Was it that the world had changed so much? Vyra seemed like she once knew these people, despite her limited time within Marigold and yet this, something about this felt so much different, so much worse than what it had once been. The way of thinking for these people, their willingness to buy into a sense of hatred and contempt towards others, it was behavior that she knew only too well, it was behavior that she failed to understand, and it was behavior that she knew to only get worse and worse if allowed to manifest. Watching how the world was going, with the violence that was taking place more frequently in Hargeon, not even attributed to that of the existing trade war that was going on, but simply that of the inherent amount of racism and prejudice that was existence already and only having gotten worse, Vyra came to think that perhaps it was not something new, but rather just how people were.

It was a disheartening thing, particularly given Vyra, whom had come to first believe that there were better people than what she had once encountered during her time, both before and after she had arrived in Fiore. The world has shown her nothing, nothing save for cruelty and sadness, forcing a young girl, abandoned in the beginning of her youth to fend for herself. A task made no easier due to the inherent disdain and distrust that was shown towards her, a young girl with the attributes of a goat. A freak by all standards, something that was less than a human by many respects, and treated in that same regard too. It was saddening even more knowing that she was not someone whom had come from anything other than poverty, a poor situation that was even more made miserable given her attributes as a Demi-Human. No breaks were provided, and she wished that it had been something that were more isolated, not a standard that seemed to be set throughout.

What more disgusted Vyra though, than anything else, was that the behavior was something that was coming closer to becoming standard, even accepted. It wasn’t just that the people had begun to openly show disdain and contempt towards Demi-Humans and foreigners alike, viewing them all as inferior in one respect or another, it was that it was becoming openly done and in some respects even, was being even appreciated. Children were growing up, becoming exposed towards this behavior, learning it, and then being as much molded by it, set to follow in the same practices and standards that existed with their parents and their friends. The cycle would end up just repeating itself, over and over and over again, to the point where the behavior that a generation may have once reviled and viewed as something awful would come to think less of it as the years went, and with each subsequent generation it would become more and more common.

She had seen the behavior manifest itself even further and further in Hargeon since she even arrived. While she was on the streets, struggling to survive, struggling to figure out if she would make it to see the next day, she had seen no shortage of it happening. People looking down upon her, children viewing her as a freak, rocks being thrown in her direction, the acts of generosity that were to be considered basic human principles, basic ideas of generosity and basic human nature were instead things of rarity for Vyra, much to her dismay. When she first met Alisa, she would have thought that the world would have changed for her. Beyond just the nature of her situation going from living in the streets to instead living in a home of luxury, and with that, she thought that there was going to have been a difference in how the people viewed her. She thought that that was going to have been the case, and she was dismayed to realize that it hardly seemed to matter.

Part of it was attributed to the nature of her situation with Blue Pegasus. Because she was not actually in the guild, there was a level of respect that was not shown her way than what would have been afforded to her that had become effectively standard throughout Hargeon. No, she was not Blue Pegasus. She was Alisa’s Pet. It was a sickening term that was given to her, as much to indicate that she was not in the guild based on her talents or abilities, of which those who coined the term and used it had no basis behind, Vyra’s capabilities effectively having been made completely and utterly unknown outside of Alisa and those closest to Vyra’s situation. But it was also a dig towards her being a Demi-Human. She was a goat. She was a pet. An animal. For her to be in the company of those within Blue Pegasus, it should have been for show, not for any practical sense or reasoning that may have been towards her actually being a person.

It hurt, making her feel like she was not worth anything. It was seldom, if ever, said to her within the Blue Pegasus Guild Hall, a place where that sort of behavior would have been met with great punishment, even from that of Alisa, whom had taken great exception to anyone seeming to indicate that sort of contempt towards her. But it did not change that there may have been those who believed it, even those who she may have thought to be as a friend, if even it could have been regarded in that respect. Friends were things that she had very few of, and because of that, found herself very hard pressed to accept friendships out of fear that they may have been using her. The world had made her sad, fearful of the people, and thus to acquire a friend, it would have been something that she longed for. But for as much as she may have longed for it, she knew that plenty of those whom would extend a hand in friendship would as much speak ill of Alisa’s Pet once her back was turned.

On these occasional trips to Marigold, she would have hoped that she could have escaped from the racism, escape from the snide remarks that had come with everything that she had faced within Hargeon, and yet, as she stood within the city, looking at the performances that were to happen, seeing reviews of what had been put on previously, and listening to the people speaking, she knew that it was far from the case. The racism that she sought to escape was still very much alive, and now was coming to a point where the idea that it would be something that could have stopped were becoming far more like that of dreams that were impossible to achieve, no matter how much she would have wished it to be. In the past she had tried to leverage whatever sort of influence she had within the people of the Marigold Theater, a largely isolated community that handled what they did by their own accord, but it was clear that the efforts she assumed to be able to achieve were nothing more than illusions.

It had become now more the standard, a motivational source for the aspiring artist, for the aspiring writer, for no shortage of people whom sought to develop a name for themselves. Gone were the days of artists and performers managing to find some level of success and fame based upon their talent. In the new age, one in which the motivations were as much driven by the growing racism that was clouding throughout Fiore and also that of the fiscal motivations, the very real appeal of the money that abiding and appealing towards these demographics were yielding, it was becoming the new standard. And while those within the Marigold Theater, particularly the ones whom Vyra had come to respect and regard for their commitment to the craft, they were becoming more the minority as time went and more and more people were drawn to the fame and money. Their voices had become drowned out, and in the world of theater, it was either stick with the waves or sink.

To make matters worse, one of the most influential people whom she had had a chance to get to know during her first time in Marigold, when she was working as a temporary assistant to the people of the Theater, a young actress whose name had escaped Vyra at the time, was no longer there. It was always known that the girl was going to be something special, and despite her having operated in a more shady manner, not too much unlike that of the people of the trading companies in Hargeon, it did not take away from her presence on stage and influence back stage. When she performed, people paid attention. When she spoke, people listened. But eventually she was going to go on and reach greater heights and in the time since Vyra had first been there and now, the woman was gone, a new actress sitting upon the top of the theater’s hierarchy. And as someone who was able to benefit and attribute their rise in part to the growing sentiment of racism, it was far less likely that any hope of ceasing these kinds of works would happen.

Whatever protest she brought up, it was largely dismissed. Vyra’s contributions to the Marigold Theater, as wide as they may have been in their function and duration once upon a time were only that. Once upon a time. Time had moved on, in this case without Vyra. Marigold was changing. Costs of living, influenced in part by a struggling economy and other factors outside of the peoples’ control, part of it being influenced by the rampant exotic trade that was coming out of Hargeon, had begun to put a greater toll on Marigold. Thus, the Theater became even more essential, but to draw more interest, it was much more worthwhile from a time and cost perspective to play to the idea of racism and bigotry than original ideas. And so long as that was the case, the Theater was going to work to ensure that it could milk it appropriately, and while the Theater was going to do that, the artists were similarly going to go ahead and engage themselves within the work too.

Knowing that it were a cycle that she could not kill, at least yet, Vyra set out to simply do what she could, and the best way to achieve that, or at least slow things down were to ruin the top of the throne. The newest actress, a racist in her own right, was the one who had to fall upon her sword to ensure that the next play that were to happen in Marigold had to struggle, whether out of bad press or otherwise the need for a new actress, Vyra set out to achieve that. Some time passed while Vyra were in Marigold as she figured out exactly how she was going to go about it, and though it took some time, one of the more conniving ways she had figured to handle the matter was a bit of a different approach. Killing off one of the other actors and framing the lead. It was a more ambitious plan than what she expected, but after inviting them both out for drinks and then subsequently slitting the throat of one of them, it would have been perfect. Given that she was a racist herself, there was nobody who would have believed that Vyra was actually there, nor would they believe her if she said otherwise. As the plan were carried out, it took very little issue, very little challenge either, essentially just making sure that she could get both of them alone, and the promises of alcohol from a lesser race was easy enough of a draw. Once the plan was carried out, it only was a matter of time before the actress was charged and the nature of the whole thing forced the play to shut down. It was a dark approach, certainly, but one that Vyra had no qualms with committing in pursuit of a more noble goal.
