There was a small bit of beach near the Astera docks, but for the most part it was never used for swimming. Usually it was used for volleyball, as a tournament was ran every weekend by a group. Their prize was modest, but entry was free and you would be assigned a random partner, meaning no two people had the advantage of knowing each other's tempos beforehand. The reward seemed nice to Bruno, and knowing that it would require absolutely nothing to enter, he decided to give it a shot. After all, he played volleyball a few times, and at least knew how to play the game to a decent level. This tourney seemed so entry level as well.

Upon arriving at the nets, Bruno had gotten in just in time to be the second last spot. He was assigned the number 7, as there were 8 teams for this tournament, with a single elimination process. He'd only have to win 3 games to take home the money. Searching out the other person with the number 7, he would tap them on the shoulder.

"You're my partner, yeah? Let's go win this. I'm tall enough to block, too."

It wasn’t really typical of Kaiser to join in on tournaments like this, but she was very bored in Astera and wanted to do something that would bring her out of her comfort zone. There was a mini tourney at the beach and thanks to her cousins who always forced her to join sports clubs in school and join inter school tournaments with them, she knew the basics.

Kaiser had applied a shit load of sunblock all over her body to make sure she didn’t get too tanned. She wore the appropriate outfit for a beach volleyball tournament and waited for her partner to show up. She then felt a tap on her shoulder. Turning back immediately, she was stunned by the height of the person who was to be her partner.

“Oh, hey. I’m fast I guess,” she said.

The woman he got paired up with looked nice and all, but to be honest Bruno didn't have much time to think on that as the two were sprung into the first round of competition. The pair in front seemed to be two average looking guys, though one seemed to have a confident look on his face, as if he was used to playing volleyball in this context. Geez, he had to get this guy first, didn't he? Looking over to his partner, the round would start with the other team's serve. The ball came flying over the net with a decent speed, having been served by the confident looking man. In contrast, his partner didn't seem that sure of himself, which gave Bruno the idea to target the weakest link in this scenario.

"Yo, set it this way!" Bruno said, as the ball went toward the woman who's name he did not yet know. Ideally, he would be able to score a point by spiking it in the direction of the less confident looking man, as the two of them were spread out. How long it would take for the two of them on the other side of the net to figure out this strategy he didn't know, but he hoped that it would take them long enough for Bruno and his partner to win the round.

Kaiser and her partner were up against some douchey looking fellas, one of them appearing a little overconfident in himself. It was written all over his smug face. Kaiser on the other hand kept a straight face the whole time. While her opponents had paired up before coming to the tournament, Kaiser and her partner paired up spontaneously, so she didn’t really know what to do or say to him while her opponents were discussing tactics on the other side of the net.

The round started with the blow of a whistle and the opponent team’s serve. Kaiser’s eyes were set on the ball since it was coming in her direction. Noticing how the other opponent appeared far from confident unlike his partner, Kaiser knew exactly what to do. It turned out her partner was also thinking the same thing. As soon as she heard what her partner said, Kaiser leapt forward to reduce the time that their opponents could prepare and jumped, directing the volleyball towards her partner who was probably preparing for a spike.

Bruno was delighted to find that his partner was at least competent when it came to setting up for his spikes. Bruno jumped up a little, spiking the volleyball towards the less confident man, who managed to attempt a bump but fumbled, sending the ball out of bounds and letting Bruno and his partner score the first point of the match. Because this was a somewhat casual beach tournament, each matches were first to 5 points rather than proper sets, so each one was able to be done somewhat quickly. Looking over to his partner while the ref got the ball from out of bounds, Bruno spoke. "Nice job. Name's Bruno, by the way. You got one too?" he asked, making a casual bit of conversation during the game. It would help to know his partner's name as well, as he figured it would probably help their reaction time as the games went on. It was Bruno's turn to serve this time, as they had managed to earn a point on those who had just gotten to serve. He hit it toward the less confident man once again, and sure enough he was able to earn a point just through his serve alone. The cocky man looked at Bruno with an evil eye, going over to whisper to his partner for a little bit. "Uh oh, looks like they managed to catch onto my strategy. You wanna serve next? Might throw them off a little."

Kaiser’s lips curled into a satisfied smirk as the ref gave them a point. It turned out they were both right in thinking that the other one was the weakness in their team. When her partner introduced himself, she did the same, saying, “I’m Kaiser, hi.” Since these rounds were shorter and faster than a normal match, she was pretty sure now that they were going to win this round. It was their serve since they scored a point, and Bruno managed to score another point with his serve.

The opponent with the cocky attitude went over to whisper something into his partner’s ears, making Kaiser laugh in an amused way. She saw him give a dirty look towards Bruno. “Uh huh,” she said, taking the ball to serve. Their teamwork was so good, they didn’t need to discuss anything. Just from seeing his skills, she couldn’t help but assume that Bruno used to play competitive sports like her as well. Another point was given to them, since the cocky person passed the ball out of bounds after receiving Kaiser’s serve.

The cocky man now was able to read the serve, having a good idea of what Kaiser and Bruno were trying to do. It would take more than just a change in who served to win the last few points. The man managed to bump it, and the other guy shakily set it, allowing the confident one to spike forward towards Bruno. Almost managing to get it, Bruno wasn't able to make it in time, causing the score to become 2-1. Considering they needed 3 more points to win, Bruno knew that he and his partner would have to rely on something other than a cheesy strategy to win.

The confident man served the ball, as Bruno managed to catch it with a bump. The ball went flying in the air towards Kaiser's direction, and Bruno would run towards the net on her side, hoping his speed would catch their opponents off guard. "Kaiser!" he noted, hoping she would get the idea here. Should she spike towards him, Bruno would jump up, but do so in a way that moved him away from the ball. Taking a chance, he would spike at a completely different angle than if he had just hit it after jumping straight up, earning them a point.

"You wanna serve again?" he asked Kaiser, looking back towards her.

The opponents got their confidence back up to a hundred percent after getting only one point from Bruno’s failure to catch the cocky man’s spike. It was kind of funny, because they have literally one point and they were still losing to Kaiser and Bruno. Kaiser did not let her mind drift off. She focused on the game, and how to cooperate with Bruno to win the round. When her partner yelled her name, she responded immediately with, “Got it!” and followed up with his strategy. Next, it was their serve and Bruno asked if she wanted to serve again.

“Sure,” she said, accepting the ball and prepared to serve again.

Well, whoever this busty brunette was, she was either someone with previous volleyball experience or just a really fast learner. Still, the fact that her serve was able to score another point on the two tilted men in front of them was nice. If they scored just one more they'd be able to take the round, moving onto the semi finals. Bruno decided to take the last serve, the ball hurling to the less confident man. Surprisingly enough, the man set it to his more bold partner, who spiked it towards Bruno. Bruno figured this was because the man figured only he could spike, which was like, totally a disgrace to the progressive attitude in Fiore. It was X787 after all, the man needed to get with the times.

Bruno set the ball towards Kaiser, hoping she would go for the spike. "Your turn, Kaiser!"

Kaiser was kind of surprised that her serve alone scored them a point. Oh well, now they only needed one more point to win this round. The next match would be the semi-finals? She was pretty sure it was the semi finals, but she didn’t waste much time thinking about that. Winning the current round was more important at the moment. The next thing she knew, Bruno had set up a spike for her and also letting her know that it was her turn. At the right moment, she put her full force in and scored the winning point against their opponent. The ref announced that their team would be advancing to the semi finals and Kaiser jumped up in joy, clapping and making happy noises.

“We advanced!” she exclaimed.

Bruno was happy about the win, almost moving up to high five Kaiser. However, before he could do so, two women approached him, waving and holding onto his arm. Bruno had met them last night at a bar, and really hit it off. That being said, they had another appointment, so they couldn't really do anything with Bruno after the bar. That being said, Bruno's eyes lit up upon seeing them. Perhaps this could be his chance? In that instant, his lust took over all other thoughts, the girls greetings being clearly flirtatious in nature. The tournament's prize was nice, but... this was much better.

"Well... I, uh, have to go, Kaiser!" he smiled awkwardly as he went off with the girls. "Sorry, business calls! Maybe we'll team up again someday!" he yelled, fading off into the distance, abandoning the volleyball lifestyle in that moment.

While Kaiser was bouncing up and down in joy, two scantily dressed women appeared out of nowhere and grabbed Bruno, dragging him away. She didn’t know who these women were, but she had a clue of what they could be just by looking at them. Men, she thought. Always so easily manipulated. The prize from the volleyball tourney didn’t seem as rewarding to Bruno as getting in those women’s panties. Since she was partner-less now, she didn’t feel like going around looking for a new one. It was too hot, and she felt like she could use a lemonade or something.

“...Sure,” was her response to Bruno who poofed out of existence with the ladies. Kaiser shook her head and walked off to look for a lemonade stand to cool herself down after the intense round. “You guys can take our place,” she told the pair that they just competed against.
