Yuurei

Now that they were back within the guild, the people in his division would be able to relax. There was a lot that had happened, but it mattered. The death of everyone’s comrades and even the civilian's matter. They had been able to take out the giants and now that there weren’t any left it was time to rebuild. Still, right now even though it was done, it was time for people to mourn their friends and family. The light mage wanted to celebrate their heroics and that was why there was a small part within the guildhall.

The members that fought with him and Haru were there. They were blasting music, but not loud enough so people couldn’t hear each other. They were drinking and eating appetizers that Yuurei had cooked up for everyone. The berserker wanted something good for them today and he hoped that they would enjoy it all. They didn’t need him to make a speech because they knew where he stood.

Yuurei was at the bar right now. This was his home, so he walked around shirtless. He was looking into his whiskey on ice as he was wondering what was going to happen next. It seemed like the fight against these giants wasn’t the end of it all. He had a feeling something was going to happen soon, but he didn’t know what. The light mage was drinking alright, and the bartender would walk over to him with a smile on her face.

“Are you going to celebrate with them? They looked like they’re happy to be together.” She said to him.

“Nah, I’m just happy to see them enjoy their time. I know that is what everybody would have wanted. I just wished I could save more lives, but there is no dwelling in the past.” He would say this to the bartender and he would raise his glass and drink the rest of his whiskey.

When she saw that she would go get him another one.

Haru Akagi
Haru was still dealing with all the things she'd seen and done. Well more seen than done. She hadn't felt like she'd done anything. She'd been too weak to even be considered a threat to most of those gigantic monstrous creatures. She sat on her bed in her room in the guild hall for a while, staring at her hands, lost in her thoughts. It wasn't until she heard a tapping at her door that she snapped out of it. Opening the door she'd find one of her rangers smiling down at her as he reminded her about the party happening down at the guild's bar.

Right, she'd almost forgotten, to help build morale back up after such devastating events, they were holding a party. The feline would be lying if she said she felt like going, but as a leader of a small squadron, it would be odd for her not to show her face at least for a few minutes. With a heavy heart, she'd thank her fellow ranger and close the door behind her before heading down. She hadn't bothered to dress up or wear anything special and quickly found herself sidling up next to Yuurei at the bar as she too ordered some heavy liquor, ready to throw a few back in an attempt to drown out her dark thoughts with alcohol. She'd glance over towards the other members all partying with smiles plastered on their faces.

"Well, at least some of us feel like celebrating." Haru chuckled as she turned to Yuurei beside her, "It still feels a little premature to me." The feline sighed as she downed the first drink in one go, much like the light mage had done previously, unbeknownst to her.

Yuurei

Yuurei would look over at the new addition to the party. He would smile when he saw and heard Haru’s words. He would chuckle though as this was what everybody wanted to do. He figured it was best for everyone and he wasn’t going to deny them what they wanted.

He watched her down her drink and he would nod because it was only right on this occasion.

“I guess. It’s nice to drink your pain and feelings away. I’m just doing this for everybody's sake. Everyone looks like they’re enjoying their time more than anything. We knew some of the people that died, but those guys knew them better than we did.” He said to Haru as the bartender returned with a drink for Yuurei.

She would see that Haru’s glass was empty, and she would go get her another drink.

“I’m glad that you came down here. I was hoping I wouldn’t be on my own through all of this. Still, are you feeling okay or you don’t want to talk about it?” He asked her wondering what she would say.

Yuurei would look at his whiskey as he would lift the glass and he would examine it before chugging it once again. He would sigh and he looked over at everyone that was enjoying their time. When he did that he smile before looking over at Haru again.

"Heh." Haru chuckled to herself, knowing full well she had a bit of an alcohol problem, one that had formed since running from home. It was a good way to help her forget the pain and suffering of her past. Now she'd just add a few more terrible experiences to the list. It was true though, she hadn't been exceptionally close to anyone that had died, her rangers hadn't been in the front lines and had all been fairly fine other than a couple of minor injuries. Which was fortunate, given she only had a handful, to begin with.

Regardless, the horror of seeing people quite literally torn apart was something that had been making sleep difficult. The visions had been reoccurring every night in her nightmares alongside the werewolves now, although she wasn't going to admit that to anyone, lest she seemed even weaker than she already did. Instead, she simply forced on a small smile, thanking the bartender for the drink as she sighed gently, enjoying the liquid courage.

"I'm alright." She lied, putting on a brave face that would be difficult to read through, given her skills in deceiving people, especially those close to her, "Just tired." She admitted, that she couldn't exactly hide the bags that had been forming under her eyes now could she? Not after she'd decided to skip makeup and put no effort into looking exceptionally good for the evening. "How about yourself?" She'd ask, curious as to the light mage's reaction. He didn't seem the type to think too long and hard about things, blood and gore almost seemed to bounce right off him.

Perhaps he'd killed enough creatures at this point he didn't feel anything? She'd heard the stories, everyone had. He was incredibly famous after all. Although, rumours were still rumours, just because people whispered that he'd done this and that, didn't mean it was true. However, after seeing him in action herself, she was confident that the rumours probably weren't just all smoke.

Yuurei

Yuurei would hear her small responses, and it would seem like it was bothering her. Of course, he wasn’t sure what part of the event got to her. Still, he wasn’t going to pry that information out of her. It wouldn’t go well with him, and he didn’t want her to be forced to speak. Instead, he would wait for another drink to come his way while he looked at the woman next to him. It wouldn’t take long, but she would ask him the question he had asked her. It was something he figured was only right for her to ask.

“I’m okay, I guess. I’m still beating myself down even though you told me not to. It is hard to not think about what I could have done to make sure fewer people die. It’s not easy to take people’s lives. If they’re monsters, then you best believe I can without a thought. If they threaten the lives of my friends, my family, or my own, then I can do it without hesitation.” He said to Haru as he looked away from her for a second.

The bartender would fill his drink once again and he would look at the glass of whiskey.

“It sucks that I have to tell the family of these people the bad news. It hurts me to the core.” He said to Haru.

He would shake his head at what he had to do. It was sad to see those he spoke to break down. His heart yearned to help them, but there was nothing he could do. Yuurei could still remember their tears and them asking to bring them back, but he could only stand there wishing none of that happened to them.

Haru Akagi
Her golden eye glanced away from the liquid swirling in the glass before her, darting to the man beside her as he spoke. Her ears twitched as she strained to listen to him over some of the ruckuses a few of the fellow guild members were causing not too far away. She'd nod in response to his first couple of sentences, he was the kind to put the world on his shoulders and take responsibility and therefore any and all minor blunders were personal failures. So naturally, having quite a number of the men under his command dying over the last few days would have put him in quite a negative state.

"Well if they hadn't given their lives for the cause, then those creatures would still be running rampant causing complete chaos and leaving the north in utter disarray." Haru responded before taking a sip of her drink. Her words weren't necessarily positive, but they were the truth, a few lives to save the many was what it had been. Of course, it would always be preferable to lose no people, but alas that was not the way the world tended to work. It was why she could somewhat understand the cheers and happiness the others partying were feeling. The sheer joy that it was over and they had been the survivors even if some of their comrades had not been so lucky.

"Still sucks though." the feline added as she now stared back down at her drink, scowling a little. Her finger tapped on the glass of liquid courage a few times as she sat in thought, before taking a small sip, choosing to enjoy this drink rather than simply knock it back as she had done with the last. For once she found herself unable to find the words to properly console the person next to her.

Yuurei

Yuurei would hear Haru’s words and she was right on that. They were heroes, and they were indeed the reason why more lives weren’t lost. It couldn’t have gone worse than what had happened within the entirety of the event. That he could agree with, but they stood quiet though. He heard the final words that came out from her, and he would lean back from his chair as those were stuck to him true.

“Yes, it does suck.” He said as he would take a sip of his whiskey and he would smile a bit.

“Still, you’re right, they didn’t lose their lives for nothing. And I’m sure that we will all remember them. I won’t let their work go to waste and I will make sure that we continue to keep the North a safe place.” He said to Haru as he moved his head down, and his arm up.

Yuurei would take another sip of his drink and he would move around his mouth as he was enjoying the taste of it. He would swallow it as he looked over at her. The light mage was glad that she was by his side. What made him happier was that she didn’t perish on the battlefield. It made things even better for him.

While he thought about that all he could do was smile at that thought and figured he would allow her to know this.

“I’m glad I get to talk to you about all of this thought. Which means I’m happy more than happy that you’re alive here Haru.” He said to her as he was going to pat her head, but then stopped.

He didn’t want her to freak out about it and instead he would take more of his whiskey. He was slow to swallow it once again as he was allowing himself to savor the drink.

The group on the other side was dancing around and laughing and talking to each other. Yuurei was glad that they were having fun and enjoying themselves. He wasn’t sure when was the next time they would be able to do such a thing.

Haru's mouth twitched into the slightest smile as the light mage beside her agreed with her previous statement. It did indeed suck. At the very least it seemed they were in agreement that while the situation was seemingly over, they would still continue to focus on protecting the north of the country in whatever way was necessary. The feline woman had a couple of people she still needed to check up on in the mining town, they had been too preoccupied the last time for her to ensure they had made it out safely before or during the attacks.

Her mind wandered to the elderly Joyan woman whom she'd grown steadily closer to. The little ramen store had only started picking up popularity just before the giants stormed through the township. Her golden eyes closed as she silently prayed for her to have survived, she had been a wonderful person, even if the store had been where she'd witnessed a horrible vision, the feline hadn't let that taint it for her. Preoccupied with her thoughts of the elderly woman, Haru's eyes snapped open as her ears twitched towards the light mage barely catching his words in time as he spoke.

"Oh, yes, same back to you." She smiled sweetly in his direction, for once completely genuinely pleased. It was nice that it seemed at least someone enjoyed her company, enough to be happy she was still alive. The thought filled her with a small warm fluttering sensation, a pleasant tingling in the brain. The feline placed her drink back on the bar before scratching the back of her neck as she tilted her head. Her golden eyes glanced away from the light mage momentarily as if contemplating asking something. She scowled a little to herself, opening her mouth, only to close it again.

Yuurei

Yuurei would look at her when he spoke, and it would seem like he had gotten her to smile at him. It was interesting because there were times when he saw her smile, but this time it was different. It made him blush a little bit. It wasn’t that it was new to him, but from her, he never thought there would be a day. Still, he wasn’t going to comment on it as he didn’t want her to be conscious or concerned about it. Instead, he would notice something else from her. It was as if she wanted to ask him something, but something was holding her back.

The light mage wasn’t the type of person to let it go though. He figured it must have been important if she was going to bring it up in the first place.

“Haru what’s up? You seem like you wanted to tell me something. If it means anything I would like to know what you had to say to me. I find your words important, so don’t hold back.” He said with a smile on his face as he placed his drink on the counter.

It seemed like if she was putting her drink down, then it was truly important. So, he decided to do the same thing as well. His eyes looked at her as if he was showing Haru that she had his undivided attention. The bartender walked away, so Haru felt more comfortable, and she wouldn’t feel like others were listening to what she probably had to tell Yuurei on her own.

The others were getting flat-out drunk with each other. It was actually beautiful how comfortable they all were with each other. There were others who were sleeping on the couch and shown how together this guild was with each other even though it was freshly new.

It seemed her body language had given her away, and the feline could feel the light mage's piercing blue eyes locking onto her as she hesitated. She avoided looking in his direction, as a range of emotions and thoughts raced through her mind. Her first instinct was to lie and say it was nothing, but it would be too obvious at this point. If she were going to hold back the truth of her feelings she'd need something at least half believable. However, what was the point in coming up with a lie on the spot when the truth would make him happy? Or at least she was pretty sure it would.

Haru's usually cool, calm demeanour was slowly slipping away as she found herself at a loss for the right words to not sound childish. She was generally so well-spoken that even she often forgot she was still a hormonal teenager with childish thoughts from time to time. With one final deep breath, she'd turn to face the light mage, noting that they were now completely alone, even the barkeep had left them to themselves. Had she been that obvious? Her nerves were getting the better of her she could feel it.

"So, um, do you recall the first time we met?" She asked, her eyes flickering away from his again, as the nerves continued to grow, "Well second meeting I guess, although I don't really count at the fight ring..." Haru quickly continued so as not to be mistaken. The man before her was more than just the stranger she'd met by chance at this point, he meant so much more to her now over the time spent undertaking jobs together and solving mysteries around the north. The fear of losing such a good friend was definitely a new feeling, but if she wasn't open and honest with him right this minute, she might never be again.

Her ears twitched in the light mage's direction, hoping to hear a simple agreement that he did in fact recall the first time they had actually spoken. He had made her food and things had gotten a little heated after she had pushed some of his buttons. If not for the fact she had feared leaving him only more hurt at the time, it definitely would have continued to only get more heated, or at least she doubted Yuurei would have been the one to put a stop to things.

Yuurei

Yuurei was waiting for Haru to speak to him. It would seem like she was a nervous wreck at this point. He could see that she was trying her best not to look at him. That was enough to give it away, and soon enough she would finally speak to him. His eyes never left her, but he heard her words and even her fumbling afterward as well. He thought about that and how she had teased him repeatedly. He was hurt around that time as he was recovering from a rejection from his best friend. Still, it was a good feeling and he had wished they had taken action.

Of course, he didn’t lie to her, and it was why he was rejected that day too. Still, was today a different day? He wasn’t sure, but he figured that he was going to find out soon enough. This was interesting because no matter what she had kept her face away from him. It was as if she was doing all that she could to not look at him. He would lean closer as he figured that he would reply to her with the one answer she was looking for or at least he figured he would add more to it.

“Yes, I remember the first time we met. We spoke, I cooked for you, we flirted, teased each other, but things never went fully through because of my feelings back then. If you looking to see if I have moved on, then yes, I have.” He said as he was looking at her waiting for her to look at him and speak her mind.

Her eyes locked onto his as he drew closer and spoke to her, only for them to dart away again as he concluded his sentence. So he recalled most of what occurred, which was good, although he hadn't mentioned a crucial part.

"Yes, well, as you may recall..." She trailed off for a moment as she found the right words, "You promised you'd remember me the next time we met and well, you did." she added, smiling gently at the thought. Her mind then moved on to the memories they'd made together since that time. While she wouldn't call what she felt for him 'love' exactly, she did deeply respect him and most certainly found him attractive in a physical sense. Then again, the only 'love' she'd experienced before had been quite an ordeal, one only the man before her was aware of.

She wasn't sure if her few words would be enough to hint towards what she was implying and whilst she was usually so confident in regards to the subject matter at hand she suddenly found herself floundering and worrying. What if it changes things between them for the worse? This was one person she didn't want to lose in her life. What if he wants to be more than just friends after the fact? Her anxieties continued to grow as she overthought every little detail and thing that might change between the two should they go through with things. However, she was always one to keep her promises.

"Therefore, I should keep my side of that promise." She finally mumbled, again unable to look him in the eye as the worries within her continued to grow. Quickly she downed the drink at her fingertips once more, hoping the liquid courage would help her with what was to come should he accept her offer. If he wished to she'd happily take him back to her room or they would go to his, leaving the rest of the guild members here to enjoy the festivities without them. If not, she would probably have one more round then retire to her room alone to lament on things by herself.

Yuurei would hear her words and he did remember saying that to her. Of course, he wouldn’t forget her, and it was something he said. He smiled when he saw her smile because it seemed like she was happy about this. It wouldn’t take long before she said one thing and he would smile when he remembered what that promise was. He would look at his drink and he would finish all of it before standing up.

He would extend her hand out toward her. Once she had taken it, he would have walked her to his room and the two of them would enjoy their night together and fulfill the promise that she had given him the last time she was alone with him. It was going to be a nice night for the two of them, and the group that was there would continue to party in honor of all their friends that had suffered.

The bartender would return to see that those two were gone and she would smile because it meant they finally got a room. Yuurei would take Haru to his room, closing the door behind him once she was inside and that was all to be said after that.
