Appearance

Height: 5'8".

Weight: 135 lbs.

Hair: Blue Black.

Eyes: Ice Blue.

Overall:
Asahi is of average height, standing straight-backed and rigid with a lanky physique. On his head is a mop of shaggy black hair, untamed as though he had rolled out of bed. His skin is a pale complexion while his face is rather long and sallow. His eyes are a startling sky blue always looking tired or apathetic. While a perpetual frown or thin-lined expression can be seen on his lips.

Fashion was never a major factor for Asahi, instead, he tends to wear similar outfits. Ranging from a buttoned, high-collared jacket with long sleeves. A pair of somewhat baggy black pants. And a pair of black boots or Joyan sandals. Finally, a sheathed katana can always be seen on his person, as he never strays far from it.

Extra:  Plenty of scars. From jagged to precise, they are all over his back, chest, arms, and even legs rising up just to his collarbone.

Personality

Personality:
Reticent in nature, Asahi is a man of many secrets. That which he keeps close to his chest. A quiet, thoughtful, soul with an icy exterior borne from years of training and abuse. While he is not exuberant he is not completely closed off. He'll speak on subjects that interest or fascinate him. And is not afraid to speak his mind when asked or provoked.

Frank yet polite in his manners, he has a soft-spoken tone, though such words do not lack steel. He will amusedly exchange banter or barbs with an intelligent enough sort. Though his sense of humor is often off-color and morbid in nature. However, such amusement ends when he is in the presence of idiots and oafs. His parents raised him perfectly, well - as perfectly as a family of murderers and assassins could.

He learned at an early age to respect those of power - whether it be magical prowess or societal hierarchy. As much as he wishes to shed such formalities it has been unfortunately ingrained in his very psyche. Because of this, he holds a servile attitude to those above him in rank. And having fit so neatly within a certain way of life makes him rather rigid when it comes to structuring.

There is always someone stronger, better, greater than you. The weak obey the strong. To defy means to be granted strength or death. Due to this, he tends to be out of sorts without some sort of routine. Absolute chaos is something he is unable to handle well due to his orderly way of existing. Though he has slowly begun acclimating to this change due to his newfound freedom and independence.

In his rather short life, little stir his interest. He never had a normal life, to begin with, so he never developed likes or dislikes that your average person would. Orders, death, eat, shit, bath, and sleep were basically his routine since he first held a sword at the age of four. His inability to connect with others socially makes him difficult to communicate with sometimes. Certain obvious societal things go over his head. Love is a foreign thing that he is barely able to comprehend.

Though he is very much capable of emotion, years have gone by before he felt anything akin to happiness or even rage. But if there is one thing he learned to appreciate in life, it's the concept of praise. Much like a puppy looking for affection. A simple compliment tends to send his heart into a frenzy. And like a puppy, his loyalty is cemented the moment you throw him enough positive emotion. However, when brought up - he will bluntly deny such "ridiculous" claims.

On the battlefield, there is only the mission. Very little piques his interest save for the overwhelming bloodlust he feels when clashing with a superior foe. He thrives in adversity and unlike some, his inability to win only fuels him further. He feels his happiest with a challenge. A masochist who enjoys getting his face kicked in if it means he feels like he's alive.

This is not to be mistaken with mindlessness. In fact, even in the heat of a battle he still fights with an analytical and tactful mind. Utilizing his summoning magic in conjunction with his sword techniques to further deliberate, harm, and hopefully kill his foes.

He is not one to run away or cower in the face of disadvantageous odds. In fact, he revels at the prospect. Through defeat or victory, Asahi finds the sweet taste of achievement. Whether major or small - he continues to advance to ever greater heights and challenges.

Likes:
  • Challenges: Specifically and exclusively in combat. He loves the feeling of overcoming his limitations in a fight. To surpass his limits. And the only way to do so is to take on greater challenges.
  • Praise: The first time he ever heard praises targeted toward him his brain short-circuited from a feeling he never felt before. Since that day, he's actively done his absolute best to gain such a feeling again. He just can't get enough!

Dislikes:
  • Weaklings: Weaklings give no challenge to him. And with no challenge, he can exceed nor excel. Weak opponents irritate him as he gains nothing from fighting them.
  • Cowards: Not only are cowards almost universally weak, their annoying and untrustworthy. They'll turncoat the moment they find someone more appealing. Because of this, he feels no remorse for ending the lives of rats who flee from a sinking ship.

Motivations:
  • His Brother's Legacy:
To fulfill his brother's dying wishes, living for his sake and doing what he could not achieve in life.

Fears:
  • Death: Particularly death without achieving any of his goals in life, whether big or small. It's not death he's afraid of. It's the fear of dying without accomplishing anything worth mentioning.
  • Failure: The inability to fulfill his brother's wishes and desires.

Magic

Magic Name: Hundred Spirits Night Parade.
Magic Element: Darkness.

Magic Enhancement: Fast Cast Summoning.

Magic Description:
Also known as "Night Parade Of One Hundred Spirits" or "Hyakki Yōkai" in Joyan. Is an ancient summoning magic passed down within the Itō clan's bloodline. As the last direct descendant of the Itō family, Asahi wields "ofuda" or paper talismans.

Which when utilizing his magic via a purple magic circle underneath him. He transfers some of his magic into them and binds a spirit to the foci. In doing so, the paper talismans take the guise of the deceased spirit's original form. Fighting for its summoner on the battlefield.

Due to the darkness attributed to this magic, the spirits can be testy or stubborn and outright disobey or even attack Asahi if he lacks strong fortitude or conviction. A slip of his iron-clad will could easily turn things sideways. Because of this, he requires a strong mind and strong spirit to effectively utilize this technique. One he desires to master - no matter the cost.

History

[CW: Transphobia, Abuse, Murder.]
Asahi Itō was born twenty-one years ago as the twin sister of Akira Itō. The Itō family was a clan of exceptionally skilled assassins and mercenaries who ran a family-run guild known as "Black Lotus". Some wielded the blade while others relied on their magics, but regardless of which martial or magical skill they chose - their chosen path in life was always death.

Born as the frailer of the two children, known as Asuna at the time - they always felt as though they were in the wrong body. And while female members of the clan were almost always forced to use seductive or feminine wiles to ensnare their targets, Asuna instead favored the art of magic. Their brother, Akira was more for the martial prowess and excelled in wielding a sword.

The two, though so similar, adopted different styles of assassination. And as inseparable as they were - they made up for each other's weaknesses when together. Akira was very protective of his younger sibling even against their traditional and stubborn elders. Often indulging in their wants and whim, unable to say no to them, he shielded them as much as he could when they were little.

So, when Asuna expressed that they felt they were not who they seemed, he accepted them wholeheartedly. Extremely happy to have a brother, even as their family balked at the newly named Asahi's "ridiculousness". They assumed it was some sort of "phase" the younger twin would grow out of. And if not, something they could stamp out through force.

But no matter what they tried Asahi was there to stay, much to their frustration. In hopes of curbing any form of "unruliness" from the two, their parents schemed by often putting them on separate missions. Akira with his immense, superior, skill compared to Asahi was given more difficult work. As Asahi was soon regulated to stay at homework in order to "improve his magical performance". Which was really just a ploy to keep him out of the way and under surveillance and control.

Beatings disguised as training were not uncommon as well as lectures and sly insults. The clan had all but excommunicated him, treating him as an unwanted black sheep. Left to exist and fester unfulfilled, hoping it would stamp out any fight left in him. A perfect, mindless, doll stripped of any and all desire but to serve and fight for the clan. During the tail end of this indoctrination, Akira caught wind of the family's schemes and flew into a rage. Upon returning the prodigious son called upon his full strength and razed hell upon the clan home. Slaying each and every clan member who got in his way.

It was here he took his younger sibling and fled the household. Covering their tracks they went into hiding before the returning, much stronger clan head returned home. Their grandfather came upon the sight of his slain skin and no hide nor hair of the twins. Walking over the corpses of the fallen he took the remaining token force they had left - consisting of him, the twins' father, and a few other members and tracked down the betrayers. It would be a whole year until they were found.

Caught completely unaware one night the twins were attacked and captured. Forced to watch as his brother was tortured to death something in Asahi snapped as he called upon the power that was thought to be lost from the Itō bloodline for generations. Calling on the wicked spirit summoning magic known as the "Hundred Spirits Night Parade". Asahi laid waste to the last of his kin, though not without damage being done to him as well.

Battered but not broken he held his older brother in his arms as the young man whispered to him his final lamentations, his wishes, and desires. The desire for his little brother to "live". To become strong enough to defy even the strongest of monsters. To create a world where the weak and strong could coexist in harmony.

Though, not everything Asahi heard was correct. His mind shattered by his dearest person's death twisted his words into a desire to seek out power. To become powerful so that none could take anyone away from him again. And to create a world where anyone could earn strength and the right to prove it.  A fair world, where one's power determined who ran things. A world where he could stop the weaklings, like his own family, from controlling the strong.

With morning came a new dawn, and as he buried his brother and said his final goodbyes Asahi began his journey to become more powerful. From then on, a few years passed, as he partially transitioned using the money from his contracts to pay for it (top surgery). He also grew more skilled in his magic as well as the blade.

Taking killer-for-hire and information-gathering roles, not often for fame but instead for a challenge. He believed that he would only become strong if he constantly went against more powerful opponents. And he got his wish, in the form of meeting a member of an evil, infamous, guild.

The Eternal Nightmare.

After a clash - Asahi was swiftly defeated. Stomped like a child against a demon and made humble. This didn't stop him, however. It instead lighted a feeling within him he hadn't felt in his whole life. This ecstasy threw his whole world around as he desired to feel that once again. Smitten by the taste of defeat Asahi "sold his soul" so to speak.

Desiring to become a member of the guild he sought them out himself. After licking his wounds for a few months he found himself at their doorstep, offering himself to their cause. His conviction paid off as he was brought into the guild's callous halls as an initiate.

Now, as a newcomer to one of the most infamous guilds in the world. Asahi's true journey begins now... And he has a lot to prove...
