Orchidia City - Pest Control[B-Rank] Empty Sat Oct 02, 2021 1:49 pm

Obasi
With the rising sun came a new day; like always it started with rays of sunlight intruding upon his sleep. Once again Obasi had a job to take care of, and one he was looking forward to. After waking from a restful sleep Obasi prepared himself to take on that day’s task. He dressed a bit differently nowadays. Instead of a long white sleeve shirt he wore a black wardrobe. To complete his new look, he donned a blue coat with a white trimmed hood. He was excited to take on the next day as usual, but he was tired of the small jobs. Zexion and he had parted ways some months ago leaving the octopus youth to his own devices. After climbing to new heights, he’d developed into a fledgling wizard capable of standing on his own. No longer reliant on others to drag him along. Obasi began taking on more responsibilities for himself. He was still a lazy guy, but he felt he’d grown up a bit. He’d even traveled to the north, partly for his guild, but mostly to find work. He’d return to Baska at some point, but until then he would do some questing in the northern lands.

Today’s quest entailed some work for an old rich guy in town. Being new to Orchidia himself he wasn’t aware of who the guy was, but he’d apparently requested the youth’s services. Obasi’s exploits through Baska underworld had served him well. He’d gained infamy and a level of notoriety that elevated him above the common street thug. It appeared the young savanan even here he had made a positive impression throughout the land and his presence was wanted elsewhere. Apparently, this new guy had spoken to Obasi’s former clients, and they were happy with his performance. The youth couldn’t help but feel a little satisfied with himself. He was a confident man, and that whatever job he took he’d succeed at it. A proud man he shared none of the nervousness that afflicted his contemporaries. He would just do as requested of him and be done with it. Whatever this task entailed he was more than ready to confront it head on and did so with gusto. As he prepared for his meeting with the old timer, Obasi readied his supplies for the day. He was new to the city and while Orchidia was an interesting city, the colder environment of the north didn’t sit well with him.

But first Obasi opted to start the day with a balanced breakfast. For the time being he’d been staying at a local inn, which provided all the meals he needed. The food was rather basic, and consisted of eggs, toast, and bacon. It wasn’t a terrible meal, but it wasn’t great either. It was just enough to leave him full for the day. As part of his daily routine Obasi started a shower as soon as he finished eating. After breakfast Obasi wasted zero time in leaving for his mission. He was nothing if not punctual. Even as he crossed paved roads and darted through dark alleys the wizard walked with purpose. Certain this job would begin and end like all of them did with him getting a little bit richer. Even though he’d only been in the city for a few days he knew the way to his client well enough. Of course, it wasn’t hard navigating when you had a map and a good sense of direction. When he’d arrived, an old man greeted him. The greeter was also a butler of some kind and wore a black suit with a shirt beneath. He spoke briefly and directed the youth to his awaiting master.

With zero hesitation Obasi followed the elder servant to his lord’s domain. They boarded an ebony-colored car with silver trim and a shiny exterior before it pulled off. The ride was long and quiet with not a word exchanged between them. Looking out the window Obasi could see the overgrowth of vegetation fading away as they drove deeper into the city’s maw. Gone were dilapidated ruins and broken roads, in their place stood pristine buildings and clean walkways. It was obvious to him that the closer to the metropolis’ center he grew the more it resembled an actual city. Obasi had to admit he was intrigued by the nature of Orchidia as a city. Its exterior resembled an ancient structure, but its innards were very much a typical city you’d find on Fiore. Had it always been like this were things he’d also wondered, but the north itself was still a mystery to him. Mostly because Fiore had been a mysterious place to the youth. Savanan held its own secrets, but he’d not explored much of his own homeland to even know them. In fiore, however, he could learn the lands secrets. Mysteries that he could hopefully use to enhance his own magical prowess.

He was so caught up in his own thoughts that Obasi hadn’t noticed the car arrive at their destination. Impressive in its girth and titanic size it was a large mansion sat atop an endless stretch of green. It was clear that the client was considerably wealthy, which meant a large payday for the young wizard. After a moment of gawking at the large estate from the car window. The aged servant opened the car door for him before leading Obasi inside the house. The mansion’s innards were as opulent as to be expected of a palatial estate and bore none of the signs of age and rot that plagued the city’s outskirts. In the presence of such overwhelming wealth Obasi’s body trembled with excitement. Surely, the reward he received from doing his client’s bidding would be fit for a king or at least a minor lord. Before the lord could daydream any longer a distinctly feminine voice grasped his attention. She was an older woman draped in finery and carried an air about her that he could not ignore. It was obvious that she was the lady of the manor. Finally, he’d be given his orders for the day so that he could complete his tasks. Whatever that task was he didn’t know, but he was about to find out.

She wanted to create a drug shop where an abandoned old building once stood. Not a difficult request, but he was sure there was a catch. The building was home to giant rats that needed to be eradicated. It was an unusual request, but one he’d meet with the same assuredness that he did any other. She gave him further information as well such as where the building was located and what condition it would be in. He, himself was unfamiliar with the north so he’d secretly appreciated her instructions. Not having the best since of direction himself Obasi needed all the help he could get. He’d often got lost in Baska and Orchidia would be no different, he was sure. Lastly, she warned him that the rodent horde most likely had a leader of some kind. The idea that rats would be that organized was a minor concern, but something he’d keep in mind anyway. After meeting with his client, the youth left to deal with the rodents. Map in hand Obasi navigated the streets of Orchidia, until he located the derelict structure. Old and decayed it stunk of mold and looked riddled with rot. Obasi wondered what use she saw in the old relic even after renovating it, but it wasn’t his concern. All he cared about was getting the job done and collecting his reward.

Before he entered the crumbling construct Obasi lit a torch. He might have been a fledging wizard, but the demihuman couldn’t see in the dark. Without warning the second he planted a foot in the door, a large shadow leapt upon him. Thinking quickly the wizard unleashed a flurry of oozy tentacles ensnaring the shadowed beast. With the beast gripped in his clutches Obasi slew the animal. When he saw the rat’s carcass Obasi knew what he was in for. Deep into the bowels of the building he traversed, monstrous beasts attacking him left and right. Three giant rats appeared before him baring their fangs. Not allowing them to have the upperhand he struck the animals with another flurry of tendrils, squeezing them until they popped like balloons. The next obstacle came in the form of a foursome of equally large, but vicious rats that seized Obasi. Again, with zero hesitation he struck them down, his fist wrapped in dark energy pierced the beasts’ ragged bodies. After dispensing with the monsters, he ventured to the final level of the estate. What he found was a nest of rats guarded by a colossal she beast that was undoubtly the leader of the horde. With lightning reflexes, he shielded himself from her attack. Wrapping his hand in darkness he unleashed a barrage of venomous blobs that eat through the beast flesh. After a hard won battle the beast lay dead and soon did its brood. Beneath the nest he found a stash of valuable gems that Obasi took for himself.
