A rough wind cut through the area, an uneasy feeling settling in. Curious, if not foreign, for such a place, and yet, for the Demi-Human who once upon a time and only just recently could have looked at this place, this city, as her home, to know that it would be only a short time before things changed left a sickening feeling within her. It made everything seem wrong to Vyra, the sense that her presence was neither a welcome one, nor one that should have been – nor would be – accepted amongst those who lived there. Including those within Blue Pegasus, the guild whose tattoo she had once worn upon her thigh, the stamp having been since removed, left with nothing more than a memory of what she had once upon a time, what had been taken from her, and worst of all, what she had allowed happen. As the wind cut through, she could only think of herself as being the one to blame for it all. As much as she would have welcomed the chance to blame someone else, in the end she knew exactly what the problem was was that she had allowed it all to happen. For what Vyra could have done different, she was now reaping the aftermath of it.

Sad, but not unexpected, nor should it have been. The nature of what she had done in the Northern-most parts of Fiore, though she had wanted to think that they were by her own hand, limited only to within the scope of those there, those who had endured and suffered beneath the hands of the former Lord Barothy, she figured that she would go down in legend, be a fable perhaps. Something that could be looked upon and thought of, but never truly realized, and yet, that was not what happened. Quite how it happened she still did not know, nor did she fully expect to every fully come to terms with that. The reality was, her role, for however she thought it to be for the betterment of the people, no different than the suggestion that the Rune Knights impeding and attempting to impose their own will upon Hargeon, she were no different. No in the exact manner, but certainly in the case that there were going to be situations that she did not understand, for one reason or another, and her involvement in the dethroning of Lord Barothy, regardless of how in her mind she felt it appropriate, may not have been felt by those otherwise within the region. She were the foreigner who had gotten involved in the affairs of the people native.

It would not have been any different than if she had witnessed what was playing out right now in Hargeon, but the circumstances having been different. The roles reversed in part, with Vyra no longer being the fragmented version of Lord Barothy, the entity that was prompting the drastic change of circumstances within this area, but instead were just a local. The deli owner whom was trying to survive, the hard-working man who slaved away at the port day in and day out, or even some of the other people whom had faces, identities, but otherwise to Vyra were unknowns, people that she would not be surprised or horribly stunned to believe that she may not see them again. In their shoes, she could understand, even come to terms with the fact that what she did, for however good in her eyes it may have been, much like that of the Rune Knights that occupied Hargeon now and thought that they were doing a good thing, it was not something that were clear cut black and white. There was a level of finesse in understanding the logic and reasoning behind it, and Vyra, for as young and at times naïve as she were, it was something that only now in retrospective, in looking back at how she played her role in all of these things, that she realized how grave of a mistake she had made.

It was too late to change things at this point, but how much she wished she coud. How much she would have preferred being able to go back and not have made the choices she made, the mistakes that were taken. Her finding the staff, that damned staff, which set all of this in motion. She could have just rested, she could have just spent time in Hosenka, enjoying a vacation that she still had yet had the chance to explore for herself, but no. Instead she had decided to get involved in a state of affairs that had no business either involving her, nor that she had the reasoning to be a part of in the first place. Yet her taking the staff, for what she felt may have been a good decision, instead turned into that of a nightmare. The staff could have been something that she just allowed rest there, but then she allowed her mind to wander, to wonder if the situation would have been worse for her herself. As much as she wanted to believe that there was nothing at all that stood to have been gained by her having ventured to the North, what she did realize too was her own personal plight, the affliction that was slowing destroying her, she would have remained as much in the dark about it if it had not been for her having gone there, seeing firsthand what it was that was tormenting her.

The darkness inside her, not since the realization of whatever it was that was inside her, the other her, that she had come to hate herself more. A monster, that was what she was. How she viewed herself, and there was little that made her believe differently. Still so many questions lingered throughout, just what it was that was afflicting her, what precisely the ‘Nightmare’ was, why it had targeted her, how had it targeted her. Was it the affect of her other self? A way to try to ruin Vyra’s life as she had seemingly vowed to? A chance to get back at Alisa, the woman whom in the limited interactions that the two had, it had been plainly clear that the woman that was the target of her rage and spite. It would not be something that passed Vyra’s mind, but it was impossible to say for certain unfortunately. Whatever the reasons for any of this may have been, the only thing that was absolutely clear was that there were no shortage of issues being faced within her internally, and while the horrifying thing that was afflicting her presently was nothing to dismiss, it did not erase that it ran against that of her own persona, both of them in direct conflict with Vyra over the how she sought to live her life. And it was playing out right before her, with her now there, upon the docks, without her Blue Pegasus tattoo.

If there was anything that she could take away from all of what had happened to her, if anything, it were the fact that she were still accepted by the people of the Hargeon Port, by the people of Hargeon by and large. Though some had turned their backs on her, some believing that she were the cause of the strife that recently had hit the area, there were those who still viewed her as a friend, as an ally of Blue Pegasus, and whether out of genuine concern or instead that of frustration in potentially severing ties with Alisa, they tolerated the Demi-Human. It was comforting, and a welcome feeling. Even for those within Blue Pegasus, she knew that the nature of being ousted from the guild was not her choice, not something that she sought out to have done to her, nor did she have any reason to believe that Alisa would have wanted it either. It broker the Demi-Human’s heart. She did not doubt that it broke Alisa’s heart as well. That some were willing to still look to her though, despite that, despite how quiet it had all been handled, and still view her like how they did once before, it was warming, if not slightly out of place.

They offered her something to do. Something to take her mind off of things. While it was certainly a risk, having Vyra remain in Hargeon while the Rune Knights were looking for her, there was little doubt in her mind that she would be at great risk while within the port area. History had shown that none were willing to mess with those who operated the area, the trading companies having won their war and now solidified that what they did, whom they worked with, and how they conducted themselves, was for their own nature and theirs alone. Nobody disputed that within the local government, and even Blue Pegasus seemed resign to allow that to happen. No point in getting involved in a war that was not theirs, and that level of neutrality helped Vyra, whom the people there recognized her not only as a local, as a neighbor, but also as a supportive friend within their plight. As such, it was only appropriate and fighting that upon her own struggles and her own respective plight that she be shown the same kindness that was given to them.

It worked out. Vyra would help them, operating in sort of the role as a lookout of sorts, happening to handle various different things that fell within her skill set, the people who operated the docks unaware of her Magical capabilities and for the better that they did not. Often, these just lent to them being jobs where she was watching out, making sure that nobody would be stealing anything, small things of that nature, nothing too serious, and nothing too terribly demanding. One thing that was perhaps unexpected by the Rune Knights arriving in Hargeon was the temptation to try to turn attention onto the trading companies. People whom were upset with them not having come out of their war with the politicians under harsh punishment, they sought to use the Knights arrival to apply pressure to them, even if it meant that Vyra would suffer in the process.

At times, they thought themselves successful, capable of being able to go ahead and acquire some leverage, maybe indicating stolen goods or other things, things that were often common knowledge amongst the people in Hargeon, certainly those who were used to dealing with the port and the trading companies. It should not have been a surprise then, that when they noticed Vyra there, or someone who at least looked a bit like her, albeit with red hair rather than blue, they turned their attentions towards trying to get the focus of the Rune Knights to investigate, but for as much of a good idea as that may have been, it proved to matter little. The idea that she would have changed her hair color seemed so crazy to that of the Rune Knights that they outright dismissed most notions of it, much to Vyra’s delight. And likely to the delight of many others.

But for those that were present and witnessed this attempted capture of Vyra, there was hell to pay. The people did not hide that they were angry, and the people who worked the ports were angry in turn, htus leading to situations were they were finding that people were being assaulted, roughed up in alleyways. Retribution. Heat brought on by the Rune Knights was not what the trading companies wanted, and if it meant that some people had to get hurt to make sure that it did not happen, then that was exactly what the people were going to do. Vyra did not seem to mind, as while she handled her own affairs at the docks, helping stop would be thieves and other criminal rising artists, it was giving her a chance to reflect and think. There would be something that she would have to do soon; she could not remain here forever and doing so would only put others at risk. Certainly something to ponder as she sat upon the crates giving watch.
