Right now it was currently night. Lots of dark spots for thieves to hide in. Plus the caravan was situated in kind of an annoying spot, with various streets and alleys leading to where she was. Probably why she was hired though. The merchant didn’t need to concern himself with this problem, she did. Still, as long as she kept her senses sharp, she doubted a mere thief would be able to sneak past her.
Walking around the caravan nimbly, Chie silenced her steps and kept to the shadows. It was better to be hidden for this sort of thing in her opinion. If someone was watching her, they could just sneak past her the moment she walked by. But if she remained hidden, the thieves would think the caravan was an easy mark and try to sneak inside without considering her. And that was when they would meet her fist! Assuming she found them at least.
As the night continued, Chie quietly sighed as she walked another loop. This whole thing felt a little boring, but unfortunately that was a good thing for a job like this. Sure if she found the thief, she’d have a brief moment of excitement. But if there was no thief, it’d probably be better for the merchant.
As Chie’s mind began to wander, she heard a sound from up ahead. Crouching low to the ground and sneaking forward quietly, she wondered if she had found her thief. Walking up to the slightly opened tent flap, Chie peaked through the small gap. Unfortunately for her, the source of the sound were two people messing about inside. And judging from their close proximity, the night had only just begun for the two. Leaving the couple to their shenanigans, the Rune Knight continued on with her guard duties. No items would be stolen as long as she was here!
The rest of the night passed slowly, but with no more incidents. Sure there were a few sounds here and there, but after further investigation, it was either animals or the wind. Once the sun began to rise in the distance, Chie waited by her post, humming to herself quietly. Hopefully with a few more jobs like these, she’d be able to promote to a Rune Knight Apprentice. She was out here doing good work after all! The dastardly thieves had been too afraid to even show their faces, like she suspected. Just the sight of her was already making waves. Imagine what would happen when she had her own badge to show off as well!
After waiting for a bit more, Chie was relieved from her duty by one of the caravan mercenaries. Taking the money and nodding her head in farewell, the young woman headed home. Another mission accomplished!
