Jolyne Atreides

The name of the game for today Jolyne Atreides had decided, was training up a fresh batch of spells for the garden of her capabilities. To expand her magical knowledge of her class and element, to reach for new heights even further than the woman had climbed thus far. The undead Lich would have to achieve even more with her magic as she often found herself relying on her clunky melee abilities in combat. While she could move well she still lacked the training only combat with a worthy opponent could bring to her with any sort of weapon. Her first priority would be adding a solid debuff to her arsenal to utilize as a stop gap for her current state and probably later disregard once she had grown even stronger. Reflecting on the nature of her spells, the Plant Mage wondered if she could use the magic of growth to fuel a sapping of another's abilities. Due to her magic's inherent nature Jolyne opted for choosing strength as it would help the binding effect that was built in to any sort of debuffing spell she cast. While it was useful, the Paladin often found herself casting more heals and relying on her equipment's abilities rather than her natural born talent. Still it was useful to lean in to one's specialties, as such the Lich wondered if she could craft a fast growing sort of bean sprout. One that would simply sprout and grow no further sapping the physical might of anyone caught in the area of effect. It would be a useful spell in blocking the movement of an individual, or small group that was weaker than her. This was especially true if she used her fear effect as well. An innate ability of Lichdom that she rarely used.

Simply pointing to a direction bore fruit to her endeavor as the spell circles would light up a ghastly green upon her body. It was like some form of glowing glyphs imprinted upon her very bones. The sight was one that Jolyne Atreides had gotten used to, and as such she found it rather comforting when it happened. A similar glow would light up ten meters away from her, directly in the spot she pointed at. The result of her efforts was a tiny rounded grove, four meters across, would spring forth from the soil below where the glow had once been. With the results of a successful cast, like any good scientist, the skeleton would repeat the process a few times to make sure her evidence from the studies were correct. It was extremely necessary to utilize the repetition from this process to ensure the success of such a spell in combat. The Lich would be damned if she was caught flat footed with the mana wasted on some faulty spell that either did not work, or had an effect she did not desire. Luckily there was no need for a test subject, the undead woman's inherent magic told her of the success. The grove's size, though still smaller than desirable, prompted Jolyne to think of perhaps adding an area of effect to heal emanating from herself. Such a spell could prove quite useful if she was fighting with allies and foes in close range combat. This was partially due to the fact that she would bake in the idea that since the spell started with herself, it should affect her too. As such she could heal her side of the scuffle, while leaving her enemies out in the bitter cold. It was the Fairy Tale way to defend her friends after all.

Holding up her arms as she would normally do while in close combat, the undead skeleton would abruptly and overdramatically lower them as spell circles lit up upon her. This casting prompted a green wave of energy to erupt from her that shot out to a distance of four meters. Not only would anything in the wave be captured but anything within four meters of her, as usual her spells were a bit of illusion at least for the effects. The true nature of her magic was in the air itself as the energy erupted from her seals when they were cast. The 'physical' aspects were often just for show as was the light ring that she used several times before prompting herself to rest for now. It simply would not do for the undead to expand all her mana in an effort to rush training, especially while along. Her previous learnings had taught her that slow, steady, and solo was the way to go for her. Instead of beating herself to death with others in psuedo combat, she would learn insight into her spells. Jolyne Atreides would think them out, and visualize them in her mind. The philosophy of a spell and it's proper usage interested the Plant Mage far more than trying it out on someone she thought of as a friend...just in case. The Lich did not care to think about what would happen if she accidentally had an argument with someone and thought of them as a foe. Such a thing would cause her to harm someone who she meant to protect, and the idea of such a thing concerned her far more than most other ordeals. Instead she would endeavor to hone her mind so that even if she truly got angry at a friend, she would never hate them as she could a foe.

Bearing this in mind the Lich would attempt to replicate the effects of the spell twice more and was successful at each of the twin attempts. Pleased with herself, Jolyne would think of how best to utilize such a spell in short range combat and decided it was best to help damage enemies or prepare allies either directly before or a bit after her volcanic armor exploded. While not desirable to have any friend in range when the plate armor would crack from an opponent's blow, this could help make up for the friendly...fire...as it were. The next thing that the skeletal woman wanted to add to her arsenal, would be some spell that would allow her to achieve the gift of flight. It would be best to be able to move at her running speed without build up and also avoid pitfalls, not to mention how satisfying it would be to mock those who could not fly while in battle. Spraying a foe from above who could not get to you is always an enjoyable time if one is not on the receiving end. Although her vines could help her claw someone out of the sky, she needed to try these actions out for herself one day. It would be useful for her to utilize an ability to become airborne for a plethora of reasons, so the next spell would center around that. Having decided it's goal, next was the composition of the spell itself. This was a process that could be either extremely time consuming or relatively straight forward. As usual, the essence of the magic itself was the workhorse for the effect of the spell but the aesthetics was something that Jolyne Atreides was a perfectionist for. A fight needed to be a bit fabulous after all.

Perhaps something from the Mushroom Kingdom would be light enough to fill the role set upon the ability by its creator. Jolyne Atreides had always been fascinated with how the phycobilin grew, formed, and seemed to be some sort of pseudo-hivemind. It was a nice reminder of the complex beauty of nature and the importance of preserving it, no matter the cost sometimes. After all once you lost an unique environment, often, it could not be brought back. This would mean some plant and animal life, along with so much more, would be lost forever except to the annals of time. Not being something the Lich desired to occur anymore in her deathtime, she had long ago endeavored herself towards the act of conserving nature. Getting back to refocusing upon her spells as opposed to her ideals, the woman would attempt the spell of flight a few times. While she did so, she would activate and deactivate the spell to ensure that when casting in the real world it would not drop out on her when she needed it. Instead Jolyne was most delighted to find out that she had formed it reliably and after a few more pushes with the scientific method, the woman had the spell in the bag. Her list ever expanding the Paladin was most excited to think up one last spell for the day before re-committing all the spells she had trained to memory. The Lich wanted her last spell to be something greater than those that came before it, her ace in the hole for now. This spell would no doubt have to be some form of healing spell but she would have to think of what. While Purple Haze was rather good at chasing a foe down, there was no sudden way of extending her range.

The sun hanged in the afternoon sky allowing the Lich to utilize it's fierce glow to illuminate her efforts on crafting with her magic. The day had gone well thus far and Jolyne was rather proud of herself for learning three new spells already, but she knew she had one left in her and this last one would be the best so far. The range had gotten her to think upon her vine spells, what if this time instead of a support spell she had one of healing. While she would probably use it on enemies, it would also be extremely useful to the Lich to have some form of longer distance healing than what she currently had as well. This spell could be a great expansion of her toolkit and allow her to keep chaining magic much longer than her mana would currently allow. That of course, reminded the woman to endeavor to work on expanding and enhancing her mana pool as well. This would in turn help Jolyne craft her magic even more gloriously, and with more ease than she had hence. It would be necessary to get stronger if she was to properly run the guild of Fairy Tale after Kazimir retired after all. While the woman did not know for certain when, she had a rather strong inkling that the man was rather sick of desk duty and dealing with intentionally created drama that seemed to land on his plate. Regardless of whatever happened in the future the Lich knew that more strength would have to well up inside of her if she were to rise to the challenge properly. Failure was not an option for her with the demands that she thrust upon herself, Jolyne was one who desired to continue climbing even if she ever reached the top.

Like all of her penultimate spells this would simply have to retain the purple glow after her green spell circles had sprouted upon her. It was an aesthetic choice that the vainglorious Lich simply wanted as a sort of signature for her bigger abilities whenever she went through the process of spellcraft. It was a small touch that allowed her list of spells to feel a bit more personal to herself, something that allowed her to think of how it was crafted originally. While it may have been a bit over the top or unnecessary, it pleased the Lich and that was something that she strove to do for herself. Satiating urges was just as important in undeath, as it was in life. Jolyne also figured she would make the magic this time out of ethereal sap, allowing it to pass through an opponent that was closer to her than the target which could help her corral her foe. The idea was tricking the opponent into not going through it to the other side and simply attacking her head on. Of course it helped that going through would harm a foe rather than just be a mild deterrent. While it was difficult going Jolyne finally got the shape and substance of how she wanted the spell to have down. Now it was a matter of getting the effect correct. While it usually was an easy stage for the skeleton, this time it was going to actually prove the hardest due to her overreliance on physical substance. The magic itself was of a different property than physical matter and did not interact with it in the way that her brain would expect. As such it took Jolyne Atreides a few hours to get it down, and now the sun had begun to set. While it was not physically demanding, it was mentally taxing work to craft spells. Jolyne Atreides was rather exhausted after a long day of coming up with new ideas and executing them with her magic. Though the Lich was excited to test out her spells more, she knew that her mana reserves would need to recover before she could do so again. Still it was enough joy for one day, especially one spent in solitude, that the woman was rather happy as she left what she was using as a training field. Overall it was an extremely productive day that satisfied her need to produce results, sleep would be a welcome reward that night. Jolyne reflected now upon her prior spells and cast them once each as she always did at the end to commit each intimately to memory. It was an important ritual, and an important part of Jolyne's process that she would do time, and again when she crafted spells. The Lich was a woman of habit and patterns sometimes, and so it was with her magical training.
