The sun was high in the sky on the beautiful springtime morning, nary a cloud in sight of the magnificent Domus Flau: an arena as old as the capital city itself. Built at the summit of a nearby mountain the Domus had stood idle, only being used for the occasional fight between training mages looking to strengthen their own abilities. Never before has it been used for something as grand as the event today. The Grand Magic Games: a tournament featuring every guild in Fiore. A chance for every guild mage to showcase their abilities, and the strength of their guild. Every seat was occupied, as the public waited for the first fight to begin. The arena itself, a circle of 100 meters diameter with marble flooring, was watched over by four warriors: Hercales, Shaka Zulu, Miyamoto Musashi and Beowulf. Four of the legendary Nine Heroes, each with their glorious weapon immortalised in stone beside them, eager to bare witness to the power of Fiore. Both contestants will be instructed to walk towards the center of the ring, stopping in their tracks once both are an equal distance from the center and 15m apart. The fight will then be started via the sound of a blast from the referee. "Akihiko Sterling, Enforcer of Sentinel Syndicate, and our only participant from the Fairy Tail guild, a newbie known as Steel, a man looking to become a hero. Despite their differences in experience, there’s no way to know who will win. Is Steel’s giant form just for show, or does he know how to fight as well? And will Akihiko even give him the chance to show us? We can’t say for sure, we can only bare witness to the battle about to begin." |
Akihiko Sterling vs. Steel

Steel walked slowly towards the center of the arena waving to the crowd as he slowly passed forward. He did a small show attacking the air with a few trained swings just like a martial artist would before entering the ring. He stopped in his tracks about halfway there and wiped the sweat from his brow caused by the heat of the moment and some underlying nervosity. He had to steel himself. He thought of all the things he had done up to this point. Would this be his breakthrough? He felt a pressure. He wanted to win.
Upon reaching the 15m mark he raised his voice “I hope that we will have a good match, And that we play fair.” He then readied his sword raising it up so that he could quickly attack or counter depending on what the other contestant decided to do.
He then waited for the sounding of the start of the match.

As he approached the entrance of the Domus Flau loud, cheerful hurrahs could be heard from the stands. The audience was fired-up and Akihiko soaked that shit right up. Step by step, he could feel the beating sun against the back of his neck. The announcer had just finished introducing his opponent, a mage from Fairy Tail who stood fifteen meters from the center of the arena. Akihiko glanced at the cloudless sky then let out a sigh of frustration once he reached the fifteen meter mark. “I really do hate warm weather.” he said to himself.
His opponent seemed rather perky, a perfect attitude to have given the circumstances. Might as well have fun with this meaningless fight. “BANG!” the referee’s gun shot off to signal the start of the match. Akihiko reacted swiftly, already beginning to run towards his opponent with his steel sword by his side. It wouldn’t be long before he would encounter him – as he firmly gripped his blade and assumed a sha no kamae position.
“Flash Step.”
A small, yellow magic seal appeared beneath his feet and Akihiko instantly dashed five meters out attempting to cut his opponents hamstrings. Regardless of the outcome, he quickly faced his opponent and readied himself for the next move.

If the attack would not hit, Steel would then step to the side so that his enemy’s strike would miss, then he would kick his enemy in the side and activate one of his magic spells to push himself back away from his enemy. Landing five meters behind where his position was before kicking his enemy. He would then ready himself again so that if his enemy would lunge at him again he could counter him with his sword once again.

He remained on guard and alert. Akihiko was no fool and didn’t plan on becoming one today. "Never underestimate your enemy.” he reminded himself. He created some distance between them both – moving back about five meters from where he had struck Steel. After such a blow, he’d be lucky to even walk but Akihiko wasn’t new to surprises.

Shoot me if i'm wrong, but I believe that Steel wrongfully assumed that my character was going to move past him. Since he didn't specifically call out where I was positioned, and I said I was moving towards him, it's safe to say that I was dashing towards Steel.
With that being said, I dashed five meters out but on the right side of Steel. He's still during this time, since he was reacting to my character "dashing past him". Now, he also mentioned stepping to the side to avoid my "strike" (a strike that never ended up happening in the first place), but didn't specify where. I made it so that he stepped to his right, directly in my sword's line of vision - therefore slashing him.

You're running towards Steel, and then must take the position as described in your spell, as well as grip your sword. While gripping the hilt of your weapon does not require you to come to full stop, taking on that position would.

You state the spell, and then dash forward. At this point, you would have had to angle yourself in the direction you were going to go somewhat. This would mean that Steel could, theoretically, notice that your center of gravity is to his side, rather than directly at him.
Steel, post #4
Steel wrote:His opponent started running towards him. Steel braced himself and held his weapon so that whenever they would clash he would be able to react instantly. The closer his enemy came the more intense Steel’s concentration became. When his enemy got into his sword stance Steel was ready to counter in any possible way.
Steel's sword is already in front of him, ready to react. He's not preparing an attack specifically, just preparing himself to try and move based on what you do. Akihiko then comes to a full stop before initiating his dash.
Steel wrote:“Flash Step.” A magic seal appeared beneath his enemies feet and he moved fast at lunge speed towards Steel. Steel noticed that his enemy had the intent to go past him and so he placed his weapon so that when his enemy would move past him he would impale himself on Steel’s splendid sword.
Steel is already holding his sword out in front of him. I think that the idea of him being able to move his sword so that you run into it is feasible in this case, as it's not like you were full run, then last second change your angle ever so slightly and dash past him. Keep in mind that Steel's sword, held at the ready, does not get moved until the dash is commencing. You form the circle and begin to push off the ground, and then Steel drops his weapon to try and catch your momentum.
Akihiko, you never state how far out you are when you dash, but due to the fact that you're wishing to slice his hamstring and then would need to quickly face your opponent again, so you are certainly dashing past him. The max range of the dash is 5m, and your lunging speed at this point in time is 7.5m/s. I'd have to believe that you're doing this dash at around the 4m or 4.5m mark, as your character is showing clear signs of wishing to engage in a melee battle.
So then that would give Steel over half a second to hurriedly drop his sword, aimed to intercept your dash (which a convenient lightning trail is illuminating its trajectory), thus impaling you on his blade.
Considering his strength right now give him 121 strength, due to his earrings and sword, the blade would do S rank damage. This would cut through the armor, dealing A rank damage to your body. With a constitution of 1, or B rank, this impalement would render you unconscious.
Steel is the victor.

He felt his heart almost jump out of his chest as the adrenaline storm came. He clenched the handle of his sword. His hands were shaking and the rest of his body slowly started shaking as well. And then all of it vanished. His body understood that he had won. The referee looked at him and then came over to him. “Hey lift your arm up kid you won.” Steel snapped out of it and repositioned himself so that he looked at the civilians and mages sitting in the stands.
He raised his sword up in a one armed he-man type position. The crowds cheered. The referee declared him the winner to all the people who were watching. Steel then turned over to his slumped over opponent. It seemed as if he had regained consciousness again so Steel walked over to him and stretched his arm out so that he could help him up and whether it was accepted or not he would follow up with a few words. “That was a good match. I hope that we will fight each other again in the future.”
Steel then turned around and walked out of the arena with his sword raised to the heavens. The crowd cheered all the while as he left the stage.

While still applying pressure to his wound, Akihiko leaned up and watched as the crowd applauded and cheered for the Fairy Tail mage. As the victor approached him, Akihiko quickly wiped the remaining tears off his face. He stretched out his hand to help Akihiko to his feet and then said a few words. “That was a good match. I hope that we will fight each other again in the future.” Steel said as he lifted him up.
“Yeah…sure,” Akihiko said confusingly.
There was something off about the kid, but Akihiko was intrigued to say the least. Steel left the scene with his sword held high as the crowd cheered him off one last time. Medics came rushing from every direction to aid Akihiko.
Exit.
