Journey to the Castle [Ikazuchi] Empty Thu Nov 14, 2024 7:03 pm

Tsukishima Higurashi
After purging the last traces of dark magic from the children, Tsukishima met Ikazuchi’s gaze, and an unspoken agreement passed between them. The village’s youth were safe, but a darker threat lingered nearby; the source of the Yoki had yet to be found. If left unchecked, its corruption would spread and threaten everything in its path. Casting a final glance at the now-quiet village, emptied of possessed cries, they turned toward the looming mountain. Through the mist clinging to the rugged slopes, the faint silhouette of the ancient castle appeared. The dark and ominous shape imposed against the twilight sky.

As they began their climb, Tsukishima unexpectedly broke the silence. “Thank you for handling that. Large groups of humans like that… bring up memories I’d rather forget.” His voice was flat, a rare hint of vulnerability flickering through. He assumed Ikazuchi wouldn’t ask for details but felt the need to say it all the same. They hadn’t walked far when Takumi, the village elder, approached; his weathered face etched with worry. "You’re heading up the mountain?" he asked, his voice trembling with a mixture of fear and respect. Tsukishima gave a firm nod and Takumi looked down. His fingers twisting anxiously in the folds of his cloak as he struggled with something unsaid.

It’s no simple climb, and that is no ordinary fortress,” Takumi warned, his voice grave. “The castle is a relic from a very dark age. Some say the Yoki you’ve felt isn’t just magic; it’s the lingering souls of the ancient ones that chained to this place and furious at the living who dare tread near.” He paused, his gaze drifting to the mist-draped peaks above. “Those who brave the mountain must be ready to face not only creatures possessed by the Yoki, but curses as old as time itself. Few who venture up return whole… if they return at all.” Tsukishima’s eyes sparkled with a thrill he rarely showed. This was the kind of challenge he relished. One that could truly test what his new body could accomplish. Sensing Tsukishima’s eagerness, Takumi pressed on, his voice dropping to a murmur. “There’s a path, steep and treacherous, winding up the eastern face. It’s the fastest way but even the mountain seems to fight those who come with ill intent. Listen to the whispers on the wind, heed the shadows; they are more than just a legend. We’ve also found a longer route to the west. It’s safer, more concealed. With caution and cunning, you might even reach the castle unnoticed.

Tsukishima chuckled, casting a glance of acknowledgment towards Ikazuchi before setting off toward the eastern face. Takumi’s eyes widened as he realized their intent. “You’re not… you’re not going the safe way?” he asked, incredulous. Tsukishima didn’t turn back, his voice carrying through the mountain air. “As tempting as it is to slip by, I think I can speak for both of us when I say, that’s not how we do things. We’re going straight through. Whatever lies in wait, we’ll consider it a warm-up. That’s just how our guild operates.” With that, the two moved with purpose, shadows lengthening around them as they ascended up the path.

The air grew colder, biting through their cloaks, as the mist thickened around them, obscuring their path and casting an eerie silence over the mountain. The narrow trail wound upward, flanked by jagged rocks and steep drops that would have been treacherous even by daylight. Shadows shifted at the edges of their vision, gliding silently among twisted trees as though the mountain itself was holding its breath. It wasn’t long before they encountered the first of the possessed creatures. From the mist, a pack of wolves emerged, their eyes glowing with the same sickly golden hue that had marked the children. Tsukishima’s gaze narrowed, noting the disturbing jerkiness of their movements, as if invisible strings controlled their bodies. The wolves’ growls were guttural, almost disturbingly humanlike. Tsukishima drew his daggers, their edges gleaming as they caught the faint light piercing through the fog. His pulse quickened with a thrill he rarely indulged, a primal urge cut loose. These were no helpless villagers, no innocent children; here, he could unleash himself fully. The wolves lunged, their teeth bared in unnatural snarls.

The first wolf’s leap was met by Tsukishima’s deft sidestep, his dagger slicing through the air to deflect its gnashing jaws. His second blade found the creature’s shoulder and he felt a surge of dark energy ripple through the weapon. The Yoki’s grip was severed in an instant, the glow in the wolf’s eyes dimming as it collapsed, free from the vile influence. The wolves’ golden eyes flickered as if sensing the strength of their opponents and yet they relentlessly charged. Tsukishima dispatched another wolf, each movement precise and swift, drawing the life-sapping energy from its body as he released it from its misery. Beside him, he could see Ikazuchi brace himself for the onslaught. The wolves’ golden eyes flickered as if sensing the strength of their opponents, yet they charged on, relentless. Tsukishima dispatched another wolf, each movement precise and swift, drawing the life-sapping energy from its body as he released it from its misery.

Ikazuchi

Ikazuchi’s mind lingered on the desperate pleas of the mother who held her injured child as they made their way to the mountain’s path with Takumi’s guidance. His soft spot for family and children made the experience particularly gut wrench. He suppressed guilt deep within, even though no one blamed either of them for the injuries. Whether it be him or Tsukishima, both developed a determination to get to the source and pull it out by the roots. The fact that neglecting to do so would result in these events repeating time and time again was enough of a reason for Ikazuchi to resolve himself. His resolve was strengthened to the peak when his guildmate unexpectedly thanked him only a short distance into their journey. “No problem.” It was a curt response, one that he hadn’t even considered before giving. His attention was elsewhere, like a sword pointed at the castle that waited for them.

It was at this point that Takumi approached and inquired about their intent. In response, Ikazuchi nodded along with his companion in confirmation. The following introduction to the paths comforted him as it was clear that even this fearful Elder was doing everything in his power to support them. The tension carried in his expression was gradually released as a friendly smile made an appearance. He also noticed the eager excitement coming from his companion throughout Takumi’s warning. ‘...Makes sense, I guess. As a former lich, this is exactly what he knows best.’ There was a hint of judgment, but he didn’t hesitate to move towards the more treacherous eastern path alongside his companion. Spellcutter and Clarent were summoned into his left and right hand respectively as he prepared himself for anything that would come.

Hearing Tsukishima’s parting statement, he couldn’t help but chuckle. While that certainly was the truth, it was odd to hear it come from someone who was so anti-social just a few minutes prior. Out of respect for his efforts to reassure the Village Elder, Ikazuchi left those as the final parting words. Due to their silent steps, the old man could only rely on his aging eyes to watch their ascent for as long as possible.

Seems like it’s time to get started, huh?” He spoke these words casually as he noticed the approach of the wolves as soon as they entered within twenty five meters of him. Each of Ikazuchi’s steps as they made their way up the path contained a level of confidence and certainty that could only be described as abnormal. Neither darkness nor mist had been able to hinder him in the slightest, progressing along the path as if there weren’t any obstacles at all.

The first two wolves were easily handled by Tsukishima and his daggers, something Ikazuchi didn’t even bother glancing at. His domain-like perception was sufficient for him to know that his guildmate’s methods were as effective on the wolves as they had been the children. He couldn’t help but shake his head slightly as his determination to act without reservation pushed him forward. “Try to keep up.” These were the only words he had for the former lich as he burst forward at maximum speed.

On this narrow and treacherous path, the idea to rush ahead with such acceleration would normally be considered dangerous if not outright suicidal. While Ikazuchi had many advantages that allowed him to perform this feat with ease, he knew that this may not be the case for his companion. His provocative statement was a genuine request, one that he hoped could be fulfilled. The ease with which his companion navigated the darkness gave him enough justification to place that hope on him.

What followed that sudden burst of acceleration was a merciless sword dance as a small platform of mana occasionally appeared beneath one of his feet to maintain optimal footing. Although he did consider the creatures pitiful, he didn’t have any qualms snatching the lives of the possessed wolves. His first swing of Spellcutter directly decapitated the first wolf that attempted to lunge at him.

His aggressive push forward drew more attention to himself as these creatures were sentries for the path. His goal wasn’t to prevent them from passing, that was theirs. Even if a wolf slipped by, its goal could only be his companion. Their single opportunity to put him at a disadvantage had been when they were still in a village full of burdens; now, whoever or whatever could only wait and experience the wild hunt that targeted them.

Using his unique footholds, Ikazuchi was able to maneuver himself in a broader range above the wolves or to the side of the path away from the cliff face. Anything that entered within the range of his swords was met with a fluid slash, as if offering their neck or body to his blade. This was due to his perception giving him a higher capacity to analyze and respond to incoming threats in a three-dimensional manner. As a result, Ikazuchi became the ideal spearhead for the duo as his courageous charge continued.

It didn’t matter if it was a wolf, a mountain lion, or even a bear. WIth a slight shift of his step and adjustment of his arm, his blades accurately slashed, stabbed, and tore at the vitals of countless creatures. For those felled by Spellcutter, a similar scene compared to Tsukishima’s strikes could be witnessed as the dark energy seemed to corrode under its edge. At the same time, Clarent was always prepared to unleash a violent blast should an overwhelming number of creatures assault them for any reason.

Outside of his foes, he made sure to continuously monitor his companion in his perception as they moved forward. He had little concern for the trail of blood and destruction they left in their wake, but he would intentionally match his guildmates pace whenever necessary. Both his acceleration and speed exceeded Tsukishima’s, so Ikazuchi felt it was his responsibility to remain at the appropriate distance to ease the burden of following him forward.

#3Tsukishima Higurashi

Journey to the Castle [Ikazuchi] Empty Wed Nov 20, 2024 5:26 pm

Tsukishima Higurashi
Tsukishima watched Ikazuchi’s relentless advance with a rare glint of intrigue in his crimson eyes. The swordsman moved like a storm given flesh, every strike precise and unrelenting. Each strike expertly calculated to leave no margin for survival. The sheer ferocity of Ikazuchi’s technique was tempered by a level of control that bordered on artistry. Tsukishima found himself captivated by the fluid yet ruthless rhythm of his guildmate’s swordplay. Tsukishima paused, idly flicking his daggers to shed the blood of the wolves he had dispatched, their bodies already dissolving into the shadowy underbrush. “Not bad,” he muttered, his voice devoid of enthusiasm, masking the flicker of admiration that threatened to surface. His usual detached tone carried none of the awe stirring within him, only a cold indifference that had become his trademark. But his mind was less composed.

As he followed in the wake of Ikazuchi’s destruction, stepping over the cleaved remains of creatures foolish enough to challenge the swordsman, his thoughts churned with possibilities. Ikazuchi’s prowess wasn’t just impressive; it was a potential tool. If this level of ferocity could be harnessed for their mission, it might shift the balance in Tsukishima’s favor. And beyond the mission? The implications were tantalizing. “Perhaps he could help with that…” he thought to himself. Tsukishima’s gaze lingered on his guildmate for a moment longer than necessary. Respect was a luxury he afforded few, but Ikazuchi had earned a sliver of it tonight. That, however, did not diminish the ever-present calculation behind his crimson eyes. Strength like Ikazuchi’s was both an asset and a threat; and Tsukishima would ensure it served his purposes.

Their momentum faltered as a guttural growl rippled through the mist-laden woods, a sound so deep it seemed to reverberate in their bones. From the shrouded treeline, the alpha wolf emerged, its grotesque form a nightmarish amalgamation of beast and abomination. Its twisted frame pulsated with corrupted yoki, veins glowing faintly beneath matted fur that gleamed like tarnished steel. The creature’s crimson eyes burned with malevolent intelligence, locking onto the outsiders with an almost otherworldly hatred. Each breath from its maw carried an unnatural heat, the oppressive energy distorting the air around it like a furnace. To this monstrous leader, the lesser wolves that had fallen earlier seemed almost trivial in comparison. “Well, that explains the lackeys,” Tsukishima remarked, his tone as cold and detached as ever. His crimson eyes flicked over the creature with measured precision, already analyzing its movements, its weaknesses, its potential. He stepped forward, his twin daggers catching the dim light and reflecting it in jagged flashes. “This one’s mine,” he said flatly, his voice devoid of bravado yet carrying an undeniable finality. Without sparing Ikazuchi a glance, he moved past him, a deliberate stride cutting through the fog like a blade.

The alpha wolf let out another growl, low and rumbling, as its stance shifted as it prepared to lunge. Despite its hulking size, the creature moved with the lithe grace of a predator. Tsukishima remained unfazed, his movements calculated and presence sharp and commanding. There was no flourish in his steps, no wasted motion, only the stark confidence of someone who had faced horrors before and triumphed. The oppressive air seemed to thicken as Tsukishima entered the alpha’s range, the corrupted energy pressing down like an invisible weight. He paused just long enough to offer one last remark, almost as an afterthought. “Don’t interfere. This won’t take long.” Then, without waiting for a response, he vanished in a blur of motion, daggers gleaming as they sought out the first opening in the wolf’s seemingly impenetrable defenses. The alpha snarled, its massive body coiling like a spring as it dropped into a predatory stance. In an instant, it lunged, a blur of grotesque speed that defied its immense size. The ground trembled beneath its charge, claws rending the air with lethal intent. But Tsukishima was ready. With an elven grace, he sidestepped the attack, his daggers flashing in a precise counter strike that tore deep gashes along the beast’s flank. Blood sprayed in dark arcs, sizzling as it struck the rocky path, the air thick with the stench of corruption.

The clash that followed was a storm of motion and violence. The alpha lashed out with claws the size of scythes and snapping jaws capable of crushing stone. Each strike came dangerously close, its sheer ferocity threatening to overwhelm even the most seasoned of warriors. Yet, Tsukishima danced through the onslaught, his movements a blend of power and elegance. His daggers struck like fangs, carving into the beast’s hide, drawing more of its corrupted blood with each calculated slash. Tsukishima’s focus was absolute, his crimson eyes tracking every twitch, every feint of the monstrous wolf. He moved with surgical precision, exploiting every opening with merciless efficiency. With each blow, the wolf grew slower, its movements losing their feral fluidity as its corrupted energy drained away. The alpha howled, its voice a haunting mixture of rage and desperation as its strength waned. But Tsukishima was far from finished.

With a sudden burst of speed, he vaulted onto the creature’s back, his boots finding purchase on its matted, steel-like fur. Before the beast could react, he drove one dagger deep into the base of its skull, the blade sinking to the hilt. His free hand pressed against the wolf’s thrashing hide, and he began to draw on the very lifeforce of the beast. The alpha bucked and thrashed wildly, its massive frame shaking the earth as it fought to dislodge him. But its struggles grew weaker, its howls softer, as the essence of its being flowed into Tsukishima. The vampire’s eyes glowed with an unholy crimson light, his aura intensifying as the stolen vitality coursed through him, rejuvenating his form. His once-calm expression twisted into something darker, a reflection of the power he consumed. With a final, pitiful whimper, the alpha collapsed. Its massive body convulsed once before dissolving into ash, leaving only the faint, lingering echo of its corrupted energy in the air. Tsukishima stood over the remains, his daggers gleaming in the eerie light. He rolled his shoulders, testing his renewed strength, before turning his gaze toward the mist-shrouded forest ahead. “Pathetic,” he muttered, the word laced with disdain as he sheathed his blades. The fight was over, but the hunger for more lingered in his eyes, unquenched.

The remainder of the climb was marked by their grim efficiency. With the alpha vanquished and its pack scattered, the corrupted beasts that remained offered little resistance. Tsukishima moved with quiet precision, stalking behind Ikazuchi as they ascended the rugged path. Each strike of his daggers was swift and surgical, eliminating stragglers with an almost mechanical efficiency. The silence between them was not awkward but deliberate. Words were no longer necessary; both understood the weight of what awaited them. The castle loomed ever closer, its silhouette becoming sharper as the oppressive mist thickened around them, clinging to their forms like a living entity. The air was heavy with Yoki magic, its oppressive presence a noticable hum that resonated with Tsukishima’s heightened senses, stirring a faint unease even within him. When they finally reached the castle’s base, the full magnitude of the structure became clear. Jagged spires clawed at the overcast sky, their edges sharp and unwelcoming. The windows, mere hollow eyes, stared out at them with foreboding emptiness. Tsukishima paused, his crimson eyes narrowing as they swept over the dilapidated stronghold. He could feel the Yoki emanating from within, an almost rhythmic pulse that grew stronger with each passing moment. It was alive, aware, as if the castle itself recognized their presence and watched from the shadows.

He tilted his head toward Ikazuchi, a faint smirk curling his lips. “After you,” he said, his voice dripping with mockery, the tone sharp enough to cut through the suffocating silence. His daggers glinted faintly as he twirled one idly between his fingers, a casual gesture that belied the tension of the moment. The vampire’s demeanor was one of practiced indifference, but the predatory gleam in his eyes betrayed his readiness to face whatever awaited them inside.

Ikazuchi

Ikazuchi’s tempest-like advance was something that couldn’t be hindered by any mere beast, even ones possessed and pushed beyond their limit like those that acted to prevent their advance. A cold, calculative rationality allowed him to display a near-absolute level of control within the range of his swords. The mixture of his rapid advance and fluid movements resulted in his armor being untainted by blood despite his aggressive actions. His surroundings on the other hand, were decorated by the sprays of blood which followed the arcs of his swings. On more than one occasion, blood splattered into the path of his advancing companion. On more than one occasion, Ikazuchi intentionally acted to cause this to happen out of consideration for the bloodlust that was emanating from Tsukishima.

It was at this time that a new beast demanded their attention with an assertive howl. “What a loud dog…” Ikazuchi’s displeasure with spiritual beings had disappeared after realizing the potency of Spellcutter against the possession. All that remained was a natural displeasure towards anything that would twist and transform nature into an abomination, stripping such a creature of its free will.

Considering his previous experiences, he couldn’t consider this creature a particular threat. After the creature that he fought at sea alongside Xerxes, Ikazuchi wouldn’t flinch even if a dragon appeared before him. What mattered to him was not the form, but the substance. In this case, even with the influence of the evil and malevolent yoki, it was still just a wolf. Ikazuchi naturally raised Clarent in response as the pack leader had appeared to rally what remained of its pack. It was the perfect opportunity to resolve the issue in one go.

Blood red mana illuminated the area as the familiar white and red sword was raised above his head. The fluctuations rippled through the mist, dispersing it to give a clearer view of not only the creatures but the path ahead. It was then, at the moment when the mana was ready to boil over, that Tsukishima stepped forward. He claimed the alpha, or at least what remained of its now twisted form for himself.

Ikazuchi gave the man a glance and sighed as the mana receded. He didn’t bother to acknowledge the statement as withdrawing his mana was the clearest indication that he accepted the request. Although in a hurry, it wasn’t to the extent that he felt the need to rush his guildmate over a trivial matter like butchering a beast. Instead, his attention shifted toward the other beasts that remained.

‘I guess I will take care of this since he wants to play around.’ This thought flashed through his mind as he prepared to continue his previous slaughter until the former lich completed his task. He waited only a moment to see the start of the battle, intending to gauge the man’s skill with the alpha. It was due to this that he was fortunate enough to witness with his own eyes the slight pause for the man to speak. ‘Don’t interfere?’ Ikazuchi was amused by the arrogant and commanding tone coming from someone he could only consider a fledgling. “If you take too long, I will roll you back down the mountain to avoid deadweight.” Ikazuchi’s tone was playful, but it was a certainty that he would act on them if Tsukishima disappointed him. It was also at this moment that he developed the desire to give him some one-on-one training in the future. It carried over the surroundings as he rapidly shifted in the surroundings, keeping any brave members of the pack from interfering.

Through his perception, Ikazuchi took the time to properly appraise Tsukishima’s skill level while unleashing his sword. Against low level enemies, it was something that he had the luxury of doing. The Alpha, a creature that he felt looked menacing if nothing else, was easily toyed with by the man’s dexterity and finesse. ‘...That’s a little different.’ He couldn’t pinpoint the origin, but he vaguely felt that the movements had a peculiar origin. He hadn’t interacted with elves often, so Ikazuchi felt a certain amount of interest in the unfamiliar style.

He faintly frowned at Tsukishima’s display of skill, or lack thereof from his perspective, with his daggers. There was something lacking, something that Ikazuchi could only identify as a lack of experience. It was as if his guildmate’s display was a display made on knowledge alone… considering the man’s previous status as a lich, it could even be an almost forgotten skill resurfacing many years later. Regardless, Ikazuchi took note of this as something that would need to be addressed in the future. The subtle nuances of when, where, and how to strike during different circumstances were the key difference between himself and someone like Tsukishima. Even without his perception, the difference between the two of them would be as apparent as day and night. That wasn’t even considering the fact that the perceptive traits he gained could only be described as a culmination of those experiences pushing him to the pinnacle.

When Tsukishima finished the Alpha a short while later, Ikazuchi realized that many more corpses had been added to the surroundings thanks to his swords. “Took you long enough. I was getting bored.” He stopped to contemplate the performance as he ultimately decided that Tsukishima avoided his potential punishment this time. In the arena though… That would be another matter entirely, one to be seen in the future.

The remainder of the trip was relatively smooth after that encounter, only a few stragglers that escaped the earlier slaughter remained. There was a vague sense of reluctance as they attempted to hinder the advance. Although controlled, it seemed that the primal fear that these creatures experience couldn’t be completely suppressed. It made an already easy task simpler, but it also fostered a slight pity in Ikazuchi as they continued forward. In the end, they arrived before the castle and were able to take in its might and grandeur directly. Tsukishima’s taunting tone from the side caught his attention as he couldn’t help but turn his head to the side, A slight smile on his face as he subconsciously doubled the intensity of the training. “Good idea.” Ikazuchi’s gaze returned forward as he moved without concern for the lingering dangers. “...Who knows how long it would take if you were to take the lead like with the pup?” He wouldn’t forget to take a jab at someone who seemed intent on doing the same, reminding his guildmate of the time it took for the Alpha.
