The sun was high in the sky on the beautiful springtime morning, nary a cloud in sight of the magnificent Domus Flau: an arena as old as the capital city itself. Built at the summit of a nearby mountain the Domus had stood idle, only being used for the occasional fight between training mages looking to strengthen their own abilities. Never before has it been used for something as grand as the event today. The Grand Magic Games: a tournament featuring every guild in Fiore. A chance for every guild mage to showcase their abilities, and the strength of their guild. Every seat was occupied, as the public waited for the first fight to begin. The arena itself, a circle of 100 meters diameter with marble flooring, was watched over by four warriors: Hercales, Shaka Zulu, Miyamoto Musashi and Beowulf. Four of the legendary Nine Heroes, each with their glorious weapon immortalised in stone beside them, eager to bare witness to the power of Fiore. Both contestants will be instructed to walk towards the center of the ring, stopping in their tracks once both are an equal distance from the center and 20m apart. The fight will then be started via the sound of a blast from the referee. "Another match between warrior and mage, this time between Advent World’s Kenzo Valens and Penumbral Guard’s Fayre Kitai. While perhaps not the flashiest duo to face each other in this tournament, both are in possession of powerful weapons and artefacts that will make them a force to be reckoned with. Will Kenzo hold steadfast against Fayre’s attacks, or will he be blown away?" |
Kenzo Valens vs. Fayre Kitai

Fayre: "I wield nothing but my will to battle and all my spells I have acquired by rigorous study and training! I must prove myself!"
Said the white mage, having only just begun his true adventures that would unfold with his guild. Here would mark a point of an indomitable will for the young mage to perfect his magic and soar beyond his limits, to great heights gone unseen for a great sum of years. Fayre looked on at the great structure housing memories of warriors and thousands of duels of brave mages. It was imposing, beautiful, and filled with hope when lying eyes upon its stone. Aegis and Tomoe would have great duels surely here, and so will Fayre.
Fayre grasped his book tightly, entering the spectacular world of dueling and magic battles gracing Fiore's vast peoples. He would come to enter a large circular open arena, brimming with excited crowds. Fayre had much running through his mind. What kind of battle may Fayre have? Will it be an easy one or a surprisingly difficult one? It was all yet to be seen, but soon unraveled as Fayre would step into his side of the vast open arena of cheering. Fayre held a book in hand, a book said to have been written and wielded by that of an ancient King of Seven. It did not make Fayre ease up a bit however.
Fayre: "I must prove my will."
Young Fayre was set on proving his will in growing and flourishing. If he could do that, he would be somewhat content in his battle win or lose. Fayre sought to become a great mage of the winds, and here in the Domus Flau is where he can show his will to become so. Fayre looked to be a mage who can help lead Fiore to become a better place. A great weight upon his shoulders of hopes and dreams fueled him to reach this place here now. Fayre's white hair wavered as he walked upon where he was said to stand before his opponent. He grasped a blue and silver book, and was garbed with beautiful white soft robes. Fayre smiled. His eyes lied determined, shining blue.
Fayre: "I am... Fayre Kitai! Let us get this on now, huh?"

The time had finally come. A lone figure made his way through the underground mazes of the imposing Domus Flau. It had been a while since he had been in Crocus. However, he was glad to come back to the country’s capital and the first place he could call home in Fiore. Many times before had he looked over the buildings of the city to see the silhouettes of the four guardians circling the Domus Flau. Today, they would look over his battle. The ground rumbled with the echoes of the thousands of spectators, making the carved stone walls of the passage tremble as he walked by. Even underground, the roars of the crowd’s reaction as a fight finished could be heard. The blue haired man’s resolve didn’t waver in doubt and nervousness hearing them. Rather, a smile appeared on his face as he finally made it to the gate that faced the fighting ground’s entrance. Kenzo’s blood boiled in excitement. He had been looking forward to this day even since his guild master told them about the tournament. Today, the Bellan swordsman would fight representing Advent World. There was no place for self-doubt. Kenzo would give his all and strive for victory. The sound of the gate opening signaled the mercenary’s que to enter. The bright rays of the morning flooded his vision as he took his first step outside the building.
Kenzo wore his whole gear for this battle. The male sported an exquisitely crafted silver armor that firmly rested around his chest and torso. From what he’d heard, it was one of the last remnants of dwarven craftsmanship. In direct contrast, his head was protected with a rusty iron helmet that had surely seen better days while a battered wood and iron buckler was strapped to his back. Lastly, an abnormally large blade hung from his left side. Its golden scabbard reflected the sun into the polished marble floor. In the mercenary’s mind, it was quite an impressive battleground. A 100 meters diameter white circle devoid of anything else was watched over by four colossal statues on each of the cardinal points. In his opinion, the arena’s dimensions were an overkill. From what he remembered; it was even bigger than the massive colosseum of his homeland Bellum. However, this was Fiore. Trying to compare a melee fight to a battle between mages would be ridiculous. This was a reminder that he needed to be alert. He didn’t know anything about his opponent, so any mistake could lead to defeat. With this in mind, he made his way to the center of the stage.
Amongst the roars and cheers of the crowd, the male finally made it to the place where he was supposed to stand. Kenzo stood 20 meters apart from the person that he would be fighting. Seeing him arrive, the younger male introduced himself as Fayre Kitai. Kenzo simply nodded as he placed his left hand on the golden scabbard at his side. ”Kenzo Valens.”
He took a quick look around to the crowd. From what he could distinguish it was fully stacked with barely any seats empty. He wondered if the people whom he had met through his travels would be watching his fight. Perhaps this tournament would bring him to meet again some known faces. Either way, this was the perfect stage to prove Advent World’s power in the new era that was coming. The thought made the male excited. Kenzo’s lips slowly arched upwards, while the sinister jawbone on his cheek gave him a rather menacing look. He was ready.
The referee would announce the start of the fight with a countdown. Lacrima enhanced speakers filled the air clearly with his voice. The crowd grew silent in anticipation to the beginning of the fight. Kenzo cleared his minds of all distractions as he focused to the task at hand.
”3…” The blue haired male took a deep breath.
”2…” Kenzo unsheathed Masamune as he held it with both hands.
”1…” The male took a fighting stance as his body tensed up, locking his eyes at any Fayre and any movements he’d make.
”START!!!”

Fayre: "Hora! Let our match begin then! Gale Whirlwind!"
Roared the white coated mage, throwing down his feet to the arena floor beneath him vigorously and gripping it tightly as he would wave his hand forward with valiancy and aim! With an open palm targeting a point 15m far, exactly 2m to the right side of Kenzo and 5m in front of him, a whirlwind would begin to quickly pick up and give chase to the blue haired warrior directly from his right side. Fayre would be casting another spell just as Kenzo reacted to the one appearing before him and coming to his side wherever he was. With his other hand, Fayre pointed at a point on the left side of Kenzo wherever he may be in that exact moment there. A magic circle forming there, wind would suddenly try blowing Kenzo in the sky viciously with a sudden gust of wind.
Fayre: "Gale Catapult!"
Said the young man, his eyes focused and fixated upon his opponent closely. This was only Fayre beginning. He was curious how Kenzo Valens may react. However, no matter how Kenzo may, young Fayre would continue fighting ever so carefully yet so vigorously. It was a duel for Fayre he will not forget. Kenzo undoubtedly will be a tough match for Fayre, one he could learn from in this battle whether win or lose. Fayre longed for more wisdom of the world and others, will Kenzo deliver?

As Kenzo started running, he could hear Fayre begin to yell something at him. The blue haired swordsman didn’t stop though, he was prepared to deal with anything that came his way. Just as Kenzo passed the 10 meters mark, he unsheathed his sword and rose it to the right side of his chest without stopping, pointing at the sky. A little less than two seconds had passed since the beginning of the match, but he had already cut by half the distance between both contestants. At the same time, Fayre had finished talking and waved his hand while a white magic circle appeared at a point behind the warrior. The seal extended through the ground rapidly in a four-meter radius. Luckily for the swordsman, he was already away from the strike zone. However, Kenzo decided to take a risk and turn his head back for a split second while he still ran. He wouldn’t normally do this, but he decided that it would be worth it if he managed to understand the nature of Fayre’s magic.
A whirlwind formed seemingly out of thin air, taking form in the blink of an eye and rising ten meters in the air. Noticing that the spell didn’t seem to move, Kenzo turned his eyes back again at the wind mage. Even if the whirlwind started to move after, it wouldn’t make a difference for him. He was confident in the magical properties of his armor. He had tried it out before, so even if he was hit, he wouldn’t budge an inch away from his trajectory.
”Wind huh?
The thought crossed through his mind as he laid his attention at the mage. This was certainly some valuable information. Knowing the nature of Fayre’s magic had helped the swordsman narrow the possibilities of what his opponent could do. After all, he witnessed the epitome of what a wind wizard was capable of. It had been almost a year since that day, but Kenzo remembered vividly the time when he saw Kazimir Seiryu’s magic in full force. The now guild master of Phoenix Feather was able to create tornadoes and whirlwinds out of thin air as well, so Kenzo now had a general idea of what he could expect from the fight.
Sadly, learning this wouldn’t come without a price. Just as he turned his head back at Fayre, a magic circle appeared below him. He didn’t notice the white-haired male’s motion to cast it since he was looking away, so one could say the spell caught him completely off guard. Under normal circumstances he would receive the full force of the attack and be blown away, but the mercenary simply smiled as he gripped the hilt of his sword tightly. A gust of wind surged from below him and shot upwards. The dwarven runes carved into Kenzo’s armor shone in a blue light as they absorbed the full brunt of the attack. The protective piece took damage, but he was otherwise unharmed and unhindered. The only thing his mind focused on was reaching the mage within striking distance.
The white-haired boy hadn’t moved from his initial position as he casted both spells, so he would now stand 2 meters away from Kenzo after he virtually ignored his second attack. To the cheering audience, only a little less than two and a half seconds had passed since the start signal, but Kenzo was hopefully ending the match with a single strike now. He had already assumed an attack stance when he unsheathed his sword, secretly preparing his trump card as well. If Fayre was caught off guard by the fact that Kenzo was unaffected by his spells, Kenzo would simply slash diagonally downwards and strike the Penumbral Guard wizard across his chest while running. The impact would be enough to deal the equivalent of 2 S – Rank damage to him, so there was no way he was leaving the arena without the need of medical assistance.
However, Kenzo would be also ready if the younger male was able to react before being cut down. From what he had seen so far, Fayre used physical motions to cast his spells. In the case Kenzo saw him preparing a spell by moving either of his hands or feet, he would unleash his trump card while his blade still pointed at the sky. Mana would flow from his body and into his sword as he would activate Masamune’s Full Negation. This would almost instantly disable all spells ongoing at the moment within the arena, rendering any defense Fayre conjured useless before Kenzo cut him down. Furthermore, in the case Fayre tried to run away in either direction, his 2-meter-long blade could easily reach him no matter where he went. Seeing Kazimir fight taught Kenzo that wind mages were able to dash at high speeds at different directions, so in the case Fayre did so, Kenzo would also instantly lunge in his direction to chase him and strike him down. He was able to cover a 12.5-meter distance in a second after all. So, unless Fayre was able to outdo him, Kenzo would be able to swing his sword at him.
No matter what he did, the swordsman would only need a single strike of his sword to finish the fight. Or at least that was what the blue haired mercenary expected. It was now a matter of seeing what young Fayre would do before he acted accordingly. This was a competition with their guilds’ honor in the line after all. No hard feelings, right?
OOC: From what I can gather from reading the spell regulations, since your AoE spells don't have a clear trajectory described on them I'll asume they'll remain stationary for the moment. If that is not the case I will reflect the armor taking damage from the first whirlwind in my next post.

Was this the strength of Fiore's great men that Fayre perhaps had not yet been prepared against? Indeed, he was nothing compared to what he hoped to be in the name of his guild and Fiore. In this moment before being striken by the impressive blade of Kenzo, the young man would clench his fist tightly and stare at the man in his eyes, roaring. If the man read into his blue eyes, he will see his determination return back after a split second of distraught upon his face. It was a determination for what would come after today. Fayre, his boots gripping the floor beneath him viciously as his opponent rushed up to him, he would roar loud before taking the inevitable strike to his chest. A valiant and deep warrior roar would bellow out from the bottom of Fayre's very chest.
It would echo out to the Domus Flau as perhaps the quickest match would take place here today. Fayre, stared on with a determination in growing stronger and with an intense spirit, seeking to defeat this man who would scar his chest perhaps one fateful day. Fayre would roar greatly in pain, as he stared up at the sky briefly as he was being striken.
Fayre: "HOOROOOAAAAAA!"
A crimson blood of Fayre would paint part of the mythical blade. Fayre did not waver or run from the inevitable but would face it head on, enduring the pains and struggle that would come with it. In this moment, Fayre couldn't help but wonder how weak he was. It was disgraceful, but pushed him to try even harder no matter the struggles which he may encounter in his journey.
Fayre hoped Aegis would not berate him about this loss, the loss itself was bad enough for him now. Fayre could not look at Tomoe after this, until he was much more stronger than he was now. It would be an aching loss, figuratively but quite literally as well as the blade cut his chest which would leave a great scar on him for many years. Fayre's eyes would not immediately lose their intensity as he dropped to the ground below but gradually as Fayre's body would descend into great slumber, reigniting when he awoke eventually to continue on in his adventures and endeavors..! It was a short end to a battle, but not to the tales and legend that Fayre was to carve.
OOC Notes: Kenzo Valens takes the win. Fayre down.

As the familiar feeling of steel tearing through flesh reached Kenzo, he stared directly at Fayre’s eyes. The fight they held that day had ended as soon at it had started. However, little did the older male knew that it would simply be the beginning for the up and coming wind mage’s story. Masamune had found its target. Kenzo had managed to outmaneuver Fayre that day and slash at his chest. He didn’t hold back, there was no place for mercy in a fight for honor. Moments before, fear took over the white-haired young’s face as he realized he couldn’t avoid the Advent World warrior’s strike. Kenzo was slightly disappointed, but he didn’t hold it against Fayre. After all, that was human nature.
However, just as his sword’s steel was to contact his skin, a spark was ignited within the younger male. Fayre braced himself and roared as he prepared to receive the strike to the chest. Kenzo could see the expression in his face change instantly. A smile appeared on the swordsman’s face as the blood of his opponent started to gush out of his wound. There were few people that he had met before that stared at defeat with those eyes. They were full of passion and determination. It was as if a bright fire was lit in the midst of the darkest of nights. Kenzo’s feelings of disappointment suddenly turned into excitement. The white-haired wizard was quite an interesting fella.
The crowd roared as his body fell to the ground with a soft thud. Kenzo stopped and held Fayre’s shoulder with his left hand so that he didn’t fall face down. With a slight movement, the Penumbral Guard male fell with his back against the ground and facing the sky. His blue eyes full of determination mirrored the sky before fading to black. Before Fayre lose consciousness, Kenzo stood next to him with a grin on his face.
”I like your guts kid. Let us meet again in the future.” His tone was serious but soft, making sure it was loud enough for him to hear him.
Kenzo now held high hopes for him. It would be an honor to cross blades again with him after he turned stronger. He’d make sure to remember the boy’s face and name. The Bellan mercenary was sure the scar that he inflicted on his body would motivate him to reach greater heights. He would make sure to be waiting for him at the summit. For now, he had secured a win for his guild. The crowd’s cheers became stronger as they saw the conclusion of the fight. Kenzo cleaned his blade with the back side of his boot before sheathing it and walking towards the exit of the stage.
What would this fight mean for their future? Only time would tell.
