These encyclopedias of knowledge were passed down through the generations of scholars, adding more to them over time. However, all was not well within the Scholars of Avalon as the sect slowly diminished in numbers while prospective glory seekers sought out the tomes for their greedy desires. Hoping to gain the powers of the tomes, a greedy, talentless scholar named Juan stole three of them in quick succession, the tomes of Flames, Shadows and Sky, respectively, as the library that housed the tomes for open display fell under attack by a demonic incursion allowing the thief responsible to claim them for their purposes. The remaining seven were separated and sent across the continent to be securely kept within the various banks and vaults of the countries best affiliated with their elements. Avalon Scholars would complete pilgrimages to each of these tomes to enrich their knowledge with their magical abilities.

Over time, as the demonic incursions worsened, education and archiving took a backfoot, with the swaths of members being conscripted to fight against the monsters. As a consequence, the Scholars were reduced from the thousands who served throughout society to a mere handful of elders who shaped the wills of the ruling class. Lacking any form of succession, the Scholars of Avalon fell to dust with their tomes being the only lasting presence in this world becoming artefacts and trinkets for the elite to use at their pleasure. Some were given to the Amaforth Academy however, many to this day remain carefully guarded treasures such as the Tome of Blizzards held within the Nataqin Catacombs buried amongst the last frost members of this long-dead organization.

Extra

Requirements:

  • The user must possess Lightning-based magic if they are a mage.

Bonus:

  • Intelligence: +50

Effects

  • Paralyzing Touch: The Lightning-type spells of the user instantly hinder the limb of enemies upon impact for two posts. Should the spell cover the entire body of the target, the user must choose a limb that they wish to be considered hindered. The effect does not stack, however, it does reset the hinder duration back to two posts again if the target is hit again at the same limb while they were hindered there. The hinder effect can be considered a temporary paralysis due to the Lightning-type damage being applied. Despite the limb being hindered, it does not mean that it decreases the Endurance of the target to the amount required for it to be hindered normally. This effect bypasses equipment.
  • Expanded Insight: Whilst possessing Avalon's Tome of Brilliance, the user may create and cast an additional Lightning-Based S++ Spell, this occupies the user's own spell slots.
  • Protected from the Thunder: Avalon's Tome of Brilliance possesses a Major Lightning Resistance
  • Bolstered Return: Whenever the user is struck by Lightning-type spells that are not sourced from them, they will receive mana equivalent to one rank lower than the spell cast.
