Khalfani †
This would be the second time that Khalfani had done this specific quest. Except now, he was back and he was better than ever before. The tides were changing. The gods were working in his favor, no doubt the work of Apophis himself. The other gods had abandoned him long ago. The devourer of the son had chosen Khalfani to be his vessel before he was born and although he no longer had the ability to manipulate chaos on whim, that power was still boiling inside of him. In this very moment, Khalfani Morningstar was anew. He was capable of eating the sun, it felt like. Capable of withstanding even his older brother's immense power. The young child who was once lost had been found by his power within. One wrong move, however, and it could potentially erupt and destroy his world before it was even forged out of the ashes of the fire he once stood in. It had been a while since anyone encountered the Black Panther.

The eighteen year old Dragon Slayer had embarked on his quest towards power alone. To be quite frank, he liked it like that. Only he could be the judge of how he maneuvered and what actions he took. Khalfani was now, in full control of his own life. The shackles of his former slave masters no longer existed. Not in mind, not in spirit, and definitely not in body. This was the new him, and all those who had a problem with it would just either have to eat it, or shut the hell up. This is what freedom felt like and he would revel in all its glory. Needless to say that there was still so much for him to do. There was still so much room for him to grow, so many things for him to accomplish. The opinions of all those that had once opposed him no longer mattered in his space. For he was on the journey, the rogue prince, to become a god.

It was the adventures that these quests had allowed him to pursue that gave him the wisdom he needed in the days to come. He could see that now. While yes, it was the money that made all of this more appealing, it was the lessons that he came out with that ultimately reigned supreme. Each quest that he took, each mission he had agreed to complete had something to offer besides monetary rewards. The outcome was greater than even he could fathom sometimes. He had been learning new things about himself with every passing moment. That is why each quest, although tedious almost all of the time, was absolutely necessary. Besides, if we're being honest right now, what was there for the rogue prince to do in Oak city other than make money? This city was infested with crime lords. It felt like every day there was another family attempting to stand up to the Marinos and take all they they had worked to establish.

Oak city lacked the life and excitement it once had. Perhaps he was just outgrowing this place. It was too simple for his soul. Tonight, Khalfani was outside for one reason and one reason only; to test the bounds of his newfound strength! Although the panther did not necessarily have a tight enough grip on his own abilities magic-wise, his physical body had broken past limits. It was only right that he begin to test himself. Of course, it would have been more fun to test these abilities with someone else. Like Konyo, the man who had trained him in Desierto. The archer with incredible strength and abilities that some would even deem impossible. Or maybe Odin. The Wizard Lord Lich who had raised him and had been feared by countless people throughout this country. It was funny, really. Out of all the time he had spent with his father, Khal had never seen how strong he was! The eighteen year old did not aspire to be like any of these famous mages.

For he was well aware that he had his own journey. However, he did understand that if he was to survive in this world- not only as a mage with unique abilities, but also as a leader, a commander, and a guild-master, then he would have to do the work. These were the very thoughts that had consumed his mind as he trekked through the city of Oak. Per usual, the spellsword wore a black hooded sweater with black sweatpants to match. His black combat boots covered his feet, somehow remaining unscathed. Though underneath, blisters covered his toes. One of these days he would definitely need to get a pedicure, see a doctor, or even both, hell. It's normal though, especially when you were always out getting your hands dirty like Khalfani had been. The dragon slayer was fully prepared for the quest he had taken again. Today's adventure involved the church of Oak city.

He wasn't fond of the cathedrals in which Illumin was worshipped because Illumin was not his god, but this specific church seemed to be having consistent problems with ghosts and other malicious spirits in its catacombs. It was to be expected if you acknowledged all the trauma citizens of this city endured. Many of them would die angry or unloved. They were still bound to this earthly realm because many of them had left with nothing. The catacombs reeked with vengeance. The last time Khalfani had embarked on this quest he was with his good friend Veronica. She had proven herself to be a strong mage with a good head on her shoulders. From what he can tell, she knew what she wanted and she would do anything in her power to achieve. How could you not respect such a person? Wherever she was, the Desiertan was sure that she was taking care of herself. Khal had grown to not only like her, but appreciate her presence. She was like him in many ways. For starters she didn't take no shit.

The last quest that him and Veronica had done together involved sea monsters in Astera. Khalfani couldn't be of help because of his fear of seas and other large bodies of oceans, so today was also about redeeming himself. He could handle the ghosts in the catacombs of this church no biggie. He had done it once before, surely he could do it again. The large building was getting close. It was about five in the morning, which meant that most folks were sleep. Some could perhaps hear the moaning coming from the direction he had been walking in, others probably were too deep into slumber to realize. In any case, for the next few days at least, the people of this city would be able to rest. Aside from his own personal reasons, Khal had also taken this specific quest to defend the city. HE didn't need to know every single person who lived I Oak to feel for them.

After all, like stated before, this city was complete shit. Finally the slayer stepped foot in the yard of the church, looking up to see its beauty, then turning away in disgust that he could even embrace its holiness. It was a relief that he was finally here though. So, with a sigh he pushed open the doors and began walking in. His shield was on his back and his ear-wrap sat comfortably where it belonged. Khal looked around, seeing it completely empty aside from the priest and woman in the front. The woman appeared to be crying in the priests arms, obviously in distress about something. Her garments were torn and her arm had been bleeding. Suddenly the sister nuns appeared from the room behind the alter with rags and other medical supplies. "What's the situation?" the spell sword asked curiously. The paster nodded towards the nuns who had taken the woman and sat her on the bench in the first row of the church.

"Oh thank Illumin, you're here. This woman's husband has not been able to passover.. it seems that he is angry at his own death. So much so that he doesn't even recognize his wife anymore." The priest shook his head, glancing over at the sobbing woman. "I see..." Khalfani began. "And I'm assuming he's apprehended in the catacombs for now." The priest nodded. "But not for long. We don't specialize in magics that cause any real harm, only barrier magic and we're hardly good at that." He said with a defeated sigh. The panther nodded slowly. "Alright, then I'll send him off." He said. Just as he began walking over to the widow, the church began to shake, pieces of the roof falling off, small pieces of stone crumbling. The former vampire walked towards the woman and knelt, telling her that he would send her husband off and he would go to a beautiful place. Of course, Khal had not known if that was actually true or not, but he understood that it was something the woman needed to hear for her own sanity.

Suddenly a large scream echoed through the church. "CLARISSE!!" the voice bellowed. Khalfani stood up with a nod towards the people in the church as they gathered together for comfort. "This'll be over in a moment." Was all he said before running to the entrance that led to the catacombs. To his surprise, the spirit of the middle-aged man had zoomed through the barrier protecting the entrance, pushing Khalfani back all the way to the other end of the church. "Shit." he said as his back crashed into the wall. The spirit growled. He looked deranged. His eyes were glowing a bright red color, he was ready to kill. The wife screamed in fear as the spirit began making its way towards the far right of the cathedral. The priest, in a feeble attempt to protect the people around him, revealed his large golden cross and rebuked the spirit. "Stay back! By the power of Illumin, stay back!" He shouted as the spirit slowly approached.

The panther tapped his earpiece, causing his helmet to engulf his head as he threw his shield from his back to his forearm. Sprinting, he shouted towards the spirit. "Hey!" he shouted. The nuns and the widow began to pray. They couldn't even look the spirit in the eyes they were so afraid of it. In the olden days only about ten percent of people in the world could use magic, now magic items existed, magic everything existed for people to use as they wished. So how the fuck didn't these nuns or this priest have anything that could truly defend them in moments like these. This building was haunted in every aspect of the word. This wasn't news to anyone. How the hell did they still have this problem? What was the king actually doing to stop things like this from happening over and over again?! The fact that this church had still remained and the priest still believed that any good would come from being here was simply mind blowing!

The shield on Khalfani's back was heavy. It made him a lot slower, but it was nothing that he couldn't handle. In no time he had approached the spirit and threw his shoulder into it using the momentum from his charge, causing it to crash through the alter into the wall at the back of the charge. The building shook as the spirit screeched from anger. More debris fell from the roof. The building was slowly dissolving into nothingness, but surely these repairs would be handled by the government. Shit, 'cause Khalfani surely had no intentions on doing it. Not for the church of Illumin, at least. He wasn't in that stage of lovingness. The rogue prince darted towards the group of people as the spirit did, stopping in front of them and lifting his shield just in time. Suddenly the spirit froze. The gaze of his shield had completely petrified it. The moments that followed were the widows goodbyes and Khalfani had swung his hand through the spirit, sending it off.
