Jove wrote:Jove's muscles loosened as he prepared to time his attack. Kaito's blade was about chest level as he slowly reached closer to the door with the other hand, and that's when Jove acted. He begun swinging, Jove's left side facing the door. The blade itself was aimed so that it'd pierce the door with the point of the blade a few inches to Kaito's left, so that as it swung it'd naturally make its way to him. Thus, right before his hand ever touched the door, the scythe blade pierced through the door. Since there had been no noise on the other side, as Jove had positioned himself so precariously to ensure he didn't have to move, there would be next to nothing with which Kaito could react to-
Nothing except the metal which pierced through the door, a mere foot or two from his face. In the time it took for him to process the metal coming through, even if his body attempted to react instantaneously, it'd likely be far too late. The scythe, mystically imbued to ignore equipment, would have its blade come at an angle that had it traveling around the sword which Kaito had ready to defend himself. Due to the unique shape of the scythe, the staff would be the closest thing coming to hit Kaito, though it wouldn't even make contact before the blade would bury itself into Kaito's chest, ripping across his skin and ribs. It'd be deep enough to bury itself into Kaito's lungs, and if he didn't move at all, into his very heart in order to end the battle.
My last 2 paragraphs described the setting, how you reached for the door, and how I timed my attack. To clarify, I have perfect unobstructed sensory of all physical and magical things within my range, so I am acting based on "seeing" everything you're doing and timing it accordingly.
Kaito wrote:Before Kaito could touch the door to attempt to open it his body just over 0.61 meters from the door meaning he is over a meter and a half from Jove when he swung, he heard something strike the door from the other side to his left and Kaito already being on guard from smelling the scent of the man here and the runes letting him know that their was a holder here, reacted by moving at an angle back and to his own right because the attack was coming from his left, just in time to see a blade rip through the door close to where he had just been standing Kaito is now over 3 meters from the door down the hall.
You are reaching forward with your hand to push open the door. The distance between us doesn't matter, as you describe in your post that the thing you respond to is the sound of my scythe's blade coming into contact with the door. I'd say with you leaning forward to open the door, about to touch it as the blade goes through, there would be a moment to process the noise you just heard and react. Then, even once you react, you need to perform the act that you're talking about.
With you reaching forward, you say that your body is .61 meters away from the door. Idk how you came up with that number, but lets use it. Assuming that my scythe swings as fast as spell movement speed (though there's an argument to be made about it being faster or slower depending on the stats and who is making the argument), we can use spell speed as a rough idea. Considering I was already fully swinging my scythe, and you were slowly but surely pushing your body forward in order to open the door, there are things we need to consider then.
First is that you're .61 meters away from the door, and you specifically begin to react at the sound of my scythe blade hitting the door. That means that from that moment, the absolute most distance my blade needs to travel before it reaches you is .61 meters- At 20m/s, that reaches you in .03 seconds. That alone I think is evidence enough for the hit, without going into how you'd need to pull back from the door, push off with your legs, etc. in that time span in order to try to dodge. This means it only makes sense that you take the damage IMO, so I will call it as such.
