Orchidia Description: Orchidia is a large city close to a mountain range. The city has a certain cozy warm feeling to it. When strutting through it, you will notice the green next to the roads. Orchidia is best described as a roguish city. With plenty of inns to go by, the city is known for its welcoming population. Most of the buildings are very old-fashioned, while it seems impoverished most of it is actually quite functional. At the center of the city, the castle of the noble family shines pride of its people. The current ruler of the noble household is a brilliant young man with ashen hair. Having taken over from his retired father, he has great plans for the future of Orchidia. Orchidia is filled with interesting figures that all have their oddities.
Localization: Orchidia faces a tall mountain to its east side, shading a smaller part of the city during morning hours. A forest is close to Orchidia, at its west side. Orchidia has connections to cities in Fiore like Magnolia and Hargeon. A paved cobblestone path leads wanderers to both cities, putting Orchidia close to them. Orchidia remains safe from natural disasters such as tornadoes or unnatural rain storms, although they may rarely occur. Orchidia is quite far away from the sea, with Hargeon being the closest harbor.
Politics: The entirety of Orchidia City is under the rule of the noble Muramasa family. They are pretty careless about what goes on in the city which as resulted into moss, grass, and other flora growing practically everywhere inside the city. Decades ago, some locals requested the Muramasa to get rid of the all the green growing everywhere but there was no response given to them. Due to the Muramasa rarely involving themselves with Orchidia City, it has become a somewhat rogue-type city where a lot of things are possible. There are no Rune Knights stationed in Orchidia City, the only armed forces are those that directly work for Muramasa such as their guards and soldiers and they are almost always inside or near the castle. Due to this locals are relying on investigators such as Inspector Nilan to solve the crimes around them, and mages to solve their direct problems.
Economy: Orchidia pretty much thrives on their lack of control. It is much easier for sellers to get rid of their criminal wares here via the black markets, in which a certain percentage goes to the black market hosts. This money is then invested into venues that mainly serve to white wash money such as bars, but also gives locals new places to hang out and spend their own money. It is also a lot easier for people to set up dark requests here in these bars, once again due to the lack of control going inside the city. The money handed out often ends up in the hands of the Orchidian underworld which once again keeps pumping it back into their illegal activities.
Culture: Orchidia is a warm welcoming city. It's noticeable that most of the citizens mind their own business, thus making some people harder to reach than others. Nearly everyone is well equipped with items in Orchidia; even though not everyone has magic, everyone can still can fight with their weapons. This makes Orchidia unique; a lot of mercenaries stem from Orchidia as the city also has a combat academy for non-magical people. Magic isn't very appraised on Orchidia because of its economic status, where merchandising is heavily favored. When most children are asked what they want to be later they usually won't respond with becoming a mage. Lamia Scale, the guild inside Orchidia has a good track record with the city, having defended the city from certain situations in the past.
Locations
| Orchidia Market: Of each grassy street, merchant stalls line either side some overflowing with their wares. Between some stalls there is a brief respite from the window shopping where some beggars take refuge, their outstretched hands waiting for your alms. The stalls closer to the center of the city seem to be more neat whilst those further away are in more relative disrepair.
|
| Orchidian Church: The Orchidian Church is one of the churches that follows the teachings of Illumin. Most citizens can be found here praying for something good to happen, confessing their sins or repenting for them in the form of more prayers or good deeds to regain the favor of the heavens. Most travelers come here to simply witness its beauty and take a break.
|
| Forest Outskirts: Outside of Orchidia there is a forest - this dark forest used to be a settlement for lumberjacks. However they were chased out for logging too much of the forest away by Lamia Scale. As long ago as that was, the forest is now very much a jungle teeming with undergrowth and wildlife. Some trees sport spots of white moss on their trunks.
|
| Orchidia River: The river that goes through the city and is used for various purposes by merchants and locals. Lamia Scale even has it surrounding their building as a moat. This is an unregulated part of the stream bank however, so it is not advised to hang around these parts late at night.
|
| Orchidia Station: The station in Orchidia is quite large. It is located inside a large terminal building, filled up with many benches and shops. It seems almost impossible to get bored waiting for a train here, as one can spend their time shopping or dining in here. The station acts as the shining example of good transportation. Even though there is a station here, most travelers seem to be passing through rather than stopping in Orchidia for a stay.

NPCs
| Enil Issir: With black bags under his eyes Enil sweeps the curb in front of his bar every morning at 6AM. The tall brown haired barman doesn't take crap from anyone. He has a tough guy face and is visibly muscled, picking a fight with him seems like a bad idea. He got in trouble a few years ago because of gambling, but has since fixed that habit. |
| Awali Ustacia: Awalia is the 'Queen of the Underworld' in Orchidia, she's mostly unknown and her appearance is only a rumor to those who wander the surface. Below the surface she is a very trusted middleman. Awalia is rumored to be a very powerful mage capable of reading minds. |
| Ferdinand Cashier: A black market trade of high value is being made? Ferdinand knows about it. Ferdinand is a close associate to Awalia, he uses her connections to check out if trades are legitimate. He's been arrested for murder in the past but has been let go for insufficient evidence. He keeps the streets clean of real criminals and keeps black market business in the underworld, where it should belong.
|
| Lesi: Leis is known as the village-idiot. He begins his day by spouting about satan in front of the noble castle each day. A few years ago he broke his legs during an accident and tragically lost his wife, he's been preaching from a wheelchair since, that was until a street urchin stole his wheelchair. Enil and some other citizens got together and made him a new wheelchair. |
| Dacol Lubex: Dacol is a known figure among in Orchidia, he usually hangs out near the entrance gates where most new people wander in. He portrays a very friendly character and has an easy time showing you around Orchidia. He knows all the best places you could go to, whom to trust and where to sleep. |
| Seheda Linas: Being a mercenary isn't an easy job, at least, not for Seheda. It's been two years since she's been doing this line of work, assisting mages and other people with their mission as a guard is very taxing on her state of mind. She's been trying to improve her skills in combat but has failed the test to be submitted to the combat academy for the third time in a row. |
| Wugeth Skyline: Living rich, Wugeth has a total of three henchmen basically living with him to keep him safe. This is because a few months ago he got in trouble with an underground operation and he may or may not have ratted them out. They put out a hit on his name and now he's been living in paranoia ever since. He won't allow you to go near him without going through his henchmen first. |
| Mitya Noran: Mitya's bar is across the street from Enil's. He has no particular reason for it, but he really hates Enil. Being very childish, he is easily antagonized by even Enil's kind words directed at him. Mitya enjoys killing time by going to his competition's bar and complaining about the beverages they serve. He can go on for hours when drunk, speaking of his childhood, his lovelife, talking on and on about really, nothing. Beyond this, he is very passionate about the wellbeing of his mother despite the fact that she doesn't seem to feel the same way - which aggravates him. |
| Rynah Noran: Rynah is one of Orchidias senior citizens. Word is that she's grown to be senile, forgetful and very nostalgic. Spending a lot of time in the kitchen Rynah rewards people who take her quests with cookies at the end. Rynah usually has a care giver around. Her children have been trying to convince her to move to a retirement home. Rynah and her son Mitya don't get a long because of this. |
| Jelies Sov: Jelies is the head guard of the noble family. Oddly enough, he isn't a very powerful person. He managed to secure this position by bluffing his way up. One of his lieutenants, for example, is multiple times stronger than him. Sometimes Jelies can be seen wandering into the city asking putting up quests in order to continue living his bluff. |
| Inspector Nilan: Since his arrival at Orchidia, Nilan has been doing nothing but improving the relations between the community and law enforcement. He used to be an operator among the higher ranks in the rune knights. He quit the rune knights to spend more time with his sick wife, who died not much later. After rejoining the ranks, he was dispatched to Orchidia. |
| Dex Miller: Dex got in an accident ten years ago and ever since believes he's a real detective. He will be seen around city striking poses, as if he's a detective in a noir film, and doing typical noir film detective things like drinking whiskey in bars late at night and complaining about his cases that aren't real. Confronting him about these things will only worsen the condition. |
