing her gaze away from him and attempting to continue her search. However, that plan was tossed out of the window by this seemingly beautiful stranger as he spoke up, in a voice all too familiar to her.

"It's me... And it's a, uh, very long story."

Those words were enough to allow her to widen her eyes slightly as she processed the information she had just received. She stood there, stagnant, for a few moments as she watched him sit down, bringing life to the table that only carried a glass of water and a pastel cup of coffee. Without shifting her gaze, she walked up and sat across from him. She leaned in slightly with her hands placed on the wooden table.

"Finn!?"

Her voice came out a lot more surprised than what she had hoped. However, she was far too confused and mesmerized to care. The waitress walked up to them, asking for an order which the Bellan quickly dismissed by ordering whatever he was having, without even examining what it exactly was. She didn't take her eyes off of him the whole time. If she had stopped to think for a moment, it wasn't extremely rare for individuals to completely change their appearance overnight but that didn't stop her from wanting to ask so many questions. 'What happened? How did it happen? When did it happen?' She wanted to say many things, which was evident as her lips moved hesitantly without letting out any sound whatsoever. She leaned back into the chair, hoping to voice out her thoughts but much to her dismay, the only thing that he would have heard was an expression she could no longer suppress.

"Wow."

How strange it must have been for her to have to process this information so suddenly, and in such a crowded place in which she couldn't take time to herself in which to do so. While it may have been true that people in the Wizarding world changed appearances quite often, for Finn it was a relatively new and unheard of experience. He couldn't remember many people from his past whose physical form changed, with the exception of those whose races had also changed with it. So for him, a human with no magic, it was even stranger.

Her voice when she pieced together who he must be sounded incredulous. To be fair, he most likely should have waited for her outside so that he could have caught her right away. Hindsight pointed out how odd this situation must have been, and how she would have maintained every right to assume he was a stranger and never to join him at that table at all.

Yet, it seemed as though she was willing to accept the reality as it was for now. She came over to his table, joined him there, and upon his brief and lacking explanation, she simply uttered her disbelief and continued to look at him. His mind was all over the place, too distracted with itself to make sense of whatever her facial expression was. Instead, as far as his mind was concerned, she was equal parts shocked and disturbed. He looked down at his finger, slowly tracing intricate designs along the table, and for a moment he felt disassociated with his own body. He had never had this olive skin tone before, or quite such long fingers. Everything about himself felt off, from his height to his weight distribution.

His lips drew a tight line across his face, and then broke the silence and tension with a laugh. "I must look so strange, I'm sure." His brought his hand up and pushed his bangs up and away from his face. Upon his skin were tattoos that were so natural that they seemed to be a part of his being themselves, as if they had magically formed with his appearance; Which, in fact, they had.

His eyes searched her out, a nervous grin on his face. "This must be so weird for you. I'm sorry. Lets move past my new, weird look for now. Era! You wanted to come here, right? Something to do with your guild and work you needed to get done if I recall correctly. How is all of that going?" He smiled, but it was obvious that he was only partially present. His mind slowly drifted along, trying to make peace with his complete and sudden change.

Surrounding them were murmurs of casual chatter as they dissolved into a moment of silence. It seemed as if he didn't pay much heed to her vocal expression, or rather lack thereof, towards his new appearance. To that, she couldn't help but unintentionally release a silent sigh of relief as she couldn't possibly imagine having to justify herself by stating that she was admiring his profound beauty. While it may have appeared as if she was meeting someone new, someone unknown to her, she took a moment to look beyond the shell of his appearance. While he hadn't done much to prove to her that he really was the Finn she knew, except call out to her, the odd sense of comfort and belonging that not many had made her feel, was still present. Granted that it didn't make much sense, nor did she know how truthful the man before her was in claiming his identity, she chose to believe him. It would be rather safe to say that she wanted to believe him.

However, as she looked at him, staring into those golden orbs with curiosity and surprise, he averted his gaze, leaving her to stare at the man before her. He appeared to be so distraught and detached from the present situation which made her wonder just what had happened to him. The Finn, who usually seemed relatively confident and engaged whenever he was with her, appeared to be quite the opposite. She guessed that the situation was just as surprising to him, as it was to her. For a moment, she simply watched him as he traced along the surface of the table, not meeting her eyes that searched him for answers. Instead, she just listened as he let out a small laugh with words, clearly implying what his own thoughts about his looks were when she hadn't said anything. He moved his raven hair, pushing it over his head to reveal the string of tattoos that laced his forehead, blending into his skin.

When he finally met her gaze, the usual confidence and comfort she often saw was now missing. While she didn't know the details, she knew that the strange change had an impact on him. Perhaps she shouldn't have been as surprised because it was a rather usual occurrence after all. However, she was caught by surprise when he moved on to direct the conversation towards her with a deteriorating grin and an equally decaying willpower to carry a conversation. His words instantly brought up memories of this morning, which she stubbornly suppressed because she was here to be with him, not to talk about her frustrating work. Her lips pursed into a straight line and her eyebrows furrowed further, expressing her disdain. While she normally would have dropped it, waiting until he'd want to tell her himself, she couldn't find herself doing that this time. It wasn't simply because of curiosity anymore. It was because she didn't want to lose a friend that had managed to create a premise of comfort for her in such a short time.

The knight leaned forward, placing her elbows on the table while her chin rested on her palms. "Yeah, it is strange and weird, but in a good way I guess. You look quite fine to me but regardless of how you look, you're still Finn." She stared at him while her nose scrunched up slightly, expressing her subsequent sincerity, "So stop trying to change the topic and talk to me about it."

Perhaps a reason for her sudden straightforwardness was the rising need to know. She was well aware of the fact that she felt at ease around him. After all, she even told the precious secret regarding her knighthood which she had planned to take to her grave. In the end though, it really made her curious as to whether he had also felt just as comfortable around her. She wasn't in a position where she could force him to tell her everything but she merely wished that he'd confide in her enough as a friend. Her purple eyes stared right into his foreign, golden ones as she couldn't help but give him a smile. He looked like someone who needed a hug but at that moment, the best she could offer to him was a genuine smile.

Her words were comforting, a dismissal of his concerns in a way that seemed as though she had never even considered them. Her eyes had been willing to mingle with his own for as long as he was brave enough. Even when he had shied away, instead finding interest in the mundane around them, he felt her gaze resting upon him. Perhaps she was just drinking in his new appearance, but he didn't even consider that as an option. Rather to say, he didn't think anything of it at all. He had been too enraptured with his own worries to bother guessing what was on her head. She would tell him herself if she so wished; Or at least, that's how he assured himself.

Yet certainly enough, she had continued on. Beyond the simple act of giving him assurance, she boldly struck at the walls that he had placed between her and his problems. His eyes snapped back to her own which had never found their way off of him. He searched her gaze for any signs that she was asking out of duty or politeness, but what met him was a stern determination. He found himself surprised, and without even realizing it his lips curved upwards into a grin.

Beautiful indeed...

The memory of his awkward flattery from before crawled through his mind, but instead he addressed the matter at hand. "Right..." His voice, it seemed, hadn't quite gathered the courage he had willed for it to have. Clearing his throat and straightening up, his hands came together around his glass and he began to tell her the story.

There wasn't much to it, truth be told. He had come to Era in order to find out more about his blade, Durandal, which had been forged long before its old owner had ever wielded it. It had been tamed by Kings, but it had been created far before the dawn of such societies. In a dungeon about a quarter days walk from the city, Finn had found clues to the blades true power.

That truth, it seemed, had come at a cost. The blade reacted with whatever had been in that cave, forcing him to the ground in blinding agony. Then, before he knew it, his consciousness had faded away. From there he had dreamed, and while he didn't remember most of the visions, he remembered talk about the relics of a God of War, and ways in which to attain his power.

"It felt, well... Cliche, really. You hear stories of heroes being chosen by divine voices. Champions being brought up by beings far beyond comprehension. Yet, I didn't feel anything so sacred. It felt... Almost malicious?"

When he woke, he found his body altered greatly. While his strength and speed still remained, at least from his limited testing, it was still a drastic change. His center of balance had been thrown off, his weight distribution in general, his sense of depth; All of it was just slightly off. It would take time to adjust, time to relearn.

Then, a sigh from his lips. He smiled, looking as though a weight beyond words had been removed from his shoulders. "Thanks for that... For getting me out of my head." He laughed a little, feeling more relaxed than he had since arriving to Era. Almost as if at the peak of that emotional undulation, Finn decided to ride the wave and catch her off guard. Why not, right?

"And now you know why I've gone through my metamorphosis. What a start to our date, right? Your turn!"

The raw dejection that his diverted gaze had caused, disappeared within a fraction of a moment when his seemingly astonished eyes met her own. It looked as if he had been struck with a stroke of surprise once her words escaped her lips, causing him to dig out from the burrow he created for himself, full of contempt and worries. As she watched him do that, she couldn't put a halt to that feeling of elation she had felt and yet, she couldn't express it into words just yet; she simply didn't know how. Instead, she chose the alternative to silently watch, in slight amusement, as Finn's expression visibly shifted from being shy and dejected to surprised and ultimately, a grin appeared on his face as he showed signs of his true self through the tough exterior which had thrown both the individuals off the loop and brought a mayhem of confusion.

She observed as his morphed expressions changed into words, noting how even his hands, which had momentarily lost their reasoning and direction, returned and settled into one place as if they were no longer wandering aimlessly. He then fell into the cascade of his adventurous tale, which riveted her and drew her in. He spoke and she listened. That was all that had happened. While she listened, occasionally back-channeling a nod towards him as a mere gesture to let him know that she was listening, her hands wrapped around the warm mug that was stealthily placed on her table by the waitress without her knowledge. Her eyes, however, never left him. At this point, she had realized that there was something odd and intriguing about him, which always drew her gaze towards him, even before he had a vast change in his appearance. When he spoke, he simply exuded his character, dousing her remaining suspicion regarding his identity into belief that he truly was Finn.

However, as she listened to his adventure, comprising of tales of ancient heroes and a journey of despair, it appeared to have come right out of a fairy-tale. Yet, she believed it. Not simply because such legends were true but also because of the pure sentiment present in his voice. As he spoke, she couldn't help but feel dejected at the thought of his current tides of emotions at suddenly having lost his body and acquiring a new, foreign one. Moreover, the mere idea that he had been withering alone, in pair and confusion somehow made her sad. Her smile fell as he heard his admit the feeling to be rather malicious.

Regardless of how much time had passed, she still wasn't an admirable individual when it came to conversational skills. Perhaps, it was better for her to keep her mouth shut instead of saying something that could potentially distort his emotions further. Rather, she chose to abide by the principals of a strange rumor that she had never before tested and extended her hand to grab his own, only to realize it was wrapped around the glass. So instead, she gently, yet slightly awkwardly, patted the back of his hand. She had heard physical contact eased feelings of despondence so she simply tried it out.

She retreated her hand once she saw him visibly relax and thank her. The warm mug in her hand had lost it's heat as she brought it close to her lips, taking a small sip before putting it down. She had eased a little, only to then be caught off-guard by the words that left Finn's mouth. For a moment, she couldn't hide her surprise as her eyes slightly widened while she looked at him but she soon engulfed that with a small laugh.

"Are you saying I'm on a date with a chosen hero? I feel honored." She accompanied her humorous comment with a slight bow before taking another sip of her coffee and leaning back with a thoughtful look on her face.

"Hmm, as for me...It's nothing as adventurous as your journey but", she let out a sheepish grin, "I did get yelled at by my superior his morning." It was quite wild to think that barely half an hour ago, she would have sighed in annoyance upon recalling that but now she didn't. She couldn't help but voice out her thoughts, "It's safe to say you've made the day better."

She didn't continue further unless he interrogated because she wasn't confident she could keep these feelings of frustration towards the Rune Knights to herself. While she did want to tell him, she was skeptical simply because she hadn't sorted out her own emotions yet. Neither did she want anyone else to have an impact on her thoughts so she decided to direct the conversation elsewhere. "So Mr.Hero, enough about what already happened. What do you plan to do today?"

Her responses seemed so natural, yet they hit with the impact of having been specially crafted just for him. Her voice was teasing, and the girl who thought herself to be a miserable conversationalist had found a way to wrap him around her finger. Spoke of the date in a sarcastic way, even referring to him as "Mr. Hero", before continuing on in a fashion that confirmed it as being somewhat of a date. Perhaps he had looked too far into her response in order to find what he was looking for, but the thought that he was wrong had drifted from his purview.

Instead, it had been replaced with a sense of elation. Her brief touch upon her own morning had refocused his attention, making him pay attention to her earlier plight. However, while he wanted to press and find out more, it seemed she was not yet ready to discuss it in any sort of detail. Better, it seemed, to press on by turning her attention back to the present. Offering him a compliment and a wry smile that did its best to look cheerful, he found himself drawn into it despite knowing it had been a trap. She wished to divert his attention from her morning, and it was at least temporarily successful.

She turned a question back to him, inquiring what the future of his day held in store for him. Maybe, just maybe, she was wondering if the man had put her into his plans. Finn looked at her for a moment before breaking out into a light chuckle, tongue pressing at the corner of his lower lip and eyes darting to the side. It seemed he found himself defeated in a competition that she may not have even been sure she was playing.

His eyes found their way back to hers and his fingertips pressed together a little harder, reminding themselves of the beverage between his palms. He leaned forward a little, his hair falling over itself and partially in his face. It had been something he hated over the past twenty four hours, but now he found himself not even acknowledging its presence.

"I meant it, you know." His words were serious, of course, enough so to change the mood of their table. Yet there was something about his face; The way his lips arched upwards, the way he smiled with his eyes and his breath visibly hung in the air, that added a sense of ease to his demeanor. "You're absolutely beautiful, Xandra."

Finn, the awkward young man, was something of the past. He still had his moments, that much was for sure, but no longer was he the bumbling fool that he once was. No longer were his own emotions so foreign to him, to the point that he could neither properly share them nor keep them under check in some form or another. He was finally a man, or at least adult enough to create a conversation like this in a way that didn't make it feel as though his heart were about to explode out of his chest.

At most, it felt as if it had lodged itself in his throat. He was nervous, he was simply now mature enough to ignore it and to hide the weakness from his voice.

"And since you're already tired of being back at headquarters, and I already have gotten a tan it seems," he said, trying to joke about his still mildly uncomfortable transformation, "How about you and I go to Crocus? I heard that King Reign himself is going to be hosting a ball to thank mages and warriors alike for their help with the crisis' that have plagued Fiore over the past year, especially the most recent. Would you be my date?"

With a slight pause, but before she could respond, he spoke up as though to clarify. "As in, an actual date? With me?"

He had still had some maturation to go.

The atmosphere around them elated as his dejected aura lifted, revealing his usual persona. A part of her was worried about the longevity of his current expression but much to her relief, it remained the same and showed no signs of changing. A smile adorned her face as she realized that perhaps she had managed to lift his spirits; she wanted to give herself at least that much credit.
Taking a sip of the coffee, it appeared that she had made it rather obvious that she did not wish to push further upon the happenings of her morning. However, that was where the internal conundrum occurred. She found a part of herself feeling relieved upon noticing that he did not strive for curiosity and yet, she was slightly dismayed by the very same fact for some reason, unknown to her. Her clashing emotions momentarily showed up on her face, only to be immediately buried down in confusion as she regained her smile. Maybe, he simply wasn’t curious. Either that or he purposefully diverted the conversation away, which was something she would have done too.

Shaking herself out of those thoughts, she looked back at him, awaiting a response. Instead, she was met with a small chuckle as he drifted his gaze away for a fleeting moment. Although she had slightly worried for a brief relapse into the state of dispirited confusion, the ease in his demeanour turned out to be surprisingly contagious. She too, found herself relaxing at the sight of the man before her. With her elbows rested on the table, the tips of her fingers slid over the rim of the cup in her hands as she enjoyed the calmness of the short silence that befell upon them. The silence was broken by the man sitting across her, in a manner that had caught her off-guard.

There was an obvious and riveted seriousness that lurked in his tone as he leaned towards the table. She couldn’t help but be slightly surprised at that but resorted to listening closely while she wondered what his words had meant. She took a brief moment to drink in his new appearance yet again. While it was still something she hadn’t completely grasped, she was getting used to it at an oddly quick pace. She listened intently, waiting for what was to come next as her own purple eyes gazed into his golden ones, which peeked through the messy, yet soft raven hair that fell on his forehead.

What came next however, was something that had surprised her a lot more than it should have. She hadn’t expected it at all and it was visibly seen on her face. A sudden realization crossed across her face as his words now made sense. Xandra was immediately reminded of their first encounter in a while, back in Orchidia. Then too, he had called her beautiful, but she had merely brushed it off as nothing more than a friendly compliment. This time though, she couldn’t find herself doing that. Her mind wandered, questioning if it was indeed, nothing more than a benevolent praise.

For the first time since that morning, her gaze subconsciously diverted away from him as she found herself looking towards the side, only to glance at him from the corner of her eye. Although she didn’t want to admit it, she was slightly flustered. The sudden compliment and the subsequent memory of the past had managed to fluster her. She pursed her lips together, in an attempt to mask her fluttering insides. The corner of her lips, however, did slightly rise before she realized.

Luckily, it seemed that he wasn’t expecting an answer or reply, which she didn’t give regardless. He quickly moved onto joke about her pre-existing exhaustion because of the Rune Knights and his own, fun little change before proceeding to suggest they head to crocus. The Bellan had heard about the ball, obviously. News travelled far and wide to reach the ears of people across Fiore as it sparked the interest of many and also raised several doubts, questioning if it was truly a good idea to invite all mages present within the country. To be honest, she did partially agree but she hadn’t been interested enough in the situation as a whole to bother thinking too much about it.

Before giving her the chance to reply, he reiterated his own statement, asking her to go on an ‘actual’ date with him. Perhaps it was for the best that he clarified that because the knight was close to assuming that he simply wanted a partner for the ball. Much to her own surprise, she wasn’t uncomfortable or bothered in such a situation. Rather, she found her heart fluttering in excitement. The ball that she didn’t particularly care about was now something to look forward to.

A grin laced her face, “Let’s go on a date to the ball then. We both could use a well-deserved break.” The happenings of the morning were completely forgotten by the woman, so much that it served as a shock to herself. A situation that she would have avoided usually was now one that she jumped into willingly. It was quite unexpected for her. She, herself, knew that she wouldn’t have done so if it had been anyone else who had asked her. She agreed because it was Finn. She couldn’t help but chuckle at herself. It appeared to her that she thought of him much more than she had assumed.

“So, when do we leave?”

Tenshi †
Finn had discovered one of the most difficult challenges he'd had in years; Attempting to stay on track when he was witnessing Xandra's reactions to his words. The way she diverted her face to the side, an attempt to force her gaze away from him only to have her eyes wander back to his own and begin tracing over his new appearance. Was it her way of trying to see whether he was being honest? Or the way her lips pursed, drawing his attention to them for the briefest of moments and seeing them curve upwards in a restrained smile. Was it her way of trying to hide her feelings on the matter?

Regardless of her intent, she was acting in a way that was absolutely adorable. He felt his heart begin to pound, and luckily he finished before he felt his words divert from their intended course. This was a first for him, and despite her physical reactions that made him think she may have reciprocated the interest, he found himself riddled with anxiety. How would she answer? He'd be fine even if she declined his invitation, or so he thought. Yet every time he considered the possibility of denial, he felt his heart stoop into his stomach.

He was so entranced by her actual appearance that the subtle answers her body gave him were lost in translation. He had not noticed her body lean into his words, or her fingers occupy themselves in a nervous dance along her beverage. He hadn't noticed her own flushed cheeks, or her surprised yet happy amusement at his words. Even then, as she grinned and prepared to respond, he didn't look into the meaning behind her actions. Rather, he found himself realizing that she had invaded his thoughts since their time in Baska. Ever since he saw her, silhouetted against the window, his spare time became increasingly filled with daydreams.

And those daydreams culminated into this.

She agreed, in a way that was so much like her that it forced a smile and a laugh from him before she'd even finished talking. He sounded relieved, and realized that he had been holding his breath without noticing. His mind races at a million miles per second, yet it felt like a serene static that was culminated in the feeling of relief.

And as she asked when they should go, he felt himself jutted back into the present moment with the realization that this was all happening. "Lets travel this weekend so we can get there in time to enjoy it. I'm-" he paused, but the pause seemed almost as though it were to catch his breath once more. His face relaxed, a his lips curled upwards into a natural smile so sincere that even his eyes reflected it. This was the happiest he'd been since his return to Fiore, many moons ago.

"I'm really looking forward to it."

Xandra had completely forgotten about the essence of time as it ticked past, waiting for no one. Nothing had changed. The diner, still bustling with people, had individuals come and go after finishing their meals. The two individuals however, were too caught up in their own little world to notice their surroundings. It was as if she had automatically drowned out all sounds to focus all her attention to him, silently observing all his actions and expressions. She found it oddly fun to do so as she had noticed that Finn never tried to mask his feelings beneath his expressions. He was peculiarly honest with displaying how he felt through his body and it was, frankly speaking, quite amusing. The Bellan thought that perhaps because she could put a label to his feelings and in return, manage to control her own. Much to her dismay, she was quite wrong.

While he looked at her with an anxious expression, his eyes quivering as they wondered her response, she couldn't help but ride along the tides of the atmosphere. Her heartbeat had quickened as her fingers nervously caressed the smooth container of her beverage. She was feeling nervous under his expectant gaze but strangely enough, it wasn't uncomfortable. It had felt as if her heart was dancing in excitement, perhaps because of the anticipation for the upcoming ball or the fact that she would be attending it with him. The Finn, with whom she normally feels this warm sense of comfort and peace, was now making her experience other emotions which she rarely found herself engulfed in.

Once she had given her answer however, his face immediately morphed into a smile that stretched all the way to his eyes which gleamed with sincere joy. At this point, she couldn't help but stare at him in admiration as he spoke, pausing for a moment to catch his breath before continuing. At the beginning of the day, she had admired his beauty while not knowing that he was Finn. From an objective perspective, he was truly a  handsome man. But now, she found herself awestruck to an extent that her thoughts became cloudy. He was indeed beautiful, perhaps more so than the first time she had seen him. The more she watched him, the more enraptured she had become. The words that left his lips or the way his eyes squinted slightly as he smiled, they were all alluring beyond words.

Despite thinking that her fast-paced heart-rate was a momentary phenomenon, she was succumbing to the fact that it might last a lot longer than she had hoped. However, she didn't mind. The jittery feeling she had felt was far from displeasing. She could no longer associate Finn to the simple word of comfort because he was now, so much more than that.

Shaking herself out of the daze, she moved her hand to rest it under her chin. "The weekend sounds good." The back of her mind itched with thoughts about work that she still had left but they were easily ignored. She didn't want to think about anything else, at least not when he was in front of her.

"I bet we'll have the time of our lives." And indeed, that was what she had hoped.
