Kenzo walked through the forests surrounding Magnolia that morning. It was a rather cold day, so few people were on the streets of the eastern city. Kenzo had heard the night before from a drunkard at the local bar that there was a large mine near the outskirts of the village, close to a mountain that surrounded Magnolia’s forest. According to the man, who according to himself was one of the town’s best smiths, a new cavern had been discovered in the mountain. Word went that there was an ancient metal located deep inside, with which one could forge incredible weapons and armor. Intrigued by the rumors, Kenzo had decided to take a look around and see what it was about. However, as he made his way closer to the entrance of the cavern, he noticed a crowd had already gathered outside. Walking towards it, the blue haired mercenary noticed that a group of Rune Knights was prohibiting everyone from entering. As he got close, he heard a familiar voice coming out of the crowd. ”Oi! Kenzo! It’s me, Barras. From yesterday at the bar!” The warrior looked around and noticed last night’s drinking buddy coming towards him. “Come with me, I’ve got some info to tell you.” The large man took him a couple of steps away to the crowd before speaking once again. ”I was right on the money.” Barra’s eyes glistened and his face visibly started showing excitement as he spoke. ”Remember what I told you yesterday? There REALLY is something awesome hiding inside this mine. There’s no other reason the Rune Knights would have gotten so early over here unless they were trying to protect something.” Kenzo placed his hand on his chin before speaking for the first time. ”That actually does sound interesting… Go on”

Barra left out an excited chuckle. ”I knew you would be interested in something like this. After all, you seem like someone that appreciates high quality equipment. I’m telling you, if I could get my hands on just a single piece of that ore I would be able to create a sword or armor far stronger than anything I’ve ever done before!” He rose his clenched fist to the air as he worked himself up. Kenzo couldn’t help but half smile at the man’s determination. ”That would certainly be something I’d be interested on seeing.” Barra’s demeanor suddenly changed as he turned directly at Kenzo and lowered his head while pressing both of his open palms together. ”Please! You have to get inside the cavern and look for the ore I’m talking about. I’ll make sure to pay you generously if you manage to bring me a piece. It is quite easy to spot too. It looks like a solid blue rock that has a natural flowing effect to it. Some have described its appearance as if it was a fabled etherian substance..”

Kenzo stopped to think for a moment before giving his answer. He would need to do something about those rune knights first though. There was no way they were letting him inside while the crowd started increasing at the entrance. However, he had an idea. Confidently, Kenzo shook Barra’s hand as he gave him his answer. ”Just leave it to me. I hope the sword you make with it will make it worth my time…” ”Really??! Thank you! Thank you! I promise. I’ll pay you more than enough for the mineral, but the sword that I’ll forge will be one of the best works you have ever seen in your life. That I can guarantee on my honor as a weaponsmith!”

Kenzo certainly admired the man’s self-esteem. He had muttered strong declarations. Now it was only a matter of time to see if he delivered on them or not. However, Kenzo still needed to complete the quest he had been assigned first. After agreeing with Barra that he’d deliver the mineral later at night, Kenzo sprung into action. He needed a distraction to enter the mine after all. Sneaking around was going to be quite hard without one. Even so, Kenzo had the perfect plan for it. A couple hundred of meters away, he started a fire with wet wood and branches. The fire would never catch on, being soaked in the moist from what was supposed to be its fuel. However, a fireplace like this one would create a lot of smoke. Enough to make the guards alert and need to go to investigate.

As expected, they fell completely for the bait. Seeing the tower of smoke rising from the forest, most of the crowd instantly panicked. Chaos ensued and the rune knights lost any semblance of crowd control and ability to stop the mayhem from spreading. They were clearly pages within the organization. Their inexperience was more than evident. When fear also took control of them, the rune knights decided to go to the source of the fire while people ran away for their lives. When the last of the knights left the entrance of the cavern, Kenzo sneaked inside with a smile on his face. ”Piece of cake.” As the light of the exterior began fading the closer he went into the entrance, Kenzo took a look back at the skies before entering the darkness. Someone else would have taken advantage of the lack of guards to improvise or get a torch in order to see inside the cavern, but Kenzo didn’t need one. He confidently entered the place as he whistled a song, he had heard the night before.

With each step he took, the dim rays of the exterior extinguished one by one. After a short while of walking, it was now completely pitch dark. It would be hard for even people adapted to poorly lit environments to navigate through the rocks and crevices of the cavern without a light source. It was ridiculous for someone to try and find an ore without getting a source of light before. Kenzo didn’t need one though. He had been favored by the sun and the source was within him. After all, he was a day walker. Amidst complete darkness, the blue haired mercenary muttered a sentence. ”Praise the Sun.”

Little by little, a bright aura surrounded the swordsman. It was as if a star had been born inside the cavern, illuminating ever crevice of the mountain as if it was a sunny day. This made Kenzo’s work simply easier. Making his way through the rocky maze without a problem, Kenzo found that some parts of the cavern had crumbled and blocked the path. Carefully, the blue haired warrior cleared the place with his hands and continued walking. At one point, he found a large central area. The path split into three, and there was no knowing which one to take. However, thanks to the strength of the light that he irradiated; each path was completely revealed to him. Noticing both the first and second options led to a dead end, he decided to try first with the third one. Clearing yet another collapse, the male eventually found the substance he was looking for. Gathering a small sample, he made his way out of the cavern and into Magnolia. Finding Barras, he delivered the glowing substance with a smile. ”I expect this to be more than enough proof of its existence right?” Barras nodded and handed him his reward. ”I’ll come back later to see that sword you’ll make”
