Not that it was all that bad, on the one side, it was the same kind of business as usual, on the other hand, that meant the client trusted him to do good work, which was its own reward in a way.

When you possessed the kind of reputation he had now, you couldn’t really be all that picky with your clients, and so it was absolutely essential that he had a stellar reputation regarding his work. That would tend to make the client spread good news of your talents, and secure new clients.
