After his recent callout to help being rather easy, at most requiring the young man to be innovative and at worst straining him in the sun, this round wasn't so easy.

With the main manager having made complete recovery and the rest of the actors rejoiced to see their trusty leader once again back in action, it was high time to call upon the resident Blue Pegasus wizard to help out once again. This time with a request rather similar to one he had already experienced, that is, helped out with; and to that extent, said manager went and fetched the very same famous actor he went to host a couple of quests back. The feminine man naturally wasn't too hyped about visiting some cheap inn in the middle of the city, what with his own quarters being highly expensive and of particularly high class. But dire times call for drastic actions, and as such, both found themselves in the Sinese' inn room, much to our 'hero's dismay yet again.

Honestly, he was getting tired of seeing the same faces over and over, and last time was a nice breath of fresh air, one he had welcomed very much so. Though it was true that this man alone, was responsible for his income as of late, and with that in mind, he could at least not play the stupid card and hear him out. What's more, he has helped with the theater enough by now to know its structures well, both physically and systematically. He knew how things worked by this point, and was confident he could substitute for any given job should he be recalled upon it. What came up however couldn't be anything he's done before, what with Gerard present in the room. And so the objective was dropped eventually, in the form of -- guarding duty. Again.

Unlike previous times where his services were questionably required at best and futilely used at worst, this time appeared to be no joke. The leading actor had recognized Jan Ren's reliability when it came to pulling through with the request at least, several times; and had wanted to borrow his strength no matter what. In this specific request, he wasn't simply asked, but rather begged; his help was actually required. Between standing guard for over a week on a rooftop for nothing and proving his worth in saving that very same Gerard's life from an assailant, the two had arrived at the conclusion that leaving it to this Blue Pegasus mage would be the wise choice.

So what exactly did they need him to do so direly?

In this instance, it appears that unbeknownst to the young mage, as while he was recooperating from a certain dagger assault, someone in the theater was targetted and, unfortunately, killed. Looking for a fill-in aside, this was an immediate problem that had to be dealt with. Making sure the theater runs as is was important, but this was undoubtedly threatening to the whole business. People had already caught wind of the assault, and if the threater stops functioning because of this, all their work through this past two months was for naught.

This is obviously where Jan Ren comes in. He was to locate the assailant, now knowing for a fact they're out there; potentially find out what they're after, attacking the actors, and hand them over to the Rune Knights. If this could be solved peacefully, it was still preferred to take the rougher route, seeing how one of their own men was taken out. Naturally the Sinese wasn't too much into attacking people, let alone having to find them first. But assured resources from the actor Gerard, he understood and took the job.

The search ensued. The Sinese had accounted for the assailant not to attack when the performance is up, as that wasn't the case last time; but rather after, late at night. These attacks seemed to happen frequently at dark hours, naturally so as few would be outside to tell of it. Very basic principles. This meant, he had to stay out at night. But how could he track the attacker if he didn't know who the next target was or why were they targetted? And so, he began looking into the victim's background. Not quite the talented detective, but for some reason confident in his deduction skills; the young man got to work.

First off mobilizing his 'subordinates', Jan Ren had called upon the gang of sixteen he had come to trust so since his pseudo-fight with a certain brunette huntress. They would keep watch over the actors for a short while, whilst he was to look into this victim's background. There really wasn't much to learn that showed she would be targetted; a regular, run-of-the-mil girl, in her late twenties simply acting for fun and working part-time as a waitress in a certain restaurant. No notably dark backgrounds that could be used as a basis for attack, though through some rumors the Sinese had heard that she used to date a member of the Rune Knights.

This on itself, was an all-too obvious hint at a direction. Unfortunately, the Sinese was rather anxious having to deal with the Knights, despite having to reach out to them for some help. That said, would they even give him personal information on a random girl, while he's on the job? They could just take it from him. It was necessary for the request, and with little choice left, Jan made his way to pay the Knights a visit.

Anxiety obviously took over as this would be the first time Jan as a guild mage, went to contact this organization of his own volition. Despite his guild's good overall reputation, a certain feeling that he could be apprehended any moment took over. Even though he gave them absolutely no reason initially, to suspect as such. His body language on the other hand, turned out to be his downfall, as while discussing with the inspectors, the Sinese turned more suspicious with his discomfort; as if he had a reason to feel uneasy, surely he was hiding something. And so the young man was taken in for questioning. Great. Just his luck, the one thing he was afraid of that would develop. It would be no time before he's put in prison forever!!

Luckily, that's not how things went. And whoever came to affirm of the guild wizard's innocence, was Gerard himself. That feminine, possibly gay, stuck-up actor, appeared in the station himself to confirm of this man's request and intentions, and with short clearing up, the young man was allowed to see the requested files. Naturally, Gerard claimed that his debt was now paid, granting a playful wink and a less than welcome... Spank, to bid his farewell.

Back on topic; the file hadn't listed much after all. At first, Jan thought this was all for nothing again, what with his won gang of thugs being on watch duty outside and himself quartering himself up to research some mundane girl. The Knight she used to date had retired thanks to injury, and she took care of him for a long while; as it turns out, he never got back to service, and things turned ugly between the two. This means... The man in question was now a suspect as well. Drat. More questioning.

Paying the man a visit was unfortunately, just as unfruitful. Bringing up the deceased actress' name brought a scowl, but hearing she was dead didn't do him any favors. Jan was quickly kicked out of the house with little information given, despite his professional facade granted. This was, the previous Knight's home after all, and he had no business barging in. It didn't strike him as too weird, but just in case, the young Sinese had decided to put at least one or two of his men by the guy's house to keep watch. Not too far, but obviously not too close. Undoubtedly, he'd see it as troublesome.

His guesses were, once again, wrong; as almost in impeccable a timing, a shadowy figure appeared to reach out to one of the other actors, attempting to kill them with what seemed like a shadowy dagger. Fortunately, Jan's brand of gangsters were capable enough to at least run away in high time before any significant damage was done. And through quick networking, the Sinese was notified; rushing to the area as quickly as he possibly could. He'd managed to catch wind of this unknown attacker, right before they made their escape.

...

Short work was done. Despite being skilled in assassination and being quick on their feet, Jan gained the upper hand. Unable to determine the motive, seeing no connection between this actor and the deceased actress, it was now obvious that the threater was in danger. More to come, without question. Regardless, the Sinese had at least tried to question this stranger, and upon learning of the futilety of his efforts, reluctantly handed the assassin to the Rune Knights for proper handling. Yet despite being generously paid for his efforts, something didn't sit right with him.

It's as if this story wasn't quite over yet, there were many loose ends left to explore. But... That wasn't his job now, was it?
