Ittindi
Outfit of the day:

Ittindi and Sylvia were playing outside, the tower, the training grounds were immaculate. He had expressed his disappointment the other day at the garrison fearing the Herald. Since then, he had personally overseen cleaning of the facility, they quickly learned if they didn’t want morning cleaning routines it would be better to keep everything dust free. It still wasn’t up to Ittindi’s standards, but there was a point where you wouldn’t get much more effort out of the troops. A lesson he had to learn the hard way through his ascension through the ranks. Today Ittindi felt a nervousness akin to when he met the Herald, over something that he had done multiple times. Sparing Colonel Tōga, though this time was different, at one of their last meetings General Saturn had mentioned he wanted a Lieutenant General like an ace of a guild. Naturally, Colonel Tōga used it as an opportunity for another sparring match with the winner deciding who would be the LT.

Ittindi dressed down in one of his training outfit that only Lady Lumikki and the Young Master had seen. The men who knew Colonel Ittindi all looked shock to not see him in one of his usual suits, some even asked as if they didn’t know who he was without a suit. He couldn’t say he enjoyed the attention. At least outside with Sylvia everyone had opted to leave him alone, instead people watched from windows, roofs and other vantage points all to scared to see what it looked like when two colonels clashed.

Ittindi’s Dominator was in his harem pockets, while his Punisher laid just a foot or two away, it’d be Ittindi’s first weapon once Colonel Tōga appeared. His heart was racing and Naki had decided to stay quiet, knowing that he intended to go full out on the Colonel, if anyone could take it it’d be him. Though he had yet to see General Saturn in combat besides the Darkfang raid, Ittindi being to concerned with protecting the nullification mage he hadn’t the time to observe the growth of his compatriots. The thought of his Young Master losing control was something he had yet to push from his mind. It only made him thirst for power at a faster rate, he hadn’t been one of the ones to try and stop him. One of the harder applications of his discipline he wanted to ditch the nullification mage as soon as he heard the tower would rid him of that curse.

When Colonel Tōga appeared Ittindi would smile at his fellow Colonel, friend? Ittindi and Colonel Tōga’s relationship had started with drinking so he had always felt a kinship to the man. He’d stand up grabbing his cross gun and asking two simple questions.

”Colonel Tōga how far do you wish to be apart before we start? Do you wish to have any restrictions for this duel?”

The gentle rocking of the boat was pure torture for Tōga, waves of nausea washing over him as they approached the docks. His pink hair dangled limply over the vessel's edge, the salty breeze only amplifying his misery - a cruel reminder that dragon slayers and transportation mixed poorly.

"Otō-san! Get yourself together," Strigr's melodic voice cut through his suffering, sweet as honey yet tinged with exasperation.

"Oooooooi! I said s-stop c-calling me t-that!" he protested between waves of queasiness, words fracturing as he fought to maintain dignity. The deck spun beneath him, leaving him barely upright as his inner dragon raged against this floating prison.

Strigr, his divine dragon companion, stood beside him in her mortal form. Her mystical powers concealed her true nature - scales and tail traded for flowing blonde hair and delicate features that drew curious glances from the crew. They remained oblivious to the magnificent creature that walked among them.

"I don't know what else to call you, Otō-san. You're the only person I've known since I was little..." she said, her voice carrying both warmth and stubbornness. The surrounding sailors exchanged puzzled looks, struggling to reconcile how this woman - appearing no younger than Tōga - addressed him as a father figure. None knew of her true form and remarkably short time on Earthland. As Tōga's dragon slayer magic had evolved, so had she, ascending to a higher form. This transformation brought her speech and the ability to shift between forms at will. Yet despite her growth in power, she retained an endearing innocence that showed itself in moments like these.

"I k-know! Just don't call Lumi-chan mom or anything! T-that's wi---- ARGHH!" A violent wave of nausea cut off his protest. Just as he thought he couldn't endure more, the boat's motion slowed. They were finally docking, and with each passing second, strength flowed back into his limbs.

"Oh! I feel better!" Tōga exclaimed, straightening up with renewed vigor. Without waiting, he bounded off the vessel, greeting the assembled Rune Knights with perhaps excessive enthusiasm. Behind him, Strigr could only sigh at his dramatic recovery, following at a more dignified pace.

Some time later....

The trek through Vandor Tower island's lush landscape lifted his spirits further. "Oooooi! Ittindi-san!" he called out as they emerged from the dense foliage into the clearing before Vander Citadel. Knights of various ranks dotted the area, their casual poses belying the significance of the impending match. This wasn't just any duel - the victor would claim the coveted position of "Ace," second-in-command of the Rune Knights, by direct order of General Saturn himself.

Since his promotion to Colonel, advancement opportunities had been scarce, making this challenge particularly enticing. But the potential rank increase was secondary to the thrill of facing Ittindi again. There was something special about crossing blades with a friend who pushed one to absolute limits. Taking his position in what appeared to be a natural arena - though likely carefully engineered for such occasions - Tōga surveyed the audience. Strigr hung back from the crowd, her shy nature evident as she deflected admiring glances from male onlookers who had never encountered such an otherworldly beauty.

"We have enough healing mages around to fix any damage we cause, so no holding back is rule one!" he announced cheerfully, positioning himself roughly 35 meters from his opponent. "And let's start 30-40 meters apart? You decide!" His collection of blades waited eagerly at his side, ready to be called upon at a moment's notice. He couldn't help but notice Ittindi's unusual attire - a far cry from his typical formal butler's uniform. "Oh. Nice clothes! Never see you like this, hahaha!" he remarked, appreciating how his opponent's casual wear mirrored his own preferred combination of a loose red hoodie and black jogging pants.

Strigr sighed, mildly embarrassed by her surrogate father's untamed optimism.

"Good luck...." her words were soft though, wide, and one couldn't be too sure if they were meant for the dragon slayer, or his opponent across.

Ittindi
Colonel Tōga appeared with some women from the bushes, no doubt his girlfriend that he had spoken about in the past. She was conventionally attractive but dressed to scantily for Ittindi’s taste, that was something most women seemed to do. Colonel Tōga was in his usual outfit, one of the few that didn’t wear suits like the rest of the Rune Knights. No doubt his men of war followed similar habits, something Ittindi would never tolerate in his Ministry. She joined the crowd and Ittindi would nudge Sylvia to join in with the crowd instead of being by his side, no need to have damage to his companion. He’d walk back activating his armor as it coated his entire body until they were separated by 30 meters then he’d shout out to Colonel Tōga.

” 30 meters is more than enough for me. Good Luck Colonel, 3….2…..1”

Ittindi would open with a Kusarigama appearing from his left knee, then he’d use his punisher to slap it straight at Colonel Tōga’s chest. Its speed had been augmented from his training now faster than the bullet barrage he was firing shortly after, hoping that at least one of his shots or spell would connect. Ittindi prepared himself for the inevitable onslaught from Colonel Tōga’s all-to-familiar swords. Or perhaps today would be different after all, neither had seen the others spell the entire time they had sparred with each other. The other trick to Ittindi’s Kusarigama was it would try to impale once but with his magical prowess it would have a diagonal slice after the impale for less potency before it dissipated, something he had picked up rather recently. The 1-meter diameter magic seal appeared on the front of his Punisher’s barrel as he opened up with 3 shots.

The whole thing would be familiar to Colonel Tōga or his young master it was often his most common opening move. Like a practice chess board, Ittindi wasn’t much for variation just adaptation. His heart was racing for one of the few times in his life, like when he received his first pair of white gloves. That illusive adrenaline that so many warriors sought, Ittindi found it more than he’d care to admit, but he’d never see himself as more than a butler.

I can feel it Ittindi you plan on showing  your rebirth here don’t you. Are you sure you want the  rest of the Rune Knights to see that side of you?

A butler’s job was to serve, and he’d make sure that he’d get some real passion from the relaxed Colonel. Let all know whoever won this would not be for lack of trying, he wanted to see more than the heat of the young dragonslayers magic. The other day talking to some of his men they thought Ittindi’s apathy came from a sense of elitism. It couldn’t be further from the truth he just didn’t care for their daily lives they lived boring ones with basic dreams, he still cared about humans or order in the general sense.

Strigr lingered on the edge of the crowd, her golden hair catching the light as her eyes remained fixed on the battlefield. She stood at a safe distance, knowing full well the destruction that could unfold once the match began.

Tōga stood at the center of it all, his stance deceptively relaxed. His pink hair swayed lightly in the breeze, but his focus was razor-sharp. Across from him, Ittindi—the composed butler, armed and ready—agreed to the starting range with a calm nod before beginning a steady countdown.

Three... Two...

The weight of the impending fight settled in Tōga’s chest, each number tightening his grip around the hilts of his swords. His heart drummed in sync with the countdown, his fingers flexing against the worn leather of Zangetsu and Rengoku.

One.

Tch!” Before the final word had fully escaped Ittindi’s lips, Tōga moved. Instincts honed from countless battles propelled him to the side, his body a blur as he narrowly avoided a chain of pure mana that carved through the air where he’d stood. His sharp eyes locked onto the ethereal weapon, noting its speed and precision. Fast—and no magic circles? His thoughts raced as he analyzed the attack. Ittindi’s control over mana was both efficient and deadly, a seamless fusion of utility and speed that left little room for error.

Keeping Zangetsu raised to guard against a possible follow-up, Tōga’s gaze shifted. The butler wasn’t done. From behind the chain came a massive firearm, its barrel glowing as it charged with energy. A mana circle flickered to life, and a series of glowing projectiles erupted from the gun’s mouth, each one aimed directly at the dragon slayer. The shots were slower than the chain, but Tōga knew better than to underestimate their power. Even with the protective armor hidden beneath his hoodie, taking a direct hit from those blasts wasn’t an option. His grip on Rengoku tightened as the blade began to hum, its core heating until flames danced along its edge. In one swift motion, he swung upward, releasing a wave of fire1. The inferno surged forward, forming a blazing shield that consumed the incoming bullets in a violent burst of heat and light.

But Tōga didn’t stop. He slid to the right, using the fiery barrier as cover to reposition himself. Emerging from behind the wall of flames, he wasted no time in countering. With a practiced swing of Rengoku, he unleashed a torrent of fire—wild, consuming, and aimed with deadly precision at Ittindi2. The butler had seen this technique before, but Tōga wasn’t one to rely on the same tricks without refinement. If the flames struck, Ittindi would feel the evolution of Tōga’s power, the difference between their last battle and this one.

The attack was a feint as much as it was an assault. Tōga sheathed Rengoku mid-motion, his hands now free as he shifted gears. His path zigzagged unpredictably, closing the distance between them with each step. His movements were sharp, and erratic, designed to keep Ittindi guessing. At ten meters, he slowed, his right hand sparking to life as embers flared, growing into a swirling mass of concentrated heat3.

Saturn
It wasn’t long before echo’s knuckles rapped on his door, that his head shot up from the book that he had been reading. A history book of no importance, the Demi-god mindrache looked baffled but Saturn knew immediately what this was about. He already knew that they would be fighting. Hell he had jokingly suggested it; not even ordered it he felt. The rune knights needed a definite second in command and the two were the only ones he could reasonably pick. But the problem was that both of them were without a doubt the best of the best.

Saturn’s ears stood perked even as he hurried; straining to hear the battle. He was so damn far away from the fight that it’d take him ages to get there huh. Sure he had meant it as a joke but he wasn’t expecting them to take him seriously. Echo was much faster than saturn was but the big mindrache didn’t dare suggest that he’d carry the general in front of the rune knights that hurried out of his way.

His armor adjusted slightly as he ran; his long strides carrying him quickly through the town that sat around vander tower’s citadel. It wouldn’t take him long to arrive on the scene where the two were already going at it. Some of the knights nearest him were shocked at the sudden appearance of not only saturn but the mindrache next to him. The both of them stared at the ongoing fight.

Toga was closing in on Ittindi, looking like he was going to do something devilish. Saturn had to wonder just how much both of their skills had grown since the last time they met. Saturn knew that toga and ittindi were powerful; that they stood up against darkfang back in the ‘raid’ of sorts. Echo’s head cocked to one side and he’d look to saturn after a moment.

They haven’t even started to get serious yet I think.

Not even in the slightest, this is just them testing one another.

Saturn folded his arms, watching from a distance. He didn’t want to distract the two. But the sudden appearance of the general and the protector of Vander tower’s resident Mindraches would probably turn some heads for a moment… then right back to the fight. It wasn’t every day you got to see two of the highest ranking knights; saturn would with an annoyed smile sign some letters that were directed his way as he was never one to shy away from work.

Loser’s buying the first round right?

He would teasingly call out to the both, giving a wave. Echo on the otherhand simply facepalmed. He looked exasperated that his partner could take something like this so lightly. The massive mindrache was only slightly shorter than his partner but had a full range of visible emotions while saturns were constantly hidden behind that strange smile.

Hospital bill is more like it…

They’ll know better than to seriously hurt one another Echo relax.

You’re not worried that whoever wins might challenge you?

To be general? No. To fight? Maybe.

Saturn shrugged and noted that there were a few regular sized mindrache in the crowd that couldn’t see over the heads of the knights. Scooping them up he’d put two on his shoulders and he’d let the third sit on his left arm like a platform. No reason for them all to miss this right?

Ittindi
Ittindi was surprised by Colonel Tōga dodging his first attack and the follow up, raising his sword fast enough to intercept the bullets with some kind of flame wall. Ittindi would see his movement to the right as Colonel Tōga prepared a familiar slash that came soaring straight in his direction. Ittindi’s danger sense triggered before the roaring animal fully formed.  He’d stomp on the ground as a magic seal would appear underneath him propelling him 20 meters into the air at an angle. Moving backwards around 9 meters and reaching a apex height of 18 meters. While in the air soaring over the flame animal Colonel Tōga had conjured, he’d fire one of his larger rounds. Colonel Tōga was strafing, but that didn’t matter when you fired an explosion. Expecting him to try and eat the flames from his explosion he prepared a follow-up with his cheeks puffed wide.

Don’t use too much at the start Ittindi don’t forget how you drained yourself so quickly at Darkfang’s castle.

Blowing out a ball of miasma that would dissipate around Toga, he wasn’t sure if this would hit with how fast he appeared to be. So instead of going all out he’d use one of his lighter spells, saving the best for when he inevitably closed the distance in the air.  He had seen Colonel Tōga fly before, but now Ittindi had the same trick if he wished to engage in air combat.  He imagined their battle would take many dimension, better to lead Colonel Tōga into a better position for what would come next. He considered pulling out his naginata early, but decided to see what path Colonel Tōga would take to reach him first. He could see something forming in his hand, but his danger sense hadn't reacted to it yet so he assumed there was more time.

Better to save the melee for when we’re a little more charged from death. You haven’t had much practice with that level of power yet Ittindi.

He had many thoughts on how best to fight a melee fighter like Colonel Tōga, some spells that he had yet to train. Others that were already available to him, though he had a feeling this fight would solidify his future training plans. Naki had been preaching to him lately that with every death that he was growing stronger, and unusual feature from his unique transcendence past a regular human. It seemed that Colonel Tōga had found something similar from his aura. Though he didn’t glow gold like Ittindi so their were still some differences.

Meanwhile, in the background, there were people pointing at the battle. Some taking pictures others taking bets on who was the most likely victor. The field was still quieter than what one would expect. No doubt out of curiosity if either were trash talkers, Ittindi had never talked much in combat. Leaving his actions to speak, in their arena fights Colonel Tōga seemed much the same. That was until the General appeared, he of course cracked some jokes. Which caused the tension in the air to disperse amongst the crowd. Ittindi was too focused to give it to much heed to the General's words.

Tōga narrowly avoided Ittindi’s initial attack with a combination of quick reflexes and simplicity. The chain had snapped toward him with incredible speed, closing the distance in the blink of an eye. His escape had been minimal but effective. He knew, however, that such fortune wouldn’t last. Ittindi’s precision and velocity weren’t something to underestimate, and the dragon slayer understood that a single misstep could render future evasion impossible. Each move the steward made revealed valuable data, and Tōga was already piecing together the dimensions, velocity, and behavior of Ittindi’s strikes. He would have to move smarter, not faster.

In response, Tōga unleashed his own counter. Rengoku burned brightly in his hand, its flames twisting into the shape of a dragon as they surged toward Ittindi. He didn’t expect the attack to land; this was a calculated move, more about keeping pressure on his opponent and learning how the butler would respond. As expected, Ittindi manifested a glowing magic circle—a curious development given the indiscernibility of circles on his earlier attack—and took to the skies with a graceful, diagonal leap, nearly 20 meters high and nine slantwise.

Huh,” Tōga mused, his eyes narrowing. His pursuit didn’t falter. He weaved across the battlefield, one hand still glowing with luminous aura, the other gripping Zangetsu tightly. Ittindi’s ability to fight in multiple dimensions was a challenge, but Tōga was determined to adapt. The telltale hum of the Punisher pulling into position caught Tōga’s attention. The butler took aim, and moments later, an explosive round screamed toward the ground. Tōga’s erratic movement saved him from a direct hit, but the blast radius was unavoidable. Mid-leap, the shockwave clipped his foot, jarring him off course but not breaking his momentum. His armor, reinforced and durable, absorbed most of the impact, and his natural resistance to fire lessened the damage.

Using the force of his leap, Tōga propelled himself forward, closing the gap between them. His fiery-charged hand extended upward as he approached from below, aiming to land a hit even if he took another in return.

Just as he prepared to strike, Ittindi released a miasmic cloud from his mouth—a toxic smog that spilled out and began to saturate the ground. Tōga’s response was immediate. From his outstretched hand, thin beams of concentrated heat erupted, streaking through the air like ribbons of sunlight1. Each beam moved with the same incredible speed Ittindi had displayed earlier, twisting and pirouetting as they homed in on their target. These radiant streaks weren’t just projectiles—they stalked their prey, adjusting mid-flight to chase their mark. Even if they didn’t land a direct hit, their radiant energy was disorienting, a heat so intense it warped the air around it.

As Ittindi reacted, Tōga pressed his advantage. Zangetsu glowed with divine energy as he dragged the blade upward in a powerful arc. A slash of pure light erupted from its edge, racing toward where he anticipated his comrade might move2. Though it was one of the weapon’s weaker techniques, it was enhanced by the divine energy of his dragoness, adding enough force to make it a serious threat.

Ittindi
Ittindi was surprised by the course taken by Colonel Tōga. Instead of eating his flame he let it clip him and dodged his miasma instead. What came next was a spell that Ittindi had been theorizing for himself, one that could curve and follow the opponent, it looked like he’d have to show off his armor true power to the Colonel sooner than he expected. It would retreat inside to that black space where his Naginata resided. As the flames continued to readjust as Ittindi dove downwards he'd shield his vitals with his body as the fire crisped the skin on his left arm. Not enough to cause any severe damage, he had expected to expend his first life in a perfect position, but there was something more precarious.
He lost his sight, the first time it had ever happened. Luckily for him he had his danger sense, though it would only pinpoint directions within 20 meters. He felt it start to tingle from Colonel Tōga’s follow up attack. He didn’t have time to cast a spell with the distance between them, instead using his Punisher to body block whatever spell was aimed at him. Its impact made the gun shudder, as Ittindi landed on the ground. A shame he didn’t get to see what move Colonel Tōga had unleashed on him. The rest of the fight wouldn’t prove to be much of a lesson on his attacks like he originally had hoped for. Colonel Tōga always seemed to be the most with his foot in the door for the Rune Knights, Ittindi wanted to prepare if he ever did decide to leave. He didn’t immediately feel where Colonel Tōga was, it’d have to be off his next moves at least until he regained his sight.

” If this is permanent blindness you’re buying me new eyes Colonel.”

Ittindi was of course joking as he spoke he slung his Punisher to his back. He’d have to melee until his vision was back. No point in trying to aim in complete darkness even if he got echoes from his danger sense. He’d put his left arm across his chest as a 1x1 meter shield appeared on his forearm. Without his armor on the grey magic seal would appear across his forearm. Assuming a shoulder width positioning, Ittindi didn’t seem worried at all as he put his fists up. There was an aura of determination, along with his golden glow that had Ittindi centered. His eyes closed Ittindi was also surprised to see all the talk about having heightened senses when losing one was a crock of horse dung. He wondered after his first death if his eyes would be repaired, he had seen it have that effect on his arms and legs thanks to his newest item.
