But as he was nearing the door he noticed Lucretia standing there; arms crossed and brows raised. He’d sprint over practically and beg her for help; surprising the woman who would listen to what he had to ask. Hearing what he needed lucretia hesitated. He needed her to help him with a heart transplant? She’d carefully explain that she didn’t have the experience required for something like that. That her hands were better suited to fight than to do… that.
But Gerard begged her; explaining he just needed an assistant rather than someone to help him actually perform it. She’d consider it and then just nod her head; eventually donning an garment that would replace her armor that way that she could help him perform the surgery. It wasn’t something she was all too expecting to have to wear but she’d go with it for now.
She’d look at the list of items and then note their names; when asked she’d double check throughout his requests. Cleaning the used ones as needed and eventually she’d hand him a sharp clean scalpel. It was so sharp it had almost cut lucretia herself but she had managed to stop it from going through the cloth.
Gerard wasn’t so lucky, he’d cut open his hand and with a curse he’d had to sanitize his wound. He’d beg lucretia to remove the patient’s diseased heart and insert the new one. Lucretia eyeballed both of the items and glanced at Gerard who looked desperate. Setting her jaw she’d step forward, adjusting herself and donning some gloves to help keep the blood off her hands. She’d follow his instructions slowly and deliberately.
Removing the heart was easy, cutting in several places; making sure pumps were in place to keep the blood flow. A suction to remove the blood that had pooled while the heart was away. She’d adjust and pick the heart out of it’s container, it was fresh and looked ready to go. Following his instructions again the woman would insert the heart. Lining it’s arties up with that of the host body.
It’d take a little bit of work; given that stitching a new heart in place was more of a art than a science and lucretia wasn’t the best painter. She’d worry that the magic that was keeping the person alive would fail but gerard kept on instructing her as she went. Her hands were very steady since she was used to blood and she’d gingerly work throughout the next couple hours of work.
Putting in the heart was the hardest part honestly; one she didn’t want to repeat. But eventually she got to the point where all the arteries were connected. Once that was done the magic kickstarted the heart and she could see it working. Once that was the case she’d close up the patient's chest; sighing a bit as Gerard complimented her for her ability to remain calm under pressure.
She’d wave that off and ask if there was anything else he needed; but now that his hand was bandaged up she’d instead get a payment of jewels. Surprising her a bit but she’d give a small shrug. Giving his unwounded hand a shake she’d turn to leave.
Hearing him wondering what was causing this epidemic Lucretia would ponder to herself what indeed was causing it… She’d find out later. Or at least have to look into it.
