Yuurei

Yuurei and Renji were up for the day, they were geared up for the weather that was outside, and their bellies were filled from the meal that they had eaten beforehand.  Their job today was simple, and it was to go to the park and play a game of what was called chess. The half-elf had never heard of the game, but if he was getting paid to play, then what was the harm in that? It didn’t take long, but he would meet with the client, which was a young boy, even younger than him. It seemed like the kid was always prepared for this weather as he was covered up and ready to play. Bart would approach the duo and would raise his hand towards them for a handshake.

“You must be here to take on my request? My name is Bart Decker, you can have a seat.” He said to Yuurei.

Yuurei would shake his hand with a smile on his face and once he was done with that, he would find him sitting down without hesitating. Both would look at the pieces on the boards and they would find it fascinating that this was a game.

“The name is Yuurei and this guy right here is Renji. So how do you play this game?” He asked.

“Yeah how do you play this game?” Renji had also asked.

Bart was surprised about one thing, and it was the fact that the cat could speak, before commenting on that, he would explain to Yuurei and Renji the rules of the game and different simple tactics of the gamer. It took longer than expected for both to get it, but when Yuurei was confident enough he would let Bart know and their game would finally begin.

Yuurei

Yuurei and Bart would look at the board in front of them and after a bit of thinking the light mage would make his first move. The little boy was surprised how quickly he took his advice and tips and their game started. The thing about the game was that the half-elf would take a bit of time to make a move, but he was new at this whole thing.

“So do you enjoy coming here a lot Bart?” He asked wondering what kind of answer he would get.

Bart would make his move as he would look up to Yuurei.

“Yeah I do, it keeps me away from my house, which is a good thing for me.” He said as he frowned when he said that statement out loud.

Yuurei tilted his head as he looked at the young lad. There was something bothering him, and it seemed like it was something he could relate to. He figured he would speak up first so that he could make Bart feel comfortable in letting out what was bothering him inside.

“I get what you mean. Where I’m from people didn’t like me, and I felt like the people who took care of me were burdened too. I kept away most of the day isolated from everyone and constantly training alone. It was hard for me because I was half-human and half-elf. My parents disappeared when I was young, but now I know why. So I can understand where you’re coming from.” He said to Bart.

Bart heard Yuurei’s words as he was surprised that people went through things like this. He felt like his matter was smaller than anything now, but he figured he would vent to the guy who was able to tell his story even if he didn’t go into every detail.

“I been feeling so much pressure in my house as of lately. My parents think I’m a protégé and that I will make it far in life. They expect a lot from me, but when I look at my two brothers and what they have done it makes me nervous to the point I’m not sure I will be able to do what they’ve accomplished. I just want to enjoy myself and do what I love and leave a mark in this world the only way I can.” He said this to Yuurei.

Both of them continued to play their game of chess, while Yuurei thought about what to say, which wouldn’t take long for him to do.

Yuurei

While they were playing their game, and Yuurei was ready to talk, Renji had heard both of their stories and he was surprised more about Yuurei’s. He never heard him talk about his past, and when he heard that he was basically an outsider, the Exceed understood why he was so obedient and very quick to forgive. That wasn’t good and it made Renji upset to the core. Still, he did his best not to show it as it wasn’t the time. However, he knew that he was going to do his best to shape Yuurei to be a better and stronger person than he was today. The light mage would smile at Bart as he knew what to say now.

“Okay, so I say this Bart, you seem like a very bright kid, so I’m sure you’ll understand. You don’t need to compare yourself to your brothers. You are you and they are them, so in the end, you just got to make sure that you do what you feel is right. In the end, you are the only person who needs to make yourself happy. You don’t need to worry about anybody else. I can only assume that your parents are bothering you because they want what’s best for you.” He paused for a second to catch his breath.

“The thing is Bart, only you know what’s best for you, and your parents are only there to give you advice and nudge you in the right direction. I think you just need to take it one step at a time and do what you need to do. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, but trust me you will feel happy in the end.” He said this to him while they played the game.

It wouldn’t take long, but the game would soon come to an end. Bart had a huge smile on his face as he was surprised and excited Yuurei made it this far.

“Checkmate!” Bart would say as he got up from his seat and was waiting for another handshake.

Yuurei saw that he was beaten and would only lean back on his chair.

“Aww damn you got me good.” He would chuckle as he would get up from his seat and he would give Bart a handshake.

Both of them would smile as Bart was glad to speak to Yuurei and hear his advice.

Yuurei

It wouldn’t take long, but Bart would come around the table and hand Yuurei his reward. It was weird to get a reward for playing games, but he was fine with it. Bart would slightly bow to Yuurei as he was glad to have spoken to him.

“Thank you for hearing me out Yuurei. I will gladly take your advice and do exactly that. I need to think about myself and make myself happy.” He said to Yuurei.

The light mage would smile when he heard that because he was hoping he would do exactly that. Renji would nod as he had to give it to Yuurei on this one. It would seem like he knew what he was doing when it came to helping people out after all.

“Anytime you need me, Bart. Just put up a request with your name on it, and I will be sure to show up.” He said as they had exchanged their goodbyes and walked off to their separate homes.

While the half-elf and the Exceed walked back to the guild, Renji had something to say.

“That was quite interesting even though there weren’t any fighting of any kind. I didn’t know that about your past Yuurei. Do you want to tell me more about it?” He asked as he was curious about it.

Yuurei would look at Renji as he wasn’t sure if he was serious or joking around. In the end, it didn’t matter because he didn’t want to talk about it right now.

“I guess I can tell you about it, but not right now. I will tell you when the time is right, but for now, let’s just go home.” He said as they were heading to their next destination.
