It seemed Kaiser had picked up a new hobby during her time in Baska, aside from getting oil massages that is. Nona’s expertise in giving massages almost made her wait to start a business in that area and have Nona work for her there. She could just imagine money raining down on her and Nona if that idea came to fruition. But that was for a later time. Currently her favorite pastime was meddling in the business of the citizens of Baska, although of course not without their consent. She was simply helping them out with their dirty deeds for a small fee anyways. As of now, she was tied into the Cold Colliers’ business with the mines and the contractors. The most recent accomplishment of hers was getting the contractors identified and providing Mattoro with her discoveries in exchange for pocket change, really. Kaiser wondered if there were other third parties involved in this request. She could not wait to find out how this story was going to end.

The task of the day once again involved the contractors she had identified previously—she was to stalk one of them by the name Kalaus and find out even more about what was going on behind the scenes and bring dirt on him back to Mattoro. It was a fine Thursday and if not for the mission, Kaiser would have stayed in bed under the cozy covers until noon. However, duty called and she didn’t want to abandon this mission halfway through, mainly due to her curiosity of how things would turn out with the Cold Colliers and the suspicious contractors. Besides, she was enjoying the excitement of being back in action in the outside world. She could finally experience the rush of adrenaline once again, after being stiff and lifeless in that gloomy hole where she vegetated for several years. Nona had awakened hours earlier today and had been doing a massive cleaning of the entire villa. Kaiser left the villa to pay a visit to the first target of the day. It was Kalaus, the most suspicious of the three.

Kaiser was given the exact address of the contractor. She did not know how reliable that information was but it was not her job to worry about that. After a few days of being here, she had already figured out her way around the city area so it was not a problem locating the contractor’s home, or what they believed it to be. The directions from Mattoro led her to a vacant yet quite decent residence in a seemingly rich neighborhood. Most of the houses looked pretty similar save for a few. Being as sneaky as she could, the vampire slipped into the establishment using her own sneaky methods. She was a pro at this and has gone sneaking into places without being noticed for decades. It was especially easier once she turned into a vampire. She began to look for any kind of evidence that would prove he was not innocent in this whole incident.

It only took about an hour of meticulous searching to find something good enough. It was a letter from one of the other two contractors—Giroud, to Kalaus mentioning how they should have killed Mattoro off when they had the chance, and that Mattoro and his gang (the Cold Colliers) were being so troublesome for them. Kaiser almost pocketed the letter but then she remembered that she was supposed to make sure that Kalaus did not notice her break in, so she left the letter where she found it, in the correct position she found it in. Now that was two naughty boys caught in the act. It was not just Kalaus after all—Giroud was involved too. So that left only one of the three contractors and Kaiser had to make sure that he was also not involved. After leaving everything back in place, Kaiser left the empty house the way she entered it.

Since she had no address for Frankan, the last of the contractors to check, she had to go look for him and knowing that was going to require more time and energy than she had originally expected this mission to require, made a mental note to ask for more compensation from Mattoro. Anyway, fortunately for the vampire, Frankan was found in one of the most obvious places she thought of. Still, she was going to ask for more compensation from her client. Frakan reminded her of Frankenstein and she could not help but imagine his face like the monster. Kaiser finally found the man thanks to her great fortune and holy guidance from the gods. To her dismay, he did not resemble the fictional monster one bit, which was the first thing she told him when she met him. Frankan was quite confused but what she said next was even more confusing for him.

Kaiser unloaded all the dirt she had found out on Giroud and Kalaus onto the oblivious man who listened to her every word with a horrified expression on his face, eyes almost popping out of their sockets. She knew at that moment already that he could not be involved in any way with the other two and their plotting. It was just in the way that he was absorbing the information and reacting to it. “Alright, does any of this even sound familiar to you? You look clueless as shit,” she asked, tired after trying to get some information out of him. The confused man shook his head abruptly and admitted that he had not a single clue of anything she was talking about. “Thought so.” Kaiser left the man speechless and wide eyed in the middle of the street and headed back to give the information she had acquired to Mattoro. After doing so, she saw that Mattoro was visibly angered by Frankan and Giroud’s actions. Kaiser received her reward for acquiring the information and since her job was done, she headed straight back home.
