Talaz Lagaar

Description: Talaz Lagaar is an independent artificial island created over a thousand years ago in the endeavor to remove the creators from the affairs of those on the mainland. Built through a combination of Magic and great scientific advancements both lost during the Age of Forget, Talaz Lagaar is a unique artifact of an era long gone. Following the great disaster, magic is looked down upon by a majority of its citizens despite many of them possessing forms of magic one way or another. Instead many citizens rely upon their own ingenuity making robots and augmenting their own bodies to achieve goals arguably made easier through magic.

Localization: Talaz Lagaar was originally made with the ability to travel the sea close to the coast land of Earthland allowing it to travel as far east as Sin. Following the Age of Forget, Talaz Lagaar has remained stationary within the Fiorian-Minstreli Basin acting as a beacon of knowledge to its neighbors.

Politics: Created in a co-partnership with Joya and Bosco continuing to receive support from both countries to this day, the island following the succession of Hildegard formalized its independence from the two countries and established itself as a sovereign state ruled by an existing elective republic who have representatives of various factions within the island itself denoted by the industry they specialize in. Its overall effectiveness has proven questionable in recent times with reports of corruption and bribery plaguing many of the high-ranking officials. Rumors of rigged elections continue to escalate with each passing day as unpopular figures maintain power despite public opinion. Tensions between the existing government and its people continue to increase as the Talaz Lagaar government continues to remove itself from the rest of the world despite the pleas of its citizens. Movements against the harsh class structure continue to bolster in support with countless citizens disgruntled with their role in society forcing the government to implement policies such as mandatory curfew and minimized social groups.

Economy: The internal economy of the island is described by some as "naively socialist" with official citizens being guaranteed a generous standard of living. As a consequence, any form of currency is largely unneeded inside the island, its citizens instead are heavily incentivized to work for the island and its people. Grants and scholarships may be given through the government when needed for great projects. These are commonly used to influence citizens towards certain career paths or duties. As an artificially created island, Talaz Lagaar has no natural resources to trade, they instead offer services to other sovereign states such as the loaning of Memory Keepers, Hyper-Intelligent individuals who have had their personalities removed and augmented with Talaz Lagaar technology loyal to their masters only second to Talaz Lagaar itself. Countries with an aversion to augmented individuals are instead gifted knowledge from Talaz Lagaar annually in good faith from the island with concessions being offered to them such as food and other trade goods.

Culture: Talaz Lagaar was created by some of the smartest minds prior to the Age of Forget, these men and women ruled the artificial island in a manner that could be described as utilitarian as a consequence of the harsh circumstances around its formation. This mindset continued to resonate even to this day with a rigid class structure dictating a person's role within society from birth as a native citizen or upon reaching the island as an immigrant. Ranging from Diplomats to Flesh Shapers these roles are typically held for life however there are rare instances of people transitioning into a different one.

Due to the nature of its culture, Talaz Lagaar is heavily reliant upon immigration for a continued population. This form of citizenship is offered from around Earthland however a majority of accepted candidates come from Bosco, Joya, Minstrel, and Fiore in that order. Preferring to isolate themselves from the rest of society as a Government, citizens of Talaz Lagaar are rarely allowed to leave outside of diplomats to discuss political affairs with their neighbors or researchers looking to explore the wider world. As a consequence, great strain can be felt between the ruling class and the rest of the populace. Recent efforts to enforce open borders from their neighbors have led to little improvement with the island becoming more insular in these past years.

Religion: Talaz Lagaar in part due to its diverse multi-cultural background does not have a dedicated official religion instead allowing its citizens to practice their religions freely in private while in public displays of religion are more heavily criticized than its neighbors. More recently there has been heavy sway from a prophet within the halls of the mechanical island towards a "one true god" made from metal, not flesh or magic.

Language: With most of the citizens of Talaz Lagaar coming from regional countries surrounding the island, it is not uncommon for an assortment of languages to be heard throughout the island. An official language is not recognized however over the centuries of its creation, the citizens have begun to speak a blend of the many languages, creating their own language frequently called; Common Language by its citizens.

Locations

Fractured Sky: Created roughly at the same time of Talaz Lagaar, the Fractured Sky is a Power system that relies on Black Holes created through Magical means said to be responsible in part for the Age of Forget. The creation of such structures were lost and without the original engineers, citizens of Talaz Lagaar fear interfering with the device lest they spark another incident.

Inner Sanctum: Hidden within the heart of Talaz Lagaar, the Inner Sanctum was sealed after the Age of forget, it is said to hold the secrets of Talaz Lagaar, countless immortal mechanical guards in reserve ready to protect its horde. With the possibility of another Age of Forget occurring from the Inner Sanctum being opened even effort has been made to prevent entry into its halls.

Grand Harbor: One of the first established settlements in the artifact island, the Grand Harbor acts for most newcomers as the primary point of entry and is commonly the only area that foreigners may explore. Hosting great vessels from across Earthland, the Grand Harbor is said to serve as neutral grounds allowing rivaling factions to sign peace treaties without the threat of destruction from their enemy.

The Fabricator: Said to be made through the manipulation of magic and using the creative minds of the youth in Talaz Lagaar, the Fabricator is a powerful artifact capable of creating anything the user desires. Consuming an immense amount of power and resources, The Fabricator is said to drain more than half of the energy collected from the Fractured Sky.

Zero: Yet another artifact from the Age of Forget, Zero is said to be the first being created by the people of Talaz Lagaar before being destroyed amidst the confusing time. Today it is used as a monument to the scope of man's creativity and ingenuity. Prospective scholars of the colony frequently use the decaying relic for research papers.
