STELLA. Away from city lights and streetlamps, Nuala crouched comfortably on the ground, resting her back against a nearby wall. Her appearance was entirely obscured by a black cloak, and she had its dark hood pulled deeply into her face. Nervously, Nuala’s finger’s fumbled with what appeared to be a handwritten map – some sort of outline of a building or a hall, poorly crafted but greatly cherished by this one particular thief. The City of Gold, as Nenequetzal was known as, promised great treasures, endless riches, and more wealth than one could spend in a lifetime – at least that’s what the innkeeper at one of Fiore’s border towns had told her. She wasn’t one to believe baseless rumors and if there was really that much to get here, surely someone else would’ve shown up first, but her interest was piqued regardless and that’s why she’d decided to show up.
Besides, Nuala needed money. Badly.
The thief had been hit by a stroke of bad luck lately and was willing to go great lengths to recover her physical losses. Hesitantly, she pulled out what looked to be a worn, rust-covered dagger and gave the weapon a careful twirl. Nothing that would win her any great battles, obviously, but if things went according to plan Nuala would avoid battles all together. And if she was ever to be in a pinch, the dark-haired woman could be quite crafty. With a sigh, she put the dagger away and hushed down the street.
A ball was being held in the lobby of one of the government-related buildings im this area, and only the noble and wealthy were invited to these festivities. It was a perfect opportunity, just what somebody like Nuala was waiting for, but getting inside proved more difficult than she’d initially anticipated. Nuala had acquired what she’d hoped was the rough outline of the building, with the main lobby in the center, and potential entrances surrounding it. One of the hired waiters for the night had surrendered the information to her after being tickled by her rusty dagger, but now that she was here Nuala wasn’t certain how to proceed. She didn’t have a particular goal in mind either. In fact, this was probably the most unprepared heist ever, but her gut feeling told her that it’d still be worth it.
“Manhole, manhole, manhole.." she started talking to herself while studying the map. Manholes were a reliable way to get into buildings, but they were also quite difficult to coordinate. Still her best bet for now though, probably. Nuala snuck around the building, staying clear of the actual gate from where the guests were entering by walking around it with her eyes glued to the ground. The location of one manhole was noted on the map and she followed it closely until realizing, to her horror, that it was already occupied. A large man was standing on top of it, observing the crowd.
Surely if she waited a bit, he’d leave eventually. Right?
Right??
