She wore a leather jacket and jeans as usual and kept to the shadows when going to the abandoned streets. This mission was also supposed to be a secret, so she was to stay hidden from anyone who could see her and find her suspicious. Shoving her hands into the pockets of her jeans, she stood in a corner of the street from where she could see any movement. She kept her senses alert for that. It was a half moon and the night was gloomy as always. Dahlia Town itself had that effect. It felt like it was forever clouded in darkness. Even in the day, it felt like night. That did not mean that she felt stronger and faster like she did when she did in the night, but the feeling was as if it was always night time in Dahlia Town. She wondered how any human could stand that, unless they got used to it. Apart from the gloominess, there were a bunch of monsters to hide from or stay protected from. If they were not careful, they could end up dead. Joan was quite curious to know if there was any harmony in this town. Bishop Santos who was supposed to be the leader, displayed hostility towards his enemies which meant that even if he put up an innocent act, deep down, he was actually a troublemaker. Since there was a new king and all that, Joan could not help but wonder about these things.

But it seemed like they had no backup plan whatsoever. They came to a dead end where both of them were trapped with Joan. The vampyress gave them both a very cheerful smile. “Hello,” she said with a chuckle. The two of them looked spooked, but also angry. She kept smiling as she approached them. She noticed how out of breath they were and out of ideas as well. That was when one of them started speaking. It was something pretty strange to say in a life and death situation, but Joan remembered it. ‘Do you know what is scarier than the monsters who hides in the light and shows its teeth in the dark? The monster who does not hide in the light but hides its teeth behind a smile.’ With a laugh, Joan replied by opening her mouth to show them her vampyre fangs. “Since you mentioned teeth,” she laughed and advanced towards the one who talked, sinking her teeth into one side of his neck. He did try to struggle, but was put down by Joan’s strength. He was not strong enough. He was horrified, right before he fell to the ground. She turned towards the other one who was also looking very spooked. She did the same to him as well, leaving them both dead on the ground. Right before they breathed their last breath, one of them muttered something that was hard to understand. His face showed regret. Joan wiped her mouth and left.
