Toga

Ensconced within the circular chamber, Tōga sat centered amidst the expansive pearl walls. The ancient clock's rhythmic ticking permeated the stillness, its persistent refrain marking the gradual unfurling of time.

Tōga casually whistled and swayed, interweaving his own wandering melody into the clock's endless song. As the swaying clock hands etched each moment deeper into history's woven tapestry, the slayer's thoughts drifted, painted in hues of anticipation.

Soon, the first threads of an ordained new tapestry would arrive - one interlacing his fate with an unknown trio, binding them as comrades. Tōga inhaled slowly, envisioning those destined to join this room and his journey. Who were the souls fate had selected to stand united with him in sworn kinship?

Fiery eyes flickered towards the shut door, where soon their silhouettes would appear. Though they were still strangers, Tōga knew with time they would become irreplaceable family. Patience was key; fruitful relationships require careful cultivation.

To thrive, bonds must be watered by trust grown from fighting together, sheltered by loyalty forged in shared trials, and nourished by care that sees one through their darkest hour. Tōga yearned to walk each of those paths with his new squadron.

As the minutes passed in steady procession, Tōga's anticipation swelled like the mounting finale of the clock's ceaseless melody. Yet he willed composure to his features, smoothing any revealing wrinkles of eagerness. First impressions were vital - he must start their story with dignity and restraint.

Calmness eluded Tōga,but he found serenity watching crimson strands dance gently with each breath. Amongst the circular chamber's monochrome palette, his vibrant hair was a bold declaration of the fiery spirit smoldering within.

While his Rune Knight uniform concealed it, color also lay kindled beneath the unfeeling armor. Passion painted his soul in crimson, amber, vermillion - inextinguishable hues. The disciplined veneer of an impassive sentry was required at times, but the heart of a Dragon Slayer could never be truly caged.

As the persisting clock counted down to their destined arrival, Tōga's thoughts turned inwards. He had joined the Rune Knights to harness every ounce of growth this opportunity presented, both in power and bonds.

Already he had gained so much - purpose, insight, strength. But there were still vast horizons yet unexplored, and together with his new squadron, they would venture farther than any lone journey could ever reach. All that and more awaited beyond the shut door.

The vibrance of it all was almost innocent. The stony halls of rumbling with the heartbeat of adulation, of success. The air was charged, its energy wafting through every corridor and room. It was like going to school on the day of a field trip, the excitement and anticipation of change, something new and unexplored waiting around the corner. The headquarters wreaked of opportunity, lofty ambitions, and eagerness wiping away the mundane, stuffy nature of the Rune Knight’s base, if only for a day.

The inauguration of the new class of Rune Knights always injected a spirited pulse into Era. It was a celebration not only for those who had proven themselves worthy of enlistment but for their families and friends as well. For some, becoming a knight was a tradition, generation after generation pledging themselves to the duties of the organization. For others, it was a chance to start a new life for themselves and their families. A chance to be the change they would like to see, to right the wrongs they were all too familiar with.

And then there were those with less noble intentions.

The thirst for power, fame, and wealth, it was impossible to prevent these aims. The resources afforded to this institute provided avenues to that and so much more.

His role in all this was a bit more nuanced. A forced relationship that had become much more symbiotic over time, Saga was familiar with these walls well before he was considered qualified to serve them. He passed by his fellow graduates, their faces glowing and gleaming while he showed more uncertainty. Anxiety had crept into his spirit and took hold as his steps led him further and further from the grand hall where the inauguration ceremony took place and towards a much more daunting task.

”How should I introduce myself? What do I say? What if they’re annoying? Ugh…”

An exasperated sigh would escape his lips as his movement stopped in front of two ornate doors, both shut tight. The last bastion before a new journey was upon him, a myriad of emotions raining over him, but why? Was a first impression really worth all this turmoil? Why was this all affecting him so much? Questions upon questions mounted, the time to answer them all fleeting. So why waste it in the first place? Deep breath, compose yourself, believe in your next step, and make it.

And with that, the doors would open, revealing another soul that he was unfamiliar with. Can’t lose momentum now, time to see it through. Look him in the eyes, stand your ground, and be yourself. ”Yo, um, I’m Saga. Nice to meet you?”

Silence was a fickle friend, both one's greatest enemy and most steadfast companion. It forced inner reflection, where thoughts were judged only by oneself. In the stillness, layers of morality battled in vicious combat, with no outside arbiter to condemn or absolve. Yet silence could also nurture, instilling confidence when doubt crept in. It fortified the mind and spirit with intangible steel, able to withstand even the blows of gods. Silence cultivated calm and thoughtfulness, allowing one to truly take in the sounds of the world. In the quiet, it felt reassuring to know you alone existed in a place that often seemed wild and volatile.

But silence could also herald the unexpected, foreshadowing interactions and experiences typically uncovered in solitude.

Today, the grand doors split open, revealing darkness from the hall that swiftly spilled into the well-lit chamber. Tōga, his almond-hued eyes cutting through the void, observed as a shadowy figure took shape, defined by the embracing light.

"Yo!" exclaimed the Rune Knight, wildly waving his hand in the vast white expanse separating him from the newcomer.

In Tōga's sight, the newcomer's tanned skin gained substance, and fiery red hues met his brown gaze. Youthful exuberance radiated from both the newcomer's tone and physique, indicating he was just as much of a greenhorn in the Rune Knights as Tōga.

"Nice to meet ya, Saga—cool name, by the way," Tōga replied with a smile, offering genuine praise.

"I'm Himura Tōga, but you can call me Tōga. I'm not one for formalities like that," he added, patting the chair beside him with a resounding sound, breaking the silence in twain until his voice caught up with his actions.

"C'mon, take a seat!"

Energetic, vibrant, welcoming. Those were just a few adjectives that came to mind as Toga introduced himself. The tense feeling in his chest subsided almost instantly as he approached the seat next to his new squadmate. Not missing a beat, he would acknowledge the quip levied his way. "Back at you, Toga." A brief chuckle accompanied the words, and a slight smirk provided the finished touch to his amusement.

His leisurely pace helped contribute to an informal atmosphere, the time for grandstanding and ceremony had passed. There were no more speeches to be hard or awards to hand out, the real work began now.

Before you ever take a step on a battlefield, before you ever trot out onto a court or field, before you ever place the trust of success into the hands of those you call comrades, you had to build it.

Saga would take a relaxed position in the chair, continuing the banter as the goal of their encounter became affixed to developing a powerful bond. "You introduced yourself with your surname first, that's a Joyan custom isn't it?" Saga inquired genuinely, hoping to ignite meaningful conversation amongst themselves.

Toga

A wave of relief washed over Tōga as he took in Saga's casual demeanor and relaxed posture. The Dragon Slayer instantly recognized that this knight was different from the others he had encountered since joining the Rune Knights. Most of his comrades carried themselves with an air of solemn duty, standing apart from the very citizens they were sworn to protect. But Saga exuded an easygoing spirit that told Tōga this man didn't take himself too seriously. It was refreshing to meet a knight who could balance his responsibilities with an approachable nature. Tōga let out a deep breath, the tension easing from his shoulders. Perhaps this introduction marked the start of an unlikely friendship between a straight-laced slayer and a knight who marched to the beat of his own drum.

A smile spreads across Tōga's face as Saga inquires about his peculiar surname-first manner of address. "You have a sharp ear - I hail originally from Joya," the dragon slayer confirms with a nod. He notes Saga's perceptiveness in picking up on this custom carried from his roots in the faraway kingdom of Joya. Tōga's smile broadens, pleased at this opportunity to share a small glimpse into his origins with someone who listened with open ears and an interest in understanding his ways.

"Old habits die hard, I suppose," Tōga continues with a shrug, "but leading with my surname also pays homage to my people and traditions." He goes on to explain that in Joya, surnames before given names show respect for one's lineage and those who came before. "It honors the history of my homeland," he says. Tōga's voice takes on a wistful tone as he describes the kind-hearted, traditional nature of the Joyan people. This simple convention unconsciously links him to generations’ past and keeps their memory alive. Though far from his birthplace now, introducing himself in the Joyan style is a small way to stay connected to his roots and demonstrate quiet pride in where he came from.

Even in a new land, the ghost of custom still guides Tōga's words and keeps the echoes of Joya alive through each new introduction. It is a subtle, but meaningful touchstone to his heritage.

Where are you from?
